I am a sucker that played it. Doom as a franchise holds a special place in my faggy jaded heart. However, I will tell you that it is boring and I only got halfway through before losing interest. The game is extremely segmented, there are even challenges that you can do later on that basically teleport you to a challenge arena. There is no cohesion between level design and encounter design whatsoever, the designers had to limit themselves by making any significantly threatening encounter an arena so they have less variables to worry about. It's very disappointing and loses sight of an integral part of Doom and classic FPS in general, which even Doom 3 retained.

I remember having a chat with a friend about all the features that were supposed to be in it (surprise, surprise, they were all cut) and even back then it sounded way too implausible for me.
The hype surrounding it was insane, but I held back.

That was really fun.

You should really look into the way AVGN turned out recently. They were taken over by a company called Screenwave. It's why there's that movie reel segmant with these three fat fuck literally who's that are from the company that write the episodes now. They're a scummy bunch, Mike Matai played a decent role in allowing them to take over cinemassacre. You can notice which episodes they write by how shitty they are. It was so bad that Bootsy and the Guitar Guy, Kyle, had left. The three fatsos themselves are fucked; the caveman one's an alcohlic, the morbidly obese one writes all the shit episodes, and the black-haired one is just meh. In short, AVGN is going to crash and burn in the near future because the Screenwave takeover is making them bleed viewers. They're all censorship happy, hiding criticism and people asking where Bootsy and Kyle went. There's even some creepier faggot named Ryan who seems to be the brains behind all this shit, but I don't have the details on that.

Honestly, James should have ended it after the movie, or failing that, after the 10 year anniversary. There have been some good episodes, like Earthbound, which was pretty heartwarming due to things like James letting slip that he played it with his daughter. But as it’s been said, it’s all for money at this point, Old School Nerd was based off of Bull sessions about Nintendo games that James and Mike used to have in College, with parts of the script coming verbatim from conversations they had. The Castlevania retrospective was a good example of that, as James has said that most of the script was taken from conversations about Castlevania he’s had with Mike and others. But episodes like Sonic 06 or Drake of the 99 Dragons come off like a comedian trying to do topical comedy with a frame of reference 10 years out of date. The shitty RLM knockoff show also didn’t help, James reviewing movies was always better with him on his own where he could let his movie autism flow. Like the old monster madness or the Godzilla videos.

To be fair, Fusion is the most linear and story heavy game out of the 2D games. However, I don't think the story itself is what fucked Metroid, but rather how forced and shoehorned it is. Think of Metroid prime, most if not all lore is contained in you scanning the enviroment, so you can go about all game without knowing shit.
