Enemies/Bosses that stops people from playing a game.

Wyvern from vagrant story, the first boss where you need to understand stats and game mechanics in order to do any damage. Also most people likely underestimate it since you fight a wounded wyvern in the beginning of the game.

I've seen people get filtered by the most basic shit. One friend of mine, who will remain nameless, got casual filtered by the Kokiri Shield in OOT. She didn't bother talking to anybody or reading anything, she just skipped through all the dialogue and then wondered why the game wasn't telling her where to go.

I almost got filtered by Alma in NG1 on Xbox, but I went back the next day and beat her first try. Funny how that works.

>>16849955

I loved Vagrant Story back in the day, but I tried playing it again recently and the amount of fucking around in menus got old real quick. That and having to keep a certain number of weapons for fighting certain monsters and having to juggle weaknesses and having weapon stats change depending on what you're fighting with them…good god, I don't remember it being that bad. I wouldn't say no to a remake with some QOL changes though, like fast-weapon switching for favourited equipment, and equipment that doesn't level down twice as fast as it levels up.

I got casual filtered by OoT a lot in my first playthrough. I had never played a 3D Nintendo game before and mostly grew up on modern titles like Half-Life 2 and TES games.

Look at the game from the perspective of someone who not only plays lots of modern games, but also has played a little bit of the first TLoZ and doesn't really know anything else about the series. The concept of "talking to everyone" wouldn't really occur to someone like that, considering they probably consider Zelda to just be some hack and slash action game in an open world.

that's not a filter moment. the camera in that cathedral is genuinely fucking awful and makes the boss fight way harder than it needs to be. look at the next time you fight her - she's still tough but the camera isn't as bad due to being in an open field.

The entire game is a casual filter, from the janky camera and movement system, the random demons who pop up in each level, the difficulty spikes after each level, the crazy difficult bosses, the fact that you have to start a level from the beginning when you die (I think), all makes the game boil down to down right impossible for the average gamer, especially moreso without using an emulator to save states.

Most pathetic case of casual filtering I've ever seen, was seeing a friend who wasn't used to point-and-click adventure games trying to play Full Throttle.

He was literally unable to get past the game's first screen. He couldn't figure out on his own that he should punch the dumpster lid to free Ben, and even after I explained him what to do, he couldn't figure out how to do it.

I went to his house and did it for him. Then kept watching as he struggled to get past the second screen.

Majora's Mask's time limit seems to have been a pretty big one. I tried playing the game as a kid and it intimidated me so much that I couldn't make any progress.

Wind Waker's first dungeon was the same, I couldn't make heads or tails of the right way to go and dropped the game for a couple years. Even after replaying it now and finding it very easy, I think it's the worst first dungeon of the franchise. First dungeons shouldn't focus on forced stealth and identical looking rooms that try to lead you in circles.

Time limit nonsense is kind of a breaking factor for a lot of things. It's unintuitive to think about the fact time limits have to be lenient but at the same time, it makes it seem like it's going to be a pain in the ass to actually complete any sort of task.

Majora's mask is a really big example of this, as the game's really lenient with giving you time to finish, but the time limit keeps tons of people off of it, as it somewhat presents that you're probably going to have to replay the three hour period an obscene amount of time.

Ruiner does that roar suddenly with an insanely fast startup animation and its roar locks me the fuck in place. It can either dive left, right, or just outright fucking track you and land directly on top of you, carting you right then and there on the spot, WHERE YOU CANNOT MOVE FROM because of the roar. Lets not even forget about the extra fuck you spikes it launches right after it lands to make sure you don't get away.

If it wasn't for that fucking roar that move would be easy enough to deal with, too bad I don't have the reflexes of a speedrunner.

I had zero desire to play that game because I just generally dislike the idea of being timed like that in an exploration-based game. It really doesn't matter how generous the limit is. Barioth was a bitch back in 3U and GU, I guess it was because I liked to use lance back in 3U and Adept SA made everything in GU a joke.

The Barioth in MHWI has so much fucking health, damage and speed compared to other monsters similar to its difficulty rank that its fucking ridiculous. I nearly failed my first hunt with it (carted twice, nearly ran out of potions, was using HH) but someone joined in my quest around 25 minutes in to help me for some reason. The second boss from the The Wonderful 101:

>you have to stop the boss from destroying the tower you're standing on while fighting the him

>the game doesn't tell you that you can heal the tower

>at this point in the game your damage output is quite low, so you'll be slowly whittling away at the boss' multiple health bars

>can't block his attacks at the start of the fight because you won't have enough followers to strengthen your unite guts

>fight becomes a clusterfuck when the boss spawns two enemies then climbs on top of the tower, partially obstructing your view

Not really a casual filter since Grace and Glory aren't that hard as long as you're not brain dead and by the time you first encounter Gracious and Glorious you should have unlocked enough weapons and upgrades to make them more manageable.

To add to that, I'll also include Barroth in Vanilla Tri:

>feel pretty confident as you're taking out some big monsters

>"Okay little shit, time to rank up, hunt a Barroth."

<he is the first monster to have a roar that will cause your hunter to stop and plug their ears

<he is the first monster who's head is not a weak point and, in fact, is armored as shit and will cause your green-sharpness-at-max weapons to bounce

<he has a weakness to fire but a resistance to water

<but he covers himself in mud which has resistance to fire and a weakness to water

<he can fling mud on you to lock yo out of item usage and make your movement super shitty

<he has the legendary triple dash; three consecutive charges that are so fast and so accurate, if the first one hits you, just put the fucking control down, you're dead since it pinpoints the area between you becoming vulnerable and the I-frames from when you're about to roll/block and hits you before you can do anything, which makes you stunned and easy to kill on the third charge (if the second charge didn't kill you

Anyone who fought Barroth in any game other than Vanilla Tri on Wii doesn't know how fucking FAST he was. Jade Barroth in 3U brought SOME of that hell back since he was larger and cane the "Horseshoe" charge.

Most of the people who hated the time limit in MM also quickly dropped/abandoned Pikmin 1, but list Pikmin 2 as one of their favorite games. This infuriates me because Pikmin 2's LACK of a time limit ruined the structure of pikmin's goal of achieving as much as possible in a single day and needing to risk your pikmin in combat. This was especially true in the Cave systems where time froze. It's cost effective to just use your captain and a single pikmin to go out, explore, trigger the traps, and then just do cleanup with the group. Thankfully, Pikmin 3 fixed that and the limit AKA the time you have to just dick around is 100% dependent on the needed collectibles you pick up. Still, I loved the idea of playing pikmin 1 once, failing and seeing how far I got in the 30 day time limit, then doing it again and beating it in 21 days because I had a better grasp of what to do.

>She didn't bother talking to anybody or reading anything, she just skipped through all the dialogue and then wondered why the game wasn't telling her where to go.

I don't really blame her honestly. OoT is really long winded for such a basic story. I think you see that cut scene of the gods that takes 15 minutes at least 3 or 4 times. They do it on purpose it makes the game seem more grand and epic than it really is. I got fucked by this in NWN, because for most of the game you can just run to the 4 corners of the chapter. However, in the 3rd chapter one of the corners doesn't have the thing you need unless you talk to some woman in a bar.

The first fight against Kuze in Yakuza 0 - it is also the hardest, since you can potentially be way too overpowered in any of the later fights

The first fight against Delver in The Surge 2 - it is basically a parry tutorial, but once you master it the game becomes a joke

The first Red Drake in Dragon's Dogma - this kinda doesn't count since you can just overlevel him or just skip him entirely, but most new players will run into him on accident and get thoroughly BTFO because of the part of the map that he hangs around in

Iudex Gundyr in DS3 - this is the ultimate noob wall because he's very early in the game, and if you don't find the fight against him a breeze then you haven't gotten the combat rhythm of DS3 at all and will likely throw the controller against the rest of the bosses, the same could also be said about the katana guy who's pretty much a practice midboss tier enemy

I kinda get both sides of the BDSM thing, though, they're essentially the same. Society's waaaaay too sexually repressed and restrained, and there are issues with sexuality that can't be aired, it's only natural that it mutates into malice-based infliction and chasing after extreme sensation, if people get caught in a tiny social area, they tend to not be able to test themselves against the greater whole of society and calm down, and get stuck in ruts while their minds degenerate and mutate.

It's the circles they're trapped in that does this after they've been gatewayed into these circles. It's like a cult. Does the same type of thing, too.

It doesn't mean people should shack up in sex clubs and fuck kids, it means that people need to have a more less flustered mindset about it. It's a topic barrier between two people when births are declining already. The west has a huge amount of prudes and puritans.

This doesn't mean the other extreme is okay, but we're in one extreme that is intensely focused on cock-blocking people. The whole white knight mentality is creating failed excuses of men who are weak mentally and act as weasels when it comes to sex.

Women are in the other extreme, the slutty end, and they need to be more pure and respectful towards men.

This is a sensitive topic with loads of demographics, but the idea is to reduce the two extremes, prude and slut, to a reasonable center, so as not to drive people away from sex and procreation due to the risks of the social environment.

No, you just have trouble with reading. My question was a compound sentence. There are effectively 2 questions.

1.What do you mean by "society is sexually repressed and restrained"?

2. Since when has society been "sexually repressed".

You only kinda answered one of these question. I say kinda because your answer is vague and all over the place. You start off your post stating what it "doesn't mean" showing you have serious trouble expressing comprehensive thought. What do you mean by "a more less flustered mindset about it." The statement itself is retarded and yet you get pissy with me for not accepting your answer? What are the prude and puritans doing that make people more sexually repressed and restrained? What the fuck does the "whole white knight mentality" has to do with society being sexually repressed? Are you saying the "white knight mentality" means not having sex or having low amounts of sex? What the fuck does women being slutty have to with "society being sexually repressed"? Are you saying that slut are the result of a sexually repressive society? If women are sluts, then wouldn't that mean they are anything but sexually repressed/restrained?

Your post is all over the place, m8. I'm going to save you a bit of time and cut straight to the chase. I wanted to know if by "sexually restrained", you meant people were having less sex. If that's the case, you're wrong. Being chaste doesn't mean having less sex or lower quality sex for that matter. Married couples actually have more and better sex. The sexually liberated have more partners and less happiness. The greater the number, the lower the rated happiness.

I asked "when" because you most certainly can't be talking about current year+. The most "puritan" of individuals are complete degenerates. Sexual liberation is all over the place and the world has become worse because of it.

As for when, I don't fucking know.

Second, women becoming sluts has led to them betraying men often, so it resulted in lower birthrates. Why? Only the shitty men who are willing to take advantage of these women. That bubble pops and the sluts age and stop dealing with men, become feminists from what they see is poor treatment despite their issues cause the problems, and create a culture that demonizes men for everything, creating a sexual divide.

It's cultural backlash. Consequences.

The puritan nature of the modern age DID NOT COME FROM those concerned with morality. It came from salty bitches getting everything in college, realizing they were dealing with shitty people and assume the world is who they banged. And nice girls get buried under all that and become impossible to see.

Society has BECOME sexually repressed because the sluts created a puritan movement.

Sounds silly? It fucking is.

I'd also like to add that sexual liberation started gaining fruition (for its own benefit) in the mid 1960's, meaning that society in general has divorced their feelings of sex being exclusive to monogamous relationships ever since the Boomers were in their teens.

Sexual purity is actually a pretty recent and shortlived concept in history, outside of religious nobility. For most of history lower/middle class people have been fucking like animals, and it was only highly developed societies that abstained and preserved sex for marriage or loving relationships.

It's why I always cringe when I hear people talking down sexual prudence/discretion as if it was some "outdated boomer concept," when it was boomers who brought it back into modern society for later generations to embrace even further.

Nothing's worse than a slut who forces men into purity. Reason I ditched my first girlfriend.

Gave her virginity to some Chad she met at a club, then insisted that she was pure and that she wouldn't do that again and acted serious when she met me. Something about that really set off some "Chump" alarms in the back of my brain and pissed me off.

Saging because this is getting seriously off topic.

I'll add to this. I encountered a QUEER women who divorced her hubbie because "god" told her to her do it since her side of the family was full of flaming homosexuals. Then she cried tears and that won the pozzed crowd that was around me. Sorry lady, you committed an logical fallacy and are forever on my shitlist.

>For most of history lower/middle class people have been fucking like animals, and it was only highly developed societies that abstained and preserved sex for marriage or loving relationships.

So… for NONE of history. Marriage–specifically monogamy–is literally the foundation of human society itself. Where fermentation may have caused us to stop being nomads, it was marriage that caused us to develop technology and build cities, the written word, and societies.

>Something about that really set off some "Chump" alarms in the back of my brain and pissed me off.

Yeah, that's… what I'm talking about. The foundation of male psychology demands virginity and sexual exclusivity from women because the female brain loses its ability to pair bond after it loses its virginity. This is the foundation of human civilization. If men can't trust their women, there won't be families, and therefore no new generations raised in healthy environments.

The only game that I actually got filtered out of was Sekiro.

The fucking gravity defying Ogre was a fucking retarded fight and absolutely bullshit on every level.

I couldn't even find the fire thing because the previous souls/bourne games conditioned me to avoid fire and dying in sekiro actually punishes you with more than just death so fuck looking for an item thats literally in the middle of a small flaming pile. How was I supposed to know it was there in the first place? There was no slight hint or indication that anything important would be there at all, thats just shitty game design.

For some reason I can easily get used to games where you're supposed to parry but I could never get used to Sekiro, that game just wasnt even fun. I seen people fight againt the later bosses and they would actually spam the parry button, if thats endgame gameplay then I'd rather waste my time playing something else rather than sekiro.

FF7's possibly only filter boss, it violently punishes players who did little grinding and stack magic lots of magic materia, as noobs tended to do in FF7. The icing on the cake is being in an area where nearest savepoint is past point of no return to leave the dungeon.

>Depot A

While the entire fucking game of Underrail is probably a filter, where your build is put to the test is Junkyard Depot A. Most players get utterly destroyed on the very first screen filled with regular mutants and dogs. If they struggle through that, acid mutants and acid dogs await them, and are much much worse. While grinding is a somewhat viable option later, it isn't until after Junkyard is finished that the game truly becomes open. The fast travel train and explosives to clear rocks are gated behind finishing this quest.

I came here to post this, it was bullshit in the Alpha version where if you weren't a straight up tincan/psi build you had to cheese your way out of fights.

You can beat it with 0 skill points invested now, thanks to Traps and grenades.

To be fair the entire game is a casual filter because the average "gamer" has an iq of 11 and won't think to read the manual (which is also fucking great) and get confused as soon as they see the title screen. I miss when manuals were a thing, especially when they were written and designed well and weren't just a book with the controls in them.

Full Throttle had a couple of really fiddly bits. The dumpster part is just retarded on that anon's friend's part, but there's at least one but maybe two or three screens I remember being completely fucking infuriating - one in particular demands that you watch some gauges on a wall, then kick one extremely pixel-specific section of that wall at just the right second. It fucking sucked.

Jak 2's dock level

>Constantly respawning guards

>Even when you kill the guards they respawn anyway

>Limited ammo pickups

>There are no health pickups and you can only take 4 shots before you die

>Running through/roll jumping through the guards will get you killed anyway

The only way to beat this level was to hoverboard through it. Either way you'll end up dying enough times to give up, get lucky running and gunning or using the hoverboard.

When I played Bloodborne, I didn't know how to equip my weapon, so I beat up the first werewolf and people with my fists. I thought the game was supposed to be hard and didn't even question it.

>F-Zero GX

Casuals think its too fast.

>Dark Souls (any)

Casuals say its too hard. To be fair, I gave up Souls 1 myself because its a broken mess with terrible hit detection.

>Monster Hunter (any)

In the MH thread, people even said Monster Hunter World is too hard, and that game basically fondles your balls while playing. It's that much downgraded from PSP difficulty.

>Teppen

Because casuals don't understand how to play it.

>Classic Resident Evil

Casuals think the games are bad because of the tank controls, but they are simply used to first person junk.

Ruiner is a bitch. Ruiner is the only non-annoying Elder Dragon and the easiest by far, even Tempered. Unless you have a shit weapon.

If you complain about Ruiner, you never played pre-Iceborne Arch Nergigante.

"Land directly on top of you carting you right there." Nothing carts me in one hit and I focused on Crit and Sharpness, so what the hell are you doing?! Build a better set then.

You know you can upgrade AND augment your armor? Also, do you have Vitality maxed? Because literally everyone should have that.

In Freedom Unite, I've played this game for 400 hours, still not done with it, and I can't defeat Ashen Shao Lang and my sword is too blunt for high rank Garuga, and I have no clue where the hell I get better weapons. The true nightmare in this game is the lack of communication. It's not even hard to defeat Shao Lang, but it purely depends on your gear, and that makes it frustrating. And the game always wants you to buy that ONE best weapon at that point, which you have to find first.

Also:

>Monster Hunter Tri

Lagiacrus because noobs don't know how to swim, so they say the mechanic sucks.

>Monster Hunter World

Zorah Magdaros because noobs don't have a clue where to go or what to do.

So, I've got a group of friends in real life, and one of them in particular always seems to get stuck on stupid shit in soulslike games.

In Bloodborne, it took him over 100 attempts to kill Martyr Logarius. In sekiro, it was the moth. He always goes in detail to describe the bullshit strategies he makes up to solve the most mundane of problems, and it always cracks me up. He muscles through and finishes all these games, but damn it's fun to see him fail.

Just beat MGRR and was curious to see if this game had any filters that people trip over. I've heard about Blade Wolf too; I think it's because it's the first encounter that seems to necessitate the use of parries/blocking. I beat Blade Wolf on the first go, but I went into the game knowing about the importance of parrying which may not have been the case for everyone. Monsoon felt like a difficulty spike and took me about 35 mins to beat, but the only boss I felt somewhat stuck on was Armstrong's 3rd phase. It was frustrating since what I struggled with had more to do with confusion than an inability to execute. The counter-action to his heal should've been straight-forward, but hitting his back seemed to work at random. His charging attack that triggered QTEs seemed unblockable so maybe I should've tried attacking or simply dodging it. Other than that I took a while to become consistent at cutting the boulders Armstrong throws.

On a side note, I really should've played on hard difficulty. I've been playing games on normal because I've been leaving a lot of games unfinished lately, but I would've been motivated for this one I think.

I've improved since then.

I killed more R.Nergys and 2 tempered nergys from the time of making that post.

I use a True Crit Elm bow build so I have half the defense of any melee users, I also maximize damage output in the build so I have no room for vitality.

I upgraded and augmented that weapon and armorset to the max but I can still easily get atomized by certain tempered monster attacks, much like a SINGLE savage deviljho bite. So I always have to try my best when it comes to distancing myself from monsters.

But besides that whenever I fight tempered nergy everyone (the randoms I find) is scared shitless of him so we always practically speed run the guy and put in as much status debilitations and trips on it as possible so it has less opportunities to hit us, it makes the fight all the more easier and less stressful.

And yeah I still never fought arch tempered Nergy.

In MGR I was only filtered by sam because I didn't know how to do the slash/hop/dodge attack and couldn't fight back without it. After beating sam, senator armstrong became a joke, sam was twice or maybe 3 times harder than the actual final boss for me.
