Either because you lost your savefile, lost interest or any other reason.

I for example Never finished DOOD 2 because holy shit what a fucking horrible level design.

Dragon's Dogma

There isn't much to say, its walking through empty, barebones towns at an extremely boring rate

Pawns are annoying too, and there was basically no combat; I got so bored I just threw people off the cliff and dropped it within 2-4 hours

I dunno if I'll ever touch it again; people keep trying to convince on here and maybe its worth it but goddamn its hard with a game like that

One of my few regretted purchases.

Same. Though i gotta say i been getting pretty impatience with games lately. If i don't figure out what to do within 20 minutes (unless the whole point is that the game is a puzzle like Portal) i drop it. Kinda the reason i also dropped Metroid Prime.

I've bought so many games without playing them all the way through I've lost count. Most of them were trash handheld third party games or shovelware. Off the top of my head I can think of Shadow the Hedgehog, bought it used at Gaystop because it looked cool, had no idea it had such a bad reputation. Ended up hating everything about it, didn't understand the multiple storylines, controls were fucking terrible. I can probably think of more but I'd rather not relive it.

I recently got bored of Metroid Prime 2, but I think that's just because I burned myself out by marathoning the entire series. I'll have to get back to it eventually. After that I burned myself out on Mega Man X6 after playing the rest of them, but at least everyone seems to agree that's the worst one.

I still feel bad for not finishing The Adventures of Tron Bonne. Again I think I just shouldn't have tried to play it immediately after finishing Mega Man Legends. I'll have to try again later.

>>16851939

I like Shadow the Hedgehog. It has major flaws, but not being able to understand multiple storylines means you're just a retard. It's a simple branching path thing. Play a bunch of times to see more paths.

Borderlands, too fucking boring.

Dark Messiah, started out great but became so extremely easy towards the end (max difficulty, even) that I got disappointed and didn't finish.

Arx Fatalis, too stupid to figure out how to get the troll idol thing without shanking the goblin king on the toilet and causing all goblins to go after me, and too ashamed to look up a guide.

E.Y.E, frequently respawning enemies that immediately run toward you, very annoying.

I had a habit of getting about 95% of the way through the intermediate Final Fantasy games, then quitting before the end and never actually finishing it, or going back years later to replay it and finish it on an emulator. With FFXII, I quit before the halfway point or so, because the game was janky and uninteresting. The Zodiac version I tried later, and it was a lot more interesting. I still quit it at about the halfway point, mostly because I wanted the disk space for something else. Come to think of it, I've been sitting on Okami pretty far in for the last year or so, too, and I'm getting a little jealous of those 35 GB (of movies for the credits).

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. I started playing this one right after I marathon'd the first three mainline MGS games. So coming off of Snake Eater, which was so fucking good, then going to this game which had a completely different gameplay structure, I was just turned off by it. I think in the future when I do get back to replaying the MGS games, I'll start with Peace Walker then work my way through the mainline games.

Similarly, I also dropped Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep (partway through Terra's story) right after finishing KH, KH:CoM, and KHII. So perhaps it has something to do with just getting burnt out from marathoning games in the same franchise.

Witcher 3

Played for 40 hours only to realize it was boring as shit and can only be enjoyed by peak normalfags

SMT4A

The final dungeon is by far the WORST DESIGNED level I have ever witnessed in my ENTIRE FUCKING LIFE and I played probably hundreds of videogames by now and nothing turned me away harder than YHVH's incoherent maze like, teleport crazy, absolute abortion of a final dungeon.

Crosscode

The games dungeons are full of hard as fuck puzzles but I am simply too retarded to beat the final dungeon or even get past the second room.

Halo:ODST

I was around 11-12 at the time I was playing it, I binged a good portion of the way though but I just got burned out way too fast because I had a tiny little kid brain, I couldn't truly appreciate the game for the masterpeice it actually was.

Castle Crashers

I have nobody to play it with.

Fallout New Vegas

Its a shitty game. That's all.

Rain World

Buying that game was a mistake.

The lonely atmosphere, story and music make for an amazing and outright beautiful experience that I highly doubt that I will find playing any other game. Seeing the war in a perspective that wasnt in Master Cheifs for once was an interesting take on the game too, being a vulnerable and alone little bitch in an evacuated (from what I remember) covenant infested city is something else holy shit.

Also I never managed to beat 2 due to my disk being broken and only allowing me to play the first level, is 2 that good or just eh? The game is unfinished so I'm guessing the latter?

Elminage original and class of heroes 2 the latter because it's harder than even most dungeon RPGs to find gear and money so expect to be stuck with your starting gear, for the most part, crafting system is very tedious with having to craft the same material to get better materials and the ones you can get are hard to come by in drops and expensive to buy but the most infuriating part is that you have to backtrack == All THE WAY TO THE STARTING AREA EVERY TIME TO RETURN TO BASE! == Unless you have a ticket which is either crazy expensive or seldom drops. I had to use a crafting guide from the localizers themselves in order to make this game less of a hassle.

I mostly drop games because something comes up in my life that distracts me from them for too long, and I just never get back into the rhythm of playing them, so to speak. I had big Macroecon tests that kept me from finding the Water Chip, graduating high school stopped me from finding the G.E.C.K., the entirety of Organic Chemistry stopped me from getting past Chinatown, and summer school (and the loss of some close friends) prevented me from reaching Evan's Castle.

The out of combat sections were utterly miserable because they were devoid of anything worth anything.

The combat sections were repetitive and boring. This was because

>the enemy design is focused to having enemies be damage and health upgrades of each other, but on a high enough difficulty it doesn't matter because the shit tier zombies can deal 40 damage to you with a swipe and you can heal off all of it since glory kills heal you massively when you're on low health

>popping off a canned animation in an FPS isn't a particularly good idea.

>Enemy spawn numbers were pathetic and it means that fights never ramp up or give you an "o shit" moment

>Terrain was never used in a clever way

As such fights seem to end way too quickly before the music kicks in. Also, the music is Djent which is the one genre of music I hate more than mumble rap.

Simon whatshisname(the guy who was in a robotic body) and Vega wouldn't shut the fuck up, it had those half life esque sections where you're stuck in a closed room listening to some fucktard run his mouth off because you can't progress until you pay attention to the EPIC SWEEPING STORY and I hate this retarded doom slayer fanfiction, especially since you're never actually in a position to feel like you're this badass legendary killing machine, just a halo guy.

Then right when I was about to drop the game, it teases something called thrust boots and I think the game's about to turn into vanquish or something, finally a movement gimmick and maybe now the game's finally going to ramp up, it turns out to be an utterly pathetic excuse for a double jump. I quit the game then.

The game itself is gorgeous though, it definitely warrants a play for those who only wants to look at the landscape in the game.

Bloodborne. The performance was absolutely abysmal. 30fps if you're lucky, muddy visuals due to sub 1080 resolution, coupled with some kind of anti-aliasing that fell out of a jar of vaseline, and the typical "read the wiki if you want anything explained" mentality "hard" games have these days, etc.

And for a game that relies on split-second timing for counters, so much more so than Souls games because no (viable) shields, having a shit frame-rate is a deal-breaker for me.

Most games I quit because chronic depression from dealing with normalfags all day every day makes it really hard to do anything.

Vagrant Story Really liked it. Just kept putting it down for extended periods of time until I lost track of what was happening and never picked it up.

Arx Fatalis Enjoyed the absolute hell out of it. I've seen almost everything except the ending. Even the dwarven mines. I realized I fucked up by going heavy into stealth, so I rerolled as a mage. Got pretty far but then just stopped playing.

Ultima Underworld Picked it up because I liked Arx so much. Couldn't really get into it the same way I got into Arx. It was probably a combination of NPCs dialogue looping (even when you piss them off) and the tiny viewport

System Shock 1 Really wanted to play this game and the sequel. Just had a hard time finding time and motivation to do so. Explored the first area a bit and found some secrets before never starting it up again.

Might and Magic 6 Ran around the first area for a bit before getting bored.

Heroes of Might and Magic 2 I got pretty far in the good campaign, but eventually just lost interest. I know 3 is the best but this one's art style really won me over.

Daggerfall I got out of the first dungeon then quit. I knew right away I don't have the time to invest to figure out how to get the most out of this game.

Morrowind I did a good amount of the quests and saw a lot of the world. I was wrapping up the main quest when I just stopped playing.

Oblivion I played this one during a time when I could still go full autism over a game. The optimistic charm the game has won me over. I did everything except the main quest.

Thief 3 Dark project and Metal Age are 2 of my all time favorite games. This one gave me motion sickness for some reason.

Styx Master of Shadows Played it a little bit. Something about it turned me off. I guess it just didn't feel as fluid as Thief.

Dishonored Fucking hated it.

Dishonored's art style is offensive, Thief 3 was too dark on my old shitty tv, and Arx was Xbox and I had a beef with the control scheme for spells if I remember correctly. I stayed away from Styx because it looked exactly like the game you have to struggle to get through or mod the main character some more palatable.

>Tried again in 2015 the PC version after I got a new gaming PC, improved graphics + 60 fps did nothing for me, again couldn't play past the first main chapter

>Trying it again right now with the just-released GOG version, this time I got a bit further, currently on the third chapter (bridge). Probably won't finish it again as I'm still not enjoying it at all despite progressing further into the game.

Going to get into a bit of a rant here, but since I'm playing through it again right now, there's so many things fucking wrong with this game. I wonder how it could get as much praise as it did.

>Atrocious artstyle to the point of being downright offensive like f53040 said

>For a game that supposedly favors stealth approach to combat (even giving a better ending for players who favor stealth non-lethal takedowns), they sure did a terrible job with the stealth mechanics and the game is much more fun to play, and much easier, if you just go Rambo on everyone;

>Stealth mechanics are terribly inconsistent and unreliable, especially regarding to AI detection, sometimes an NPC will spot you from literally hundreds of feet away while you're sitting in the shadows - I've even had NPCs seeing me through walls. Other times you'll be sitting right next to them and they will take a long time noticing you if at all - same with hearing. AI sight and hearing detection appear to be partially tied to some kind of RNG.

>If you're doing a stealth playthrough, AI patrol routes can also be maddeningly frustrating because they also seem to be partially random. AI will often suddenly stop in their tracks right in the middle of their path and turn around, for no reason at all (it's not because they heard the player or anything… they often do this even if you're just observing them from afar, sitting still in a vantage point)

>It's ridiculous that with a MC who's supposed to be basically steampunk Solid Snake/Raiden in terms of skill, and even has supernatural powers, other than using sleep darts there's no proper way to takedown an enemy non-lethally once they aggro you (I've learned about the trick of using blink to get in the enemies' backs during combat and choking them, but that's not what I'd call a proper way);

>Most powers and perks are absolutely useless;

>Despite playing the newest build of an 8-year old game, it's still full of bugs, glitches and jank;

Once I complete the current chapter I'm playing, I'm going to try just ditching stealth and play it like an action game in the next chapter to see if I can get at least some enjoyment out of it, good ending be damned.

Some more games I never bothered to beat are

Dying Light

Friend told me to get this one even though my instincts were telling me that this shitty western game is shit and not to even bother with it, but who would have thought? I was right all along. The gameplay was okay but the characters, story and no fast travel was absolute aids.

Fire Emblem:Fates

Worst game in the franchise, has some of the generically worst traits you would see in any JRPG out there. I wanted to find something good about the game, I wanted to find some enjoyment and I wringed it hard to drip out any and all fun I could get but all I got was shit instead.

Minecraft

Its minecraft, do I really need to say any more?

The game is boring as fuck and playing it feels more like a job, I have more fun with SS13 which is an actual job simulator than with minecraft.

Stalker

I forgot to play with the "patch" mod, the game was a complete and total mess, it was only something an autstic BYLATboy could live.

Postal 2

I really don't know why I never got around to beating it, I really need to give it another go one of these days.

Was really enjoying the game as a Toreador seductress until I got to the Giovanni's mansion mission and there appeared to be a gamebreaking bug which prevented me from advancing the game any further. I can't remember what it was specifically, but I remember looking it up and realizing it was a known issue, even with the community patch apparently. There was some scripted event or cutscene that just wasn't occurring. It had been smooth sailing for me to that point, so I had just been overwriting my saves for a while and my last save from outside that mission was from ages ago. I had encountered a few serious bugs up to that point as well. I was disappointed that the community patch didn't fix them.

>>16851907

>I for example Never finished DOOD 2 because holy shit what a fucking horrible level design.

As a devoted classic Doom fan since single digit years of age, I must say that you are absolutely correct and Sandy Petersen is a cocksmoker. And to a lesser extent John Romero because he made a couple of levels in 2 on the basis of "Wouldn't it be funny if…"

The levels get OK towards the latter part, but boy those city levels are nearly unbearable. Here's a tip for you: When I was a kid, I used the Doom95 launcher which allowed you to start on any map. That made the games much more enjoyable for me. Doom's all about the levels so just pick whatever levels are actually good. Any level worth its salt is playable on pistol start as well – there isn't a reason for continuity at any point, unless you're just checking out a level set for the first time.

You know, it's ironic that Romero left during Quake because he felt the studio was getting stagnant, when they had seemingly just mastered FPS level design. Quake vanilla is their best group of levels and some of the best in FPSes. Doom 2's level design by comparison was far more stagnant compared to the first game, often having to rely on gimmicks to make specific levels interesting (Barrels O' Fun, etc). You should play Quake 1, if you haven't already. Almost no hitscan enemies is a great bonus too.

Oddly enough, MGSV is basically a sequel to Peace Walker in both gameplay and story elements. I liked it, but it's definitely very "mobile" in its design (shorter levels so you can play them on your lunch break and what have you along with progression that kinda pads out the game).

>>16852001

He would never let me play his save file. >>16852108

>Just ignore glory kills

I'm glad you can enjoy the game, but having to ignore one of the most-marketed features of the game just for it to not be annoying is not good design. Plus he is right when he says that exploring the level was in most cases boring. I thought they were actually on to something when in the 2nd or 3rd level, you can find the "secret" (not that well hidden honestly) plasma rifle on top of the broken elevator car, but 95% of the time it's one of those fucking bobbleheads. Having to artificially RPG mechanic your ammo count up to par was also insanely annoying – even more so than health and armor.

>>16854028

I enjoyed MGSV but it got repetitive like almost every sandbox game does. The critical difference is that PW isn't a sandbox game. It's a mission-based game with a similar progression system. Missions are nice from a design perspective because you don't have to account for everything happening all the time – it gives you control. I think PW has a "cleaner" design, if that makes sense. Kind of like comparing Doom to a game like modern Far Cry (if modern Far Cry wasn't complete shit, but instead just kinda bloated). Almost all the mechanics feel like they have a very specific and useful purpose in the former, whereas in the latter you have a giant box full of options to solve any problem. Which is fun for a while but also makes the game easy once you try out all the options and figure out which ones are best, because unless you're a master at design, there's usually one or only a few that stand out.

I tried every companion in MGSV and at first I dismissed D-WALKER, then I realized I could roller skate all over the map like a 90's kid, equip the missile launcher to instantly shit on any unexpected vehicles, and leave it in a convenient spot by a hill so I could just skate across to the other side of the mission area. The mobility was worth more than anything. Quiet actually annoys me with her humming and D-DOG feels like a straight-up easy button, so I got bored of him after a while. Plus he becomes less useful once you get a feel for the AI's behavior. A wealth of options for the player always seems like a good thing on paper, but it can make designing the rest of the game a lot more difficult.

Those are the games I can think of that I bailed on at the last possible second because I couldn't bring myself to care enough to beat them. I also bailed on Subnautica after a couple hours because I realized it was nothing but running around looking for parts so I can build basic shit while playing peek-a-boo with leviathans. I also bailed on Witcher 3 after a couple hours because that game sucks massive cock.

I tried playing it without the powers including the teleport, somewhat like Thief. Game is still really unenjoyable. It just comes down to 2 things: Visually it feels blurry when playing and controls feel clunky/slow. I guess these 2 things aren't a problem when you're just mindlessly following arrows and using powers that play the game for you.

Most of them. I have this weird video game ADD where I'll play a game, enjoy it, then play another game, enjoy it, then play another game that has me hooked for some reason so I binge it for a couple weeks and beat it. Then by the time I come back around to the previous games I play, I'm too far from the beginning and already forgot most of what was going on and I'm no longer well adjusted enough to the mechanics in order to fully enjoy the game. So, I start over from the beginning, and likely get distracted by another game.

I've always stood by the opinion that Quake is 10x better than Doom, and no matter how many times I play Doom, my opinion just won't change. Yes, the enemy count is much less because of technical limitations, but it actually compensates for it by having more than 3 of the same repeated enemies over and over again, and they all have unique patterns. It gets even better when you factor in the enemy placement in Quake, because the game will often combine multiple enemies in one encounter to give you a more interesting challenge.

And from what I understand, Romero was asked to leave Id Software because he was constantly being a whiny little bitch about Quake not being that first person RPG he wanted to make.

I could never make it past more than 5 game days without being bored out of my skull. Really feels like you've seen just about everything once you've passed 5 game days in 10 playthroughs. I couldn't make it past mission 2 without turning the game off. It's plagued by the early 2010's cancer of

Which lets normalfags feel as if they're playing a game without being "casual".

I was actually so disgusted by Dishonored that I reinstalled Hitman Blood Money just to cleanse my spirit.

I think it was more due to his complete lack of direction for Quake, leading his team in circles, causing game delays, and of course a design that was nowhere close to the road to success.

To add to that, instead of doing his job with Quake (right up until crunch-time) he was out producing titles like Heretic and Hexen. That's fair, as it was making id money, but it was pretty much the equivalent of job abandonment.

Despite Romero's ego, he had a valid point at the time. Everyone else on id said, "Well DUH, we're making another sci-fi gore shooter because that makes money. What are you, retarded?" To which Romero responded, "You've sold out." And despite id's "selling out" looking like a lemonade stand in the wake of modern AAA behemoths, it was true back then. Remember all the games that licensed the Quake engines (all 3 of them)? They had real competition from the Unreal engine, but I'm pretty sure id still carried a majority market share in engine licensing until the mid-2000's.

Romero was retarded to leave because he had the best team available, but what he said was true. It's just that he seems more wrong in retrospect because the fantasy games he helped produce didn't sell as well as Doom or Quake (which makes sense, since they were derivative). However, being a star producer/designer at the time, I think it would have been smart to try and channel Romero's ideas into a better game than Heretic or Hexen because people usually learn a thing or two after making a couple of average or even bad games. He's a hack now, but I wonder how history might have changed if he had even a slight shift in attitude.

Yeah, from what I understand he became absorbed with the "rock star" bullshit and began going to the office less frequently in his Lambo. He definitely needed to change, I'm just saying he had a kernel of truth when he said they sold out. I would have liked to see id try something different after Quake 1. Quake 2 and 3 were solid multiplayer games, but 2's campaign was meh and 3 set the awful trend of "Heh, hope you were born in the late 80s or early 90s so you know how to play FPSes already because we sure as fuck aren't going to help you," which inevitably led to the death of arena shooters. UT was better for new players because it had amazing bots. Allegedly, 40% of UT players only played against bots, kind of like RTS players. I feel like Quake 1 was a peak and 2 and 3 were just trying to ride that success out. It was a plateau.

<nitpick - the post

>Atrocious artstyle to the point of being downright offensive like f53040 said

I liked it, it's a question of taste I guess. I struggle to find an objective reason to hate it.

>For a game that supposedly favors stealth approach to combat (even giving a better ending for players who favor stealth non-lethal takedowns), they sure did a terrible job with the stealth mechanics and the game is much more fun to play, and much easier, if you just go Rambo on everyone;

I dare you to go rambo on the highest difficulty setting and then whine it's easy. It's arguable whether the game favors the stealthy approach if it gives you loads of lethal weapons and ways to dispose of enemies. See video.

No argument here, stealth has its bugs and quirks but so does Thief, no game is purely without issues here. But as I said the game isn't necessarily about stealth.

And how is it bad that people aren't robots that can only walk around on a set pattern?

>It's ridiculous that with a MC who's supposed to be basically steampunk Solid Snake/Raiden in terms of skill, and even has supernatural powers, other than using sleep darts there's no proper way to takedown an enemy non-lethally once they aggro you (I've learned about the trick of using blink to get in the enemies' backs during combat and choking them, but that's not what I'd call a proper way);

A fair point, they should've added more non-lethal weapons.

>Most powers and perks are absolutely useless;

Debatable. Might agree if you speak from stealth standpoint, but in combat most of them can be used effectively.

>Despite playing the newest build of an 8-year old game, it's still full of bugs, glitches and jank;

It's a 2012 AAA game and has the graphical fidelity of a 2004 game. The artstyle is nice in theory, but the execution was awful.

> I dare you to go rambo on the highest difficulty setting and then whine it's easy.

Nigger, most of us HAD to put it on the hardest difficulty because otherwise it would have just been a crawling sim. And yes, the powerups and swordplay are much more fun than the stealth approach. You're not punished at all for being "caught" by enemies.

> No argument here, stealth has its bugs and quirks but so does Thief

Most stealth games don't let you kill off an entire room full of people with a crossbow without getting caught. Even Deus Ex got that right back in 2000.

>But as I said the game isn't necessarily about stealth.

Mental gymnastics are strong here, Redditor.

> Bullshit, finished it two times and never encountered anything significant, let alone game-breaking. Name one at least.

He never said game breaking, he said jank. While I didn't run into many technical issues, the AI was horrible and inconsistent. For instance, I once crouched on a pipe close to the ceiling and shot off a guy's head. The person LITERALLY 3 FEET FROM HIM immediately went into "huh?" mode, patrolling the area trying to find out what the noise was for 30 seconds. By the time he was done and didn't see my crouching on a pipe that was only 9 feet away from the floor, he went back to his original position and calmed down.

AND THEN

he saw the dead body, and went into the alert "FIND THAT BASTARD AND DON'T LET HIM ESCAPE" mode.

This wasn't just a one time occurance. You can break this game so easily it's not even funny. Only people who like it are Redditors with no standards for challenge or quality.

Yes, as long as they don't trigger the alarms or you kill them all at once. If you're hiding somewhere and you shoot a guy in the head, then that's it. The enemies are on permanent alert mode and you need to change your strategy ASAP.

The easiness of the game was actually its own challenge to overcome for me. I knew that when I did the 4th or so mission and got S rank Octopus that something was wrong. I am not that good at MGS games. It got to the point where I had to deliberately challenge/limit myself to make the gameplay more interesting. "Today I'm only going to use the silenced 1911, frag grenades, and CQC" for example, because I normally never use those things. I never even touched the rocket fist because of how absurd I already knew that was. I appreciate that they tried to mitigate it somewhat by having the soldiers adapt to repeated tactics, but there's so many options available and some of them don't really ever get "fully defeated" (If I remember right, the decoy balloon always lures chumps, which makes it always useful regardless of how fast they realize it's a decoy, but I never really used it much).

<In Deus Ex you can machinegun people or blow them up with LAM's and get away with it freely as long as you don't let the enemies trigger the alarms.

I have to call this one out. Normally I avoid arguing with people when they are defending a game I had 0 enjoyment with, but this is just so absurd something needs to be said.

Fact #1) If you aren't using a silenced weapon people in other rooms will hear your shit and sound the alarm. If you don't kill all the NPCs in a room with your machine gun (assuming you found the silencer) before they shoot back at you the alarm will sound.

Fact #2) LAMs are really rare and if you're using it to take out a group of people you're just wasting precious resources. Not to mention you're guaranteed to alert someone if it's not on an isolated group

Fact #3) Even with non-lethal the crossbow in Deus Ex is nothing compared to the one in Dishonored. On vanilla it only works if you dumped all your points into pistols AND added all your weapon mods to your crossbow AND you land a headshot when the thing has drop off AND whoever you hit can run a few feet before passing out. Not to mention tranq darts are fairly uncommon. If you use the tranq gun for everything you'll run out fast.

The decoy grabs the targeting priority even if you throw it while they're firing at the real you.

throwing a decoy and detonating it will also knock out anyone standing near it

The game has non-existent level design, the hard cap of 12 NPC's of any kind per 300 meters radius so the only challenge is either really high level FOB autism, or gimping yourself.

So the only difficulty comes from gimping yourself and breaking the gameplay loop or becoming addicted to the gameplay loop and FOB autism that only serves to give you more resources for BIGGER NUMBERS in FOB autism.

bonus fun facts, AI doesn't care if you pull the trigger with an empty gun to a "click" sound, or when they see the gun be empty, something that was a feature in MGS2 and 3.

Soldiers can pull out infinite amount of handguns when breaking out of hold up and when awakened after a KO without their gun it doesn't matter, they will us powers of earth bending to materialize from the ground

Dishonored isn't great but you're just retarded. The game isn't buggy hard or whatever it's way too fucking easy. Every area gives you far too much vent and ceiling space to hide in, you can instantly teleport all over the map, you can stop time and sprint past shit, mana regenerates, sleep darts KO enemies instantly etc. The level design is just far too open, making stealth a complete joke. Congrats on being too scrub for babby's first Thief.

I don't know if this is true at all. I only played the first few levels but I didn't see anything as open as "Shipping and Receiving" from Thief 2. Even Deus Ex has really massively open levels that encourage you to take any approach and the stealth is still fairly difficult. It's everything you said earlier in your post that makes it so easy.

>Also, the art style is actually pretty good, the textures just suck because of last-gen tech.

The art style is OK. It's like a mix of Bioshock, HL2 and Thief's art style. It's the fucking graphics. They just use all sorts of tricks consoles use to hide the limitations that makes the game world fucking terrible to traverse. Shit blurs together and they had to use icons, waypoints and silhouetting as a crutch to hide this fact.. It makes the game unplayable for me.

Wew, I think I have plenty of it

GH3 on Expert is one, got to finish the last venue but the boss fight is complete luck, since you're on the maximum difficulty the chances of getting the double notes and getting rekt increases much more than on hard

Wind Waker because I couldn't emulate it properly back then, same for Ace Combat 5

I managed to get to the last boss of Contact but I had to grind a bunch of items to beat it and had to give my phone to my mom since it's broken as shit, same goes for A Witch's Tale and the normal difficulty of Elite Beat Agents

Delta Force as well, managed to finish the operations in Peru and left it halfway on Chad since it stopped looking interesting and I was constantly losing. Despite being just terrain with some cheap buildings I liked the setting fighting against drug lords instead of just more conflicts. Plus the lines they were saying were fucking great

Same for Disgaea, I ended up with this idea that "I'll play it once I get my headphones", which turned to "I'll play it once I have a key for my room". Didn't touch the game after 1 2? years, dropped it after the red moon.

Infinifactory I dropped it around the third area I think. I was too obsessed with getting the highest frequency and seeing the mistakes create an abomination spooked me a lot. I'm also pretty retarded so that can be taken into account

Doom 2 as well, was making the switch to linux and I dropped it on the level that is supposed to be "The City" with a big arrow pointing to some stairs I ended up returning to Windows anyways

Now that I think about it THPS was also something I left halfassed, maybe I didn't find the game interesting after playing THPS2 before it

I also was replaying Binary Domain but I left it since it's pretty generic.

Hollow Night has shit platforming mixed with a shit camera and animations that don't feel fluid at all

Most GTAs as well, I just do some missions, fuck around for a bit, and then never touch them again.

Didn't finish a replay of Mother 3 since I found the story dragging too long compared to Earthbound.

Also didn't finish GHWT since I wanted to finish the bass, drums and guitar story modes all at the same time, but then I had the "If I finish this game I'll never touch it again" drama. Never acknowledged that if I stop playing them I'll also won't touch them again.

Banjo Kazooie, something fell odd of the game but don't know why, didn't have a problem with DK64 but maybe it was because I played that on console instead of emulating it.

XCOM as well, I posted a bit on a thread and then I stopped playing it. I have this trend of talking about a game I was playing, and then stop playing it entirely after it, don't know what that is.

Killer 7 as well, I was emulating it on Linux but since I had to reinstall the distro I've lost most of the progress.

Same with STALKER, had to wipe the SDD and the game was there, now no longer is there

I think the list can go on but I have to remember it first

This one as well, was baffled by the fact you can't have something to travel faster

I think my best bet is only gachashit and multiplayer, can't seem to mantain a longing relationship with a game without just giving up in one shape or the other

I mean open as in there's no invisible walls and most of the bigger maps let you teleport up to the roof where there's no enemies, including the final level.

Offhandedly:

>Final Fantasy V

Kinda scratched my itch on it. Didn't get far, still on my "to complete eventually" list.

>Final Fantasy VI

See above.

>Chrono Cross

Played it a bit as a child, came back to it years later. Didn't have the motivation to complete it, didn't get far.

>Pokemon Colosseum

Got reasonably far here, but the forced double trainer battles only format sorts fucks with me.

>Dragon Warrior Monsters

The fact that there's such a tight limitation on how many monsters you can raise fucks with me.

>Kingdom Come: Deliverance

Ended up getting a copy for someone else and spent time watching them play it instead.

>Shovel Knight

Haven't even actually started up this one yet. Definitely on the backlog.

>Baiten Kaitos

Didn't have the juice to go all the way into it.

>Pokemon Conquest

Tried to complete it before beating it, so I never actually ended up beating it.

>Dragon Warrior

See above.

>Dragon Warrior 2/3

Lack of motivation, will return to later.

Games that I probably won't go back to complete:

>Fallout 1/2:

I couldn't really get into either game on any level.

>Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 (Unmodded)

Being forced into either ride admissions or park admissions made me sad. Back in the day, the much longer loading times compared to RCT1 were also offputting. Mods will fix it, probably.

>Super Metroid

For some reason I couldn't get into it.

>Zelda OoT

See above.

Probably a bunch of other shit I don't offhandedly remember.

Really has to do more with the AI being tunnel visioned and bad layout. Thief would let you go on rooftops occasionally and if there was no AI there you'd simply run into it later. It wasn't as prevalent as Dishonored but it still happened. You could also climb on shit but the AI can see shit that isn't directly infront of them.

>I mean more the oil painting look it's going for that they clearly didn't have the graphical power to do well in a big game.

I disagree. Here's an indie game that went for that aesthetic and made it playable with a lower polycount. Some other games did it to, but I am drawing a blank on which.

Well I wouldn't say that, the gameplay in MGS4 is amazing the problem is that they made the first two levels of the game the only good ones so the last 2/3rds of the game sucks ass. If they only made the rest of that game more like the first two levels it would have been my favorite MGS but goddamn it they really dropped the ball after south america.

Pokémon gold, heart gold and diamond

My copy of gold was stolen from my baggage before I had chance to finish it when I was coming home from a holiday in Greece, along with my copies of red and yellow. The thieves left the consoles alone though oddly.

It was probably losing all of my progress in 3 fucking games, but I when I eventually got diamond I just couldn't finish it. Don't think I even got halfway.

Never even started heart gold because I felt I needed to finish diamond first.

Currently playing omega ruby on 3ds hopefully i manage to stay interested enough to beat this one.

I maxed charisma and had five followers with me. At some point a glitch happened that locked me out of interacting with any of them. The Last Remnant. I totally forgot it was the game that "ranked" your performance and made the enemies insanely harder if you over ranked. I wasn't even grinding, by my standards at least, and my rank was good for the point I was at in the game. But it just made me feel that everything I did would only get me fucked later on because I wasn't maximizing my encounters or some shit. Which kind of pissed me off because the main quest has plenty of areas with hallways with enemies popping out of the ground and side quests where you have to kill certain enemies until you get the right one. Does the game want me to fight many enemies or not because then it becomes "grinding"? I didn't stick around to find out.

Not many that I can think of, both are pretty recent.

>Sekiro

Friend kept insisting that I play Dark Souls since he has this belief that everyone can find something to like in it. Never cared for how the games looked so I went with Sekiro solely because said friend had given up on it due to difficulty.

Couldn't get the timing down on parrying whatsoever because I'm fucking retarded, cheesed through every boss while hating myself for having to do so, until I got to Madame Butterfly and asked myself why the fuck I'm even playing if I both can't play for shit and am not having any fun.

Same friend has continued insisting that I specifically play Dark Souls because of how different it is from Sekiro. With all the differences described between the two, I know for a fact I would have enjoyed Sekiro much more.

>Nier Automata

Pirated it on a whim because everyone here jerks it off, picked hardest difficulty as a joke, got to the first boss, died, got sent to the beginning of the game, figured "oh fuck, this is gonna take a while" and never felt any interest in going back. Not so much a difficulty thing, more that the game just didn't grab me in the slightest.

There's probably a lot more games that I just forgot about playing, but there's very few where I remembered and outright said "no, fuck that, I'm not going back to that shit".

Super Metroid

Those are good games that I kind of enjoyed that comes to my mind. I just lost interest. I'm no big fan of J-RPGs. I think Wild Arms is the only J-RPG I've ever finished. With Super Metroid I thought it's a good game but in the end just kind of lost interest. Maybe I got stuck a bit or something I don't remember.

With each game I'm certain I played well over half way through the game before quitting. It also happened with Deus Ex and VtmB but later I started from beginning and beat both. With VtmB especially it was almost like a mistake considering how weak the last 1/4 of the game is.

Oh and Tomba! I also played that almost to the end but then kind of lost interest. Seem to happen a lot when I'm playing games on emulators.

That's why I don't typically play games based on recommendations, because I end up disliking them or not caring. Would have never bothered with A Tomato at all if not for how many people here shilled it and if someone hadn't posted a magnet right in the thread. I tend to watch gameplay for games before I pick them up myself, a minimum of about an hour or two and if I don't do that, I usually end up underwhelmed.

I'm going through Bayonetta right now, might give Nier another try if I like the gameplay enough but probably not.

As for Sekiro, I knew I wouldn't like it based on having seen enough of Dark Souls gameplay but was essentially nagged into playing.

I dunno, sight range upped from 5 to 15 is a far cry from "infinitely better".

Monster Hunter World

I put about 20 hours into the game then realized it was like every other Monster Hunter I've played then got bored.

Nier Automata

I just couldn't get used to how floaty the hack n slash combat is.

Valkyria Chronicles

I spent like a hour setting up my units in one level, forgot to protect the MC tank and lost the game within 30 seconds of the AI's turn. I was so asshurt about it I never picked up the game again.

Silent Hill

Threw out my old box TV to make room for a new HD TV. I bought a RCA to HDMI converter to hook up my PS1 but I forgot I was upscaling a 240p resolution to 1080p. The converter worked but the game looked like ass so I never got to finish it.

What did you hate about the graphics of Silent Hill, exactly? You could try an emulator as the models and textures will be much sharper and clearer but if you hate the general PS1 aesthetic that the game had, that's not gonna change much.

If you can't get over the graphics, you should at least give Silent Hill 2 or 3 a try. 2's standalone so easier to get into and depending on what you like in your horror might be more to your tastes. 3 ties into 1 in some ways but some people prefer its tone and story much more. Either way, both are fantastic (and you can modify the PC versions to fix the shortcomings compared to the PS2 originals).

Silent Hill 3 in particular looks better than most modern games. Anons post this gif every once in a while to demonstrate that. It's a fucking 2003 game.

Are you referring to LISA the Painful? If so, I got the same vibes from it, anon. I really wanted to get to the final fight(s) of the game too. If the game had even one or two vague hints of hope sprinkled throughout, I would have kept playing. Like if there were parts where Brad makes a speech/monologue about how no matter how many comrades or limbs he loses, he'll never stop searching for Lise. Or if some of the other characters maybe stepped in to reassure Brad at his lowest point or something. I don't know man, even a fucking bro-out moment where Brad and his allies find some food and beer and just bullshit around a campfire or something. Something inspirational, something hopeful, even a small shimmer of light in the dark, whatever. I get the humor was suppose to help lighten the mood a little, but I'd prefer a bit of serious hopefulness too.

Neverwinter Nights 2 Storm of Zehir

One aspect that i love about RPGs aare the companions, interacting with them, interactions between them, doing their quests and feeling like we're growing together as a team, something the main campaing manages to do very well i'll never forget Neeshka and KhelgarRIP Shandra and that Mask of the Betrayer does excellently as well fuck the bear though.

Storm of Zehir on the other hand misses completely since you're supposed to create the whole party and all the other companions as far as i know are simply mercenaries. For a while i tried to roleplay in my head the party dynamics but i'm not nearly autistic enough for that, the main quest wasn't that interesting either i got to the point of setting up shop in the castle you get in the main campaign so i just got bored, playing it felt more like a chore than a fun time so i eventually abandoned it, a shame because it has a lot of things i liked, the overland map is not without its flaws but i really like the concept, the tropical south-east-asian-esque setting was very interesting too, i want to see more fantasy games not set in the typical temperate european medieval setting.

I do want to give SoZ another try, but in a few years.

I'm pretty sure I haven't finished most of the games I've played in my life, especially nowadays, I often reach a point where I lose interest and I have fresher things that I want to play.

A few notable ones off the top of my head:

>Final Fantasy 8

Made it all the way to the final dungeon and then it introduced some party splitting mechanic and swapping back and forth between parties. I had some underleveled/underequipped characters in the bench and couldn't be assed to finish the game with them.

>Skyrim

I must have spent two hundred hours fucking around with mods and never made it much further than the Greybeards in the main story, I was constantly restarting the game with different mods.

>La-Mulana and La-Mulana 2

I tired with these ones, but I spent too much time stuck and not knowing how to progress, oftentimes I would figure something out about a puzzle and got overjoyed that I was finally making progress only to become stuck again immediately after. These games crushed my soul and I'm afraid to touch them again.

First of all, quit being me. Second, get yourself the La Mulana wiki and actually finish those games. When you get stuck, just start looking stuff up. I know it's against the core idea of the game, but I think both games are fun enough as platformers that you shouldn't feel bad about unsticking yourself if you really are stuck to the point of giving up. You don't have to spoil every puzzle for yourself. Whenever you think you have nowhere to go, pick a puzzle to focus on and look up what to do if you don't get it after fucking around with it until you're frustrated.

I beat chrono trigger after just losing interest in it after around 5 years.

The game was shorter than I thought, its around 20 hours long?

I think I grinded for levels n shit too much I was paranoid of the power of the final boss because of other JRPGS I played because Lavos, an ayy that was SUCCing the life out of the planet for millions of years turned out to be a little bitch compared to my party.

When it comes to overly grindy games with stupid hard final bosses The Last Remnant comes to mind, I grinded for a dozen or two levels to beat bosses before but by the time I got to the final boss I just got bored of the grind and gave up.

The game was seemingly designed by a autistic fucking baboon, whomever thought that leveling up and gaining abilities in that kind of convoluted way plus doing certain things in the game makes the final boss stronger needs to be fucking strangled.

Butcher gets a lot less grueling and a lot more interesting the longer it goes on. The first episode is a boring industrial hell zone where you have but a shotgun and a machine gun and enemies can slaughter you instantly. Later episodes take place in jungles and ruined cityscapes that have a lot more atmosphere, and your arsenal expands considerably. But the enemies stay roughly the same so the game just gets easier, and the final boss is just a big microchip held together by intestines that awkwardly chases you and has way too big a health bar.

There's certainly worse games I've played, but their new game where you play as a "the thing" ripoff looks a lot cooler.

As for Amid Evil, the environments are all generic stone hallways, the weapons are effective but not that satisfying, and making a new set of enemies for every episode means that the enemy design is fucking bad. Visually they're all ethereal clouds or floating rocks or blobs of biology, and none of them are polished mechanically enough to play off each other and provide a decent fight. And outside of the first episode the level design is pretty bland. Sometimes it looks nice like the arcane dimension but I'd be hard pressed to name a level or encounter that really stands out. If there's wacky secret levels or hidden easter eggs I didn't find any.

Do you get the picture? It's a bland game. it feels soulless. It squeezed all of the charm and character out of the retro FPS's that inspired it.

The one honestly fun moment that I remember having in Borderlands was when a voice line actually made me laugh. The only reason THAT happened is because I ran out of rockets in the middle of a fight, said "well crap" in my mind, and then my character happened to break character to say the same thing. It took both a silly coincidence AND the game becoming self aware enough to let a one dimensional character go outside his one dimension for one line in order for me to find it funny. That's pretty sad for how that game was pitched.

You didn't miss anything. The ending was utterly retarded. You open the 'vault' and out comes a gigantic tentacle monster who impales some govt lesbian, you kill it, you get like 4 random okay drops and that's it. I remember back in highschool my friend and I beating the final boss and being genuinely MAD about how stupid the ending was.

>Red Faction: Armageddon

This game was part of a THQ bundle I received with Company of Heroes and all 2 hrs of my time, I didn't enjoy a single second because of how much of a slog it was.

>Valkryia Chronicles

The movement system being some amalgam of RTS & Turn-Based was somewhat interesting initially but I couldn't handle anymore past the 2nd or 3rd mission.

>Enderal: Forgotten Stories

The game did improve on home-building with being able to actually place furniture as you wanted it, Fast Travel was reverted to Morrowind's system of using towers to travel to other discovered towers via a fee, and yet still the entire game just felt more like a Skyrim+ with the same slapstick combat & spongy enemies.

>7,62 Hard Life

This mod was my headlong crash into Squad-Turn-Based Combat that really scratched my autism for weapons and maintenance, before getting addicted to making bank via smuggling to fund my Drug-Lord Army of South America but ultimately I dropped it out of boredom from doing a lone-wolf CIAnigger stealth build with a suppressed .300BLK rifle removing Indians & Bandits in the Red Zone while having saucy thoughts on pounding Tanya via a mating press to renounce her lust for gommunism.

The nice thing about Armageddon was that they finally gave you a little repair-ball so that you could fix things that got broken by accident. That was about the only nice thing about it. More on the topic of the thread, I just remembered that I never finished Valkyrie Profile once I started reading about how the sending dudes up for Ragnarok mechanics worked. It was a pretty central part of the game, yeah, but actually confronting the idea of interacting with it was by itself enough to turn me off the game. That and the combat mechanics never really grabbed me like I thought they would after playing a bit of it.

I never finished VTMB because there was a game-breaking bug during the Giovanni's mansion mission that prevented some kind of critical cutscene from triggering, and the game was going very smoothly up to that point so I hadn't saved in a different file in a long time. Too bad, I was really enjoying playing my Toreador seductress. My favorite was the stylish armor upgrades.

Even with mods and time I can't seem to get past the second act. Its not like I hate the gameplay, I have over 500 hours in grim dawn, nearly 100 in path of exile, and even over 50 hours in fucking van helsing. Personally I think it's the art style but it's not like I'm a graphics whore. For some reason after act one I no longer really find the game engaging.

Earthbound. Got stuck in Damaal and kind of just stopped playing even though I had no intention to, I was enjoying the game and wanted to finish. I don't have the savefile anymore and I'm not starting again from the beginning, so I just saw the rest of the game through the avgn video. Pretty neat (and creepy) final boss.

Minish Cap. Just the final dungeon left, kind of procrastinated and never picked it up again.

Golden Sun The Lost Age. I loved and finished the first one, but for some reason gave up on the sequel halfway through the game, don't remember why.

Alright, I've got quit a lot that could go here, so I'll go over the highlights, in my opinion.

>Bad Mojo

Got bored after the nostalgia factor wore off.

>E.Y.E.

Was playing with the lads, but my computer suddenly told me to fuck off and so I haven't played it since.

>The Surge

Good game, but didn't have time to really get into it. Haven't had the will to pick it back up.

>Doom 3

God damn, why is it so dark and plays so fucking slow? I wanted Doom, not a shitty generic horror game

>Nier Automata

Was interested, but seemed like a huge game and wanted to play smaller things with what little free time I had.

>Bayonetta

Not a fan of DMC style combat

>Hollow Knight

Got lost in one of the caves and quit out of frustration

>Grim Dawn

Got addicted and binged all the way through to Ashes of Malmoth, but haven't gotten back around to beat Forgotten Gods because my character is max level already.

>S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky

HOLY SHIT, I love STALKER but the swamp at the start is bullshit and I keep losing my fucking save when I beat it. Fucking replaying the same two starting missions on loop is AIDS and I refuse to do it anymore.

>Half-life 2

Played it on and off again for a while, then I got to the part with the Striders and I couldn't get into it anymore. I'd probably finish it if I'd start over again, but I don't feel like sinking a week into this shit and I haven't been in an FPS mood for years, so meh.

>Red Alert 3

Only finished the Soviet campaign, but not the Japanese one. Can't even remember if I ever actually finished the Allied campaign. The game was decently entertaining, but not as gripping as its predecessors. The plot is so ridiculous and paper-thin that it makes RA2 look serious and dramatic. And the halfnaked eyecandy officers flirting with the player is fun for the first two minutes, but then it just gets embarassing. Gemma Atkinson, tho'… Lost all my saves when my HDD fried itself, and I couldn't be bothered to reinstall it afterwards. Oddly, I did finish Uprising, up to and including the Challenge mode

>Doom 3 not even gonna bother with nuDoom

Didn't actually play this one until years after it came out. This game relied relied waaaayy too much on hype and graphics that were good at the time. Enemy AI is kinda crappy even when compared to earlier games, and the game relies on scripted events and cheap shots to make it hard by throwing frustrating shit at you. I mean, F.E.A.R. was hard too, but that's because its enemies have well-written AI that can actually outsmart you if you're not careful. Doom 3 was just cleaning up retarded enemies and fetching items in between scripted suckerpunches - and about halfway through the game I just got tired of that.

>Quake 4

This one shouldn't be on my list, but it is. I actually like this game. It's a bog standard FPS at heart, but it gives everything I want from this kind of game. I got to the level right after you get your unsollicited upgrade, and then I guess I dropped for a while because I didn't have time IRL. But then I couldn't get back into it when I tried to pick up where I left off, so I guess I just sort of forgot about this game after that.

>Zaxxon

The original one, from like 1986. In all its CGA glory. Used to play it semi-frequently as a kid on my first PC. Never got past the first boss. Though I'm pretty sure I still have this game somewhere.

>Xmas Lemmings

I technically finished the first Lemmings because I kinda cheated (I looked up the password of the final level of Mayhem, and then I actually managed to beat that level), but I never actually completed Christmas Lemmings with or without cheating. Thanks to my buddy back in school back then (this was in the mid-90s) I actually had a trick for getting past the really tricky levels: he found out that you can copy the executable of Christmas Lemmings into the regular Lemmings folder, and it will actually run the game - except it will run the levels of regular Lemmings in a very different order, and it will use the passwords of Christmas Lemmings. But even then, I never managed to beat more than half of the levels.

>X-Wing (yes, the MS-DOS one)

I only got hold of this one after I already had its sequel TIE Fighter, which is just vastly superior in every way. The fact that every single game mechanic was a huge downgrade compared to TIE Fighter did not help when trying to get into it. I did get maybe halfway into the campaign, but I never actually finished it.

>Z

That one DOS RTS by Bitmap Brothers, though there's also a Win95 version and a later fanmade Windows remake. Absolutely brilliant game, and still one of my personal favourites. But… it really is tough as balls. Even with the remake, I never actually managed to get myself to finish it. And I have no excuse, because with the remake you can just turn the AI on and off at will

>Dungeon Keeper

Another one I didn't finish even though I should have. Again, brilliant game, and again, tough as balls. I even figured out a way to edit the save files, so again, I have no excuse.

>Dangan Ronpa

I was pretty into it for the first part, getting right to the part where that little trap cutie gets killed. But then that obnoxious rich kid and his "I'm so much better than every single one of you"-schtick really began to get on my nerves, so I dropped the game for a while. Then my HDD fried itself and I couldn't be bothered to download and set up a PSP emulator again.

>La Mulana (the original version)

Been been meaning to get back into this one, but I've been putting it off for over a year now. Awesome game, but so damn hard. Got about 80% in, with only two bosses left to go.

Do visual novels count if you finished only one route and left it at that? Because that's like almost every VN I've ever seriously played. The only VNs I ever managed to get a 100% completion on are Fate Stay/night and Maiden Rape Assault - Violent Semen Inferno.

>Tsukihime

Borderline case, as I finished most of its routes. Technically the first VN I've ever played, but I couldn't get into it initially. I only picked it up again after finishing Fate Stay/night (not a bad thing in retrospect; Fate Stay/night explains the setting much better than that Tsukihime does). I finished the primary routes, and there's a second set of routes that becomes available after that. But of those, I only finished Hisui's route before my HDD failed. Haven't been able to get back into it after that.

>Yume Miru Kusuri / A Drug That Makes You Dream

Only finished the Aeka route. Did get pretty far into the routes of Nekoko and that big tiddy rich girl whose name I forgot, but for some reason I never actually got to finish either. I probably meant to leave it for a while and get back to it later, but I'm pretty sure it's like a decade ago since I last played that game.

>Katawa Shoujo

Only finished Lily's route, after which I just felt deflated. The Katawa Shoujo writers were a bunch of disagreeable cunts, and it kinda shows in the writing. Chapter 1 (i.e. the demo) was quite good, but there's a real drop in quality after that. The writing is just not nearly as strong or lively in the later chapters. I especially didn't like how Kenji just ended up being a bland background character (though again, I can only speak for Lily's route). I was so disappointed by the whole thing that I couldn't even be bothered to try Hanako's route. All stuff I heard people say about the other routes being even worse didn't help either. And even with Chapter 1, I didn't like how some routes require you to do retarded things like running yourself into a heart attack

Reading the thread I remembered other games I haven't finished.

>No More Heroes 2

I loved the first one, the second one I tried to finish two times, the first time was just getting in almost immediately after beating NMH 1 and couldn't get past how it was not the same game, and the first spooky boss made me do a 360 and walk away, the second time went better but I got to the dragon motorcycle guy who literally started throwing dragons and couldn't beat him so I gave up, still I want to finish it.

>RE4

Had to return it, I borrowed the GC version from a friend, think I got as far as the military base on the island.

>Rayman Origins and Legends

Only ever beaten the first section of each

>Metroid Prime

Got disoriented and couldn't get to where the map was telling me, I think it was near the end but can't be sure, it was a long time ago

>Metroid Prime 2

I think I lost interest with this one, but played it much before I played prime so can't remember where I was exactly.

>TLoZ Skyward Sword

Can't get past the tutorial. always end up replaying other Zeldas, but when I finish TP again I'll come for this one.

>MM X 4

Got to Sigma but when the Sigma heads starting flying towards me couldn't land a single hit.

>Splatoon 2

Didn't play it for long but I never finished the story mode, only ever ended up playing salmon run and a little of turf wars.

>TLoZ A Link To the Past

I was breezing through it out of obligation to being able to say I played it and finished but that was not the correct mindset and just quit after realizing I wasn't enjoying it.

>TLoZ Link's Awakening

I only ever grab the sword and go on and about my life without returning to it. Also I want to play it on a protable and my 3DS is out of service at the time.

>Disaster Day of Crisis

Can't get past the ugly and the gun sections felt awkward

>Another Code: Two Memories

>Fantasy Life

Lost interest, thoutgh it was a chore, didn't helped I wanted to do all the menial quests like an autist

>OoT 3D

Finished the original at least so it shouldn't count.

>Rune Factory Frontier

I dropped Kingdom Hearts 3 at Scala ad Caelum because I was forcing myself to play through up to that point, and because I was spoiled on the fact that you can't explore it, and the final boss/ending are shit.

And if we're counting VNs, Umineko. The characters/dialogue are just way, way too autistic for even me.

Jesus Christ dude, this thread is supposed to be for maybe a handful of games that you didn't finish. You sound like some bipolar freak who just never finishes anything he starts. Also, how in the actual fuck can you not 'pass' a Zelda tutorial?

It's been a long time since I played it, was using a Gamecube controller so I handicapped myself maybe but for the life of me I couldn't evade the colored ones to even being able to hit the real one, still I think i didn't tried hard enough.

>Which spooky boss?

The every first one with the chainsaw in the hill house, it just put me off the vibe since the first one didn't have horror just over the top violence and ridiculous characters and motivations Will come back to it, don't think I used that skill enough myself.

>>16923510

>You sound like some bipolar freak who just never finishes anything he starts.

I do have a procrastination issues and severe brain fog, all I want to do most days is to lay still and rot away watching youtube which I credit to being a chronic fapper, I'm working towards fixing that.

> Also, how in the actual fuck can you not 'pass' a Zelda tutorial?

Not that I couldn't pass it, just that after going through it any desire of continuing playing vanishes and I'd rather came back to my comfort and known Zeldas, that, and the fact I spoiled myself the entire plot watching youtube Zelda theories not that the plot in Zelda is actually important I still think I have to experience it myself.

>>16922993

Of all the games I didn't finish I can tell I actually beat Chrono Trigger and Earthbound, and both occasions were due to their stories and style. Time travel shenanigans sold me on Chrono Trigger, and Earthbound is just charming, who wouldn't want to be a kid and get on an adventure batting away foes and with psychic powers to boot.

I can easily see that. Zelda games (OOT and after) have some of the slowest, sloggiest most boring tutorials out of any mainstream game. If it didn't have the Zelda name attached to it most people would just quit and move onto the next game. I think they do it because all the padding in OOT made it seem grander and bigger than it actually was. OOTs was tolerable at least. WW's island less so. I dropped the series after Twilight Princess even though I beat the game. It's tutorial/intro felt like hours. Too much fucking padding.

Twilight Princess has that issue, it's not so much that the first segment is a long tutorial, so much as the game is a slog until you get the ability to change forms at will. After that it becomes surprisingly fun.

Pathologic, the first one at least. Got as far as day 8 or 9 when the military arrived, but lost my computer and when replaying it 2 years later was back to square one and just couldn't get into the boring walking around a second time. Second game seems far more engaging though and am eager to try it.

I spent over 122 hours in Kingdom Come Deliverance and had to restart the game God knows how many times due to bugs or corrupted saves and when I finally got to the end of the game and I got a final fuck you in the form of the bug where Hans Capon would not end the game and just walked back to Rattay. I'm sure that bug has been fixed but I refuse to download the game again after all the bugs, save corruptions, and performance issues just to finish it because it still pisses me off to this day.

If you played it back when it first came out like I did, saving in different slots did absolutely nothing. Save corruption was rampant and entirely random until they supposedly fixed it which was a lie because I still got corrupted data after the patch they released that supposedly fixed it. I am honestly surprised the game ran at all to be honest. At launch and up until I deleted it in early 2019 it was a fucking shit show of a game.

Haven't finished these games for reasons beyond "Got distracted by other shit"

>SMT IV

I got too autismed out by the law/chaos bullshit when I just wanted to have a less autistic way of making the neutral route my first playthough.

>SMT Strange journey

Got lost in Sector C after nailing Orcus the second time with the Orcus Buster. And then someone stole my bag with nearly my entire 3DS/DS game collection save a few games This was about $800USD of games, this was seven years ago, I've only managed to recover one of my old games through sheer luck. The rest I've been rebuilding on my own

I unfortunately got spoiled of SMT:SJ's individual route ending slides and the fact that Jimenez essentially leads an anarchic uprising. The fact that Zelenin's route has her basically mindfuck the entire crew into apathy. And that Commander Gore gets ressurrected as a non-neutral boss-fight… Should I buy the remake and try it again, still?

>Zachtronics puzzle games

It's much fucking harder to create, than it is to rearrange. I'll get there, but when I have time and juice.

>Sleeping Dogs

I just wish that cloud saves worked with this game on steam.

>Bioshock infinite

Got bullshitted out at the final level, dropped it out of frustration only to get the ending spoiled for me. The more I heard about the burial at sea DLCs, the more I'm conviniced that they are worse than infinite's already shitty writing. Why the fuck did nobody stop Kevin Levine and tell him "making all these changes this late for a quantum physics ending is a bad idea"?

>Deus Ex: Human revolution

See above, replace "final level" with first level. Found out that the ending is a "press button recieve ending"-type scenario, lost all interest to even try it.

>Fancy Skulls

Too fucking bog-standard basic, especially since the pistol in practicality outperforms literally any weapon you pick up.

>Starbound

Frackin' universe is the only reason this game is worth playing, everything else is boring as shit.

>>16898370

>>16898379

>>16898382

Perfectly understandable. Borderlands is more of an MMO than it is a shooter game, for better or for worse. Honestly, it actually was rather bog-standard with a few neat gimmicks, and that was it. Really, they had no idea where they were going with that game and it shows.

I managed to finish the main game, but only the only DLC I finished was Dr. Ned.

Borderlands sequels, I have to say, they actually were worse than the original, even if the story was slightly more entertaining at points. or just straight-up depressing because anthony burch likes writing depressing shit in-between cringy memes.

>>16852062

>>16884793

That game was made by someone who has some serious fucking issues. The creator's dad is also named Brad- and when dad-brad died, the creator of Lisa just broke. SJWs and discord trannies went full-cult-indoctrinators on him.

That should give you some insight on that game.

>>16887000

I have no clue where you stopped, but if it's any consolation, the offscreen gunfire does not stop in the later levels. In fact, it gets worse.

I absolutely hated beard/soldier's levels, they were so huge beyond any need for them to be, and it was easier to count the enemies that DIDN'T Have guns or could shoot you offscreen. Dennaton assumed you loved using guns in hotline miami, when I was one who would rather chain executions and paint the floor red with melee weapons.

Honestly, it's only worth it for the music, that's it. The ending wasn't fucking worth it at all. The ending is literally "Nukes fall, everyone dies". Dead serious.

>Pokemon Colosseum

I could never get past the double trainer battles only format. Granted, I may pick it up again at some point, since I remember where I dropped off.

>Kingdom Come: Deliverance

Just ended up watching my brother play through it.

>Dragon Warrior Monsters

The breeding system + storage limits fucked with my need for completion.

>Skyrim

I got bored and also stuck in a cave because I'm a fucktard. Not a softlock sort of stuck, more of a "I have no idea how to get through it and also it's relevant to the plot" stuck.

>Trials of Mana remake

Played through the demo, enjoyed it. Will definitely be getting around to it later, likely whenever I end up getting a new computer.

>Paper Mario Master Quest Jr.

Prolly gonna end up pulling a reverse KC:D here and streaming this one with my brother. May need a new computer to have a not-shit framerate though.

>Dungeon Lords

Ended up getting stuck in the first town. This was basically a pseudo-softlock, since you can't get out of it without fulfilling a set of circumstances beyond my knowledge.

>Dragon Quest

Inner completionist fucked me over. I very well could have finished the game quickly with how far in I was, but there were a few little things I just never got around to doing.

There's plenty of others I can't offhandedly remember.

>Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning

Got it on PS3. The camera controls are absolutely fucking abysmal. I can't quite explain it, but it's like they're too floaty, strafe the PC instead of revolving around, and there's a lot of input delay – or, the acceleration curve is too weak on the low end, and too strong on the high end. I can't put my finger on it, but it ruined the game for me. Also the GUI/menus are absolute convoluted dogshit, too. Shame because the combat is fun and the lore seems cool.

>Dark Souls/DSII/DSIII/BB

I find Japanese nihilism so fucking lame. The metaphysics of these worlds is completely absurd and it prevents my suspension of disbelief. I have the same issue with the endgame of Dragon's Dogma, though it's less pronounced – the entire concept of the Souls' universe is Nietzschean and I can't take it seriously.

>The Outer Worlds

Completely bland, inoffensive and unexciting. There's nothing to drag me into the plot, and there hardly a single interesting character in the whole game.

The games a fucking slog. Just grey corridor after grey corridor until it becomes brown brown desert after brown desert. Most of them game you'll be using the shotgun/weakest smg in gaming/revolver. Valve couldn't balance the cool science weapons, unlike shooters that came before it, so none of them have any ammo.

Vast majority of my games I haven't finished, mostly because I've had zero time to play them in the previous 4 years. Only within the the last year have I been able to play anything that isn't just pick up and play or extremely easy to get into. I'm around 400 hours into Factorio right now, never made it past starting oil production. Everytime I learn something new I have to restart and basically do that every single time I hit a block in the game and end up learning something new. Now I'm in the process of building a mega base and finally understand how to actually play the game. Biggest issue was trying to do way too much way too early, basically going for a mega factory at the very beginning of the game. Terraria I've never made it past the Golem, the game takes entirely too goddamn long in the beginning to make any substantial progress worth it before because I had very little time to spend on it. Now I can sit there and figure things out and actually enjoy myself for once, plus the new update has turned it into basically somewhat of a new game for me with all the features I've wanted in it for years and years. Cities Skylines had a bit of a learning curve to me, same goddamn problem I had as with Factorio. Did way too much way too soon and didn't understand how the death waves worked, which resulted in cities that drained 40k plus from my coffers every week and put me into bankruptcy. The STALKER games I never finished, got close to finishing Pripyat and never did. I prefer the main game rather than the end game, the exploration and hunting was fun. I keep having issues trying to mod the fucking games too, every single mod I've tried using would crash the fucking games so I gave up on that. I'm trying to finish Sekiro now, bought it when it went on sale when it won GOTY. The first Genichiro fight is kicking my ass though, I get him to close to the end of his second health bar and he manages to kill me every single fucking time. The other bosses weren't much of an issue asides from Juzou. I fought Juzou right after I got the bell from that woman, I didn't realize you were supposed to fight him later on in the game rather than bumrushing it right away. Never finished any of the Dark Souls games unfortunately. Two seems to be the most fairly balanced and fun out of the others. One is too goddamn dark to be able to see a fucking thing and three substituted any real difficulty with just completely bullshit enemies and environments. Sekiro seems to be the first From Soft game that I've played that actually nailed skill difficulty rather than limiting the fuck out of you while overpowering the enemies

It sucks, I just don't have the time that I had as a kid to learn and play and ultimately finish games. Between full-time jobs, full-time school, etc I just don't have the time anymore. Or at least didn't I should say. Now that I've graduated and got to the point where I can work a second job for extra cash rather than barely survive I all of a sudden find myself being able to enjoy games again. My co-workers and friends play multiplayer games and I play single-player only. I hate the multiplayer games that are coming out now, fucking garbage in my opinion.

La Mulana 2. I got to the final boss, attempted it with no subweapons like I'd been doing for achievement's sake, died a couple times right as I was nearing the last phase and… just put it down and never picked it up again. Something about the game's final stages came together just sapped my interest. Looked up the ending weeks later out of curiosity and discovered the escape sequence was boring compared to the original.

Unsure if it counts, but I never feel like I've ever really finished a game of Hearts of Iron. I usually just get to whatever oddball goal I set for the country I play as, and lose interest shortly afterward.

Red Dead 2. I love cowboy stuff, but I could never get into it. It feels almost like a walking simulator, they made every aspect of the game realistic and fleshed except for the core gameplay, which is literally point and click or use slomo and wiggle your crosshair around.

I mean fuck, I just realized how boring r*'s pinpoint accuracy in the recent games is. Having spread actually makes you think, should i keep spraying and waste more ammo, or should I try to reposition, get closer etc. The way it is now, every shootout so far has boiled down to me just sniping mindless enemies with whatever I have, since everything is accurate.

Deus Ex Human Revolution. Simply put I was tired of the level design and how easy it is to ghost the game, and how the story seems to gloss over anything that could have been remotely interesting.

Glad I played up to that part where the heli is attacked though, the fact that that part is in the game makes me feel someone on the dev team actually cared but Squeenix or the rest of the team held them back. And apparently Malik's only a cameo in the next game and it has denuvo so why bother.

Mario Odyssey. Very few times in my life have I felt absolutely nothing when I watch a movie, or play a game. But Odyssey takes that award. I don't even remember what part I stopped at. I think it might've been the spooky castle area. I just remember suddenly waking up, and thinking over the fact that, I wasn't having much fun, but I didn't hate it either. It just existed, and I was playing it. Which actually scared me the more I thought about it. Looking back on it, I'm not sure if I'd even call it a bad game, I just can't bring myself to see it through to the end.
