The character is much more recognizable, and the colors were closer. I wouldn't have assumed they were drawn by the same person given how little the first drawing resembles Yuuka. So it's definitely an improvement there. But it's true that oversaturation and neon colors make the work look more deviantart tier. I did a quick shoop job to fix the colors and it looks much better. I think the shading could use more work too, as it still looks somewhat flat in certain areas. For future work, I recommend some coloring and painting tutorials. I think he did good otherwise.

I've been using Krita for as long as I've been drawing digitally, but it's a piece of shit so I've been thinking of switching it for another like Photoshop or Clip Studio.

Well for Resolution I use 300 ppi, everything else remains the same. I admitting haven't really changed these setting mostly because i haven't found a reason to.
But try messing with the settings to see what fits. do quick drawings inbetween settings, and look throught krita forums for tips.

And see I appreciate the advice and I'll actually flip the image a few times to confirm an error in other views and if there's an issue l'll fix it. You can see I repositioned the leg a few times based on the loose sketch and am still adjusting it. Trying to look bashful while working with the fact the original ref doesn't show joints, like knees. I adapted the dark shadows around the body into compressible joints with a subtle accordion pleating, will the limbs set at distance similar to balls joints on a wooden mannequin. But if it doesn't read that way in my rendering then it doesn't work and I'll scrap it and try something like doll joints.
None of of that is what I call finished line work, it's a sketch.

Okay, so since I'm not doing a great job of understanding it on my own, can someone teach me how to properly utilize sketches, like I get you use them as a reference for what you want, but I most the time It just doesn't help me, or at worse hinders my ability to draw so I'm clearly doing something wrong, and my friends aren't really great at describing it.

Think of it as a loose approximation of the finished work. It will give you a rough idea on what you're drawing and where everything should be.
You wouldn't start drawing a skeleton with the intricate details of a single bone and hope all the details magically line up in the correct angles and proportions as you slowly progress to the other side of the drawing. Dead reckoning based on a small detail is very hard, and you're likely to start slowly growing, shrinking, distending and bending details more and more the further you go from your starting point.
So you draw few rough lines, egg shapes, boxes and see if the general idea is clear and makes sense, and that everything is about as big as it's supposed to be in relation to everything else. Maybe use a stupidly thick brush so you cannot in any way focus on the details. It's a lot easier to shift around a few boxes, lines and eggs than it is to have to redraw every single rib in a rib cage when you find out the torso was actually supposed to be angled slightly differently. It's also easier to compare one box to another to see if they're in proportionate sizes.
Once the first rough sketch is in place, maybe knock it back down a bit and make it lighter, and draw it again with a few more details, or draw directly on top of it. You already know where the big masses are supposed to go and at what angles, so you the next level of detail is so much easier to place correctly: you know it's within or very close to the first set of loose primitives. And if it's not, it's not too hard to fix.
Then do it again, with even more details. Maybe on different layers, maybe on the same, depends on your workflow.
Through this iterative process, you'll get closer and closer to what you're trying to express, and it's your call when to call it quits or when to go over it one last time with distinct lines.
The sooner you notice mistakes to correct or figure that you want to do something differently, the easier it'll be.

That's one way of putting, but I think an easier way, is like this it's all about refining what ever shape you may be drawing, I search for a while to actually give an example that made sense to me, and landed on this, where you draw a very loose shape of whatever it is your drawing, then you start to refine that shape over and over fixes places where you an improve, until you l land on what you were hoping for, so if I was drawing smeargle head, I would draw a loose shape of it, and draw it over and over until you come out with something you feel glad about showing, the picture it's self is more of a frame about how many layers I did until I got a design I wanted, sure it wasn't totally perfect, but it was more of a way to teach myself, I don't know why people have such a hard time explaining things, but I feel it helps when you do more than explain or simply show, it helps when you have both and put into a context people can understand.

In the end, a sketch can be a valuable tool. It might be a finished work on its own, but you can and should use it as a tool so you can get the big picture in place as early as possible.
