2659eb  No.16875326[Last 50 Posts]

I just played the first three or four levels of Daikatana to see if the game really was as bad as people said, and oh dear God, it was so much worse.

>intro is like 200 hours long

>your first weapon has projectiles that bounce around, if you miss you can end up hitting yourself

>90% of the enemies for the first two levels are dragonflies and frogs, 10% are alligators

>the enemy placement is seemingly completely random

>there are turrets that pop up out of nowhere and kill you unless you already know they're there

>get a grenade launcher at one put but it's more likely to kill you than anything else

>absolutely no direction, just have to guess where to go

>NPCs constantly scream every 2 seconds with one of the same three generic screams

>game is so NOISY

>really suddenly the game goes from frogs and flies to hitscanners and giant rocket-launching robots

>robots are everywhere

>like 8 in a row all in a small room

>no clue where you're going or what you're really doing

>getting through tight spaces feels like exploiting the game even if it's intentional to progress

What the fuck was Romero thinking? I've heard it gets way worse eventually, but I had to tap out around the fourth level or so. I can't even see what they were going for, this is totally unredeemable.

Do you ever keep coming back to games that you know are bad, but you just want to see if it's as bad/even worse than you remember it? I keep doing that with CS:GO every year or so

>you can now uncrate custom player models as a rare find (on par with knives I think)

>they're all either faggot-tier millenials covered in makeup and bad haircuts, edgy buff guys with skull bandanas and other tattoos, or a fucking womyn; it's now undergone a full transformation from plausibly realistic military shooter to meme shoot game

>you can now buy extra inventory space for $5

>UI keeps undergoing lobotomized changes every 3 months or so there was absolutely nothing wrong with the original menu you fucking volvo kikes

>performance gradually gets worse

>nobody takes the game seriously anymore which is fine by me, I used to be hyperautistic over people dicking around in competitive but now that I stopped caring about the game I couldn't care less who's micspamming nigger music at earrape volume

>teammates consisted of a literal nigger, a wigger, a relatively normal guy and someone who didn't have a mic

>nigger would keep micspamming music at max volume

>start dropping big thinks about Germany and Jews

>he micspams Erika

>I sing along, nobody knows what it is

>team starts winning again

>running around the map aimlessly like a retard, showing up behind the enemy when I shouldn't be and getting kills

>other team was laughably bad, I got second most kills in the game despite not playing it in over a year

>Nova is still the best gun in the game

the last time I played it before this was with my friend and we used our Xbox controllers as a joke, we ended up topfragging and winning. that's when I truly knew how much of a joke this game had become

bruh that game up and killed Romero's career, imagine it's 2000 and you're hyped as fuck for the next game by one of the masterminds behind Quake and Doom, you boot that bitch up and that greentext was your experience. you now understand why it's so infamous

look at his wikipedia page, right after Daikatana he didn't work on anything else of substance that he wasn't already helping develop

Ion Storm produced other good games like Deus Ex but nobody cared because of how impossibly bad Daikatana was

I found Fallout 76 in a bargain bin for 5$. It's Fallout 4 with a shitload of lag and even more bugs, but doing the big multiplayer events is kinda enjoyable. As soon as you put together a character build and get some decent weapons and armor there's no incentive to keep playing whatsoever, since there aren't even randomized Radiant quests, the dailies are just exact repeats of the same quests.

A buggy mess could have the excuse of them being rushed and may just be a victim of circumstance. Not always, but enough to give most devs the benefit of the doubt. Colonial Marines might have been an okay game if they'd caught their own AI bug before shipping.

A truly bad game is something with problems that can't be fixed in a patch, its flaws are inherent in the overall design and nobody objected to any of it from concept to final product. Everything about Thi4f for instance makes me want to strangle the devs.

Out of sheer masochism I decided to play more Daikatana. I've gotten to the point where you meet Superfly, and yeah, it's really going downhill now. He dies fucking instantly in any fight and you have to babysit him constantly.

There are more little turret fuckers you can't fucking see until they start shooting you. I'm beginning to see pre-Deus Ex vibes, you can tell the same team made it. The cutscenes especially are shot and written in a very similar way.

What kills me the most is how you can tell they put effort into this game, they really wanted it to be good. There's little homages to Romero's previous games everywhere, like webm related I recorded.

>>16875663

>>16875344

Romero really didn't like this game, he wanted to make a first-person RPG but his own lack of leadership skills and the game repeatedly switching engines caused it to be a unbaked mess. Deus Ex is closer in line to the game he actually wanted to make, the difference is that he only gave a rough outline of what he wanted and left somebody with actual experience lead it.

For all the shit one can give Daikatana for being an unplayable mess, at least you have something to talk about and a cautionary tale of mismanagement. Dragon Rage is just BORING with nothing really interesting ever happening through the scant few hours you'll be subjecting yourself to it.

It actually gets better and better as you play, the middle two episodes being pretty great. The start of the game has the worst levels and enemies, I have no idea what they were thinking when they front-loaded the game with the worst content, but it gave the game a reputation that it didn't deserve.

Another game that shouldn't have ever been fucking made

>>16877216

Because forgetting the sins of the past will lead to repeating them

>>16877097

Been a long time since I suffered through it but I'll highlight shit that turned it from a potentially great game and sequel to a bitter disappointment, note that some of what I mention here probably won't make much sense if you've never played the first two games as Dissidia was a farily unique game that is much better learned by playing than having it explained to you by some faggot on the internet seriously though, if you've never played Dissidia than go download a PSP emulator and grab a download of Dissidia 012, you don't need to play the first one since 012 has all of its content including the story mode, from whatever site of you're choosing, I went with Vimm's Vault, and maybe get a controller since I find the PSP's controls don't really translate well to console

>equipment, gold, and experience removed

And right off the bat the game has less content and experimentation than both of the previous Dissidia games. No longer is there a real feeling of growth for what ever character you are playing as or opportunities for autistically building a character around certain items to maximize their potential or go in to a silly build with them but making it work anyways. there's no more sweating your way with a character you've only started with and think you have a handle on only to level up and be given new moves to fuck around with that can turn characters you hated fun, characters you thought sucked in to gods (Exdeath was the fucking king of this), and make characters you already like even better

>stages

Somehow, a game made with consoles and later PCs in mind has LESS stages than a handheld game: NT has 18 stages while 012 has 19, 38 if you count the Ω stages. Oh yeah, Ω stages; these are warped versions of normal maps that have a gimmick to them to spice things up; one map takes place on an airship and the wind is constantly pushing the fighters towards the back of the map in Ω mode, another map will be on a floating castle and in Ω mode parts of the castle will randomly disappear and reappear in different places, another map takes place in a magitech lab and in Ω mode getting knocked in to a wall can cause explosions as fighters fly in to steam pipes and experimental equipment. Ω mode does not exist in NT, another feature stripped- you'll notice this a lot when I rant about this piece of shit of a game.

Oh well, maybe they went quality over quantity?

HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA NIGGER, AS FUCKING IF

Where as maps in the handheld games had plenty of shit in them to get hit by, run on, or blow the fuck up many of the maps in NT are disgustingly empty and far less interesting, all to compensate for its 3v3 combat, more on that later.

>can't see shit captain!

The game's UI is fucking cluttered, the combat is so chaotic that keeping track of what's going on in you screen can be a real pain in the ass, and it only gets worse with summons

>summons are stage hazards

In the handheld games summons were support items that could shift the tide of a fight, protect you when you're vulnerable, or make an already gained advantage better. Now, they're stage hazards that make a chaotic game worse by tinting your screen in a variety of colors depending on who was summoned that makes shit go from "I can barely see what I'm doing" to "is my monitor/TV fucking exploding?"

>assists removed

This one speaks for itself, no more epxerimenting to see which chars work well together and which don't and no more mind games and trickster plays between players as they try to corner their enemy by tricking them in to dodging with an assist and hitting them with you're real attack or maximizing damage by comboing with your assist

>EX mode and supers removed

In the previous game characters could build up a gauge that would eventually let them enter a super mode that made them hit harder, get unique bonuses depending on the character, and use a super move that did insane amounts of damage, alternatively if you had it built up you could instead chose to save it for when you are getting your ass beat and break out of an attack at the cost of not entering your super mode, this shit was a lot of fun since you could do crazy shit like toss a monkey boy in to a super nova while also adding another layer of depth to the game. Hell, there was even a character who was completely built around this; Gabranth, who was a personal favorite of mine so I was especially booty blasted by its removal.

26f3f6  No.16877382

2/3

>removed move set customization

You used to be able to customize you're characters bravery attacks (long story short, they were attacks that did no damage to health bars but made attacks that did damage to health deal more), you selected what moves you wanted and selected what input you wanted for them, and could have 6 bravery attacks equipped at on time with half being for ground combat and the other for air combat, same goes for HP attacks

You now have a set list of bravery attacks, which you cannot customize in any way, you can only customize what HP attack you use and if I remember right you can only equip ONE HP attack at a time. Fuck you Team Ninja, you too Squenix.

At this point you are probably wondering why anyone in their right mind would do all this, how could anyone think this was a good idea? The answer is corporate suits looking to get in the epurtz crowd. What a fucking joke.

>3v3 combat

Here we go. The choice that ruined everything:

Everything that got warped or stripped out I mentioned above was to accommodate for THIS FUCKING HORSESHIT

Game is no longer a matter of skill in a 1v1 fight between superhumans, gods, and monsters: its a fuck fest of trying to kill one nigger and praying you aren't about to get ass raped by some faggot who's looking for a gangbang

>is there any way to play 1v1?

Only against the AI, if you were hoping for a friendly 1v1 with your friend or your family or your cat then get fucked- you're gonna have to either put up with braindead AI to play with them or find 4 other chuckle fucks to play with you as well. No couch co-op either, go buy separate machines to play on goyim

>online multiplayer only

Sucks ass, team work is something you will never goddamn see and you will constantly get stuck with team mates who either weigh you down or are living in Antarctica on Mcdonalds wifi with routers held togeth with glue and cum. oh wait, that's just NT's shitastic net-code that will ruin any game that isn't LAN.

>friendly AI in 3v3's

Garbage, they do nothing but make the game harder for you; it's entirely possible for you to play flawlessly and still lose because your AI teammates keep getting axed by the enemy AI that's blatantly cheating by reading inputs

>single player content gutted

There are no overworld maps to explore. there are no dungeons. there are no separate stories centered around different characters. there is no hope.

>plot

is so bad its insulting, I know squenix is well known for stupid ass stories and terrible and Dissidia on a whole was no exception but the first two games had their moments and actually had a really neat background plot going on. NT's "story" is so bad that I can't even make fun of it, and the most insulting bit is that you don't even play it like you normally would: you have to go fight battles online and in singleplayer to unlock shit that will unlock parts of the story one bit at a time? What do you get from these bits? Cutscenes that typically last a whooping 2 minutes and you usually don't even fight anything

I have never seen a more tediously progressed story mode in any game in my life and for so little pay off, even FFXIII and KH:DDD was superior to this shite excuse for a plot

>characters no longer have different start of battle quotes depending on who they are fighting

Not a big thing but it makes the whole experience feel more soulless; no more Tifa asking what Tidus is staring, no more Kefka calling Squall a poser or Lightning telling him that "It's time for you lesson, schoolboy" in the most "i'm going to fuck you raw" tone I have ever heard still gives me a boner

>no more moogle and other side character shenanigans

more small stuff but I will never forget the first time I saw a moogle inadvertently call Sephiroth a metrosexual samurai

26f3f6  No.16877384

3/3

>DLC

There is currently 149 individual DLC packs for NT, a few are characters. There was barely any DLC at all for the handhelds and there were no dlc characters expect for Arieth, who was an assist character and could be completely ignored

>roster

when the game was first released on the arcade it had less characters than the first dissidia game had

when it came out on consoles it had less characters than 012 did

years later there are still characters from 012 that are not in the game at all and a couple of other characters who are now being sold as dlc

the game is free to play now but when it was released it was $29.99, not that bad and I don't think it was much more than what the handhelds asked for but then consider that

its a game with less content than a handheld

is mechanically simplified compare to a handheld

released with less characters than a handheld

and it had the gall to ask you to pay for expansion packs to get more content in a barebones game

The sheer

bloody audacity

OF THESE FUCKING KIKES!

The worst part was all the excitement from myself and others had for it when it was first announced. This was supposed to save video game, all it did was prove how far they could fucking fall. I played more Daikatana because at this point I'm curious to see how it goes.

So I finally got a rocket launcher and it was the only gun actually worth a shit besides the Ion Blaster. I forgot to mention this: all the guns so far are TERRIBLE.

The shotgun is inaccurate as fuck and does this annoying six-shot burst fire.

The grenade/C4 launcher is kind of like the Demoman's sticky launcher from TF2, but worse in every way. It's kind of useful to kill enemies through doorways, but ammo for it is so rare I forgot I even had it.

There's this faux-BFG weapon called the shockwave or some shit, it's meant to clear out rooms but it also instakills you if used too close and the level design is so claustrophobic with enemies so sparse that I only found a single place place to actually use it.

For 90% of the game I've been using the Ion Blaster, it's a pretty good weapon considering it's the very first one you get. It bounces off walls which allows you to preform some pretty great trickshots if you know how. The rocket launcher is good to down tankier enemies like the robots. Its splash damage seems to be a lot lower than the C4 launcher so you don't have to worry about killing yourself or your teammates Speaking of which, I finally found the second one; the Asian lady who's name I can't remember.

The game started getting REALLY ass at this point. The AI's pathfinding is fucking retarded so I kept having to walk them like a dog to the right place. The chick is also kinda psychotic or glitched because she keeps killing civilians.

Your teammates also require weapons and ammo. I would probably bitch about this if not for the fact the shotgun is total dogshit. Anytime I find ammo for it I let them have it, they seem to not have the same accuracy penalties the player has (gotta love it when games apply different rules to the AI!). Ion Blaster ammo is also plentiful and for some reason a single cell gives you 50 shots, which is half of your maximum supply. I forgot it even used ammo, at no point have I ever even come close to running out.

The AI were both getting fucking stuck on geometry every five seconds, requiring me to either push them or all them over. Your companions are also quite talkative, if you so much as walk near them they'll snap at you and shout something like "Hey, watch where you're going". Superfly is kind of funny with lines such as "OH NO, HIRO HAS BEEN BITCH-SLAPPED INTO OBLIVION" when you die, but the Asian lady is flat out annoying. Her voice is shrill and she's just a complete bitch. More on that later.

At several points the AI got itself killed because they decided to melee an enemy I was attacking, or they got blown to bits by these rocket boar things which have become a real pain in my ass at this point.

I should probably talk about the worst level I played so far and the level where most of this paragraph is coming from: The Vault.

The Vault is without a doubt the low point of this game for me so far. The layout makes so sense, the AI is getting stuck everywhere, there's a fuckload of rocket boars that fuck you and your companions' shit up, it's got random pointless setpieces like this one lift that takes you through a bunch of toxic sludge so you can.. walk into a vent?

There were points of this level where I was so stuck the only way I could progress by way of rocketjumping. Even now, I have no idea if that was the intended way forward. It felt like I was sequence breaking the game and at no point does the game teach you that rocketjumping exists nor is there any indication that's what you're meant to do in this exact instance.

This was the level I died the most on, primarily due to these annoying fucking rocket rat and boars. There are way too many of them and they do way too much damage. Oh, I almost forgot! Did I mention yet that all human enemies so far are hitscanners, yet almost all of your weapons are projectile-based? That's super fun. The humans ALSO do a stupid amount of damage, I can't pin down the exact figure but it's at least 20HP.

So after I got through all the bullshit I finally got to the fabled weapon, the Daikatana itself. After a trivial "puzzle" and the closest thing this game has had to a boss fight, I got it and the game went into a cutscene. Finally we're actually introduced to the game's true anatomist proper: Kage Mishima. And it's only a few hours in!

It's generic spiel about Hiro's (the MC) destiny and how Mishima has extreme powers that will take over the world. He's also dressed like a fucking samurai for some autistic reason.

Then something completely unexpected happens.

Mishima pulls an Aku and sends all three of us the way into the past. I'm now a katana-wielding Japanese dude from the future who got sent into the past by an evil overlord. Some real reverse Samurai Jack shit.

This is where the game actually gets very interesting. The shitty industrial future aesthetic is now gone, replaced by ancient Greece. My companions are gone, my weapons are gone (besides for the daikatana), the enemies are totally different and the music sounds like something straight out of Jason & The Argonauts. It's as if it suddenly turned into a completely different game. An actually okay game. It's at this point I also realised how long Daikatana might actually be if I only just completed the first section of the game when I thought I was around 66% through.

The level design makes sense now, the enemies aren't that bad besides for these annoying little spiders that you can barely hit and the overall tone is completely different. It's a breath of fresh air from how the game was previously. You start getting new weapons and they're all actually quite unique, some of them look like weapons from the 2014 game Ziggurat. If you use the daikatana more it gets more powerful, I got it to the point where I could one or two hit most enemies. I'm a fucking lad running around chopping skeletons down with swords and staves in ancient Greece, for once I was actually having some fun. The main problem I had was how inaccurate daikatana is, it seems to strike a random point in front of you. This causes combat to feel reminiscent of Morrowind. But only reminiscent, not even Daikatana's combat is as bad as that, lmao

Then the game pulls a bait & switch and re-introduces your partners. Specifically the Asian lady.

Remember how I said she was a bitch? Well, when you mention you want to find Superfly she goes on a tirade against him OUT OF NOWHERE. She calls him a thug, implies he'll backstab us and says we should leave him behind. I should mention that you only start playing with her on the level prior to this one. Not only have you two barely talked, but I think Superfly only says a single sentence to her. Then Hiro hypes him up for no reason and says Superfly may be the very thing that "tips the scales in our favour" when fighting Mishima. So far he's been little more than a sidekick for you. He's shown absolutely no sign of being anything than a guy who likes to shoot shit.

All of this comes completely out out left field. This is a problem with Daikatana I haven't mentioned yet, the story and writing all feel incredibly rushed. These two under-developed characters start arguing over another under-developed character for absolutely no reason.

After this the game goes back downhill, having to babysit the bitch and trying to finds a weapon for her so she doesn't go Leeroy Jenkins into a fucking Goliath with her bare fists. The level design also goes back to being confusing and lacking in direction.

That's where I'm at now. I've made it this far so I'm basically committed to beating it. I'm also doing this so I have better context for Civvie11's upcoming review.

I'll explain: the game sends you on a savager hunt to find the letters α, ἰ, γ, ί and ς. Ignoring the fact that lower case Greek letters didn't even exist in this time period, but alright.

If you don't know, αἰγίς is the Greek word for "shield". You have to have all five letters to open up a door and fight medusa to beat the episode.

The weird thing is that the game doesn't tell you why you're collecting these letters until the very end, it just throws them at you with no context. Four of them are pretty easy to find, but the very first one, alpha, is hidden in an opaque spider-shaped pool of water. The opacity of the water makes the pool looks very shallow, so I never bothered checking it. I spent easily over an hour scouring the episode across multiple maps trying to find the fucking thing before giving up and consulting a walkthrough. Said walkthrough actually mentioned this was a big problem and there's even a fan patch which fixes it.

I fully, FULLY understand why this game killed Romero's career. It's a fucking mess.

I'm going to structure this differently to the previous posts I made.

Let me list out all the weapons. Most of these aren't their proper names, but they're what I remember them as.

>The Daikatana

>Disc

>Viper staff

>Fire bomb

>Hades' Hammer

>Trident

>Eye of Zeus

For 95% of this episode I used the Daikatana, which has to be leveled up. Before I even finished the episode I already got it to its maximum level and it was stupidly fucking overpowered. I didn't need to use ANY other weapons except to kill golems and flying creatures.

The Disc is a cool concept, but it's fucking worthless. You throw it and it comes back to you, like a boomerang. For some reason you can hold 9 of them but can never throw more than three at once. It's really buggy as well, it gets stuck behind walls and objects but it'll stay there flyign until you walk towards it.

The staff is pretty decent, it does a poison DOT which has exactly 0 practical use. It makes sense in the context of the weapon, but it's not like you're going to shoot something, stop, then come back to shoot it again. It's a pretty hefty weapon too, it's not like some weak little peashooter that makes up for it with poison damage. Mostly used it for taking out the harpies.

The fire bomb is a cool weapon that does the DOT concept better, I only ever used it a few times to kill golems but it absolutely wrecked them in under half a second. Normal enemies were either too weak or weren't on the ground for me to use it a lot.

The hammer is quite possibility the worst weapon in the entire game. It's a melee weapon so it's automatically outclassed by the Daikatana, it fucking HURTS YOU when used, it has an insanely long wind-up, it has a weird delay from you using it to it actually attacking and does shit damage. Worst of all, it usually damages your partners as well. It works by you holding it down to wind it up, then letting go for an AOE strike that hurts everything around you. Cool weapon in concept, but it should have stayed as a concept. Only ever used it to do damage boosts, more on that later.

The Trident is great, towards the end of the episode I found myself using it about as much as the Daikatana. It's like the staff but better, it's balanced by how rare the ammo for it is and how it uses 3 ammo per shot.

I'll talk about the Eye of Zeus later.

So right after I ended this >>16879041 the game turned into a complete fucking mess. The AI is absolute shit but it's really exemplified here, the Asian lady (who's name is Mikiko Ebihara) kept getting stuck on corners and behind doors. I kept having to go back to see where she was because you can't exit a level unless your partners are directly inside your asshole.

The levels went from simple cave designs to faux-Greek buildings with insane architecture and confusing pointless hallways. The first map you find Mikiko on has the start of these buildings. Said building symmetrical and has two floors. You can move freely between the bottom two, but the top two are separated with a roof down the point where the balconies would join. I must have spent 20 minutes walking around trying to figure out where to go before finally damage boosting on the roof with the Hammer. The way you let your partner in is by opening a gear that opens a gate and allows you to walk from the top floor to the bottom. As I said in my other posts, it's hard to tell if you've exploited the game or found the intended way to progress. That said, I think I wasn't supposed to damage boost.

From there you on towards some ruins, and this is the point I wanted to die.

Two hours.

Two hours I spent wandering around trying to figure out what the fuck to do.

Okay, so I'll pick up where I left off here >>16882667 There was a gear in P I T C H B L A C K room. I don't mean dark, I mean NO FUCKING LIGHT WHATSOEVER. I found the thing by accident, something I didn't mention about the firebomb is that it also acts as a torch. This game absolutely loves to get dark at points so I had to use it to find my way more than once. After getting hopelessly lost in the ruins (which shouldn't even be ruins, you're meant to be in 1200 BC after all) I wandered into this completely random hallway while having the firebomb out and saw the gear. I wasn't even angry, I was exhausted.

It opened up some pathway and finally allowed me to progress. I noticed through this I was collecting a bunch of Greek letters. Eventually I cleared through more of the poorly designed buildings and found a giant gate that spelled out αἰγίς. I explained this more here >>16882710 so I won't go into it too much. I do want to point out that lowercase Greek didn't exist in 1200 BC and wouldn't for well over a thousand years later.

The gate opened and lead to the Parthenon which housed the episode's boss, Medusa. The Parthenon is a real building that was built around 750 years after this time period, was located in Athens instead of some buttfuck random desert, didn't look anything like how the game presents it, was never the home to Medusa who lived on an island off the coast of either Libya or Turkey and was a temple. The game at least gets it right that the building was for Athena. The building was not guarded by Roman soldiers however. Forgot to meantion that, but this game has Roman soldiers everywhere who speak English. This is especially strange because the enemies in the next episode don't. The soldiers call you a heretic and a defiler, so they're probably meant to be Christian.

Anyway, the Parthenon has a giant statue of Athena inside. When you walk up onto the top floor and get the Staff of Zeus the statue explodes revealing Medusa's lair. This weapon isn't that great, it's basically an eletric staff that auto-aims hits multiple enemies at once.

So then you get to Medusa, who kills you if you look at her. She also kills your Mikiho, who you have no control over, if she looks at Medusa. This means the only way you can even win the fight is by telling her dumb ass to stay put. Turns out Superfly somehow found Medusa and got turned to stone by her.

I died a few times while fighting Medusa, the only time I died in the whole episode, but I found out you can completely cheese the fight by looking up and using the Staff of Zeus. She goes down in three hits. Besides the dogs from the previous episode, this is the first real boss of Daikatana and she dies in three hits. Great. After you slay her Superfly comes back to life and the Daikatana becomes charged.

Overall this episode was a lot easier than the others, all the enemies were total pushovers who could be dispatched with the Daikatana.

Now that the Daikatana is charged Hiro is able to attempt to travel forwards in time to stop Mishima, but he intersepts you in this strange time void and you two make awkward threatening gestures at each other. Please look up the cutscenes, words do not do them justice.

Mishma sends us forwards in time towards 6th century Norway during a plague outbreak. You lose all of your weapons except for the Daikatana again, including Eye of Zeus which you just got a few minutes ago.

The first weapon you get is a repeating crossbow. It's actually pretty fun to use, but later on in the episode you have a critial lack of ammo for it.

You come across an abandoned town filled with zombies and bats. Oh, the bats. I'll talk about them in a second.

The zombies are special, you have to gib them otherwise they'll get back up after being killed. For some reason they can also, uh, teleport? I'm not sure, they can dissappear for a few seconds and reappear later. I don't know why. They're the main enemy for the first half of the episode.

BUT THE BATS, OH GOD.

They're fucking everywhere, they're hard to hit, they screech, they like to fly directly above you, they're horrid. They remind me of the flies from the first episode.

They're pretty common all through the first three fourths of the episode, but I don't recall seeing them as much towards the end.

I managed to completely break the game in the village by jumping off of Superfly and onto a roof. You're able to walk from rooftop to rooftop and see where textures end and where the level geometry stops. I even managed to softlock the game by jumping into the next loading zone past the actual point the next level was meant to get loaded in. This is easily the most shoddy episode out of the bunch, I wish the screenshot fuction worked correctly otherwise I'd be uploading all the problems I found.

From the village you move onto a church and find a priest who inexplicably can speak modern English fluently. He spouts exposition for ages which basically boils down to a plague being caused by a wizard, the plague killed the king's family which drove him insane and caused him to destroy his magical sword that could have stopped the plague into seven pieces that are scattered around the place. I found all seven pieces pretty easily, none of them were hidden or in obscure locations. Personally I don't see the reason for these pieces even existing, they're randomly along the path throughout the episode. The church has a painfully obvious misallied window texture that makes me wonder if the QA team even tried doing their job. As autistic as it may seem I said "IT'S FUCKING RAW" out-loud when I saw it.

The priest says there's something hidden in the cellar or some shit, I wasn't paying attention. As in tradition with Daikatana, I got stuck again. From the Church you're able to go into a graveyard where you find more zombies. I probably spent 25 minutes walking back and forth between the graveyard and the Church trying to figure out if I missed something. I hated going into celler because it's awkward to get to and it's filled with cold water than actually damages you if you stand in it.

Don't remember how I progressed but honestly it doesn't matter, I probably consulted a walkthrough again. The next enemies you come across are werewolves and archers. The archers speak in Norwegian and the werewolves need to be killed by a special claw you find back in the village, this combined with them being fast automatically makes them the second worst enemy in this episode. The archers are kind of a joke as you can easily dodge all of their attacks.

You fuck around in some caves for awhile before you enter The Dungeon. So now Mikiho's become sick with the plague and Superfly has to carry her which means he can't use weapons anymore, basically turning him into a walking liability. You also find this episode's next weapon - the ballista. One of my personal favourite weapons in the whole game, it's basically a giant crossbow that shoots explosive rounds. You can rocket jump with the thing, it's great. It's severely lacking in ammo, though.

The Dungeon is complete cock and ball torture. It has total Quake vibes without the good gameplay of Quake. Black rock walls, lava everywhere, it's fucking huge with tons of verticality and there's death traps every which way you go. There's apparently an Icon of Sin easter egg somewhere here, but I didn't find it. Honestly, The Dungeon feels like an episode in an of itself. Its aesthetic and design is completely different from the rest of the episode and it just stretches on forever.

It brings with it a new enemy: dwarves. They have Scottish accents and throw axes. I don't know. None of the enemies in The Dungeon fit it at all, why the Hell are there werewolves and bat inside it? Look up some screenshots, you'll see what I mean.

There was yet another point I couldn't get past without using the ballista to rocket jump. I died several times to the lava and death traps while playing, it really sucked the life out of me. The levels in this part of the game are so long and so tedious, it got to the point where I'd just shut the game off when I died and come back to it later. There's this one trap which instakills you if you walk under it. This is going to be hard to explain, but it's like a giant spike weight that comes down instant and crushes you if you walk under it. It happens so fast that the first two times it killed me I thought the game was glitching out.

You get to the next level (still in The Dungeon) and it starts with a boss fight with one of the three wizards, he's a joke. Three hits from the ballista kills him, you can almost kill him before he even starts attacking and he drops one of the best weapons in the whole game: a weird meteor/molten rock staff. Ammo for it is rare, but it wrecks absolutely everything. I saved it for bosses, which this episode actually has quite a lot of. Half the bosses in the entire game are here.

However, actually getting to fight him requires you spent five minutes fucking around with some other enemies and turning some gears or whatever. I actually beat him first try, great! Then Superfly got stuck in the floor.

He got stuck in the floor.

AND HE FUCKING DIED

I had to do all that shit again and fight the boss once more, but beginners luck is very much a real thing. He wasn't the one who killed me, it was the lava that surrounded his platform. You see, lava absolutely destroys you in seconds flat in this game. Something I haven't mentioned about the ballista is that it pushes you back when it fires. I kept fucking LAUNCHING myself INTO THE LAVA. The boss never killed me once, it was always the lava.

When you do kill him, a weird corkscrew platform twirls out of the lava and you have to walk on it. It's at a slope so the game's autistic fucking physics kick in and you go sliding around on it which is made worse by the fact it's super thin. I can't tell you how many times I fell off this fucking thing trying to get to the top. Any time I died? Back to the boss and his bullshit lava and his bullshit platform. At one point a zombie appeared on the platform and caused me to fall off and fall into the molted rock. Great feature right there. Mikiko did something similar to that earlier in the episode but I forgot to mention it.

I had to keep Superfly at the start of the level for its entirety just so he wouldn't fuck up and die.

The rest of the level was bad but mostly bearable - except for another one of Daikatana's trademark "thing you can't fucking see because it's pitch black", this time it was a hallway I didn't see the first ten times I passed it. Thankfully I was paying attention this time considering what happened in Greece.

I'm not even halfway through at this point.

You fuck around in The Dungeon some more until you transition into a castle from this weird elevator thing. The castle is more or less the same as The Dungeon with a different style, honestly don't remember much about it except for all the archers. Still tons of werewolves for some godforsaken reason.

Here you fight the second wizard, he's much harder than the last but still didn't cause me much trouble. His staff isn't very good, it shoots out an electric ball that damages everything around it including yourself. Daikatana loves weapons that damage you.

This shit goes on for ages but honestly I can't remember most of it - it's all the same. This entire section of the game is a complete blur to me. I remember getting stuck at one point because I didn't realise you needed to shoot a barrel through a crack in the wall.

Now you stumble across some notes and another shard of the king's magical sword, shortly after you fight the third and last wizard. He actually managed to kill me, he takes some serious punishment and turns invisible regularly. His staff kills you if no enemies are nearby, which is just fucking great. I talked about it here >>16884608

Now my weapon slots are filled and at this point I've noticed a pattern; whenever you collect the last weapon the episode usually ends shortly afterwards.

From the wizard's crack den we move into a weird cave area that existed behind it where a giant fucking demon is just chilling in a pool of lava making demonic whispers

None of the characters address this.

It's never talked about by Hiro.

Nobody ever mentions he exists.

He's just there.

In front of him is what I think is the last shard of the magic sword. When you collect it he just kind of.. sinks into the lava. Never to be seen again.

You know, that fucking demon was bothering me. I just had to look up a gameplay video to get a screenshot of him.

Usually Superfly would make note of something like this, but he doesn't. They're both super chill about it.

I have no idea why he's here, what he is or what he's doing. It's like he's an asset left over from an earlier point in the game.

This is driving me mad.

Been writing for hours so I took a fairly long break. I'm back now.

>>16888219

From there you move onto the king's throne, try to reason with him and explain you have the cure for the plague (obtained from the notes you read earlier), he spouts generic "crazy person" dialogue such as "Yes.. kill them all" and "Lies, they're all lies!".

He doesn't believe your cure works, thinks you were sent to kill him and begins fighting you. He's not that difficult. After you defeat him he comes to his senses, accepts the now fixed magic sword and charges the Daikatana so Hiro can time travel again.

Once again Mishima intercepts Hiro, but it doesn't work as well and Hiro still gets to his intended destination of California in 2030, though not the exact write location. Beforehand Mishima warns you that you'll be betrayed.

You start off in Alcatraz and oh my god, you get hitscan weapons. Actually good ones! It's beautiful. You get a pistol starting off, and my use of the Daikatana plummets to zero by now. For some reason the prisoners all attack you on sight. They're very weak and their only attacks are punching you and throwing stones.

My power skill was so high at this point I was gibbing the prisoners with one shot. However, the weapons are the only good thing about this episode, because we've got the worst level design by far. The music's pretty bad, too. Really generic rock that's way too annoying to be enjoyable as background music. The level design is really at its worst here, the prison is a fucking mess of hallways and obscure access points. There's a really bizarre set of doors that have to be opened alternately by flipping switches.

When you leave the prison it turns out you have to make a bomb to blow open a wall to escape, so you have to rummage around complex for ages trying to find all the components. I absolutely hate how the game keeps sending you on these fucking errands as if that makes for fun and engaging gameplay.

Once again, I found all but one of the required items. I can't tell you how absolutely and utterly exhausted I was with Daikatana at this point. I just wanted the game to end, but it kept going on and on and on.

After digging around the prison for a half hour I decided to check the walkthrough again. Wanna know where the last item was? A ventilation shaft. But not just that! It was in a hard to see region of the vent you'd have to actively look 90 degrees towards a wall to see, because like I said this game loves to put you in pitch blank areas for no reason.

I put everything together, made a bomb and blew the wall open.

I should probably mention the other weapon I got at this point. It's a shotgun, an actually decent shotgun. It shoots grenades as an alt fire that work a lot like the Demoman's grenade launcher. If something hits the ground it'll roll until it detonates, but if it hits somebody it detonates instantly. Pretty good actually, shame the shotgun is so inaccurate or it would have been my go-to.

So after you blow the wall open you roam around the outside of the prison which for some reason still has prisoners and they still beat you up. I don't remember exactly what happened at one point, but I remember getting down into a water area with sharks, and when I came out the other side my companions spawned on the other side of the map and got instantly gangraped to death by the prisoners. I had to reload and earlier save because of it.

You roam around some docks until eventually you find a boat. Towards the end of this map there are tripwires that instantly kill you and everybody else if you step on them. The room isn't essential and you can walk right past it. You don't know they're laser tripwires until you already trip them so good fucking luck replaying the entire level again.

After you get on the boat the game starts setting up Superfly to betray you. He takes a separate boat, tags behind you and fucks off when other prisoners show up to gun you down on boats. I have no idea what the fuck the deal is with these prisoners or why they don't just LEAVE THE FUCKING PRISON if they have boats.

You crash land on some island with one of Mishima's research centers on it. There are gangsters inside and they absolutely never shut the fuck up. I can't remember exact what they say, but they're all really cocky and have this annoying Californian accent. Not to mention they have maybe 2 or 3 lines they repeat constantly. They're all idle lines, not combat lines.

It's funny to note that some of the black gangsters shoot in that stupid sideways style in a burst fire and are LITERALLY INCAPABLE of hitting you if you crouch. They'll always shoot the floor just in front of you. Bravo Romero.

The building is semi-collapsed and awkward to navigate. It was all so samey that I can't really recall much of it.

Tired as hell, may finish this tomorrow.

It's been ages since I played this game but I still remember how fucking terrible this game was in just about every single way imaginable.

>AI

The AI is a disgusting mess that has no self preservation and has almost no rhyme or reason to their job priority. They won't stay behind the walls at night either, so there have been days where the AI has prioritized moving a catapult across the right side of the map over the course of two days only to run all the way to the forest in the left side at night and all kill themselves because I accidentally marked a single tree to get cut down four days ago and forgot about it because none of the workers ever did it. The archers also won't go to different sides once they choose a side to stick to, so unless you meticulously micromanage them you will always have one side that has 40 archers that can instantly obliterate every single wave while the other side has two guys.

>Gameplay

There is no gameplay. You do nothing but run in a straight line and hire archers and peasants until you have enough people to brute force a win. It's a strategy game the same way messing with an AI's patterns in an RTS on easy mode is a strategy game. The game's idea of increasing difficulty is to just send fifteen nearly unkillable enemies that endlessly spawn enemies over to only one side and hope you don't have enough archers and catapults to instantly kill them before they instantly kill you. It's just an hour of you and the AI saying "no my stick is bigger than yours" to each other until you get enough people to be able to survive the final zerg rush.

>Graphics

The river is pretty, I guess. That's about it.

>Story

Some faggot stole Niggly Wiggly's Shibbledibble and you have to go fucking get it.

>Everything else

There is nothing else. The entire game is you looking at a river while hiring as many archers as possible until you can brute force a win because the devs think strategy means being patient enough to do the only thing you can possibly do to win.

Romero went full-time producer after Doom 2, which he also designed a reduced number of levels on compared to 1. He did this because he produced the Raven Software games that came out in the interim (Heretic, Hexen) and it seemed to pad his ego enormously, even though one was a Doom clone in the literal meaning of the phrase and the other, while having a special place in my heart because of its cool aesthetic and choice of characters, is pretty rough around the edges. I don't think Romero really had a hand in the design details of the game, because he was seemingly infatuated with the "big shot" lifestyle, and became lazier based on multiple accounts. He was probably more like the George Lucas type, where he would walk into some sort of cohesive design you were making that was shaping up to be decent, and then tell you to change it into something retarded after looking at it for 10 seconds.

Yeah, definitely one of the worst recent DBZ games. Even Xenoverse was miles ahead of that game because the combat was more enjoyable even with the hilariously unbalanced moves. At least that made it memorable. They essentially took elements from previous DBZ games, made them shittier, and threw them together. It is as if someone who had only read about the previous DBZ games on paper and never seen a video or played any of them decided to make the next DBZ game.

I'll try to finish.

You go from the collapsed building into some kind of research center, I vaguely remember going through a clusterfuck of underwater tunnels to get there. Around this time you get another weapon, this weird ice-shooter gun. It's one of the few that isn't hitscan so far. I almost never used it, it doesn't do a lot of damage and the projectiles bounce around with a pretty high chance of hitting you as well. Another one of Daikatana's weapons that should have been scrapped.

Once inside you'll notice most of the enemies are reskins of the ones outside, you even have the same guys who can't hit you if you crouch. However, there are shotgun soldiers you can tank your health pretty fast if you're not paying attention.

You dick around for awhile until you get to the point where you can tell the devs played the opening of Half-Life one too many times.

You know the Half-Life's intro, with the really long train ride? Well, Daikatana tries its at at that in this level. Several times. Except each time absolutely nothing happens. This is quite possibly one of the worst sections in the entirety of the game. There are three of these slow-moving panels that travel through tunnels to get into other areas. Each area leads to a room with a door locked behind a colored keycard. You have no way of knowing what color keycard is needed until you actually travel through the tunnels and enter the rooms, one of them holds a blue keycard, the other two hold nothing other than health, ammo and enemies. So you have to fuck around through these tunnels looking for the right room.

Step on the pad, enter the tunnel.

Wait.

Oh, this isn't the right room? Travel back out through the tunnel.

Wait.

Get on the next pad and enter the next tunnel.

Wait.

Oh, this ALSO isn't the right room? Travel back out.

Wait.

Get on the next pad and enter the next tunnel.

Wait.

Oh, so this room has the keycard! Get back out through the tunnel.

Wait.

Can't remember which room contained the blue keycard? Just enter a random pad.

Wait.

Whoops, wrong room! Gotta go back out now.

Wait.

Get on the OTHER pad and travel through the OTHER tunnel.

Wait.

Finally! The door that contains the blue keycard. Open it, travel through fuck around for a few minutes, get the next keycard and go back out through the tunnel.

Wait.

Which one of these rooms was the other color, again? Just pick a random one.

Wait

YET-A-FUCKING-GAIN it's the WRONG FUCKING ROOM. OH WELL.

WAIT

LET'S TRY THE O T H E R PAD

WAIT

OH, GREAT, THIS WAS THE RIGHT PLACE. GOOD. VERY NICE.

I've done this sort of thing too but with FFXIII. Honestly I don't even think the game was that bad, just plain boring and way too fucking grindy and a cast that no one could ever give a shit about so still pretty bad but is as widely hated as it is because of how hard they fucking pushed it and Lightning which I find funny because when I first played FFXIII I thought she was one of the better characters and now she's the worst

Indeed, FF13 wasn't too bad, just horribly linear. Anything Sazh did was easily the best part of course, but overall the story was passable and the characters who weren't Hope were at least tolerable

FF13-2 is where it's at though, with nonlinearity throughout, tons of sidequests, an interesting story with a new twist on time travel (that being time-displaced events, incorrectly referred to as paradoxes. Rectifying them can change the past as well as the future), and almost no Lightning for the entire game

the thing that spooks me most about sonic 06 was that I had a friend who LOVED the game, like it was maybe his favorite game on the PS3 besides Ratchet and Clank

I thought the sonic anime was decent, and I really like the original Sonic games (I had Sonic 1 thru Knuckles), so I figured it was probably a good game. He only let me play it once and I didn't like it all that well, but I just chalked that up to not having played enough to have mastery ober the controls. Little did I know this dude was in love with one of the most infamously bad games ever made for at least a month of his life.

God PSP Dissidia Tifa was the fucking peak, they should've used this as a base model for the remake instead of the crap they did.

Fuck man, sorry. I keep putting it off because I'm lazy and I don't remember as much of the game anymore because it's a few weeks after the fact. I currently have a txt file of the next post.

So I started playing The First Encounter for the first time. I put it on the highest difficulty and I'm kinda shocked.

This game isn't very good. The levels are massive sprawls of empty desert. The game is really hostile to the player and spawns tons of enemies for picking up small items, or spawns a hitscanner behind you when walking through a hallway.

Why is this considered such a classic?

That stream is legendary, I believe it's the only game he never managed to beat.

For reference: he once spent over 13 hours straight trying to beat his own level in Mario Maker 2.

Longtime streamer, one of the really early ones before normalfags came into the hobby. He has segments called Hardcore Friday where he beats games in one sitting. They can go one for hours and hours.
