With all the talk and huge success Mario Maker and the sequel got. Why did Rayman Designer fail? And why do nobody talk about it? It is basically Rayman 1 maker (a game that sold really well) It deserves more attention given the fact that it predates Mario Maker 1 by 18 years

Mario Maker can get away with the obvious issues created by handing nondevs level creation tools that are simple to use with around TWO DECADES of memes that enable people to not look at the obvious that 99% of people can't design good levels.

Look dude, I know you could walk up to someone with maybe, let's say on a scale of 1-20 of videogame knowledge an 8 and say "Oh hey do you know Rayman?" most people aren't going to recognize him, and even discounting legends/origins, I don't think you're going to find people familiar with his 2D games with any level of certainty.

Don't get me wrong I love the hoodie wearing bean looking fucker, but to say he's recognizable is at best optimistic.

And that's even getting away from the topic of Easy to use level designer kits usually result in 99% shit

The value of Mario maker is the ability to easily share levels and play other people's levels. And you get good feedback from people playing, comments, where they died, how many people like it, etc.

Lunar magic is a better editor hands down, but it's more difficult to use and it's hard to find and share levels, at least compared to smm.

Combined with how popular Mario is smm being very successful is no surprise

because Mario Maker has gadgets and enemies that interact with each other leading to interesting setups. If it weren't for these expermimental setups SMM wouldn't be popular. Just watch any Ceave Gaming video and you will see the difference. SMM has more in common with minecraft but unlike minecraft SMM is fun.

Because Nintendo can make users do all the work and make them pay for the experience of doing so, all while shutting down better made free versions of such, and people will praise them for doing so. Rayman doesn't have those sorts of fans.
