Old games are being sold at absurd prices. It's ridiculous how much cash is asked from a consumer for some old game.
In the case of contra we are talking about a game released in 1987. This is a 32 year old game now being sold at 20 euro dollars. Even if it is a pack of a bunch of games, it is still not reasonable.
How do buyfags justify buying into this ? You cannot even claim you support the dev, since the dev is either dead or working somewhere else. You would only be supporting the shitty publisher.
Explain this shit.

Anybody who wanted the roms, already has them, at this point the only people buying it are the ones willing to overpay for stuff like that.
It's not like they're going to do the reasonable thing and just sell the roms outright. Hell Sega BARELY was convinced to do it with the promise of more Sonic Mania type devs, and even then it's just their Steam collection in a decompressed format.

Then we can go onto remasters and HD versions. How much is it justifiable ? I get that there is some work done on the product, but it is being taken too far. AoE2 now has a normal, HD and will very soon have a definitive edition. All priced relatively high.
These are games with barely existing communities and these no longer developers but rather publishers are actively splitting what little is left of the communities in them. I don't see the starcraft 1 community surviving, nor the AoE1-2 community surviving a new game.

Because soulless NPCs only have products to try (and fail) to define them, as they have literally nothing else. No mind, no soul, no personality. No individuality. No self-awareness. No self-thought. Nothing. They buy something for a large amount of money, and show to everyone while saying: "See this? I wasted big money on this. That means that i am big too." Or: "See this? You like this. And i bought it. So i am the same as you now". That is literally it.
As always, be a sane person: pirate everything, and never compensate anyone. Let the mindless cattle waste their money, while you get everything for free.
8c8108 No.16600307
Assuming they have to charge something, how much should they charge per game? Does it depend on the game, the console? What is the cut-off age? At what point does a game have to drop in price?
Should an NES rom cost 99 cents? Should an SNES rom cost 1.99? Should a PS1 iso cost 2.99? Should a game from 2016 drop in price? What about a game from 2014? If so, by how much? Should it be 20 bucks? I'm interested in seeing what anons actually think would be fair other than "every game should be free, fuck you".
Game age is irrelevant to me, as long as the quality holds up. I'd have no problem paying 20 bucks for a physical copy of Deus Ex, simply because 20 is the most I am willing to pay for a game and it's one of my favorite games ever. But fuck me if I'm ever gonna drop even five bucks on Sonic Mania.

If we are assuming that the games won't be shit then:
20 bucks for major new releases
5-10 for new indies
A rerelease is free to all who own the original copy, 10$ otherwise, unless it's from three generations ago, then it should be 5$.
A remaster is 75% off for those who own the original. 15$ otherwise.
A remake can be priced the same as a new game.
After twenty years have passed, the copyright on the game wears off and the developers are obliged to release the source code and the game becomes part of public domain.

I think the same. however I wouldn't buy that because none of the original devs will actually see a single shekel of my purchase and squeenix doesn't care about deus ex so I don't care about supporting them financially.
2cc303 No.16600912
If it was priced reasonably ($5 per game, tops) they risk selling a bunch more copies, which would spread them to an audience that doesn't know about the wonders of emulation, and ultimately prove that old games are more desirable than new ones (maybe because they're better? shit i dunno). Of course (((the industry))) knows this and won't shoot itself in the feet.
With this pricing they make about the same profit from the few zoomer idiots who still remember these games and cannot operate a computer, while selling fewer copies so they can point and say "see! old games are dead. buy the latest stuff, goy".
I'd like to see a remaster of some 10-ish year old "classic" in the same conditions as these to see which sells more. But you know that a remaster of, say, DmC would be preceded by months of commercials, manufactured outrage, etc, so you just can't make that kind of comparison in this timeline.

There are "gamers" out there who apply politics to the medium wholesale. I don't mean SJWs specifically, I mean people who buy games as a form of activism. They bought fully into the "vote with your wallet" meme to the point where they buy games just to feel like they're making some kind of greater difference in the world. It sounds unbelievable, but just read article or forum comments for any remaster or rerelease which is poorly or arguably poorly done. Best recent example is Seiken Densetsu 3 not having any of the crippling bugs fixed. I read many comments which said "Yeah sucks they didn't fix the bugs, but I'm going to buy the game anyway because Square Enix needs to bring more games to the west." The problem here is that the purchaser can't possibly know how a marketer will interpret that data, and they usually do it incorrectly. They might think "We can get away with selling remasters of buggy games as long as we localize them" or "we can sell SNES games for $40." The fact that these retards want to be a part of a marketing data set because they feel validated is disgusting.

Is this game just the collection of Contra games with the usual emulation benefits, or are there any extras? If it's just the games with no special features then yeah the game's a bit overpriced.

>I don't miss having to fuck around with CDs at all. I'll take my archive HDDs full of vidya every day of the week over that.
This anon gets it. DRM-free digital > physical disks. Much easier to store, backup, and share.
I've gone through and created ISOs from all my old disks as well, so now I can play them by just mounting the ISO to a virtual drive. Loading times are much faster and my computer runs much more quietly without the disk drive spinning.

I thought you were going on a retarded rant, but then I remembered anons were shilling the Blood "remaster" to hell and back while pissing on the free reproductions available (even though those reproductions did a far better job at it.) So yeah, you got a point.

Besides that, Physical supports deteriorates over time. I remember that a well stored CD or DVD can last not more than 20 or 25 years before the polymers start deteriorating making it unreadable.

Love GOG for this. Just throw the game on a USB stick or upload it to the cloud.

It came out in 98, PC gaming was still mostly constricted to adults and kids who weren't completely braindead. Tell me why that isn't a good enough metric now.

I honestly would have bought that on the switch if it had shattered soldier in it. But I assume that would have required effort on Konami's part, so of course not.

Strictly speaking, they ALL used redbook audio on the PS2 version. Capcom was too lazy to actually emulate the SNES's audio on the PS2.

If a game is old enough to have sex. There's literally no reason to not just be able to get it for free tbh.
Remasters shouldn't be sold at full price. It's just pandering to nostalgiafags. But a remake can be allowed to be sold for some shekels if it's good.
