The fact that Square Enix is more interested in remaking older games instead of making XVI suggests that they have no faith in any new ideas. Looking at VII Remake, they can't even adapt their old ones properly without fucking something up. The only thing I want to see Square make is a file for "Chapter 7".

Neither game needs to be remade. Look at what Final Fantasy was when those came out. Look at what it is now. IX was the last true Final Fantasy. That was, what, ten years ago? FF has been fucked ever since. The FFVII remake will probably feature action RPG gameplay (If I wanted that I'd be playing secret of mana instead), double down on the SJW elements the plot always had and the only argument to sell this thing will be that it has current graphics. Do yourself a favor and dig out your old PS1 and play the originals. Or the PC version of FFIX, the high res thing is kinda nice and being able to fast forward turns the combat system from being slow and tedious into really fun combat because at heart it's the last step in the evolution of the FF ATB system, combined with more classic rpg mechanics than the predecessors had. It just needs to be speeded up to be appreciated.

I'd argue that FFX still felt like Final Fantasy even if its world and how the game flowed were already gimped (which is funny since for a chunk of time FFIX and FFX were being developed in parallel). Anything after that was garbage – but I'm frankly not surprised since the premise behind Final Fantasy as the series has always been throwing ideas at the market and seeing what formula sticks with customers.
The formula peaked in fourth generation, fifth generation added a nice framing to it by using 2d backgrounds and then it went shit once hardware was capable of pushing enough polygons to produce fully realtime graphics (but consuming budget and resources)

Agreed, but compare how much more flavor there is to FFIX's world compared to FFX's Spira. Sure, the latter is almost entirely focused on Yuna's story (it's not Tedious', despite his delusions) and you're supposed to feel like a stranger to it, but I remember getting X fresh after finishing IX and it didn't impress me in the story area at all.
I miss fourth gen Final Fantasies, even the entries with relatively shitty story had more to them than modern games.
