Yes its time squeeze kobolds, kill sexy ogres for their hotpants, drink dragonmilk, starve to death in the overworld, get your new pet chain killed in the same dungeon over and over, come back to the the game a year later and forget what you were doing, and raise littleboys in a ranch.

A jap roguelike with an overworld, no permadeath, and a bunch of sandbox elements. Its tough to nail down. Can be played a ton of different ways like being a farmer who grows crops and magical items, a piano player who gets stoned to death, a valiant warrior who breaths fire, a magical caster who can nuke the entire map and then explode from overcasting, or just be charismatic as fuck and get lots of pets. It can be a bit challenging at first but the game is much nicer to new players then it used to be.

Elona custom was a mod to the mod of plus.
>"Elona+ Custom (aka E+C) is an addon mod to Elona+.
It aims to provide more and better translation to the game, while also introducing a few features meant to serve as quality of life options."
Its dead in the water right now due to the new maintainer getting busy with real life but it looks like hes trying to whip something up to make it easier to change to new versions.
Then there is Custom G which is like an addon to the addon's addon. And it adds some more QoL shit too as well as undoing some changes. It can only be used with the same version of custom if you decide to use it on an older build.

Another offshoot of Elona made by some nerd. I haven't played a ton. Much more difficult due to being based on older Elona difficulty. Their are perks to become a better whore though so money is never far away as long as you have loose morals. It only includes the first act but it can be something different if you want more Elona. It has a lot of new features like factions, The Knights of the LittleGirls, and a qt rival you can fuck. Worth checking out.

I haven't seen anything, I'm still pissed. You can craft clothing still and it sells in your shop, also things like waste art sell for decent cash. The only way of making equipment I know of is using the pot of fusion.

Last time I played I tried out the Abnormal difficulty and while it's an interesting experience having enemies use gague attacks and keeping backup equipment in case you die and drop everything, the very strict inventory limit (21 items including all equipment, tools, collectibles like small medals) really stops you from using 90% of the game's features. Good luck carrying lockpicks or cooking tools or stealing many items when you only have 8 slots free after your equipment. Luckily there's an NPC far to the southeast who can change your difficulty setting so I think I'll stick with abnormal until Zeome and then continue normally
Oh and there's a 30 karma penalty for killing any dog type enemy except element hounds (including dogs and hounds which are hostile and your pets will shoot on sight) so "mine" dungeons are full of dogs and will set your karma to -100, which I have done once and made sure never to let happen again.

Frankly, that's one of my favorite things about this game: its blithe and happy ignorance of reality in the face of the sort of "common sense" realism that even fantasy roguelikes tend to have. Your average roguelike wouldn't let you put a battle lightning tank on a ranch and collect its eggs and sweep up its shit, because of course tanks can't have babies even in fantasy land. Elona throws that "of course" out the window and is happy to let you do it and just reduce the breed power a bit for balance I guess. I appreciate that kind of thinking, and also that it (feels like) just a natural consequence of the game's style and not some forced statement the dev is trying to make. It would be a little tiresome if everyone was doing it, but it's a nice little thing that makes the game feel unique. Being able to whore yourself to drunk wolf NPCs has nothing to do with it.

There are several important details to note.
First thing first, most of those stats came from feat and equipment, omake has no concept of caps. so you can push that enchant feat value as high as you want.

I'd use Mani's Material Mining trick, basically abusing Mani's passive skill and a Mine Dog, to farm infinite materials for use in crafting and selling it.

Those plat came from void or dungeon diving, I got around 800~1k plat per 5 level on the void, and around 2k on certain dungeon type, pic related.

I'll think around level 50~90, since I start over and start looking for info on japanese blogs with google translate where I'd find a few exploits like:
-MMM (mani's material mining)
-Mutant god: Create a starting character with the race God, then change to mutant by wishing "race change" to get multiple hands.
in case anyone interested, races in oomsest have a built in pv/dv bonus based on the level and the first race you choose if you don't wear any armor or shield (i.e completely naked)
-crafting potions of potential/descent with alchemy
-bubble exploit: get weapons with stamina absorb and nether damage, a few of sand bagged bubbles, a shelter, then hold swarm button down.

That's from resetting merchants with a shellter and farming for traveling merchants since they're selling goods like scrolls of growth, name, gain attribute, contingency(though it's better to use pets with cheer special action for contingency), rods of domination/wish and ancient/resurection books.
I'll need those wish rods for miromi and scrolls of name for my living weapons.

So who here has played elona shooter? While it is a fun base defense game with a lot of different options for upgrades, weapons and skills, ect. the game is unbalanced. By the time you reach day 10, you'll be barely scraping by, and it just becomes harder from then on out. My personal best is 12 days.

mid-late-game enemies have very high resistance to all elements except the magic element. If you specialize in certain elements you can cast debuffs to get rid of resistances, but crystal spear works without having to use a debuff on every enemy

Try some board quests. My favorite thing to do early game is garden quests at the farm town. You will fail that at first but gardening is a very useful skill. Once you got a few plat buy the skill of you dont have it and bang out all of these quests you can. Its a good source of money.
I normally buy a farm first for my own property.

Here's my stats before I nuke it and change to custom. I can actually kill stuff when I hit them and get good rolls, but 90% of the time it's just a shit ton of missing then 1 damage attacks. I managed to two shot a bunch of mobs in a row then almost died to a putit from missing.

One thing you can do to try and die less is level non-combat skills for a while to increase your overall level. Having a higher level gives you more HP and MP and the scale is more or less linear, so you'd be a lot more durable at level 4 than level 1 and twice as durable as that at level 8.
Also hermit crabs are quite tanky. Like a real roguelike, you have to just know which enemies pose a threat and why. Remember that you always have the option to run or better yet teleport away

I forgot to post then when making thread. You need to use the pot of fusion for it but if you got the skillz making one of these can help boost you.
Another way is to gene engineer cooking on a pet and if you fall asleep around the right time they will cook for you in the morning also raising your potentials. Cooking in general is also a good way to just raise stats.

I always suggest choosing Dimensional Move as a starting feat, it gives you a short teleport action that should be enough to get out of any bandit encounters at the beginning. Once you're like level 15-20 or so I'd say, though, you can definitely take on those random encounters and get a pretty good amount of dat brozouf dosh from selling the cargo and junk items they drop. Also while I'm giving out advice get the exorcist feat at the start too to avoid random curses.

Godly is just a quality modifier. Mica helm barely has any stats. DV/PV is clear as day there.
You could identify it further to find any other attributes. Godly usually has a bunch, often both positive and negative.
It should slowly auto-identify as you carry it around (Eventually), and train Sense Quality for doing so. Otherwise you can pay for it to be identified in town; that's not TOO crazy expensive for elonaplus, but kind of a waste.
Mica is not edible, raw is. Even if you wanted to eat it as raw, Godly quality means material change is costly/wasteful, since only material kits work there.

Well, since the number of items they stock doesn't get any larger, if the average quality of their items goes up then it's pretty easy to say that they're going to sell fewer low quality items. You don't have to invest in every store on the continent, or maybe you can keep low-level shopkeepers in your home or something. You might need to invest a little in a general (not goods) store before they start carrying pots of fusion. They're just one of those things that's not easy to find sometimes if the RNG isn't cooperating with you.

I really wouldn't worry too much about using ranching and food for CHA. It'll come naturally as you play anyway, from investing and whatnot.
If you want to optimize food intake and skill gain then you should move to farming herbs as soon as possible.
Take farming jobs (Mostly in Yowyn, southwest of Palmia, just over the bridge), avoid dangerous creatures (Like crabs for sure will be dangerous early on without preparation), get seeds and bronze coins for later.
If playing elonaplus, save any herbs besides curaria and stomafilia for later, to make into herb-in-food (Preferably herb(herb)). But go ahead and eat those two all you want.

Putit farm was the best idea I've ever had, putit skin goes from 1k to 5k depending on how long you brush your putits for, plus eggs and milk all around. Also, grinding clothes to level tailoring is pretty good since they sell by a lot.
On the other hand not paying taxes wasn't that much of a good idea. I figured it'd be fine to not pay taxes since I also wanted to get into the thieves guild, I didn't expect to forget about it, go 6 months without taxes, go into a city, "why are the guards attacking me?", "oh yeah, taxes lol", kill a guard, and then get fucked since now I have -90 karma. Dungeon crawler and burying adventurers seems to be the best way to get karma back because fuck grinding quests, that "get 30s plants and I'll give you two fiddy" can go fuck himself along with his farm where nothing over 1s grows.

The wiki says that the cat can lick things that drop from it's killing blows, adding another mod and the "blessed by Ehekatl" text, but in the process of cleaning the puppy cave a dozen times to bring her up to snuff with my party (and looting every single item just for the purpose of checking the ability out), I had never seen that text on an item. The charisma-boosted <Claymore> dropped within 5 minutes of getting the second favor bonus. Since I hadn't seen the "blessed by Ehekatl" text yet, I just figured it was the second favor bonus that actually enabled it. It's either:
>A) Cat killed the creature and triggered the ability for the first time in over 10 hours, either due to bad luck or due to low chance of occuring
>B) Ehekatl's feat is actually what did that
>C) Cat killed the creature and triggered the ability, and I never saw it happen before because Ehekatl's feat is required to raise the number of enchantments an item can have for the cat's lick to be effective
Anyway, it's probably A, and I'm just unlucky. But I am suspicious.

In elonaplus, whether or not tax box is worth the medals is questionable.
Early on you should be close enough to Palmia for a while to pay it off as you go. Then once you have enough money you can just pre-pay your taxes with certificates by the millions, so as to go years without touching it. Certs cost a small bit more, but that's jack squat for the convenience.

OH yeah I forgot about that new AI he has.
I just started to grind a few levels to beat him. Before that I would take a shit load of prep work, potions, scrolls, Molotovs, only for me to have to scroll of return out before he killed me. He would always kill my pets too. I must have tried it like 4-5 times. Then randomly one day I said fuck it and just ported down there, no prep work at all and my pets nuked him in 6 turns.
Felt nice. Now South Tyris is sorting me out, I got into the main story dungeon but I might have to get a bit stronger first.

The grind loops are engaging, simple, and don't pretend to be anything more.
The content is fairly vast, the luck is incredibly well balanced, and there's endless sensible, desirable goals. With lots of choice in the matter, even if it doesn't really matter all that much.
It's free from invasive politics you'd find most elsewhere; there is no hidden idealism, no pushing of narratives.
The audiovisuals are simple, easy to grasp immediately AND easy to edit.
Then there's a bunch of emergent shit like indeed marrying spaceships or breeding loli and tanks or being a slut for money; things inherent to the gameplay that you could build stories out of.
It's designed from the ground up to be a game you could play for hundreds or thousands of hours while still engaging within it and working out the progression. With no hidden motives, no disguises. Just a pure fucking game (Literal fucking optional).

Is there any benefit to leveling gardening past 60? From what I've gathered it seems you don't really need more than 41~ or so to maximize regrow chances, and no more than 60 to get the best chance for herb seed rewards. So what does it even provide past that point, besides learning exp?

It's an etherwind corruption. Pretty much just that you have a 12.5% chance of adding an attack when you hit with a ranged or melee physical attack. Apparently it can also trigger 2% of the time you interact with NPCs. So I guess you'll randomly smack questgivers you talk to when you have it? Damage depends on character level, up to level 1000. There's a second disease stage that makes the tentacles thicker and just increases the damage.

Damn, wish there was a mod that properly replaced it. It's clearly a built in aspect of Elona. I think it's just royally gay that you can only use a spell a limited amount of times before its lost forever. I dunno, make it something like actual vancian magic where it's refreshed at the end of the day?
It just means I never go a Wizard because I'm the type to never use any potions.

I don't like the system, either, but it's not quite as bad as "lost forever." Your skill with the spell doesn't go away when you're out of stock. You just can't cast it until you get another book for it, and books can be bought from vendors or special ordered from the Mage's Guild. There are a small number of spells that don't have books, but I think that's only abusable meme spells like Wizard's Harvest. I guess it's a balancing thing for wizards so that they have a money sink and another thing to manage. It's basically weapon durability for mages, which is why I don't like it. I also think it's a holdover from whichever older games Elona descended from (Angband? ADOM? I dunno).

I'm pretty sure it's specifically based on ADOM, although NetHack has something kinda similar. (I think there's an old trick in NetHack where you cast a spell you've forgotten to confuse yourself, which makes a detect treasure scroll instead show you the location of a magic portal, or something like that.) Never heard of any Angband variant where you need to relearn spells.
Anyway, personally I just keep huge stacks of books (2 charges each, since I've never been able to recharge past that) for all the spells I use regularly in 4-D Pocket (including books for 4-D Pocket itself), and re-up when I start to run low. And every time there's a shop that sells rods I buy the entire stock with pocket change and drain all the charges. Presto, unlimited spellcasting, minus negligible expenses and having to mess with books/charges.
You can also tag spells so they appear in the upper left with their spell stocks, so you don't accidentally run out.
