As a completionist i think the hardest challenges should be designed to be the last thing you do to get the equivalent of the 'Platinum Trophy' in whatever version you play so you end with this satisfying feeling of completion and not some 'thank god its over' monotony.

Still being the easiest Fromsoft game helps. I can easily finish a run now in about 2 and a half hours with no deaths. Cannot understand why turbo casuals have a problem with stuff like Lady Butterfly or Genichiro.

I firmly believe its because the game stops before the first two deathblow enemy to load a window explaining how the fights are about that posture bar and not hp and casuals go "yeahyeahyeahyeahyeahwhatevergogogogoggoo" and skip it to "get to the action" and get hardcore bodied.

Oh PS4 they give stats for the trophies and only like 38% of people got past the 3rd boss.

Not like it matters since i got all the endings already.

Yes I remember Valve being very shocked that so few people actually finished Half Life and saw it as a reason to make games more easier. It's very common and not really a "problem" that needs to be "fixed", since making the game easier is not really going to increase this number much. Some people just buy a game and just don't play it. You'd think people would eventually stop buying games they don't play but they just keep doing it and I have no idea why.

>Run from that to kill horse boss

>Run to bull, kill bull

>Run across roofs to beat Genichiro, again

>Run through dungeon and mount sengoku to beat dickhead on bridge

>Continue to monkey boss

>Go back to castle and go down pit and kill gunner lady in poison swamp then run through all of the mist area to kill the palace noble

>Then run through mibu village to kill the corrupt illusion

>Go back to castle and run through sunken valley to fight centpiede monk in gun fort

>Then run through the next area to get to the Headless Ape

>Go to castle dungeon and run back up the castle rooftops to fight owl

>Go to mibu again to get transported to the palace, fight the true monk on the bridge

>Run through to the dragon, beat the dragon and once again go back to the castle dungeon run through the zone to the reservoir, light that last bonfire and then kill genichiro and sword saint isshin.

Congrats you beat the game and only had to fight 16 enemies in the entire game without sequence breaking or glitches. Hard to do on NG with base health and posture but on NG+ with max and constantly increasing strength and the knowledge of every moveset and enemy? piss easy. The grinding is very annoying, seems that even if you go through the game four times, mopping everything in the way, you still need to grind. The late points require far too much XP, it should cap at 50K and that's still a lot when there's no XP consumables. For me, the ideal thing would be adding the option to replay bosses at will with the 'Confront memory', kill two stones with one bird.

>>16447623

Mikiri the flying Stinger ; Floating Passage always ends with a somewhat delayed perilous thrust ; as before, jumping attack has three possible follow ups so dodge if you're not confident you can't counter ; grab as more range but it's also preceded by him moving to your left ; to counter the lightning, jump after the kanji disappears.

or you know liking the game. I'm on the third playthrough though. The weapon variety meme came from people wanting it to be a souls game. I played all of them, this game is not the same it's focused on mastering a type of aproach to battle not the souls mindset of having a wide pool of fighting styles with. Souls combat depth was tied to the weapon progression system. This one is about developing a rythm meaning it's method of main progression is kinetic instead of stat based. Though they're present just like skill was present on souls games the order is reversed though.

I think it's the hardest modern Fromsoft game for the first playthrough. Once you've learned every enemy's attack and parry timings you can breeze through it easy, but actually learning that shit is more effort than most people ever put into Souls.

>Cannot understand why turbo casuals have a problem with stuff like Lady Butterfly or Genichiro.

First attempt Genichiro and Lady Butterfly both took me multiple hours. By my second playthrough I could kill Genichiro in a couple minutes with so little risk I skipped the save point on my third. Lady Butterfly is a lot more inconsistent especially if you don't use the cheese AI lockdown, one of the few bossfights I can still die to. Part of that is because when I did her on NG I wasn't parrying, so I didn't get to spend 3 hours learning her move timings.

I played it four times and am taking a break now. I found the core gameplay to be very enjoyable and felt like it paid off to "play honest", got mopped hard in my first couple of runs but last I beat the game without triggering Dragonrot and breezed through most bosses except Owl Father, felt very rewarding to defeat bosses like the Corrupted Monk by reacting perfectly to all her perilous finishers.

That said, the game could have used a couple more months in the oven to iron out a few kinks and re-think a few things - multiple combat arts available at once, ninjutsu swap on the fly, give tools more uses, some pay off to NPC questlines, spice up NG+, some unlockables, not have as much goddamned useless shit items etc.

>I think it's the hardest modern Fromsoft game for the first playthrough. Once you've learned every enemy's attack and parry timings you can breeze through it easy, but actually learning that shit is more effort than most people ever put into Souls.

My opinion as well. Starting with the Guardian Ape, practically every boss beat my ass like a ginger stepchild culminating in the final boss taking me close to 5h but the effects of gitting gud felt much more lasting as I now got everything figured while in games like BB I'm almost certainly going to get stuck on the Orphan and Laurence every time.

I just beat it yesterday.

What I liked:

>Apparitions/Infested in general

They all had cool themes, great designs, and really sold the unnerving aspect of their designs with their jerky, unnatural, and sometimes awkwardly slow motions. The headless felt like something ripped out of a horror game and it felt great hunting them down.

>gittin gud

This felt like a game where getting good really trivialized a lot of bosses. In some of the Souls games I felt like I could walk into a boss room for the fiftieth time and still not be able to win. In Sekiro I could walk into the boss room on the third or fourth time knowing that, even if I didn't win, I'd be able to perfect the parry timings on at least one move to make it a non-issue when I walk in the fifth or sixth time. This led to some enemies becoming laughably easy once you had every parry down to muscle memory (Ministry ninjas, Genichiro) but it at least felt like I earned it.

What I didn't like:

>Resources

I went into the Isshin fight without any spirit emblems because I legit ran out of them from spamming mortal draw and the shurikens so much in previous fights. I don't mind the 15+ emblem limit per rest, but having to buy them at 50 sen a pop really adds up, and I don't like to grind.

>More resources

I mentioned I liked the Headless earlier, but what I didn't like was Divine Confetti. That shit was expensive and rare enough that, after using one and dying to the Headless on my first attempt, I didn't fight them again until the end of the game. In all honesty I can't even think of a good solution to this because not needing confetti to fight them would steal some of their thunder, but hoarding confetti early on means you'll be overpowered when you fight them later.

>The early game in general

I don't know why they put swarms of enemies in the very first areas of the game, while you're still grappling with controls. I guess in the end it does force you to learn to be patient and stealth kill everything in an arena before fighting the boss, but it makes the first areas stand out as harder that most of the areas halfway through and beyond.

I don't know what it is about the early game in Sekiro, but for the entirety of the Ashina Outskirts and Hirata Estate, all I could think about was how this game felt like some soulless B-tier Souls clone. That may have just been my salt running wild but I saw a lot of people feeling the same way at the beginning. I'm wondering if there was a better way to handle it, is all.

Good game and I'll be looking forward to the DLC. Worth a buy if you like FromSoft games, worth a pirate if you wanna see what everyone's talking about.

>My advice to new players

You will hate the game for the first 5-10 hours and internally complain that it's really shit compared to Dark Souls. Then you have an epiphany and realize it's actually pretty good. Stick with it, get good, and you might find yourself enjoying it more than you thought you would.

>>16448153

You must be the first person that liked the headless, their aesthetic is pretty good though.

>Resources

>More resources

I felt the same at the very start of the game, but i quickly amassed a ton of stuff so it was never a problem, i don't mind grinding, usually i'd grind to the next level when i knew a boss fight was coming so i'd always face the boss with no money or exp to lose so by mid game i had hundreds of emblems and dozens of confetti and sugars, i'd still say that it's not well balanced but it wasn't a problem for me for the most part.

>Stick with it, get good, and you might find yourself enjoying it more than you thought you would.

I came out loving it and before that i was shitting on it since the last E3

584083  No.16448322

>>16448287

>resources

You can also grind the shit out of Mibu Village for emblems/XP, since by the time you get there you're strong enough to hit+mortal blow. It's honestly kind of therapeutic to just zip from mortal blow to mortal blow and abuse those iframes. Plus there's about 1000 enemies in that place, and they respawn from the ground in the same place over and over.

Lady Butterfly was literally the first boss I fought, even before horsedude. At the time I was NOT comfortable with the idea of multi-parrying. I also noticed that if you parry certain attacks she immeditately comboes into more attacks, whereas there's an opening to counterattack if you block or dodge. Also she does basically no posture damage, so you can hold block the entire first phase and take no damage unless you get hit by a perilous.

When I first fought her I did so by holding block and counterattacking after like 3 specific moves. Stupid from the overall paradigm of the game, but like I said first boss. The problem is that since I spent multiple hours doing that, and NOT learning to parry, I still don't really know how to parry her.

>not knowing about japans rich history of ritualized pedophilia homosexual relationships.

Oda Nobunaga, first of the three unifiers of Japan was betrayed because his betrayer, Akechi Mitsuhide, heard a rumor that he was planing on transferring his fief to Oda's nanshoku lover Mori Ranmaru. Nanshoku being a typically pedophilic relationship between an older man and a young boy page. Ranmaru is still held in high regard to this day, and referenced in fiction across mediums, he was even featured in Pokemon Conquest.

Pic related is him from the games.

Also it was A O K for the older male in the nanshoku relationship to seek women as the exclusivity of the relationship only applied to men.

Got my platinum and i've beaten everything, found everything and done every side quest. Overall a great game, easiest in the series due to infinite stamina and very generous parry mechanics but the good feels better than the bad.

The bad i think Ashina Castles tileset is exhausted, theres not enough enemy types, ninjutsu and none healing items to use in combat but for the good i liked the characters, the fluidity of combat and the verticality of levels and movement.

Its not their best game but its not a shitshow like DS3 or the arse end of DS1 when time ran out and you got legitimate unfinished shit like Lost Izalith and its lake of placeholder dragon butts. Overall i would recommend it but if you played souls games and were a turtling havelfag this game will wreck you.

I just don't like how forgiving the parrying windows are in this game. For all its faults, in Dark Souls III they got it right, in my opinion. You had two types of shields, standard shields and parrying shields. Parrying shields do not absorb 100% physical damage, but they have much more lenient parry timings, so the player would trade defensiveness for the ability to perform easier parries. While one could parry with standard shields, the windows for doing so were much stricter, because the majority of standard shields will absorb 100% physical damage, so long as your character has enough stamina to keep it held up. The stricter parry timing is there to offset the benefit of being able to both parry and fully block incoming damage.

In Sekiro, players can block and parry with their katana, which appears to be made out of fucking titanium, and since they have no stamina bar, they can just hold that shit up all day. You might be thinking

>yeah well, if all you do is block, the posture meter will fill and you'll eat shit, so you need to manage it by carefully timing your parries and balancing offensive and defensive maneuvers

The thing is that, because parry timings are so forgiving, the player can just repeatedly mash the L1 button and get a proper parry most of the time. Additionally, the posture bar will deplete very quickly, so long as Sekiro isn't injured. Not only that, even if the the bar completely fills, at most the player will be punished by a brief second of vulnerability, which can only make all the difference when they're one hit away from death.

Once you git gud at parrying, it feels like the game is permanently stuck on training wheels mode. It would've been nice to be able to switch between a sword that deals more posture and vitality damage, but that requires precision parrying in order to be effective.

But after a bunch of deaths I finally realized that, no matter what its body looks like, every enemy in the game is susceptible to the same mechanics, and I just started parrying the bull. Actually, the best way I can describe this game is almost like a compilation of the most irritating bosses from Souls games, like Ancient Dragon – just a mind-numbing endurance test.

Another reason why the Bull is hard is because at the point when you have to fight him you only have limited abilities to upgrade your HP and stamina since the game is pretty linear until you reach the castle. You won't have much chance to gain new skills or upgrade your weapons either at that point.

>It's typical Souls music

Sekiro's OST was meant to be ambience which compliments the environment or boss encounter, so it's a little unfair to just lump it with souls. I think Divine Dragon's was pretty nice.

BB has a lot of diversity when it comes to its OST. Many tracks don't employ choirs. DeS also has a lot of memorable tracks.

Only DaS2 and DaS3 are guilty of using samey, messy orchestra. Some in DaS3 sound horrendously overblown. Sekiro had none of that, so that's a plus for me.

DeS has a really good OST, I was hooked right off the bat with 'The Beginning'; a crying shame the composer never came back. Overall I think it's a game that aged well because the presentation is top notch and the game is balls to the wall FUN ALLOWED.

DaS2 is a bit like Sekiro in terms of music, the few tracks that are good are pretty damn good. For me, those would be Sir Alonne (embedded), Nashandra and Aldia.

I guess people are harsher on it because there aren't many tracks that linger in your memory as in some of the previous games, a probably shared by DaS3 that is mostly composed of bombastic, forgettable tracks.

There aren't many tracks in Sekiro I feel like listening on their own outside DoH and Lady Butterfly.

For the first phase of the Great Ape Rape(tm) I tend to just rush him down, just as you said bloodborne style. It helps because if you do enough damage he will get stunned allowing for tons of vitality damage. All you have to do is avoid the grab and you can be very aggressive first stage. Second stage is a complete change in how I approach it, nothing but hit and run, avoiding getting terrored to death, and not getting greedy. Some parrying, but ive found when he belly flops if you get up in his face he cant hit you with his sword at all, allowing for free shots. It was a challenging and fun boss for me to learn.

Except it is though. Its meant to be barebones as the meat of the game is the combat. You're given stealth as an option for clearing out areas without the risk of combat and for also reaching bosses without fighting enemies beforehand. The stealth of Sekiro is meant to give that predator like feeling, because you have the tools and movement to strike from cover, from above, distract someone to turn their attention elsewhere etc.

There's not much in common with the Souls games in terms of how to move and approach enemies. For the most part, you'll want to deflect enemy attacks even if it looks like you're going to get flattened and regarding perilous attacks, make sure you pay close attention to the enemy animation not only to recognize the type of attack coming but also the timing to counter because some require you to wait a bit before reacting. I'll second getting the Mikiri Counter first but for the healing upgrades, I'd say it depends on how much you'll be struggling because they're very costly. Remember that stamina is not a thing so you can run and attack as much as you like though keep in mind not all enemies will sit there being bullied with R1 spam and either deflect your attack or power through with a armored attack - for boss fights it's key to not mash, make a split-second break between button presses so you can react if a enemy decides to poise through your attacks. Remember you can get a stealth killing blow on most mini-bosses to skip half the fight if you ever find yourself having trouble dealing with some of them. Don't engage Headless until end-game.

And for those who already played through the game, here's a fun fact - Kensei Isshin has a seppuku scar

The game is fun. Fun as fuck.

Sekiro's beauty lies in the speed, the reflexes and the different kinds of attacks that can be executed in the time windows that each enemy has.

Without fear of being mistaken I think mini bosses are some of the funniest enemies to face. I'm currently fighting Lone Shadow Longswordsman, and it's so much fun that I don't attack it from above to take an orb of life, I enjoy a full combat.

For some reason, I feel that the combat system is similar to For Honor's "The Art of Battle", but with a different approach and that pleases me very much.

The game can feel pretty difficult in the first run, I died a lot to the early mini-bosses and then a whole lot to the late bosses. You'll have to know every enemy in detail, the attack strings, the "tells" and how to approach the fight because not all enemies are about filling the posture bar by deflection and will instead require you to deplete their HP bar instead and sometimes a mix of both attacking and deflecting.

As for tools, the Firecrackers are basically a crutch as they're efficient against almost every enemy besides apparitions, the Shuriken is useful to interrupt enemies when they're buffing or recovering posture and the Axe coupled with the follow-up attack skill does big posture damage and can poise through some enemy attacks. There's a link to a playlist of very handy tool guides in this topic in case you're interested.

I mean you can cheese almost every boss if you're familiar with how the dark souls AI works, because it's basically copy pasted. Owl can be looped into constantly backflipping. Lady Butterfly is so simple to AI loop I found it on like my 3rd attempt at the fight.

The AI in this game is really fucking bad because of the added mobility the player has, and from just reusing AI patterns from Dark Souls. Like not targeting an enemy makes them far less aggressive, in addition to them no longer doing certain chains, every boss has something like that. In addition to that Isshin has a pretty simple loop, but can't be killed unless he pulls out the spear because AI scripting.

My daddy Owl didn't get that memo then. The perilous attacks aren't too bad but the overhead slam he can cancel into other attacks can be tricky and his movement makes it easier to get caught off guard and there's no longer the anti-heal charm "freebie". For the most part it's still a enemy who hits like a truck, does immense posture damage, will Mikiri the shit out of you and will try to capitalize on posture breaks, his second phase attacks aren't all that troublesome but it's really annoying when he's wide open and vanishes. In my first playthrough, the standard end boss took me the most time to beat but once I had him figured, he wasn't too bad in subsequent playthroughs but daddy still beat my ass like a drum.

A honorable mention to the Shura endboss, not particularly hard but has a couple of tricks I never quite learned how to properly deal with.

Insanity. Isshin hits hard & will hit you even if you've managed to dodge or block the brunt of his hits. He can be cheesed somewhat with shadowrush or the purple umbrella but once you're out of emblems you'll have to rely on the hit n run strategy. That's when the difficulty comes in.

We talking about Sword Saint? I'll stick to what I said, in subsequent playthroughs, I found daddy Owl harder. Isshin is a bit like Genichiro, a very pattern heavy enemy and I confidently fight him head on, the only time I back away is to recover posture.

Phase 1 he has a 4 hit string that can be dodged on the 3rd, a perilous thrust preceded by a non-perilous one, a second perilous thrust telegraphed by him taking a few steps to your right, a chase down slash to punish chugs, Ichimonji and Dragon Flash are both armored but have poor tracking, if he goes into the Iaido stance just walk up to him and he'll strike and follow up with a perilous sweep just begging for that High Monk punish; his trickier attack is a armored slash where he goes into a stance and does a AoE, just goomba stomp him to avoid it and damage his posture a bit.

Phase 2 is hard because of the posture damage his combo does, you'll want to deflect as many hits as possible to Mikiri the perilous thrust ender and you also can't mash R1 because of his retreating leap slice. Again, he has a armored slice to a AoE and, again, goomba stomp him to avoid it. He very rarely uses the perilous sweep that, for the most part, is a single attack while most thrusts are combo enders. Watch out for the gun when he's at range and expect the spear slam when he approaches.

Phase 3 is more of the same but now you can mess him up faster with Lightning Reflect (jump right after the kanji disappears) and the wind slice is easily dodged by running to a side.

He was undoubtedly the hardest boss in my first run but I'll be damned if I didn't git gud. Heck! I wish it were like this in other games, fuckin' Orphan in Bloodborne rails me sideways every goddamned time.

Owl is easier because you just have to be hyper aggressive & close the gaps while paying attention to his tells. Isshin is unpredictable in the second phase onwards.

I would say git gud and learn the timing of each bosses attack like I did but you don't need to git gud. Just spam block. A game meant to be hard but even normalfags find it easy. Even though I took the time to learn each bosses moveset, because I didn't know about block spam, it still only took me 23 hours to beat the entirety. Also your Dark Souls analogy is flawed. More like it's like going through dark souls with a shield and infinite stamina. That's literally what it is in Sekiro, getting posture stunned was barely a punishment since you could roll out of it.

It has a steep beginner's curve but once you get it or once it clicks, the game becomes much easier. You still have to be on your toes and learn bosses, they fell very much like you are going to die a few times to do that. Once you've mastered the game and beaten it, there isn't much left to see which is where most of the negativity comes from. Its as deep as a puddle with its combat and content.

Prove it. Post video of you consecutively parrying all 9hits of this combo. If you block one instead of parrying it doesn't count. If you can't even fully parry one of the easiest bosses in the game you don't have ANY room to complain about the system being too easy or too forgiving.

1ea016  No.16534001

>>16533988

By the way, it's super easy to backstep once and make him whiff the first 2+6 hits, then parry the one strong hit triggering him to use the perilous thrust attack right after. That gives you a free mikiri for basically no risk since the last hit by itself is easy if you don't get hit by the one before. That's not the point though. According to you and people like you, you can just spam parry all game so fucking do it. Spam parry against the easiest fucking boss and show me that it actually works.

You can still beat Genichiro even if you fail to parry. Usually you block anyway, and as you can see in that video >>16533988 even with the NG+ damage bleedthrough he still doesn't do enough that one or two missed parries in the very short fight is going to matter.

However, saying that you can just "spam the button and deflect everything" is categorically false. Saying that the deflect window is so large even if you spam the button that you can't fail is also false. If any one of you goes back and actually pays attention to how many deflects you miss even on one of the easiest full-boss phases in the game you'll see that quite clearly.

Of course, mashing the button blindly like you are on crack cocaine will fuck you up,I however didn't want to assume that anons itt were that retarded so i interpreted "spamming" as "pressing the button more often than is necessary" which the parry window is sufficently large to get through doing if you have any sense of timing.
