What systems or monitors do you find give you eye strain? What handhelds have you found easier on the eyes than others? What games fuck your shit up and what make for hours of coziness?

For me the Vita is a monster for causing eye strain but the PSP and 3/DS are all fine.

46dbc2  No.16654073

higher brightness = quicker eye strain

That's it, for the most part. There was no need to make an entire thread for a retarded topic like this, cucktard.

a67fef  No.16654089

I don't know if that counts but as I got older, small screens became more annoying for me. I remember not having any problems with the screen of my Game Boy when I got it as a kid but I tried playing with it again a year ago because my PC broke down and I just couldn't stand the tiny screen. Same with my Switch, trying to play Xenoblade Chronicles 2 in handheld mode gives me a headache. The fact that the Switch's buttos and sticks feel terrible certainly doesn't help.

228333  No.16654092

>>16654073

It's an interesting topic rarely discussed. Some screens with darker screens will strain your eyes faster than others with lighter ones.

As you get older your eyes aren't as easy to bounce back as when you're a snot nosed brat like you are. You might learn something useful to you rather than screeching cuck at people.

Mainly just PC. Unlike the PS4 and a couch, my face is a lot closer to a monitor than it is to a tv. I often have to turn down the monitor's brightness or, if I'm being really lazy, just wear sunglasses while I play. My optometrist sister keeps warning me that sitting too close to a lit screen for prolonged periods of time can cause irreparable eye damage. I generally take her word for it because I don't want to end up as one of those nerdy gamers who needs glasses. And forget any VR shit. She downright tells me to stay away from those VR headsets altogether.

Eye damage is done by not blinking and not changing focus. Flat panels don't change what causes eye damage.

I'm staring at a LED monitor for literally entire day every day for years, never felt any eye strain. Visual acuity went to shit long ago of course.

19bed5  No.16654277

>>16654073

wrong. it's the lack of back-lit ambient light. you can crank your brightness as long as you have decent lighting behind your monitor.

d0ca12  No.16654288

Another good idea is to take breaks from focusing on shit that is close to you by looking at something far away instead. It would be a good idea not to sit in one spot staring at one thing for hours anyway. I gave up the idea of becoming a programmer for that reason. I'd rather have a healthier job and work on hobby projects at my own pace than ruin my eyes and wear myself out as a codemonkey wageslave.

>>16654073

Correct, assuming you mean backlight and not picture brightness. But keep in mind, using low backlight in a very bright environment will also result in eye strain. Unfortunately so many places don't advertise what their displays support. A minimum and maximum backlight brightness in lumens is needed to pick a comfortable display. I need lower brightness as I've always preferred ambient sunlight to indoor lighting, but my screens won't dim any further so I've had no choice. Some screens flicker more when dimmed as well, causing even worse eye strain, from what I understand. I don't know who makes those though. I'd like to avoid them.

>>16654156

Yeah, it really should have been obvious to everyone as soon as it was announced that strapping a screen to your face is a bad idea. It'll be interesting to see what happens to the people using them.

I've noticed that higher pixel count causes more eyestrain. For that reason I use a small 480p screen.

2e63ee  No.16654461

I think my eye strain is unrelated to screen. Sinus issue or something. I did get eye strain for screens a few months ago but don't really get it now, it was probably because of winter meaning I had lights on for a lot longer than compared to summer. I did get some issues when I emulated Super Mario World 2 a little while ago, one of the levels was forcing me to really focus.

Get one of those gamer glasses. Not even joking, they help.

Better yet, spend a little more and get blue-light blocking glasses at your local optometrist. Ungraduated models are still pretty cheap, and don't have that disgusting madcatz yellowish-tinge so you can get away wearing them outside the house.

If you need graduated glasses, they get expensive. if you're only using them for vidya though you might just get ungraduated ones and wear them on top of your regular glasses.

This.

I use f.lux to heavily reduce the blue light and you can set it to a specific peak brightness during the day and then have it very gradually dim as it gets late. Has a whole bunch of configurations to make it just right as well.

It has removed any eye strain I experienced in the past, can recommend. Does anyone use a different program?

I thought that was just a 3d renderer, but I guess it also lets you change your screen colour? Don't see how it's more free, collects a bunch of user data it seems like according to their privacy page.

Looking at LightBulb as another option, might give that one a try.

>>16654228

Wrong. CRTs fire electrons at high velocity onto a phosphor subtrate to generate an image. High power electromagnets deflect the path of the electrons to target each pixel of the display. Color displays have three electron guns that fire in sequence, tripling the electron count. A colour CRT at a resolution of 1920×1080 at 60hz is firing 6,220,800 electrons every sixtieth of a second, or 373,248,000 every second. Double that number for 120hz CRTs. The electromagnetic radiation diffused from the phosphor plate is enough to cause significant strain on the retina because it is bombarding your eyes with a constant spray of high velocity radiation that your eyes are not evolved to handle.

Flat panel displays on the other hand are simply 2D arrays of individually very low energy lights, regardless of what kind of "lamp" is used (LED, LCD, OLED, QLED). They do not produce high energy radiation by their very nature and are MUCH gentler on your retinae because of this. You are still looking at a direct light source, so eyestrain can always be an issue, but unlike a CRT, you are not sitting in front three full auto radiation guns with only a thin film of phosphor and glass shielding your eyes from its constant spray.

Also, when I was a kid I went temporarily blind from staring at my CRT while 3D modeling for something like 6 hours straight. I have never experienced this problem as an adult with flatpanels, with older eyes and longer periods of use.

tl;dr you're full of shit
