Roguelite is a really shitty genre. It takes the emergence of roguelikes but removes the immense complexity resulting from the combination of random elements, it takes the basic game rules of whatever genre it's cloning and removes the intentional level design which make those rules work their maximum potential only possible through talented human effort. Talking about Dead Cells specifically, the mere idea of making a metroidvania with a random area structure is daunting considering how getting intimate with the environment is one of the main elements of the genre, an average player will almost memorize every section of the map by the endgame, or at least will know what kind of danger to expect by just looking the background color pallette, this kind of knowledge heavily facilitates subsequent runs, no wonder all metroids have "speedrun" challenges. Throwing away all of this for some "muh unique run" gimmick is something that could only have originated from some pretentious brainstorm, where the only thing valued was how "crazy" the "x meets y" ideas could get, completely ignoring what makes x and y special in the first place.
That said, the controls are tight, but the game is overall too boring for my taste. Polite sage.
