I started playing Dawn of War 2 Chaos Rising after finishing the main campaign long time ago. The Chaos Rising campaign have the corruption gimmick.

I was wondering, should I let the corruption overtake me? And I mean, there's obviously benefits if I do, but what if I don't? It is possible to finish the campaign without being corrupt?

It's not that difficult to without doing so.

Benefits of going the corruption route is the new corrupted abilities and corrupted wargear.

Benefits of staying pure is a few really powerful pure wargear but only towards the end of the game and the pure trait / ability thing. Also you get a better ending but who gives a shit what slideshow you get at the end.

Corrupted is generally going to be more fun and have more options for interesting builds but pure path has some of the most overpowered builds but not as much variety.

I'd say play both with corrupted first.

Theres one skill that is broken and will either ruin your experience or make the game a thousand times better depending on if you like to abuse mechanics or not.

The last trait in the Will tree for the force commander is broken. It should reduce energy cost of abilities for a set amount of time but it actually does so infinitely and it also stacks. Meaning if you use it 3-4 times with all squadmates close to forcecommander all of their energy using abilities will cost 0. This only works for the initial activation cost though not abilities that drain energy.

If you like abusing mechanics I'l reveal a few cool combinations.

Using the bug mentioned above its a good idea to make use of other peoples Will trees in a way that causes shit to be energy cost activated instead of relying on resupply boxes. One very nice synergy with this is Cyrus as his explosives are crazy powerful and with the bug you have an unlimited supply. Hes basicly a walking apocalypse at that point. Same with jonah really, you can just spam the everloving shit out of his fireball and shatter earth to kill pretty much anything thats not a tank. I think pure Cyrus also has energy activated stimulant kit meaning infinite heals too.

You also lose out on the Davian Thule and multimelta sweep of absolute assrape when you go chaos, which removes everything targetable like a dream. There's no obligation to go full chaos: corrupt a member or two of your squad whose wargear you find interesting, but leave Cyrus and FC pure for some dreadnought action.

If you get used to Cyrus and his clearing everything without breaking stealth, you're going to have a real painful time with the final boss.

Nah the corruption mechanic is really gay story wise and even if you make everyone 100% corrupt you can't defect to chaos and still have to kill the traitor.

I tried playing DOW2 and I'd usually get three missions in before I realize all I'm doing is setting up heavy bolters and using tacmarines to flank, and it couldn't be more boring. Is that really all the game has to offer?

>Is that really all the game has to offer?

Sadly, yes. The lack of variety of squads and the fact that you can only get 4 squads into a mission really fuck it up. You are not at risk of losing whole sqauds, you lose units, and the most important part of the squad is the leader, which sucks, furthermore, the squads are too small compared to DoW1.

People say that DoW 2 is more close to the tabletop, but I couldn't care less, DoW is a better game. Multiplayer maps are different, though, you can make more squads and have different strategies, but story mode is almost a diablo like game.

It gets better around lvl 10 when you actually have some options in terms of skills and wargear.

Chaos rising is much better in that sense too.
