Was Paper Jam any good? It looked fun but the later Mario RPGs were pretty rocky in terms of quality. Also, was Bowsers Inside Story 3DS a decent remake or did they dumb it down or remove shit?

I've heard that they've been down hill since Dream Team.

Same, and it’s hard to find many legit reviews on Nintendo game

d0d976  No.16687438

Invidious embed. Click thumbnail to play.

It's pretty bad. People figured out how broken it was in a month of release, they didn't really give two flying shits about the game.

ee6dac  No.16687456

>>16687438

Being broken doesn’t really matter to me to much (seems like all Nintendo games have that issue), I’m more interested on if it’s actually fun, and how the story/localization is.

its weird how Nintendo hit the formula perfectly on Superstar Saga then every game after has been a step down.

Speedruns aren't a metric for deciding a game's worth. You can "beat" something like ALttP or SM64 in a few minutes with the right tricks.

626d58  No.16687465

>>16687456

It isn't really fun, too much shit doesn't mesh correctly together, like you see 2 mechanics that work together and then a third one that doesn't mesh with either is just thrown in randomly. The writing is also pretty garbage.

I'd avoid this game like the plague because there's these awful parts where you have to search for paper toads and they're one of the worst additions to these games I've seen. Also it uses nuPaper Mario style which is fucking heresy.

It's more important whether you're likely to run into those glitches through a typical playthough. Most Nintendo games? Not so much, really. Meanwhile, something like Sonic Adventure? It's absolutely impossible to play the game without clipping or glitching through something multiple times.

Paper Jam's shit, but I wouldn't put the fact that you can glitch through it if you really try as the biggest reason for that.

22760c  No.16687490

I played through it on a flashcart 3 years ago, and it was a real slog to get through. Just so many WORDS WORDS WORDS WORDS, generic art, and mindnumbing lengthy tutorials for babbys. You can tell Miyamoto were forcing them to drink from dog dishes, because there were hardly any enemies but goombas and koopas. After wincing through most of the Mario and Luigi, and the 3DS Paper Mario, I've pretty much had it for Mario RPGs. And I was a die-hard fan of the N64 and GameCube Paper Mario's when I was growing up. Even the older Mario RPGs leave a sour taste in my mouth now, after the butcherings of the newer games.

Shit, I’ll stay far away from it then. I’ll probably pick up BIS remake as it’s a title I could see getting rare, but save it for later.

621889  No.16687499

Honestly I've never finished a M&L game other than BIS, I've tried on occasion with SS but never bothered to get very far. Playing as the big guy Bowser himself was really fun but the 2D sections were a slog. They felt tacked on because Mario and Luigi had their names on the box. Even when they manage to make it out of his body and have free access to the 3D areas there's so little left to do that it feels like a waste. The team should have bit the bullet and wrote the entire game around only using Bowser.

>Meanwhile, something like Sonic Adventure

DX and all of its ports are broken pieces of shit, no shit. Play the original international Dreamcast release or use fan-patches, don't put up with corporate garbage.

f9e5d4  No.16687517

I played it for a little bit when it first came out. There was nothing to write home about aside from “Oh a crossover, neat.” But whereas an actual crossover vidya would make the concept interesting, Paper Jam takes no creative strides outside of Paper Mario’s gimmicks. I wasn’t very interested so I quit playing after the first hour, might consider picking it up again just so I can form a more in-depth critique of it.

>Also, was Bowsers Inside Story 3DS a decent remake or did they dumb it down or remove shit?

I’m not very familiar with the remake, but I heard they added some Bowser Jr bonus mode like for the SS remake and that the music quality was downgraded, though I might be confusing that for SS. If its anything like the SS remake where they removed Geno and some of the original designs, I’d say stick with the original.

>>16687489

>he played the DX version

There’s your problem. Either play the Dreamcast version or download the multitude of fan patches for the PC version, start with BetterSADX. Plus, I never ran into as many bugs or errors with DX as other people had. I always assumed it was exaggerated thanks to JewTubers making a mountain out of a molehill for views Thanks KikeGrumps.

Yes, it's an abortion. People just don't give it flack as much as Paper Mario, because M&L still has a cracking veneer of quality.

Way too much autism in this thread. It's Okay™, it's nowhere near as bad as Sticker Star and a step down from better M&L games. I played through it, didn't hate it. Muh speedruns, though.

>Paper jam

With comparison to previous titles it's awful. On its own:

>Cards introduced in the 3ds line of games are free of consequence kill everything and heal buttons. Makes fights a joke.

>Papercraft battles are gay. They try to embed a rhytmn mini game into it. Making it play like a mess of ideas.

>Some anon brought up collecting toads. Imagine doing that throughout the game. Rather than immediate rewards for your actions you collect these paper thin fucks and take them home for a big prize.

In the end the story's a lame crossover episode of a cartoon show. Paper mario is released from his necronomicon and murders bowser(s) again. Doesn't help that all the boss battles are the same enemies from previous entries. The one good idea I can remember is paper marios copy ability. Only interesting one too.

>BiS remake

They fuck with bro moves again. Just like the other remake. Less possible damage output dealt and outright simplification of certain bro moves. Play them yourself. You'll see.

>its weird how Nintendo hit the formula perfectly on Superstar Saga then every game after has been a step down.

It's mostly because they took it from a "beta" version of the game and refined it after slapping the Mario franchise onto it.

Nintendo does this shit all the time, but since it's mostly with games developed in-house they get no real reason to be blamed about it.

>>16691290

It had terrible voice acting (and they knew it, so they let you redub all cutscenes while mocking you for disliking it) except for Charles Martinet, obviously, I think some has-been e-celeb voices Ashley and it hurt a lot of people's feelings (for some reason they scrapped the great DJ-Remixed like voice actors from previous games), the art style is absolute garbage and has massive oversemplifications of the main characters, there's a minigame from WariowareWii where you direct men and women to their own toilets that got reworked into a PC green-yellow asexual bathroom directing one (which totally defeats the purpose of the original minigame) and overall the microgames selection is pretty sterile. The new microgames aren't that interesting either since they do jack shit with the 3DS' features. Only good parts about it were the tomboy loli character trying to retrieve a potty, Charles Martinet and his dubbed versions for all languages, the final Golden Wario gimmick where he messes up with your screen while you're trying to beat the high score and the music selection letting you play all the vocalized themes from all games in both US and JP formats.

If you still care about Warioware, just play DIY, Gold pretty much killed the franchise unless Nu-tendo scratches 1-2-play or whatever and goes back to it.

>>16691514

The original concept of Warioware came about when the Wario Land 4 devs were shitposting and messing with the voice synthetizer and real-life-to-sprite-ocr or whatever that system's called like (the GBA devkit had some powerful tools to get sound samples and transforming pictures into sprites), so they developed the game in secret, you can tell by the amount of shared assets between WL4 and WW, when Nu-tendo was still Nintendo and realized the potential for the series they started making microgames that would play to the strengths of the console they were testing (except for the Wii U which sucked ass except for the gyroscope) to sell the titles as some sort of a glorified tech demo for potential buyers. Twisted is widely considered the best one, but I much rather prefer WWWii because of the pick up and play nature of the game and just how much creative freedom the devs were given.

Microgames are definitely not a time waster, try and get a high score and see how satisfactory it feels. DIY has plenty of pornographic microgames too, so many in fact that Nutendo had to shut down the servers in fear the kids would keep downloading them. Also DIY has a really good tool to teach basic gamedev and midi creation.

>three different alphabets

Hiragana and katakana are the same thing (IIRC, hiragana was developed by women as kind of a cursive form of katakana) and the kanji are just pictograms or emoticons that are only used for the written language for the sake of simplifying things. While there might be double the characters in hiragana and katakana, they represent sounds in the language, so pronunciation is almost always how it's written and there are a lot less sounds than in English. As for the kanji, they're assimilated through the years and are probably the biggest hurdle, but there are mnemonic tricks that can be employed to help you, or you can just be me and brute force it.
