I am worried and expecting the worst kind of monkeys paw. Its maybe my favourite game ever and its suspiciously absent from any release calendars beyond "sometime" and i wonder if the shitty switch online mess is to blame.

Best of the Switch games would be nice.

I recently bought a switch and i am curious what games would be awesome to play on it.

I've gotten already Xenoblade 2, and planning on end of the month importing DOAX3 Scarlet.

And i geuss at some point i'll also buy Zelda BotW.

But i wonder if there any good grand strategy games on it of any decent complexity.

I don't get why they do this so much. You'd think they'd allocate resources to a project and when it starts to consume more than it needed they'd just freeze it or push up deadlines until another project finishes and more resources become available. Instead they move people and money around like they're working on a massive sliding block puzzle and it just makes the big picture look like shit.

Working on the next, big MMO to come after 11 as well as other big projects? Better pull the best talent to work on Crystal Tools. Final Fantasy 13 is massively over budget and underpinning in sales? Better cannibalize Chrono Break and Valkyrie Profile 4 so we can re-use assets rather than make new ones.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if the 7 remake is a massive drain on all their other projects.

Because once they've invested a certain amount, finishing (or perhaps "finishing") it so it can release and start making some money back becomes a priority? Only, since it's nowhere near done even by that point, it becomes a fucking money pit between engine costs, development, shilling, etc. Also I'd guess that they're used to thinking they can dump absurd amounts of money into a game and have a good turn around, and FFXIII and XV haven't taught them enough of a lesson there.

They actually learned it with 14 as well. Or they should have since that means its a mistake they've repeated three times over. In the No Clip documentary for 14, one of the factors that lead to 1.0's demise was the different teams trying hard to be artisans with no perspective of the game as a whole. For example; a simple barrel with flowers on it had more shaders than a player character and those barrels were placed everywhere. Another was self-admitted hubris. "It was Final Fantasy, it couldn't fail."

There was plenty more to be sure, but those two in particular can apply to the rest of their mistakes.

Honestly? the game is basically diablo meets a party game. Different dungeons with different loot tables. If they kept releasing new dungeons as dlc i would probably be interested. Stuff like the town where its caravan never returned is one of my all time favourite rpg locations.

Solo is kinda tedious. It feels lonely, because the world is barren and fucked up, it always gives me a nostalgia vibe because of it, but otherwise you can perfectly finish it by yourself.

As multiplayer, one player always needs to carry the chalice. I hope they implement the moggle in multiplayer now, or give you reasons to carry the chalice. I actually never played on multiplayer

No. The game is definitely meant to be played multiplayer. Solo play is serviceable if you have 0 friends or otherwise get more enjoyment out of playing alone than you should, but the 4-way couch-op can't be beat.

Can you use combo magic when playing alone? I can't remember.

you can. The moggle can drop the chalice and use magic if you focus the magic circle on him.

I like playing it solo. You do need to make multiple characters to fill out your village in order to get good equipment and items though.

The main problem with CC is that isn't properly balanced for 2 players. It's perfectly balanced for 1 player and for 3 or 4 players, but with only two you're kind of screwed. One of you has to carry the chalice around which prevents that person from doing anything else while they're holding it and you can't spell fuse up to max power with only two players.

Sort of. You can fuse materia/rings in your inventory to achieve level 2 and level 3 spells.
