Will I be fucked over if I start my first Distant Worlds game as a pre-warp civilization? I feel like I want to start from the bottom instead of having stuff going on as I start, but if that's like an extra hard and/or novel challenge for the game I'll just start a normal game.

I've played a bit of Between the Stars. It's okay, but I'd wait for it to get further in development. It isn't one you'd want to play, then repeat down the road due to the way its progression is structured. Certainly fun as-is, with the exception that you can't control which weapons fire at a time, so you have to fire everything at once, even if it's ineffective against shields/hull. Does have the "Rebel Galaxy in 3D" thing going for it, sans music.

NMS and now Outer Wilds, finally after all these years the game is done. And I gotta say, it's really something. It's kind of the opposite of NMS, being a single handcrafted solar system with tons of story and lore shit, a lot of stuff to discover. It's really great and comfy and moody at times. Exploring ancient ruins, going into the depths of a rainy ocean planet, walking on a station orbiting extremely close to the sun… It's everything I hoped it to be. Also, the devs being an indie studio and filled with kind of hipster looking people I was worried there would be forced agitprop and space gays, but no, it's 100% clean. Only downside is that it's only on sale on Tencent~EGS, so despite it being worth it I can't give the dev guys any money for it.

Seriosuly, you guys should check it out if you're even slightly into the exploration part of space games:

You asked for it. This has no happy ending for our Merchant Lord.

> Now, to keep this short, most of my stations were mass produced. The settings on the turrets were always the same. An issue I had neglected to fix at the inception of my venture.

> Turrets, when it came to targeting functions, had only a few, sparse settings. They could be set to Target inbound missiles, weapons on ships, the ship with the highest danger factor, the furthest ship, or as was my case, the nearest.

> As long as a ship had power, even if cut in half, or a small chunk drifting, as long as that chunk had a power source going, it was deemed a ship by the onboard computers.

> As the fleet punched through, and one of my turrets took out a mining vessels, it split, a small chunk with the reactor floating right in front of my turret that was active. It spent all of a full two minutes whittling down that fucker, allowing the fleet to escape.

> The owner of the ship, a miner, who was currently piloting a cargo barge in the escape, saw this.

> It gave him a moment to think. And with thinking, came a plan.

> He called it a direct counter to my gun platform stations.

> I called them Teacups.

> The drones he made were small. One small fuelcell for the power source, one primary thruster on the back, four directional and adjustment thrusters on all sides, with a armored crest directly up front protecting all internal components.

> The drone was programmed to do one thing, and one thing only. Fly to my stations, locate the weapon systems, and sit in front of them.

> Alone, they were harmless. One shot could take a single teacup out.

> Together, in groups of thirty or fourth, it didn't matter how many I chewed through. They would sit in front of the guns until all that remained was their damnable metal paneling blocking every shot after until those were also destroyed.

> Three factors made these the best counter.

> One, cost of creation. They were hellishly cheap.

> Two, ease of deployment. Simply place down a constructor, make fourth, send the signal, watch them run.

> Three, their own construction. They were fragile, but left enough wreckage that would block my shots for a good, long while.

I would like to use this non-vidya post of to teach you guys about a somewhat obscure moon: Enceladus.

It's the sixth largest moon of Saturn, it was named after a mythological Greek giant. It's one of the brightest objects in the entire Solar system relative to its size, it is made almost entirely of freshwater ice.

Enceladus has liquid oceans beneath its surface, pressure regularly causes massive jets of water to stream out of the moon's poles. Complex organic compounds were found in these streams by the Cassini orbiter. The moon is considered to be one of the best bets for life in the Solar system.

I mean just look at Fallout 76, people really seem to think Todd was the guy who decided to push it out the door before it was even remotely complete, when it was the publisher who was responsible for it.

The first time I thought to find one in Space Engine I of course clicked "Land on Object". I was slightly disappointed because it seemed like nothing special happened. The sky was turning noticeably, but not all that fast. Then I realized it was flickering as it moved. Both of the games I mentioned focus on space combat. First is about piloting a fighter/gunship with nothing but combat and scavenging, the other is like Freelancer, but with capital ships, smaller space scope, a bit less features and much less jank.

Rude. If you want space dogfights then I really can't think of any recent games that did it well. It's mostly open world sims or arcade style games that doesn't take advantage of the third axis and play more like old naval games. Freespace 2 was kind of a peak.

Years ago I played it for 2 hours and dismissed it as lacking in content and depth. Now that I revisited the game I see the light. 40 hours later I actually appreciate it even more, as a masterful dogfighting game that does that one thing very well.

Storytelling and scripting aside, just from a combat standpoint, it does everything FS2 does but better. A lot of FS2's letdowns don't exist in HotDS. Almost every weapon and upgrade is viable and satisfying to use, changing your fleet loadout actually changes the gameplay, and the fact that you can control any ship at any time adds a lot more interest since the player is responsible for much more - there's zero downtime.

There are a handful of fanmade FSO missions that offer more interesting gameplay, in terms of the strategy and mechanical skill required of the player. There are definitely some blue planet missions that you simply can't top no matter what. But HotDS is super fun compared to stock FS2.

Playing Empire at War Remake, The mod is really fun

>Playing as the Empire

>Fighters are really dangerous now since most of them have shields (Atleast rebellion) which means tie fighters/interceptors/bombers die quickly due to not having one Fuck you palpy

>Due to how expensive it is to build space stations i have to concentrate on key systems and religiously Defend Rendeli and Kuat Drive yards since i want to spam Star Destroyers soon

>Rebellion harrassing my space lanes with Fighters and corvettes but atleast Acclamators and what few Victorys i have defend easily

>Fast forward mid game conquered enough rebellion systems so that i can just foritify and defend

>Main fleet (Mid Game) is IMP 1 and Venators since i needed interceptors and shielded fighters

>Late game Buy IMP 2s and kept Venators and Victory classes and built Death Star

>have a slow and painful push in the outer rim and its my fault for letting have most of the territories

>The Solider voice prompt.

>Station lost.

>Our soldiers are making planet fall.

>Enemy fleet defeated.

>Spiritualist voice prompt.

>Our station has fallen to Heretics.

>Our champions are making planetfall. May the spirits protect them.

>Heretic fleet defeated.

Since I have a God-Empress, I think I like this one more. Also while Spiritualist isn't affected by my governing ethics, about 25% of the pop follow the God-Empress. Also the Stellar League made up of 5 + earth empires fighting another fed made up of 4. They're also fighting a Fallen Empire that I think has woken up. They're ridiculously strong at 133k fleet strength and I need that tech.

>Gave Sidney the Chosen One trait as I was going Spiritualist anyway and I wanted her to live from the start of the game to the end.

>Sidney was just a girl on Earth when she heard of the Ulysses Initiative, the project to shoot 5 ships into the wormhole at the edge of the solar system.

>She trained herself in military craft, spent the better part of her youth in the Academy then eventually took the position of Lieutenant, serving under her Captain aboard The Chrysanthemum.

>The Chrysanthemum entered the wormhole but encountered difficulty. The UN heard nothing from the other ships and scrapped the project. The Chrysanthemum was lost in the Wormhole and there were casualties aboard the ship, including the Captain. Sidney was knocked unconscious with the turbulence.

>It was there that she ended up in an unknown place. What would be known as the Shroud, she panicked and asked for help, asked for something to save her people. A spirit of immense power gave a fraction of his power to her and when she woke back up aboard the Chrysanthemum, she guided it out of the wormhole and toward the moon that would be known as Unity. People aboard the ship would call it nothing but a miracle.

>With the Captain dead and with her reputation for saving the ship, Sidney was promoted to Captain, but changed the station to Marshal instead, as she was now responsible for overseeing the set up of the colony.

>Over the next few years, the colony was attacked by bugs and that meant every citizen of the Chrysanthemum had to fight them off with basic weapons. This gave us a strong sense of unity however, the planet doesn't want us here but damn if we'll let it chuck us back out into the void. Sidney herself lead various units in defense of the ship site that would turn into the capital.

>After taming Unity and establishing a planetary Capital, there came the question of what to do next. Sidney then christened herself as "The Grand Marshal of the Commonwealth of Man". She laid down the objective that it was Mankind's Manifest Destiny to take the stars, that the aliens she knew that where at her door would seek to snuff them out, so they would take the stars from them first.

>It began small at first, a couple of escort Corvettes was all they could build but Sidney knew that technology would give them an edge over the other space faring aliens in this arm of the galaxy.

>She had found out what happened to the Hibiscus, another Ulysses ship that ran out of power and their crew turned to cannibalism. She thanks every day that the entity in the Shroud granted her power to help her people.

>It was 30 years into her reign of Grand-Marshal that people noticed something strange, by all accounts, Sidney was 80, yet didn't look a day over 30. That's when she explained the miracle that had helped save their ship in the early days and within 20 years, some of the more prominent humans had expanded their minds to become psychic. By the turn of 2270, Humanity as a whole in the Commonwealth of Man exploded in psychic energy and every single one could feel the Shroud in the back of their mind.

>It was here that Sidney had her first child, Anastasia Beauclair. It was also during this time that the Commonwealth had spread out and captured several Xeno species. One, the Cervanti, were "space elves" as Sidney put it and "would look good for them serving on their knees." So while other species were forced out or sold to the slave market, the Cervanti was manipulated with on a genetic level so they would become the ultimate servile species of Man. The men were made stronger and shipped off to deep mines, electrical grids and farms, knowing that if they screw up under the watchful eyes of the enforces, they would be erased and another body called from a template stored in a nearby gene-bank. The females were only lightly experimented with as they were to serve as concubines and the like for those in high strata.

>By 2280, the Commonwealth had received it's first transmission from Earth in almost 100 years. What greeted them is still reviled about to this day. Instead of a human chancellor of the UN greeting them on the miracle of their survival, they were greeted by an enormous snail called a Wacegi. The Wacegi explained that the UN had joined a Federation called the Stellar League and had ceded leadership of Earth to the current leader of the Federation, their race. Sidney grew a rage so powerful it was said that a planet wide strom covered Unity for an entire week afterwards. She let it known in no uncertain terms that the Commonwealth of Man was no friend to Xeno and that when they take Earth, no Xeno shall walk it again.

>After this, Sidney had enough. She had noticed the growing religious cult growing around her and granted them a position of worshiping her. Calling herself now the God-Empress of the Commonwealth of Man, she built temples on every world humans had set foot on and combined with their new telepathic abilities, they reached a level of Unity previously unknown to man.

>But sad new came at 2320. Anatasia had died. While Sidney was drawing power from the Shroud and was somehow Immortal, she still saw the need for a successor, just in case something happened to her. Valerian came to be the crown prince and in Anatasia's honor, the twin planets of the Nithascal system were renamed with her children's name.

>By 2350, the Commonwealth had the lead in technology in the galaxy, not quite as powerful as that of a Fallen Empire, yet but that's when they made a breakthrough. Opening up the L-gates allowed them travel to a system where the science team met a being called Gray. Gray was a colony of billions and billions of nanites that had destroyed their creator species but tried to recreate them when stuck in the L-cluster. When Sidney talked with her directly, she invited her into the Commonwealth. Some of the Governors questioned why but after the recent death of the Governor for the Unity sector, Sidney put Gray in charge. While some were doubtful, they could see the close connection Sidney wanted in another Immortal, even if Gray was a few million years old and Sidney was only 180.

>By 2400, The Commonwealth owns half the galaxy. Transportation is beginning to become a problem. Sidney recognizes this as her Fleets are relying on wormholes and L-gates to get around. She pledges to build Gateways and a Dyson Sphere to deal with the energy crisis.

Phew, that's 200 years of history for the Commonwealth of Man. Just wanted to chronicle it. Gameplay of Stellaris might be ehhh but story wise I dig this shit. Hope you don't mind greentext.

Reminds me of my Empire in Star Ruler

>Star as a small confederation of 4-5 systems minding my own business. Just trading and producing mining goods.

>Alien neighbor declares war out of the blue, I am not really prepared but put up a good defense even if I am slowly losing the war.

>They invade my last system but short of finishing me they just leave but still be at war. I decide to never forget.

>Spend the next few decades completely redefining my economy and building 3 massive carriers equipped with sun implosion devices. I make them and their escort jump to the home system of the aliens, deep into their territory.

>The carriers were hastily built and my designs flawed. The first one has its engine fail at the edge of the enemy home system, it's no big deal it can provide cover for the 2 others. the second one gets entangled in a battle and can't advance, the third one gets close enough to the star to fire but needs some time to prepare the weapon.

>It finally fires and as the star stars to collapse the carrier that fired starts to prepare to jump away. The two others are too damage to leave but continue to provide cover. In the end, it jumps at the last second and only one carrier and 2 escorts makes it. Out of the 60-70 ships that went in, 3 came back but the alien home systems is now destroyed.

>Following this, I start to completely distrust the alien, I shut down my borders and just mind my own business, advancing technologies and growing my empire. Border-crossing rights are often asked, but always denied.

This is not over.

>After a while, my fleet becomes completely automated, the carrier which destroyed the alien is still in service but not crewed anymore. It orbits the Homeworld.

>I start working on the Project, a giant ship, solar system sized. It is being constructed in a secret shipyard base outside the galaxy. Even at max FTL speed it would take decades from the nearest star system to reach.

>The Project start to sucks most of my resources and I no longer care for what happens around, I am too focused on it.

>Aliens again declares war against me but this time I only have an aging fleet, the newest model being several hundred years old. Even then I am more advanced than them and they have trouble fighting my fleet.

>Still, I am losing because I continue to focus on the Project, delivering resources to the base outside the Galaxy.

>The aliens get to my home system again, the fighting is fierce but I continue to ship resources to it. I lose my home system but still get to keep a few resources producing system on the edge of the galaxy.

>A few thousands years later the Project is complete, a fully automated star-system sized ship but I have no empire anymore and my race is extinct. Deciding a galaxy without humans is not worth existing, I made it slowly makes its way to the center of the galaxy and collapse the black hole in the center (it has HP) which destroyed everything around it.

I played it when I was younger, I remember the story being interesting. But yeah, you can't really interact with stations except in missions. The free roam mostly consist of pirating shit, I recommend the Jaff mod for that, you can change his ship and make him shut up, it gets old fast. Later you have different ships and more systems and ammo to exchange cargo for making you look for ships to pirate from certain l-point and factions.

You can spice up the game with mods from here.

Outer Wilds was such an amazing game (Not worthy enough to be given money tough, due to EPIC gamestore, and devs being californians) There should be more games like this in that you explore planets and do more than just stay still on an empty space of land in a nameless planet.

I would like, for example, be inside a gas giant, like going on an station inside its atmosphere (Or even deeper!), and watch the brutal winds & storms of said gas giant. Is there any other similar games to this?

starsector gets old quick. The early and middle game is fun; but once you get a planet and max it out money becomes practically a non-issue and there's really nothing to do except go to random systems to find blueprints.

once you get these blueprints and have a massive OP fleet there's just nothing to do with it. I guess this is the problem with all open world games though. It just feels like the balance of planets is way off, planets are way too OP and just one or two is an infinite money printing operation.

I brought it in from home as I bought it from them a few years ago. One of the techs obviously wasn't told it was mine and probably put it into stock. I currently have them checking their cameras to prove I brought it in, but I guarantee they'll question if I grabbed it off the shelf or not, in which case I'll tell them to count their fucking stock and check the serial numbers because it won't add up.

I'm sure you've figured this out by now and you don't feel like getting your ass spanked any further, but never trust computer shops for upgrades. One of the local shops installed an ancient 80gb hard drive in my ex-gf's brothers computer. He was charged about $150 for it. He was a fucking retard and didn't understand what was wrong with it. This was 5 years ago, by the way.

Oh, and I have a friend who went to a seperate shop. He wanted to install a video card that another mutual friend gave him. He upgraded from a 980 to a 1080ti and just gave him the old card. He was too afraid to install it himself, so he let this shop do it. When he went back to get it, they handed him a bill of almost $500. They didn't just swap video cards, they explained to him that his hard drive wasn't compatible with his new card, so they replaced it, scrapped his old hard drive, and also installed a new copy of Windows 10 at his expense. They also had to tack on hefty charges for "mounting kits". They replaced his PSU with a significantly cheaper PSU of the same power. He let them play him like a fiddle. It has been a year, and we STILL make fun of him. Both me and the guy who gave him the card would have been happy to help him. I wasn't even told this was happening until he said he couldn't do anything because his computer has been in the shop for two weeks.

A warning to everyone - keep your systems far away from computer shops. They are only good for buying parts, and only if they're not ridiculously marked up.

That's an issue with all games with open worlds, yeah. If you can do whatever at your own pace, you can't be forced to always fight an uphill battle. Colonies have been rebalanced a bit, they're currently big money sinks and you need about a million credits to get it up and running properly, and ship prices have been increased as well (about three times higher price than previously for ships bigger than frigates). Colonies would be fine, if there was some challenge that required this kind of money, or if colonies were harder to set up.

4cb859  No.16654083

>>16654067

Colonies are really neat if you play ironmode in that they can keep you from starting all the way from scratch. Personally, I think that once the player passes a certain "power threshold" the Remnant should start a war or something; this would give a larger threat that colonies would be needed for resisting, while also giving that Alpha core Star Fortress and Planetary Shield a real purpose for being there. The dev was planning on adding more story stuff at some point, and it seems like the game is reaching a state where that should start getting implemented IMO.

If you go by GOG, I conquered the system in 30 hours. In my case the snowball process started after I had autotrader research (which entails a research station and a consistent funding source for it [I used solar power but other options may work better]) and a good little AI trade ship that made way more money than I did because I suck at trading. It took about 10 'meh'-tier hours to reach this point, but afterwards I had a blast with corporate backstabbing and truces to fully monopolize all trade. I could have done a lot better if I hadn't blown my money on some fighters early on. As long as you maintain good terms with pirates you really don't need a military early game, so it's certainly possible to get through the early slog faster than what I did. Thankfully scenario mode is there for learning about combat without having to put your own coffers on the line. I need to try it again with a more factory-oriented approach to see how it goes over. Really the issue early is that nobody has enough trade ships, so nobody can make things to build trade ships. Time accelerating for a couple months could probably fix that quick, at the expense of denying you the player of that first foot in the door.

Nah. Outer Wilds is pretty unique. When I played the old build of the game years ago I was really looking for another comfy space game like it and I never found anything.

The universe is going through Heat Death, followed by the Big Crunch. Who knows what exactly the eye is, what I figure is that since the eye is older than the universe itself the Eye is the center point to which all matter returns during Big Crunch, which is followed by a new Big Bang creating a new universe. By being in the eye the Hearthian astronauts and Solanum you fuck you better have not forgotten about her(him? can't remember) are able to jam out to the end and creation of the universe, maybe imparting a little something on what's to come.

The reason the scout was there is because you threw your scout into the eye. It's mostly just a fun little extra thing but it implies that what enters the eye survives, either by becoming quantum or whatever else.

Also everything in OW is scaled the fuck down immensely. If you can fly from one side of a solar system to the other in less than two minutes I'll believe that 14.3 billion years is enough time for stars/planets/life to evolve.

I like it, with one exception:

It has very high lethality because there are no shields. It's supposed to be realistic, which translates to paper-thin armor even on endgame ships (they get a lot of dakka though), and that combined with the lack of shields translates to heaps of lost ships in AI fleets and quite possibly your own demise.

>but there was a scout thing right at the end, dunno if that was just a meme but I doubt the universe just exploded

Spoilers:

Your own universe fizzled out and you basically witnessed the creation of a new universe at the end and when you fired your scout into the eye it couldn't be retrieved because it no longer existed in your own. If I had to guess, the Eye is just the new universe in creation but it doesn't behave by your universes laws so it's basically whatever the writers want to do they can get away with. Which is why the end is such a cluster fuck of weird shit

Honestly the ending of the game was the weakest part for me. Both story wise and gameplay. They didn't go full meta like most indie titles like to but even then I like my stories with some structure and rules. With neither there's really no reason to be engaged for me. Gameplay wise once you enter the eye it's just a series of "do x" without any real puzzle or challenge. Wasn't a fan.

Still, loved what we got. And I say it every time I bring up the game. I fucking love small but powerful gravity wells in vidya. It's fun as fuck to mess around with. Even though I've beat the game and have discovered everything there is to find. I still like to get a solid orbit around the Sun Station and do risky things that require planning. Such as leaving my ship at the white hole, landing on the Interloper in my space suit, making it to the center of it when it orbited close to the sun, leaving it on the next orbit, and then leaving the comet when it was near the white hole again and making it back to my ship. Try that shit and tell me it isn't a game in itself as far as challenge is concerned.

>2400 comes into the Galactic year. Sidney orders the construction of the Gateway and Dyson Sphere projects. Due to the ammount of Alloys required, she also orders the fleets to return to home starbases and remain on standby orders.

>For the first time in 200 years, The Commonwealth isn't at war and a miniature golden age of construction, science and art breaks through. Sidney is delighted that her society is doing well but knew that she needs a break from war in order to shaw up her defenses and society.

>Sad news occurs in 2410. Valerian, beloved second son of the God-Empresses, dies at 150 years of age. Sidney mourns, renames Nithascal Secundus to Valerian II and names Yu Beauclair as her new successor. Sidney also celebrates her 250th birthday with some sadness.

>By 2420, the frame of the Dyson sphere is in place and the first gateways come online. Construction is accelerated on both while other Mega-structures are researched. The first ships in the Titan program are starting to be constructed.

>By 2430, 2 Forge worlds are operational. So with the feeding of minerals and output of Alloys, a retrofit program is engaged to refit most of the fleet with new weapons and specialty designed psi-shields recently researched.

>By 2440, the retrofits are almost complete and the first Titan class vessals are rolling out of their docks. The next phase of Gateways come online and things are looking good. Sidney orders a test by attacking a fallen empire. The fleets use the new Gateway system to take a year to move into position instead of half a decade to move across systems. It was also this time that the Cybrex Alpha Ring World was starting to be reconstructed.

>Using and expanded 12 fleets, they storm into the territory of the Fallen Empire. The star-bases put up some resistance but overall it goes smoothly. Except for Strike Fleet Chiron and 3 other strike groups with it, they face a 60k and 2 130k fleets. They escape with half strength each and then they move to quickly capture their home system. Chiron jumps first and it's an entire week before the next strike fleet joins them. What they see is Chiron reduced to one battered carrier and an Admiral who was trying to jump away. They covered that one ship but took a pounding themselves as the Fallen Empire was trying to rebuild it's fleets. But we took care of that and the Psy-Corp ground troops took care of the local defenses on the ground.

>The net gain from this was Fallen Empire worlds and 3 gaia worlds which are way more technologically advanced than mine. Also Dark matter tech, specifically the reactors as my Psi-shields are better than Dark Matter Shields. The downside was the few hundred thousand dead in fleet actions, the decimation of Chiron, who's home system is the capital world of Unity and 6 of the 9 titans built as for some reason the stations targeted them over the dozen battleships firing at them.

>With this much loss, much of 2450 was spent rebuilding but thanks to the Gateway project being largely completed during the war and the last phase of the Dyson Sphere being completed soon, the Alloy of the Commonwealth could rapidly be used to replace fleet vessels and by 2457 the fleets were once again rebuilt.

>It was then that we needed to expand. Population controls had already been enacted on several worlds and the commonwealth was eager to show it's strength once gain. By targeting a Favorable Compact empire, we could get closer to Stellar League territory and pressure them without engaging them directly. And so we went to war once more.

>During the early years of 2460, Unity also became a Ecumenopolis world, and for her 300th birthday Sidney had decided it would become a paradise world and by building leisure districts everywhere, it would become the soul of the Commonwealth.

There's also a break away human empire right in the middle of the largest empire in the Stellar League. Perfect excuse to invade and annex.

Oh yeah, it's jewish as fuck. The skin packs actually cost 4$ and you can only apply them to the ship you bought them for, but you get six different recolors. It's an atrocious system. The other terrible thing are the ship kits, which are 12$ for 16 different pieces of stuff you can stick on your ship to change the model, but each ship has it's own kit you have to buy. The other stuff like the cockpit voices and bobbleheads and engine colors are mostly fine, since you buy them once and get them for all of your ships and SRVs.

The skin/kit thing is so fucking terrible, that you're downright retarded if you spend any money on that before you get to the endgame, where you'll always be using the Anaconda, Cutter or the Fed Corvette. I mean, you're a retard if you throw money at this in general.

Been having fun with Starpoint Gemini Warlords, gameplay is a step up or sideways from 2, ship customization is more complex/freedom/irritating than in 2, building up a space empire and balancing faction relations is tedious but fun and it's much easier to lead a fleet of ships into battle when you don't have to personally give them a paycheck.

I had to stop after a bit. While having an empire cuts the grind severely for your ships, they had to add it back in somehow. So there is a point where the game just has a huge mass of resources needed to continue on the main quest. The ships are not as interesting as I like. They all feel like they play the same, from gunship up to the highest class they play, because they don't change the momentum between the classes, and there are no real differences in the way guns work between the classes. There are different turret configurations and you will get more of the heavy weapons, but nothing made me feel like I needed to change my engagement tactics. You do what you do no matter what class you are in, and given the power gap between a ship and one that is one or two tiers above it, there seems to be no reason to use the skills to empower specific classes. Not unless your goal is to use the money saved from not sizing up to buy the best upgrades and weapons you can get your hands on.

Fleet battles also are a bit ridiculous looking, because ships will just zoom in and stop at the optimum range for their weapons. Makes it a huge pain in the ass if you are trying to be sneaky and do a two pronged attack on the enemy.

Alright, so, Star Conflict is made by Gaijin Entertainment, famous for War Thunder and their rampant jewry and "historical accuracy" of making the Russians better than anyone else. Avoid like the plague.

EVE was sold to Tencent and has been dying a slow, painful death since 2015-ish, with no hopes of recovery. Enjoyable if you can find the right group of people to play with, but the free to play option is shit-tier, so you'd be paying a 15$ sub. There's also a very acquired kind of autism required to enjoy it.

And Elite is actually OK nowadays, not terrible, but not great by any means, you can skip the money grind with minimal effort, since mining is broken as fuck right now. But it is a grind and a half even outside of that, and it'll cost you around 15-16$ for the game and expansion. Requires less autism than EVE but the fun ceiling is also lower as a result.

There really are no good space games on the market. Eve has depth but is often clunky and full of fun taxes in the form of skill grind. Remember, you train skills in real time.

ED looks great but that's about the only positive aspect. Money is no concern anymore but you still need to grind endlessly for engineering materials and factiom reputation and once you've done that the game is essentially over. The development is so slow it might as well not exist at all.

>2460 saw a time of relative peace for the Commonwealth. Researched improved life, the ships sat in their dock yards waiting for the orders to set sail and Sidney still ruled from the Steel Halls of Unity.

>After a decade on inaction and building of 3 new full fleets, Sidney gave the order. The First Great Crusade against the Stellar League. One of it's members, The Djunn Union was on the south eastern part of the Commonwealth's borders. They would be a perfect first target.

>In little under 3 years and with very few ships lost, the empire was erased and it's territory seized.

>Sidney smirked at how easy it was for her will to be imposed upon the galaxy. It would soon become her domain and the other empires pushed out of the galaxy.

>A decade past of repairing ships, setting up new star-bases, building more Mega-Structures and generally making sure the Commonwealth functioned as intended.

>Some day in early 2490, Sidney received a communique. A subspecies of Yapathi, had been overthrown the United Nations of Earth after being allowed to live on Earth and declared themselves an independent nation.

>That Humans would allow Xenos to tread on their Homeworld. That they would allow them to gain independence. That they would allow them to build Habitats around the damn Sol System in an effort to expand their population. That the humans of the UNE would allow all of this to happen and not even attempt to regain the Homeworld.

>It's documented in Unity's history, that shortly after becoming God Empress, Sidney received a message from the UNE that caused a week long storm on Unity. This history now reflects that upon seeing earth ruled by an independent Xeno nation, her rage was so great that the storms that covered Unity, Anatasia I, Valerian II and Yu III lasted an entire month. That's when the people of the Commonwealth knew how displeased she was.

>Sidney sent passed along a simple communique to her Admirals and Generals.

<"It is time. Reclaim the Homeworld. Earth must know the Judgement of Unity."

>During the 2480's a weapon was created, one of such devastating power that the project was known only to Sidney and the upper echelons of Unity's command. With psychic power being a dominate feature of everyday life, so much so that people think their thoughts to each other rather than talk, Sidney had ordered her top scientists to develop a weapon capable of harnessing the collective psychic power of a species. This weapon was called the "Judgement of Unity" and it's first target would be Earth.

>Sidney announced the Second Great Crusade by declaring war upon the Stellar League with the goal of knocking out the UNE and recapturing Earth and a secondary objective taking territory in hostile another hostile empire so the Admirals have a clear path to destroy an ancient mining droid that was being set upon by League fleets.

>They managed to get there in time to salvage the nanite repair system from the destroyed bot. Now all attention was focused on Earth. After securing the hyperlanes into the Sol system, Judgement was ready for the heathens on Earth.

>Like a Damocles Sword, when anyone in the Northern Hemisphere looked up, they would see the subconscious light of an entire species about to assault them. It took 3 months for Judgement to fire but in those 3 months, the government collapsed, there was rioting in the street and Earth descended into chaos. All that ended when the beam of pure psychic energy hit Earth.

>The beam didn't just wash over the people, it infected every plant tinting it gold, became a golden shimmer in every dark corner, it bathed the world in a golden light in a way that hasn't been ever seen. Every being that day just stopped what they were doing, whether aliens beating up the local human population or humans running for salvation, everyone stopped like they had a lobotomy. It was then they acted in mass concert, aliens handed their guns over to the humans and both parties moved with stiff formation and formed parallel lines. The sounds of successive gunshots could be heard for days, even into the night.

>It was only after a full week of bloodshed did Roy Cairns descend with his 6 legions onto Earth. The Psysoldiers that make up each Legion reported back to their COs that they felt very calm despite the mass death around them. As if the presence of Sidney herself infected the entire planet. The Psysoilders burnt the alien bodies, recovered the guns from the humans entranced with golden eyes and performed triage on the worst injured. A communique from Sidney to Roy said to keep the Humans of Earth protected and sheltered for the meanwhile, as the effect of the Divine Touch would last for a few years. Once they were out of the Trance, they would be genetically modified using the template of Commonwealth Humans, then incorporated into the Commonwealth. They may have been wrong, but they were still human and thus worthy of salvation.

>And so the Second Great Crusade came to an end. Sidney has ordered the fleets back to their stations and new ones are to be raised to protect Earth so that no Xeno sets foot on it's soil ever again, even Cervanti are not permitted. Now all that remains is a decade of administrative work before the 10 year cease fire expires and the Third Crusade can begin.

Is there a good space game that really gives you the feel of the scale you're dealing with? Mayn strategy games showcase galaxy and have like a thousand systems in them, which doesn't really convey just how big (hundreds of billions of systems) the galaxy is. I know Elite:Dangerous does this, but it's not a good game, so I'm looking for something else. Doesn't need to have the whole galaxy and it doesn't need to have literally billions of stars, just something that shows how HUGE it is

Not a lot of upgrade for your dudes that you won't come unscathed from every battle. Unless you have a good shield and shield mod.

0220ae  No.16689445

>>16689278

Those aren't half-breeds. That's typically what a nigger looks like when they've been diluted down to 16-25% nigger. 16% is where most races get a coin flip between whether they'll look white or slightly like their 1 drop. 8% is typically where it starts to become very difficult for the average person to tell the difference. So I guess they're predicting a future where niggers have been almost bred out of existence by whites.

What am I? I can ask myself this question endlessly and still never come to a conclusion.

I swear existence has to be on purpose, something chose to put us here. The odds, the circumstances, space is impossible to comprehend for us.

We'll never get to see the bigger picture.

I daydream a lot that we're actually small, we could be the insides of quarks for matter in a much bigger world. The cycle is endless.

Everything is infinite and every piece of matter contains universes upon universes.

We are all so warped, we evolved to do such horrible things, sometimes it feels like we;re in hell. There are people at this very second being tortured to death. It's unfair, none of us asked to be human, to be at the mercy of our surroundings. Can we overcome this evil that plagues our consciousness or will it destroy us?

I often get these abstract emotions, filled with some odd sensation of nostalgia. They are faint pictures in my head that stir up a feeling of longing unlike anything I have ever felt before.

What is this? Why can't I escape this cage? I'm begging anyone, let me out. What did I do? What I have done to deserve this? I've always struggled with how my brain wants the world to be versus how it actually is.

Somewhere there is a perfect world, somewhere there is a place we can be happy. I stare into the ocean of black and pick out those shining stars, maybe home is far away and we can't be there anymore.

I miss home, wherever it is.

Similarly I also found this orbit.medphys.ucl.ac.uk/ which supposedly runs the real flight computers from the rockets in an emulator so you can be a real astronaut.

Then also there's Celestial Command which is like a regular space game but with orbital mechanics. It looks interesting and I'm tempted to give it a try but it's early access. Has any anon played it?

it is for the first hour, then you realize how shallow it actually is. it's highly dependent on the story which looks like you run out of quickly. after that, there are only 3 ships you can use which all seem too similar to eachother. you can upgrade components but there is no end-game after that except to continue to trade and do contracts which are nothing more than "take X to Y".

combat might be slightly more entertaining and there are bounty hunting contracts but it's still pretty shallow. load torp, fire torp, wait until enemy goes boom.

there is stealth aspect to the game, every module on the ship produces emissions, high emissions means enemies can detect you farther out, low emissions means they can't detect you at all. even this is shallow though, the only real emissions that matter is the reactor, because it produces 100x the emissions of anything else. this is also where the component upgrade metagame is, you can replace components and sub-components with modules meant for high efficiency, power or stealth, but there is no point to the other two (power/efficiency); and again the only thing that really matters is the reactor. You can go into this "emcon" mode, which basically just shut's shit off, but only the reactor really matters.

it seems like mods could fix it by replacing niggers with humans and adding more ships/components, but too much of this is the core gameplay. trading is a joke because there is no real economy, and even if you built up some kind of super stealth ship there would be nothing to do with it.

c9de03  No.16694507

>>16694497

compare this situation to X3 where there is certainly and end-game beyond "take X to Y" and acquire credits. Acquiring credits actually means something, you can build stations, more ships, and entire fleet, start fucking with NPC factions or with litcube start fighting an actual war.

imagine X3 with a slightly more complicated ship to operate, no actual combat beyond firing torpedos one at a time, you can only fly one ship and you can only choose out of 3, you can't build stations or build anything, there is no real economy (trading at one station does not affect anything else) and there is nobody to fight except random pirates, and nothing to protect except yourself anyway; and the galaxy is only 20 systems.

I'm putting an end to my playthrough of Stellaris as the Commonwealth. I just spent an hour microing stations, fleets and planets and the game crashed before I could save. I think me microing 350 planets and 700 stars is stretching the engine to the maximum. It's pretty laggy 300 years in and I've got a good look at the current content available. Last time I played I just took a cursory look at the game but now I did a 300 year playthrough and got to see 80% at least, even if it would take another 200 years before the mid game events take place.

Overall, it's not too bad, I appreciate this over other 4x games because you don't have to build on damn tiles and it incorporates alot of SINS mechanics I'm familiar with like galactic stockpiles, fleet upkeeps, trade routes, research and tech trees. That being said, Sins and SupCom have this mechanic where when the game gets put under a heavy load like that, ingame time will slow down so while 20 minutes pass in game an hour will pass real time. It is long but considering I play sometimes on a toaster it's appreciated, thing here is Stellaris isn't optimized for late game.

I'll probably check it out in another few years when some more content and optimization are put into it. Next time I play Commonwealth, smaller map, change years to about 200 years between midgame and end game stuff.

>microing 350 planets

I'm impressed you even got that far. Every time I play it always feels like the game is "over" by 2350. Playing past that is just waiting around for the crisis while the performance slowly degrades and very little is actually happening. If you do play again I'd highly suggest setting mid-game year to 2275 and end-game to 2300. That'll usually cause the crisis to spawn about 2350 and helps a lot to keep it interesting.

Fully recommending a yar of Genesis Alpha one. It's kind of bare bones, and might seem a little boring but wait until your crew members get sick with helix or you're caught with your pants down near an undetected pirate ship

Helix is a disease where a spider plants it's eggs in your crew members, and when head to their quarters sick they hack up all the eggs. I lost a whole floor during the last out break and half my crew since all the beds were on that floor

I would play Elite dangerous but Auto turrets are basically useless for PVP and PVE. That and you're expected to do engineer grinding if you want to be viable in pvp. If exploration were worthwhile and you could stumble across planets with fuckable aliens I that'd be neat. That or give you the freedom to walk around your ship.

It's pretty fun. Rogue-lite with a comic-book aesthetic. Boils down to a space-hobo simulator as you raid (mostly) abandoned ships for supplies, while working towards parts you need to advance the thing that resembles a story. Hopefully will get more content in the future because it's a pretty light game, so that means they can squeeze in more eventually. Only complaints is that enemies don't have actual 3d models, they have "sprites" that change based on with direction they're facing along eight ways. Hopefully they can add models in the future as well but it's not as much of an issue right now.

Not only does it look like shit, it makes my inner astronautical engineer scream. Never mind that in-game, you’re not going to be able to tell “raiders” from regular ships at meaningful distance if THIS is the visual distinction.

Working on building a heavy combat transport

Has two hangars on the back for launching fighters, and is protected from enemy fighters by its gun turrets.

Trouble is finding a place to fit all its generators and giving it enough thrust to support its heavy armored ass

2nd pic is a troop transport for colonial security. Its got a bit of armor and can fire rockets. The folding doors on the side protect its passengers from small arms fire and debris. Also working on a light vehicle transport version that just has a merge block for picking up certain vehicles.

Pretty slow. I'm doing scrap recovery contracts for the local stations with my new grabbing claw, and it pays alright. I think I should've played it with fluid space enabled (no orbital mechanics) first before moving on to proper vacuum, because it makes learning really difficult. I have noticed that it's possible to change the orbits of stations you're docked to, and, with perseverance, fling them into the asteroids. They don't seem to take collision damage.
