It's a very simple and repetitive gameplay loop, but it's made enjoyable by the objectives that give you upgrade options when you complete them, like killing three tanks in one run, or building your combo multiplier to a certain level.

The only major barrier to playing games on PC is a GPU. Emulation only relies on the CPU most of the time. I enjoy my switch and prefer to buy multiplats for it when the option exists, but even I will admit that PC is the smartest investment overall.

there's always the possibility, however, make sure you backup your NAND before booting CFW, use something like 90DNS or incognito (incognito is probably a safer bet as you don't have to rely on someone who could at any point fuck up the whole DNS and get hundreds banned)

depends, on horizon (the switch's OS) it's relatively good, NES, SNES, Genesis and shit like that to my knowledge run relatively flawless, N64 is kinda case by case basis but they mostly work fine, PSX is also quite good as well. There's then other OSes, like Lakka and Ubuntu, dolphin works relatively well on both, however there is still a fuck ton of room for improvement but it looks hopeful, no PS2 really, there is one for ubuntu but it's really shitty to my knowledge, anything beyond isn't really possible for the time being, most man power is being devoted to dolphin as of this moment, if you have any other questions anon feel free to ask

MHGU is the last Monster Hunter game ever made, and it got a nice HD treatment on the Switch. Well worth playing if you've never played MH, hell it's worth playing if you have played MH. Hollow Knight is probably one of the best metroidvanias ever made. Dragon's Dogma is one of the best WRPGs ever made, and they even ported the PC version to Switch instead of the PS3 version.

Both of my vitas were from 2015 and I got them last year in a 'like new' condition in box for 130 USD. They worked fine, but in terms of used vitas, like the fat launch models, they work fine, and if anything is broken, its very easy to replace something. I would go for either a fat 3g model, where you can mod a bigger battery and replace the sim card slot with an sd card slot, or the slim model in a box with good condition.

I got bored of botw after beating it and collecting enough turds to max out my inventory slots and beating all quests, etc. and smash doesn't really interest me anymore.
I've yet to beat Octopath traveller, but I'm hitting 9999 damage a turn and I've only just started hitting the characters 2nd story parts so now I'm not sure if I'm interested in seeing this all the way through now that there's nothing left to see combat wise.
Splatoon 2 lost interest for me at some point, I just want to play the game, not grind for optimal perks so that I can play the game on a level playing field. Plus the difficulty of turf wars seem to range from impossible to laughably easy with no inbetween.
I bring out mario party when someone comes over but the lack of mechanics on the boards combined with the concept that everyone gets money to account for people who can't play mario party leaves the experience feeling all fluff no substance, not to mention the lack of minigame variety.
This leaves me with monster hunter genu, which I have no one I know to play with because they're all still on 3ds, and/or refuse to buy into the internet scam, and I don't fancy playing it on my own because at that point I'd rather play FU.
I guess I'm waiting for animal crossing or sword and shield, although I have low hopes for the latter considering the shitshow that was s&m.
Anything else I want I can torrent on PC.

The battle system gets old really fast as enemies just become massive HP sponges and take forever to kill. The Pacing is terrible too. It's pretty neat. I just updated my Atmosphere CFW so I could use title redirection for launching Retroarch with full ram. You just hold down the R button while launching any installed game and it launches Homebrew Loader instead, then from there you can launch Retroarch with full ram. Another benefit is if you accidentally hit the home button it doesn't kill Retroarch. You can actually get back to it. The old method of launching Retroarch would just kill it outright if you hit the home button. I mostly emulate SNES or NES, but I have Gameboy, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advance, Sega Genesis, PC Engine, Playstation and now Nintendo 64 games on there.
So I gave N64 emulation a try, changed resolution to 720p for the Switch screen and it looked pretty good. The problems are some occasional hitching, loading up Mario 64 was a bit slow (black screen for a while before I saw the title), save states don't work and there are slowdowns. It seems like the hitching issue goes away over time, but there are still some slowdowns. I raced Koopa the Quick and the biggest slowdown was trying to get into that hole the ball rolls out of. I could fuck with the settings, but I don't think it's going to get much better. Apparently you can overclock or underclock the Switch in Retroarch's settings and it messes with the clocks a bit by default so maybe I could squeeze more out of it there, but I don't know.
For Atmosphere CFW I actually have sys-clk which changes the clocks when running certain games to get more performance like with BotW when you're in the Korok village.

It's really a matter of preference. If you're on the go, the joycons attached to the console work pretty well for what they are. I wouldn't use split joycons, though. Get something like a pro controller if you're attaching it to the TV.

Retroarch has netplay. I tested it with Super Mario World and the controls set up automatically. Not sure about other cores. You just need to remember that the default username is set to your IP address, so you'll probably want to change it under Settings > User.

Apparently the clocks actually do help. In the Retroarch menu you can set CPU clocks to Boost, High and Maximum. The High setting was enough to play Mario 64 without slowdowns or hitching. I had the Switch plugged in so I don't know what that's going to do to the battery life and I assume the default clock was the Docked cpu clock. Still no save states with N64 although people say not to use save states on N64 emulation because they can fuck things up anyways.

Seems OK so far but I'm playing it very slowly haven't even made it out of Midgar yet. The Spanish translation is fucking horrible and the German one isn't great either. 3x mode is nice to get through the "attack, attack, attack" grind faster. Playing with the joycon is a bit weird since the game was originally designed for d-pad, so sometimes the directions are a bit off from where you'd want to go on diagonals. You can also switch the language without restarting your game, just have to change the system language and restart the game and you can continue your existing save.
