Honestly, it's looking decent. Most of the changes we saw today seemed like they were based off of player feedback over the course of Stormblood. (i.e. PLD's lack of gap closer, MCH wildfire/gauss barrel, DRK's DA spam, DRG Jump animation lock, etc.)
They've managed to trim down on hotbar space by consolidating pet abilities into single actions, and it seems like some powers swap based on what you're doing. (i.e. Dancer's attack buttons are replaced with dance keys when they trigger a dance, and come back when the dance is done)
From the aesthetic standpoint, a lot of the power effects seem to have improved, ranging from minor tweaks (RDM) to major changes (AST). Noticed that some of the new AF gear has clothing bits that are using the improved physics we got on the Spriggan Jacket, and my time messing around on the benchmark made me think that long hairs are now more responsive to armor and head motion. Also several classes got kickass effects like NIN's clones, DRK's shadow copy, and MCH's robot.
Lastly, don't trust any numbers you see on the tooltips in the vids, they are not final by any means and can be changed up to the day 5.0 goes live.

Nerfed BRD because they can't have another job compete with the New™ buff job. I was a bit unclear because the translator was mumbling under her breath when she said it but it sounds like DRG got a major nerf that they are going to spin into a buff by "changing" the jump system. MCH looks like it will finally be unfucked and usable. BLM got a pretty big sustain buff. RDM got it's balance bar nerfed which is going to change the way the entire job approaches dungeons. DRK looks like it is might be able to compete with PLD and WAR. Gunbreaker is going to be ATE tank, obviously. They are really pushing healers into HEAL ONLY despite giving WHM Holy 2 and a black rose to go with the lilies. SUM and SCH are getting a complete rework to the summoning system including no cast time summons. AST is getting a complete rework which makes me a little nervous. I forget most of the rest I was sort of out of it when I watched.

They basically lost an entire hour to audio tech issues at the start of the stream. Microphones weren't working, then they couldn't get the game audio running on its own audio channel, then vid related happened.
Eventually they just stuck a microphone in front of their computer's speakers and used that for the entire stream. At one point further in the translator's microphone died and we missed part of the explanation of BRD and SMN's changes.
The whole fired thing is because pic related was coincidentally up on SE's job page.

Dualcast begins to mean shit when you literally lose you god damned balance bar if you move. It takes for ever to fucking build that thing up and set up for combo so you kite around the fight dodging everything while setting up for two seconds and casting. That's the rhythm. Take that away and you are just a shitty low potency DPS with a couple of rezs in you and the chance that you might might be able to knock out a combo if you stand around long enough.
At that point you are literally a superfluous character to your party. You will never heal as well as a healer and your mana drains way to fast to be useful beyond a few rezes at a time. You can't cast for shit because your dualcast spam is inferior to any real DPS. It's nerfed job. RDM is functionally over for ShB. Some new fucking combo doesn't matter for shit since it is just going to be dependent on the balance bar too.
So yeah going to have to spend at least a month leveling and playing each of the reworked classes hoping they aren't shit and probably not finding one as fun as RDM was.

I went back and watched the Red Mage footage. I'll give you this much: the translator girl did say the gauge would deplete while you move. But I watched the footage itself and Yoshi-P moved around quite a bit without the gauge depleting. He also ran from the two weed monsters he killed to the treant monster for nine seconds without the gauge depleting. The only thing that actually drained the gauge was using the melee combo.
It wouldn't be the first time she messed up translating what was being said, either. But if you don't believe me, the time for the start of the Red Mage segment is 1:30:43 on the Twitch recording.

In all honesty though the dungeons isn't the bad part with some exceptions, the trials can sometimes take a bit depending on the time of day because generally people don't queue for the trials you need.
But also in all seriousness FFXIV is the most new user unfriendly mainstream MMO. The catchup mechanic doesn't matter because you're more hamstrung by the awful mandatory quests that are filled with sub time padding. If you belt them out it only takes about a week. But if you actually you know, do anything but autistically belt them out, it can take a long time.

So to summarize the changes, tanks and DPSes are from ok to pretty good. Lots of skills that address the complaints of players, Gunbreaker seems very fun to play, lots of interesting utility for classes, and if they some like SMN and MCH seem much more fun to play that their SB versions. Main complain is that DRK now is a bit too similar to WAR (which seen to be still the king of tanks seeing how good their new utility skill is and how big its DPS seems to be still), and DNC maybe will be too good getting so many buffs and BRD losing some of theirs (although their new change make it do more DPS and still more fun). Really pretty good in that department in general, let see how it performs in the full release.
But healers have been gutted to hell and back. WHM is mostly the same, no Aereo III, but atleast lilies seem somewhat useful, but SCH has been destroyed. All their DPS skills are gone but 3, fairy's embrace nerfed yet again. AST card mechanics completely changed can't say if is it for the better. Now all cards do the same thing, except some buff melee more, others buff ranged dps more, while giving you seals to use for new spells. The healers are now more similar than ever all while being less interesting to play. The only saving grace is the possibility that now damage is going to be so high we would had to be very active with our healing. And that still leaves the question about how "fun" running old content as healer will be. Perhaps they will be changed down the line.

I would say that SCH is more then likely going to get a triage down the line, similar to how HS warriors got home-run slammed with the nerf bat, but were buffed super hard later on. AST changes are overall for the better, since now half your deck is completely worthless and you aren't relying so heavily on RNG. The reason for the removal of emniity combos is both to reduce button bloat, and to simplify tanking. There are many tanks who are shitters even in dungeons and can't hold aggro for dear life cause the refuse to use the right combo, are to slow to react when they lose aggro or straight up just doesn't know how to generate enough to keep monsters on him even on Shield Stance, and cannot use oGCD defensive skill properly to save his life and I would know, as I play with a friend that has all 4 of those problems, we need to go almost always as ninja with him to help him out with aggro issues. With the addition of shielding and support skills, plus the innate 20% damage reduction and the new interrupt mechanics, which will be handle by tanks and range DPS, it open the doors for a more active and involved tanking without sacrificing your DPS. Now all tank should support, interrupt and has more powerful defensive tools, while theoretically should alleviate the issues of shitters in dungeons and giving the rest of us an easier time. Of course, this is in general a big "if", as it really depends on how SE handles content design from now on. All seems to indicate that damage is going to be pretty high, if the changes for both healers and tanks is anything to go by, hell, even DPS classes are receiving more healing skills (SMN phoenix, DNC healing, RDM vercure), but if the fights are like they are now, then all changes will be wasted.

The only reason to have a speed reduction on RoF is to use an OGCD and a Chakra during a single action, since you're still limited to five and you're going to have random procs coming in during Brotherhood. They are removing the Fist requirements of Riddles, so you'll be using FoF only before getting your fourth stack - once you do, the fourth stack will provide more damage so there will be no reason to swap out of FoW. You'll still use it while under RoF and Brotherhood. In other words, it's the same old shit, where in order to optimize your damage you're going to be spending over a fifth of your time slowed down, waiting for random procs to roll in. Only thing they're really adding is a full AoE rotation, an AoE 'Forbidden Chakra', and a way to stand still and conserve your GL.

Never tried Blue Mage, wasn't really that interested, but Eureka was a tedious nightmare.
Out of all the newer systems, I liked the Doman Enclave Restoration, since although it was just phasing, it was kind of cool to see it get rebuilt. Which is kind of a problem since it is the bare minimum of time investment.
One system I would like them to steal would be from LOTRO, the skirmish system in that was fun. You could attach it to the Grand Companies for glamour gear and what not. The only issue is they'd have to fix the Squadrons retarded AI. I don't think it is the most indepth thing, but at least they could make it into a spectacle with cooling looking battle set pieces like Ghlymt Dark style warzones.

Ignore any talk about potencies or damage numbers until release day comes. Everything up until then is subject to change, and as history shows us, SE will change classes as needed to address potency issues if need be.
WAR basically gets Bloodbath called Nascent Flash back now (life drain on hit) but it's not quite the same and requires an ally. It's their "OT assist" skill, reducing damage taken by the target by 10% and healing them for 50% of the healing you yourself are getting, which is stated as "restoring HP" every time an attack lands. How much that will end up being I have no idea, but you can easily slap Nascent Flash on a dps in a 4-man and probably get some good aoe tanking/self-healing numbers akin to the old BB+OP spam.
Inner Beat and Fell Cleave are basically one skill now, with FC being an upgrade to IB at 54, and Infuriate will get a passive granting a stack of "Nascent Chaos" which boosts your Fell Cleave to a as of the NDA being lifted 900 potency auto direct-crit attack, in addition to boosting Decimate in a similar fashion. So at a glance, WAR damage is just fine, but they also get free healing on the damage they do in a group with 100% uptime.
So tl;dr WAR is looking just fine. The other tanks seem to be doing fine as well, with PLD becoming more mobile and a bit more supportive, DRK gaining a lot of utility and solid damage boosting options plus animations taken straight from dark knight Cecil in FF4 and GNB looking like a very dynamic class with an interesting rotation and dps options.

I decided to see what the community forum of FFXIV thinks about the changes, particularly healers, as I am quite disappointed with the route SE has taken. I knew the forums were full of shitters who cannot play their roles for shit, but I didn't expect to find such a huge fucking amount of retardation concentrated in a single forum. Fuckers that assure that these changes are for the best. The worst are the absolutely pieces of shit that do not play healer, yet are claiming constantly that now finally healers will "heal" as they are supposed to. And not much better the faggots that say are "main" healers and agree that is for the best, how their friends that didn't wanted to heal now suddenly want to because it looks "easier and better" now. The mongoloids that somehow just know that ShB content will dish SO much damage, that "you won't have even time to DPS!", when absolutely anything SE has done to the game and the role in the past year indicates anything like this. Healing has become easier each expansion, now in ShB our Healing kits are absurdly good, like, all of them, but SCH in particular, has so much healing that it just make you question how much fucking damage will the mobs dish out for us to need the full kid and not have any downtime. And you know we will still have downtime, because people will just learn to optimize, will get better gear and progressively it will happen naturally, so we will have to deal with the brain dead DPS kit. And regardless, if SE somehow did manage to create low downtime all 2 years, then I can guarantee you, 100% percent that all of these shit eaters rejoicing for the gutting of healers and claiming "muh healers should just heal, like I always wanted" will be the first to wipe and be stuck and demand SE to make it easier. If you weren't unable to do the basic DPS rotation while keeping your party alive, that means you were a shit healer that just want an excuse not to use your full kit. And considering the comments that I saw, when one ugly potato claimed that she just loved to use "Benediction" to save the tank when he was at 10% despite not DPSing, or other claiming that they use Cure 2 for big heals instead of, you know, any of the powerful OGCD heals they have, is easy to believe they are shitters.
And you know what is even more funny? None of them, none, seem to think for a single moment that ShB dungeons and trials will be in actuality a relatively small amount of content. What about ARR, HW and SB? What about solo and MSQ content? There is no fucking way a healer won't be able to go through those without dpsing, nor is the damage of the old content be adjusted to match any kind of possible increase of incoming damage in ShB. EVEN WORSE, tank now have a traits that gives them a 20% constant damage reduction, basically, a permanent tank stance. If you are not dpsing in any of this content, what the fuck are you going to do the whole instance?. And then some have the galls to come and say "well, you will still DPS, is just a nerf to SCH, it was to good" as if the Numbers were the problem or what people are complaining about, and not the fact that we literally will have 3 keys for dps: a single target spam, an AoE spam and a DoT. "Well WHM and AST were like that, is just that SCH was the odd one out" say others. Putting aside the problem of homogenization, no one, no fucking one, wanted SCH to be brought down. What AST and WHM wanted was a more interesting use of their downtime. AST at least had the card system, but instead of balancing it, now they made it simple as fuck. No more RNG, nor managing your cards, they could have remove Royal Road and made each card more significant while nerfing Raid utility, but no, the whole card system to the trash. And don't get me started on those that say "those complaining are not real healers, just green DPS that wanted quick ques". Motherfuckers, I had played healer for 6 years now, who the fuck do you think you are to tell me what to play, cocksucker?. Why don't you go and tell that to tanks now, which are even more encourage to play as "blue deepiiess".

And of course, when everything else fails, they will come with "lol, whatever, stop playing healer, I will enjoy my fast queues and bonus". Each time one of these fuckers says this, the more I just want to grab my friends and go to dungeons as a party composed of 3 DPS (probably RDMs and DCN, maybe SMN if their healing is good at release) and a tank, or just straight up using the "Trust system" to give all of those shitters the middle finger and denied then even a single run. I used to play SCH and enjoy it, being the only one of my friends that liked the healer role (despite my main being DRG), but now I think I will focus on SMN, seems the most fun. From what they've shown, squad's are actually pretty shit if you're not a DPS yourself. They do absolutely garbage damage and have been stated to take about 30-35 minutes to clear a leveling dungeon with.

Yeah, they seem more for either people that just want to read a dungeon by themselve for whatever reason, and they added a lot of nice touches to the NPC behaviours and interactions. Seems each dungeon the character will have unique dialogue depending on their involvements in the story or who you take along. So far, these are the things I have either seem or read about:
Alisae uses LB as soon as possible because she is hotheaded. Also plays risky, standing longer in AoE areas
Ysthola in the same section you mentioned will not attemp to cross, instead waiting for anyone to go first, them using the BLM's teleportation skill to move to one of his companions at the other side
Both Urianger and Alphinaud will raise as soon as possible Alisae if she is k.o.
Ysthola and Minfilia will not use the LB if you are DPS, they let the "hero" take center stage
Actually these alone warmed me up to the system. Is still quite useless, and worrying in a MMO, but I would lie if I say I'm not looking foward to try different combinations and see how the characters interact.

The expansion itself is not worse than the last two ones so far. Some classes and improvement are better, like Tanks in general are improved and received interesting and needed chages, GBN, improvements to many of the classes (SMN although it has a few issues, BLM etc), white other changes are shit (Healer, MCH for what we have seen so far, homogenization of both healers and Tanks (particularly DRK becoming way too much like WAR). Sadly, x.0 expansions seem more like the "testing" patch until they fix the classes like 2-3 patches later. Still won't call it Cataclysm, but we will see at launch, not denying that things may go south.
Also, really hope that Yoshi is only saying that see for good PR, but man, he had said so many stupid shit as of late concerning a lot of the game that it makes me worry.

SMN has changed more that you give credit for, but we have to see until release to see what happens. SAM needed improvement, so we will see. I know their rotation is simple, but, perhaps because of my lack of experience, I find it a bit harder because of their need to remain static and their strict timings. I enjoyed SMN and DRG more anyway, so we will see. DNC and GBN both look interesting. Also, I think DRK is worth mentioning. Seems quite a lot of people are dissapointed with the "rework" too, not only because it just "copied" War, but it may actually still be quite weak. Actually squadrons do far more damage than players can achieve. Just add two archers (which will spam Barrage without a CD) and have them on Offensive behaviour, which is a pure damage increase up to 60%.
The issues with squadrons is that the tank AI can be dogshit with initially grabbing adds (all adds will aggro on you on a pull) and the healer AI will go full retard and waste GCDs casting Break instead of healing the player. What this means is that you have to micromanage the AI via Engage so that they take aggro on mobs, and not do giant pulls.
tl;dr Squadron AI is stronger and tougher than any player, but can sometimes be dumber than any player.

In this game, player organized content is not Pve content like it was in Wow. No one Pvps either. Player organized content comes down to taking pretty pictures and furnishing your house and glamming your character in between. An occasional run of a 24 man or a dungeon for glam purposes, that's it.

Basically, Ivalice also exist in FF XIV, and the kingdom of Dalmasca stands where Ivalice once stood. It is practically the same as FF XII and Tactics, with small changes in the lore to make it fit into FF XIV. Also, the story of the Raid actually mirrors that of FF XII, but with the Garlean Empire taken the place of the Archadian Empire, and if the end of the raid is anything to go by, the magitek of FF Tactis, more precisely, the Constructs, may play a role in future raids or plots in FF XIV, as it seems the Garleans had taken a hold of it

What is the issue with my statement? Fanservice is great, specially when is done well, which I think FF X XIV has done so. I'm not even advocating for it to stop, far from it, it would be a shame. But if more and more elements from other FF start piling up I fear the game may lost its own identity. So far, elements from other games appeared mostly on side content, but now they had find their way into the MSQ and main pieces of the lore. Not that it didn't happen before, with bosses, names and certain characters from other games, but it was quite well justified. But the Omega raid was just the " 'member this boss?" raid with a very flimsy justification. Viera is now a race, that is quite big and a major change in the setting. Now it can't be contained just in its little corner of side content, they will be everywhere. SB already took a dive in quality when it came to writing, and I fear this will hurt more than help the status of the game. Sometimes creator must have some self control and not pander too much.

I think there was a side quest mention around Wineport about Dalmascan wine way back in 2.0 somewhere. This got revisited during the FFT raids when you bring some Dalmascan Red to that poor crazy ex-Garlean soldier living south of Wineport in the jungles.
I don't think Ivalice itself was mentioned, but I do believe there was a reference, again in 2.0, to Rabanastre in reference to events Yugiri was reporting to the Scions when the Doman refugees arrived.
