Mom doesn't care much for vidya, let alone playing it herself and aside from a few games, has always considering what vidya I've had interest in to either be immature or dated at best, and downright unwholesome at worst. On occasion I have at least get her interested in particular OSTs though, even if she doesn't exactly like what they're actually from.

Are you saying that iPhone automatically renames downloaded files to a UUID, or that you just download them as is and can't rename them? That's bullshit. It's a UUID v4. Programmers use them all the time whenever they want to generate a random unique identifier string (even when something like a hash would be better, such as when saving images). If they wanted to track shit like that, they'd use something more reliable like image-embedded steganography or even just mung the image and keep track of the hash. There are far better ways of tracking people than naming a file something, hoping they keep that filename, and losing track of them immediately if anybody else saves it with the same name.

My grandmother was amazing, though. When the Wii first came out, and people were saying how it was great for old people, we brought it over to play Wii Sports with her, and she got really good at it. But the best surprise was her skill at Link's Crossbow Training. One of my fondest gaming memories is my 87-year-old grandma mercilessly gunning down skeletons in the desert. She's gone now, but her high score lives on as a testament to her skill with a crossbow.

My mom used to play Shanghai on the Sega Master System, but that's about all she's ever really played beyond Minesweeper/Solitaire. I tried to set her up with an emulator to play it on her computer a number of years ago, but she got confused and wouldn't use it. So I set it up in it's own folder, hid all of the files except for the executable and the rom, and told her all she needed to do was drag the one file to the other. Still claimed it was too complicated to bother with. So I gave up trying, and just sympathize with her when she complains about how she misses that game. I don't know what else to do aside from getting her a physical copy of the game and original hardware, but that would require her to flip the input selection on the TV, and she's unsure of how to do that.
For context, she's in her mid 70's now, and she's never been tech minded. At all. She grew up on a farm and worked a factory job all her life. She's pretty religious too, so in a lot of ways since my dad passed - she's just given up learning anything new or keeping up with society. She's just running out the clock.

I’m having a bit of a dilemma with my own mother. Fiscally, she stepped up after my father retired. He was making close to a million per year, but retired due to restructuring. Retiring was not the right thing to do ultimately as family financials have been questionable ever since, but she coped with it better than he did and got a job, which is not easy for someone her age. My father got really sick in my freshman year in high school and I went from being a top student to nearly flunking out, so she ensured I got the emotional support I needed. She’s been there every step of the way and regardless of the outcome of some of her decisions, they are in the interest of the family. What I feel to her is something I’d classify as respect and loyalty rather than love, though. Love seems to be far more irrational.
