FOSS is mostly made with soucecode and the end result as not being the product but the support for the code being the product.

This is how most FOSS projects stay afloat, as a non profit foundation that aims to provide support and maintain code.

FOSS doesn't work well with video games simply based on the nature of video games. Not to say there aren't some high profile Opensource games out there, battle for Wesnoth and 0ad come to mind, as well as the many opensource clones/ports of pre-existing games.

However, the reason for why those games manage to get developers is entirely different from the reason huge projects like linux or gnu get developers. The reason why they get developers is mostly out of passion/hobby projects, they aren't well funded and the only funds they get are from code contributers and often opensource games suffer from low quality (just look at fucking super tux kart as an example of that).

The other part is, no one wants to fucking make video games.
