I downloaded this after the recommendation in >>16486494 but I don't think it needed its own thread.
Anyway, I really like the game. I'll definitely be keeping a copy even after I beat it. Text wall now: Making decisions feels rewarding not just in making hardcoded choices but the actions you take in the game and even choosing what to do in battle. I actually like the lack of experience points allowing you to progress with your own skill even though the character is still minimally divorced from your skill through base stats and equipment (which is fine by me, because those are still choices you made although equipment you find is RNG). Because I feel like that belongs strictly in tabletop, I just don't find it fun in video games. Stealth is a really fitting mechanic for this game even if stealth would be way better in a specialized engine or simply one that isn't as tile-based as RPG Maker. Items and what they do are fairly intuitive. The fucked up dungeon atmosphere and all the events and shit in the game, and the brutal difficulty (although I do somewhat lament the patch making the guard not coin flip instakill you anymore if you can take the damage, instakill would be more fun even if failing to run away would fuck you for sure whereas now you might survive if you had near full health and decent equipment). Also that the merchant at the beginning of the game is a backstabbing kike that sells you poison and nothing but poison, something I was expecting and prepared for, but amused by nonetheless.
I'm a bit stuck though. I hope it's not possible to completely fuck your save solely by missing item check coin flips. I made some item progress and got fully healed, decided it was time to try and save in the crow bed, changed my equipment, lost the coin flip like I thought I would, and even knowing what I was getting into, I don't know the trick to beating the fucker so I got killed in three turns. I don't feel like I've lost much, because I still don't know where to go. I can get back to where I was, even if the RNG isn't as kind next time. The main issue is where to go. I pulled the lever, and I found the contraption in the blood pit, but can it be used for anything? I tried interacting with it every way possible and it didn't do anything. It just told me "it's a strange contraption" or whatever. Is there no point? I could always check out the fucked up tree in the backyard, but I figured it was a dead end that would kill me for sure, what with all the dead bodies.
Also, what's with this guy that thinks he'll turn into a butterfly? Should I kill him or leave him alone? And is it actually a coincidence that this character looks like the fucking happy merchant? Because from reading the twitter and tumblr, the dev sure sounds like a huge faggot. That would be some really believable pretending to be retarded, honestly. It does look too intentional though. It's not terrible, but it's objectively shit design to have so much of it based on trial and error, or RNG. Yes, before anybody starts banging that fucking drum, you block when it warns you and you don't take the coin toss, etc. I get it. It's just fucking annoying and needlessly punishing for the sake of the "ultimate difficulty" meme. Difficulty in non-puzzle games should be a solution that is clear to the observant but is tricky to actually accomplish. It requires skill, reflexes, and awareness. It should not require having played it and died several dozen times before and now you understand what the game does and doesn't want you to do.
I won't hate on the tone or style though, I can appreciate something genuinely dark like this. I just think too much of the difficulty is unfair to the player, rather than posing a legitimate challenge.

You're right, the enemies are like brick walls you have to run into before you find the right sequence to attack, and you can get fucked even if you have the right sequence if you happen to miss an attack. I'd say the item RNG is even worse though, with how useful some of the books/scrolls can be. Last time I played this game was version 1.03 though and I think the dev added a book merchant to make it less punishing.

If your copy is from IGG, download the latest nwjs for your platform from nwjs.io then take the game folder "www" and the file "package.json" and copy it to the nwjs directory. The game uses nwjs regardless, faggot. I'm merely advocating replacing the version packaged with the game with the official latest version so you know nwjs is clean no matter where or who you got the game from. It's good practice. Of course I agree that taking it a step further and getting the game files from a trusted source so that you know the javascript wasn't tampered with either would be ideal.
But also nwjs is hard to get running in wine last I tried. It's easier to just run the native Linux version, so it's still useful information.

I may be misremembering but as I remember there is only static save location so finding it isn't excactly hard, likewise your first save is always free, but after that theres a 50% chance when you sleep you have to fight Crow Mauler as a 1 time boss battle, and once you beat him you can save as much as you like at the bed, so not really sure how that's RNG. Finding the save books has an element of RNG because books are all 1 pool, but you are guaranteed like 2 throughout playing and can cushion that further with side missions to buy them so not really sure how RNG plays anything into that.
A lot of these arguments remind me of the good old days of Dark Souls / Demon souls when ever someone would have to expirement to find a solution to a place they were stuck they called it

To which the response was rightly "Get Good". Once you've learned what you need to do it's another feather in your cap which makes you all the deadlier, like virtually any game. It's really bizarre to see people now making the same gripes that I take for granted from Games Journo's demanding an easy mode; clearly cheating themselves of the experience of becoming better, immersed and conquering a challenge. Like sure, my first game took like 8-10 hours, but after I had a good idea of what I was doing on my 2nd playthrough I did it in like 2 and 3/4's and I think I only died like twice from new area's I discovered and was unprepared for. Hell even coin flips for killer moves by enemies are almost all avoidable in all but the thoughest bosses like Skin Granny, and even then, you are generally supposed to lose a party member at that point (though I only lost one of mine on the very last boss).
The challenge, like Dark Souls, is part of the experience, and so is claiming the growth and being able to dominate the next time around, or in so much as you can. Even so, I am glad there are elements of RNG in the game because otherwise you wind up 2nd Pic; a fun game but totally devoid of any strategy or replay-ability due to the fact that every victory condition demands an EXACT scenario and skill set to make it to the end, and thus there is no experimentation beyond the "win" conditions and any mistake or mistep in design is a game over. Even bad choices or unfortunate events (like losing an arm) can be conquered in F&H.

Overall, you can miss story-related stuff, although considering all the fuckery going on it's hard to know what triggers what this early into the game. When you go into the tree, check the walls and watch for holes. Not a lot of space to move around enemies, and there are holes you might step on.

incorrect, if you fight the crow you will most definitely lose a limb or break your bones. Eyes might get pecked out, you might be infected from a beaten wound, he could peck your head off to cause you or your party to suffer deleted heads, etc.
If you mod in that fight's end you didn't experience any of the fatigue, you just decided to maneuver around a difficult choice. Really, the worst of it is that you miss out on things like rerolling for lore books; most of my deaths caused me to go through the same areas multiples of times, causing me to either coin flip to some good loot or lore books; I got a sense of the world as it was taught to me, I learned about the old gods and tales of the new gods, I figured out how to turn a ghoul into my soulmate and rebirth into a tyrant, I found the lost blade of the legendary dark knight, and it was all by the simple and normal way of the game. I'm the kind of person to take hours to explore an entire area, searching for hidden clues and trinkets, finding little snips of lore or hidden wall breaks, like the one in the ancient city where you can see your entire party and you're humping nothing and there are three bear traps
But you don't get to see that when you just rush right in.

The difficulty is on par with Darkest Dungeon, by that I mean it's unnecessarily bullshit and way too prone on RNG when dealing with events that could outright kill your guy, or fuck him up so bad the run is doomed. The only reason why I killed Birdman is because he missed two of his pecks and focused on my loli till she died, which kind of saps the catharsis from victory a bit but honestly fuck him.
Although when I discovered how to effectively deal with the guards and found the hexen table on top of understanding the lay out of each floor more and more it felt really good and gave me hope that I might become a necrogod like OP did. And I didn't leave impMILF unscathed either, chopped both of her wings off before the final fuckyou on her return, I still died yeah, but seeing her without her wings felt damn good.
I've stuck with more infuriating games before and the music/art/lore is really good, so I don't think I'll be dropping this anytime soon.

None of that would impact the difficulty very little while making the game less of a chore to play at first. Nothing is as hard as the first few hours in this game, and after you're pass that nothing is ever as difficult except the very final dungeon in the game

There are items you can find, make, and another area where saving is always free. You can also kill Crow Mauler for free saves in that bed forever. It's another issue where the game gets easier as you go along. He'll kill you the first time you fight, but if you pay attention you can find a sequence of attacks that will work 99% of the time against him where you won't even take damage. Most enemies are like this, where there is a proper sequence you can use to make them harmless before you go in for the kill. Even without trial and error, you can make smart decisions regarding enemies. You can almost always run from fights you're losing or shouldn't be having in the first place, and enemies who you've dismembered will stay dismembered if you do run.

Even after finishing it I'm still in the same boat. It's clear the dev poured a lot of love into this game. The art and music are great, and he put tons of flavor into the world to really try to get you immersed. Getting to see most of it requires much more investment than most are willing to put up with though. Even when you do learn the little tricks that make the game manageable, you can still accidentally misstep and fuck up what was looking to be a good run. But most of the difficulty is in service to the atmosphere, which I'm sure the dev did knowing it would turn away most people away. Being able to save at any point, combat not being as punishing as it is, or removing the multiple ways you can make a choice that either has no benefits or actually harms you would take away from the game.
Part of the fun is the dread of losing an hour of progress because you made a stupid decision or finding your first party members and being able to fuck up enemies you've been avoiding because you were too weak alone. The best part is sailing through an area you previously thought you'd never be able to get past using only what you've learned and not because you grinded long enough to become lvl 99+ death-knight fuckgod. Getting to that point is a test of patience though, and it doesn't help that the dev stepped a little too far into bullshit territory when it comes to the difficulty and design at points.

Sprinting down a tunnel filled with gore being chase by a lizardman while you have the "RECTAL BLEEDING" status effect only to jump down a shaft and break your legs loops back around into comedy instead of being tense or unsettling. Some of the deaths are there to add more flavor to the world, like the lizardman skinning you. Pointless it terms of gameplay, just there to spice up what would be a GAME OVER screen.

Have you examined the corpses piled along the flesh tunnels? Did you ever wonder what is inside the shit pit it's just more shit, trust me? Wanna try talking to an enemy to see if you can get some information about the world or a new way to beat the encounter? Great things to try once you know you're fucked anyway since you can use that information in the next play through.

Blue potions will heal for 20 points, and the furry orgy will give you a full heal for free the first time, and a coin flip every time after that. Blueberries and blue herbs will restore a little bit of health too, if I remembering right.
But you'll need a white potion to cure the poison, I don't know if the orgy removes status effects. Go dumspter diving till you find one before healing because I think poison/bleeding only takes you down to 1 hp.

Dark priest can start with necromancy, and gaining party members makes you less squishy. Or you can pick bugspeak for items and lore and either a recipe book for healing items or pyromancy which is a powerful spell for early game.
Mercenary can take lockpicking which is useful early game and can make a lot of silver before starting, but new players won't know where to spend it making it useless. Steal was always kinda shit when I used it. I think he can backstab enemies to remove one of their limbs before fighting, but I haven't checked myself.
Outlander gets to eat corpses or a buff he can use in combat. Also he can start with a soul stone but you may become scared of penises, ghosts, monsters, amd magic. The iron arrows you find can be used to hit enemies outside of combat, I think it does damage and removes limbs. You'll be swimming in food at first if you loot everything, his corpse eating might come in handy late game if you've eaten everything.
Knight is worst starting character. Fast stance gives you two actions for an encounter but takes a turn to use meaning you'll have to take damage. Counter never worked well for me, sometimes I'd lose a limb which isn't worth the damage you deal when using it. She has the best starting equipment but you can easily find equivalent or better equipment just by looting the early areas of the game. However fast stance works really well if you have party members to soak damage and remove most damagin enemies limbs. Fast stance + high damage weapon + party members = easy mode combat.

Alright, so I got myself married and went down to the mines to fight the yellow fucker. He is one of those enemies where the developer goes too far into bullshit land since as soon as you come within 4-5 tiles of him, he'll start casting hurting, which takes about 2-3 seconds to finish. When he is done, you'll take damage and lose a limb, and he'll immediately start casting again. There are only two of these enemies in the game, one right after the other, but they're still shit design and one of the biggest "FUCK YOU" to the player in the game.
With that out of the way, I just circled the yellow guy to see what would happen. He blew off my left leg first, and immediately my character sprite disappeared . After he blew off my right leg, the same error you got popped up. After hitting retry once, I popped back into existence and was dead, at which point there was an endless loop of him casting the spell on me, me getting the error, and me hitting retry. I had to restart completely.
So I tried renaming "marriage_of_flesh14" into "marriage_of_flesh4" and went for another spin around the yellow mage, and him blowing my limbs off went perfectly fine with no loading error. Looks like the dev just fucked up by mistyping. I don't know if that might break something else, but it does fix this problem.

I fell through the floor in the fucking tree, ended up in an area called the Thicket and am now completely stuck. I already checked every wall, found the second hidden Thicket area, cut open the giant purple heart and killed all the penis monsters. I have checked every single fucking wall tile in both Thicket and Deeper Thicket with no more secret doors to get out. I can see other areas through the walls and even a skull lantern through the wall near the purple heart
I found the Outlander there as well, but my party is too full for him. Even took the Eastern Sword and killed the ghost, hoping it would get me out but still nothing.

Avoiding him is a good idea, and that goes for many other enemies in the game. He's scary when you first meet him, but he's a great introduction to the way combat works. Once you understand how to fight him without getting maimed you're prepared for many of the other fights in the game. He only really becomes safe to fight once you have some party members to help out. Whenever you find a save point I'd recommend you try fighting the big rapey dude and experiment with attacking different parts of his body. It'll help make the combat click for you.

Since it's hard mode I think no other player characters show up and you're completely on your own, there's no saves whatsoever and the loot tables are out for your blood. You need to know exactly where all the guaranteed goodies are (Soul stone on the cult priest, Miasma sword, etc) and so on.
It's best to do it as a Dark Priest simply because of the stats you can get as a Marriage and so you can actually have some tanks, I think. Because you can't just off the other party members, you can either go after the skin granny instead of the one that gives your God soul.
You can't even recruit Legard. It's a true "fuck your couch" rougelike, with static elements you need to be aware of. Your entire game will get fucked because of a single coin flip, over and fucking over. Good luck. Make a video or something.

I did actually get an ending when I simply walked out into the forest after finding dead Legard. I used dash and escape plan to avoid as many enemies as I could. Someone made a video on youtube where they made it to the Ancient City to learn a spell to resurrect Legard and got an S ending without even having to fight the gods.

Did some experimenting and found the scrolls have been made slightly weaker. You could spawn multiple special weapons in earlier versions but it looks like that has been removed, now you can only spawn generic equipment which is a waste of a scroll. The best use of empty scrolls I've found is to give yourself greater blood magic for cheaper casting and learning powerful spells like black orb and healing whispers.

I think its possible there is a meaning behind it. One of the gods you can worship is some corrupted god of love. She is the one that allows you to create the marriage and is responsible for the hydra in the early parts of the game and likes when you fuck the bunnies. Sex magic is pretty built into the lore and I believe (I havent experienced) your character can get raped by certain monsters? I know there is an anal bleeding status in the game. Most of these things require dicks.

Each character has different win conditions for their S ending. I've only seen the knight's ending, where she goes to the ancient city to find a spell to bring Le'garde back to life. Ending S seems to be completing whatever goal each character had that brought them to the dungeon. Though if that is the case, using the throne to ascend makes sense for the priest. The only ending besides that I could think of for him would be finding out more about the "greater scheme". That would mean going through the entire game, beating the hardest dungeon, and fighting the hardest boss without being able to save once. Having played through that before on normal, fuck trying any of that.

Tree is less dangerous because you only need to dig through trash till you find an explosive vial and then just sprint through the tree. Mines is much more dangerous because you have to go through the cells which is filled with gnomes and guards to unlock the elevator and head through ghost mines. I've always fucked up when trying mines but tree is easy street. Plus you always find an explosive vial by the desk when you first enter mines from the area Le'garde is being held, so you can open up the deeper mines and tree without backtracking
