Alright you fucking faggots. Let's see this stream and hope to god they punch intel the fuck up, they're already getting shafted with their processor exploits and sky high prices.

This new line of SKU's has generated the biggest amount of excitement since the i7 series launch which was a decade ago, what the fuck

Hoping for something juicy.

Always. We're getting a 9900k refresh with 5ghz boosts on all cores, and they're guaranteed to slash prices leading up to Ice Lake. Presumably we'll see something similar from Nvidia, since they haven't really had any competition in gaming since the 10 series launched.

When there's real competition, and I'm optimistic that this wasn't a bunch of bullshit artistry, the consumer wins. Overall not bad at all, solid 8/10, but maybe next time bring out some bugmen that can speak human.

>increased frequencies give higher IPC results

IPC = instruction per cycle

Frequency = cycle per seconds

Increasing frequency does have a effect on IPC but it's usually a decrease once you push clocks too far, and also usually trying to increase the IPC of an arch without killing the frequency is really hard and the only reason Zen does so is because the shitty GloFo process was made for 3Ghz mobile devices in mind whereas the new 7nm one is made for high performance first and foremost and although past the point of optimal efficiency is supposed to be able to handle 5ghz, you'll have to wait for someone to leak OCed bench or for the actual reviews to come out to get a proper idea of the capabilites of the new process but going by what the Radeon VII did vs VEGA 56/64 you can be cautiously optimistic

> AMD is aiming for a power efficiency angle

This I agree with, basically what I think / hope AMD is doing is delivering a product that's performant enough ouit of the box but geared towards efficiency first not balls to the walls close to it's limit like the first two Ryzen series; although it's still possible there's a complete frequency wall which would kinda suck but whatever even if the consumer grade silicon can't hit more than 4.6-4.7 it's still enough to make anything intel irrelevant when you considering power/thermal constraints and efficiency. of their newer CPUs

Although you could explain the downgrade of the consumer range products from the supposed leaks by simply looking at the server market right now, good 6-8 core dies are going to be pricier in a server CPU than a consumer one and they don't really have enough dies to go around (see TR getting removed from slides)so AMD literally has no reason to not do it if the shit dies are enough to beat intel, which also means that down the line those consumer CPUs might get much better despite sporting the same name

>>16511849

From my experience with NF4 SLI chipsets which ran pretty hot at the time (50-80°C range), I don't remember how much they pulled but they were often actively cooled by some horrible 4cm fan active cooling was barely enough if you did have a fully loaded computer with 2 GPU and RAID on and a slight HT overclock, latter Nforce chipset had massive heatsinks like pic related instead which weren't super practical so yeah I'd assume it's easier to have a fairly flat chipset with a fan, although the chipset supposedly only heats up when you do RAID with M2 SSDs

I'm not necessarily talking about desktops (which only account for a fraction of sales from these companies), rather server and data center CPUs. Amazon, Apple, Google and other tech giants have reportedly been dropping Intel hardware for more power efficient options i.e. ARM. Intel Aviv is fucked if they can't keep these server contracts.

The future of gaming hardware is going to be lapping up the dregs of mega-corporations. Why else would Nvidia have put practically useless (and expensive) ai tensor cores into their RTX line, from their failed venture into self-driving cars, instead of using the die space for more CUDA cores or DRAM? One can hate on AMDs GCN architecture but at least HMB2 delivers practical results i.e. power efficiency and bandwidth.

I rather the premium I pay for going to proper chipset and vrm cooler than rgb tax and plastic shrouds. Similarly, buying a new phone forces you to subsidies the cost of extra components like biometric sensors, additional camera sensors that the mainstream consumer expects but doesn't necessary use.

Isn't AMD down to 5nm now? Is it even possible to get smaller then that with decent high-production yields?

My current setup is over 5-6 years old and really need an upgrade. I'm just internally debating whether going for the 3900X, for that extra 5ish% IPC and 50% more cores is actually worth it. I'm probably going to cheap out on the GPU because the market is shit anyway. Ideally would go for a hypothetical 2070ti equivalent with a proper amount of VRAM and decent price, although thats probably not going to happen.

But wouldn't those roadmaps be predicated on Intel being on 10nm by now? Zen 2+ with AM4 socket next year would be an easy way to milk the market while Intel has their face in the mud.

TSMC's foundry (who AMD outsource manufacturing to) is down to 7nm which is supposedly equivalent to 10nm Intel silicon, which they cant currently mass produce because yields are poor.

I thought AMD was using GlobalFoundries, not TSMC

tl;dr: AMD and GloFo amended their agreement to let AMD contract work to any foundry that produces 7nm after GloFo gave up on it

Disappointing, still better Taiwan then some commie mainland Chink foundry

I don't think the mainland has any x86 foundries worth a damn.

Pretty sure the yield for Zen2 dies were like 70%and that the issue was simply that there's not enough wafers for everyone

what do you mean

i think he meant that intels 10nm yields are poor.

I mean yields are the by far biggest advantage of chiplet based processors.
