Witcher 3 uses some musical motifs from 1 (that were sadly missing in 2) and you get to visit Kaer Morhen again, but this time in an open world setting and frankly it was relaxing as fuck to wander that countryside freely.

The combat is about the same, which is to say shit, but it's workable. You just have to keep in mind that the most important trait in combat encounters is your level. If an enemy is even a couple of levels above you on Death March difficulty you'll get one-shot. I fucking hate level scaling that works like that.

The main quest is boring wank, but the side-quests and the monster contracts are fun. The DLC main stories are also much more fun than the base game's main quest, and better written.

They dumbed down the actual preparation though, and now you can drink potions on the fly without even an animation that gives your enemy an opening, so it feels less like being a Witcher and more like just being an below average ARPG in combat.

I really do love open worlds and just wandering around and exploring though.

Well, they double down on the combat in Witcher 3. Its definitely better, but I can't remember if it has that random attack issue that 2 had. For some its a deal breaker, but I feel RPGs can kind of get away with wonky and mediocre aspects of the game, as they are more about complete packages.

Its by far the less linear seeing as its open world and damn near every quest has at least two outcomes/choices.

Neutrality was something they specifically designed for in 1 but you can turn some quests down that are clearly picking a side. You will spend nearly the entire game alone.

Side quests are honestly the best part of the game now but are truly side content and have nothing to do wit the main quest.

Fist fighting is tied to the combat properly now, so its just the same as the sword combat. Magic is buffed up and changed but I think Quen is still supreme.

Most of my experience is playing 2020 with the nerds in college but from what I've been told its a weird post-cyberpunk, post-apocalyptic civilization collapse and the world has fallen into several factions or cults with their own unique tech.

The rules are worse than 2020, while it may have fixed a few quirks from the previous edition it introduced worse ones in their place.

I think around the time he wrote it was when the transhumanism meme was starting to take off and wanted to make an absolute worst case scenario for it.
