Semi-related, am I the only one who presses space with my left thumb instead of my right? I can alternate if I think about it, but I always default to my left thumbs.

I'm the same way. Typing class in school covered everything except my right ring and pinky fingers, so I type with only everything else. Just use one of those children's typing programs to get you up to speed.

I use a combination of my left thumb and right index finger depending on which is doing what with the keys. It's so second-nature that even when I'm deliberately paying attention to it I often miss the press and it took me a couple sentences to even realize I was using both. The way I position my hands my left is basiacally in WASD position with the pinky on shift and thumb on space, while the right hand is much further off the keyboard with the thumb basically hugging the edge of the desk. My right index finger seems to rest on N, middle on K and ring on L, the right pinky floats and is often a full inch above the keyboard.

I just discovered Epistory Typing Chronicles last week. It's pretty cute. Fairly casual compared to other typing games though. The story/narrative/world building is similar to Bastion.

When I was in middle school i discovered some college tier typing program that I used for fun to learn how to type properly. Today I casually type 90 wpm without even thinking about it. When I take those online typing tests I typically hit 110 wpm as well. Everyone around you always thinks you're crazy for being that good at pushing buttons. sage for double post.

The only typing instruction I received as a child was one week of going to the classroom with computers for an hour at a time. Absolutely uninformative and no proper habits were enforced. I typed like a retard until I completely retaught myself to type the right way later in high school (I also changed how I gripped a pencil, which was also shit). It took a couple months to break down and rebuild the muscle memory, but it was worth it. School was a mistake. I'm practicing writing with my right hand now too, is that too autistic?

Typeracer is all that comes to mind. Ignore speed at first and focus on accuracy, since speed will come naturally as you improve. Just the act of typing will serve as practice as long as you're doing things right.

You're shifting goalposts there. "average" typing is somewhere closer to 20-25, maybe lower depending on how low you set the bar among normalfags who never touched a computer. Even among more computer literate people, 60 is reasonably fast for people who aren't professional typists in some capacity.

I only use my left thumb. My right thumb is seemingly idle all the time, I think that's because I played too much CS 1.6 where my left hand is used for WASD, Q, E, space, control and shift. By this point it's unbreakable habit.

I think the stranger thing is that despite being right handed I primarily only use my index and middle fingers for typing on my right with occasional use of the ring finger for backspace and apostrophes, but my entire hand goes to use on the left. I think using Dvorak, Colemak or some other alternative layout would generally be more productive for me. That, or just getting an actual ISO/ANSI/UK keyboard instead of the weird fucked up east euro language keyboard that I have.

Learn a new layout so you can relearn the basics properly. Dvorak, or Programmer Dvorak, either works. And they are both much more efficient (naturally better WPM) and less straining on your hands due to better key placement. All the most common characters are in the home row, for example (AOEUIDHTNS), and punctuation is much closer so you don't have to strain your fingers to do a comma or period.
