I just listened to the /coxg/ Discord meeting. It sounds like they are going to try the central auth server, but if something shady goes on, they'll drop it and just do their own shit. I'd be willing to bet that Brain will be ready to just quickly replace that with their own auth.
They spoke about how to add world PvP to the game later, and they have some ideas, but they haven't fully worked it out yet.
Rayne the tranny was in the chat, and Rayne claimed they were going to talk to NCSoft tomorrow about permission to run a server or something. Brain quickly called Rayne out on this saying he didn't believe him, and how retarded an idea that would be.
Generally I got the sense that Brain and others have things under control, and they'll be running i24 as soon as it's stable enough to run. I'd say within a month. The server costs are paid through to June, and a few more donations will keep things going after that.

This. Hearing that my current playtime might be invalidated at some random point in the future makes me not want to play. And the cherry on the shit sundae is they want the ability to transfer/port over characters from server A to B,C,D and vice-versa as long as B,C,D agree to an exchange from a certain server, so you can go play on another server like a god damn video game tourists browsing random FPS servers after he installs Counter Strike 1.6.

I expect this concept of free traffic, at best, to be temporary. People from other "shards" are going to play for a couple of hours before the novelty wears off and they go back to their own server.
Now Central Auth will also mean that you can transfer a character from this server to another one. This allows people to move to other servers because it's easier (ie. AE rewards are better) or there's more players, and if enough people do it it's going to cause a migration loop.
Say you can transfer and Rayne, the Reddit tranny, pulls typical tricks and convinces everyone in the dicksore server he's not going to ban people in his reddit game server/shard, he'll use voice chat to tell everyone how "It'll be /coxg/, but with more players". Reddit puts up with the nigger spam for a while until eventually this uncucked server is fucking dead because everybody is grinding and settling elsewhere. If this server gets taken down due to a lack of players, they'd have no reason to play along anymore. I expect this to happen because Rayne has been spearheading this cent. auth. shit; trannies are adept at infiltration and putting up with shit for the slightest amount of control and to get others to like them. They chopped their dick off and are unhinged for fucks sake. Month-long Gayops from a former SCoRE member to have THE largest, non-HC server? It is not a stretch to say that the wipe, and it is a full wipe - the server isn't even named the same thing anymore - was to prevent select individuals who had amassed such autism that they were able to reach the max incarnate level, fully IO out, and were actively in the process of helping others reach the same goal from absolutely ass-raping the other servers in every way. Way back in the day, the "central auth server" was NCSoft who eventually allowed server transfers. I made this guy, but I'm having trouble deciding on a powerset. I wanted to play Dominator and use Psionic powers, but I also think Water Blast is thematically appropriate and that's for Corruptors which don't get psionic secondaries.
