"Generic" is one of the least valid complaints you could make about the Halo games.
Slow? sure. Shit weapon balance? absolutely. Popular with normalfags? Back in the day, yeah. But it's not generic.
It's got unique visual design, a gameplay style that's a unique blend of Arena shooter and more modern shooter elements, is unusual in how it focuses on both a single player and a MP compenent without one being half-assed, etc. And per >>16425821's point, not many games or media that have the humans vs aliens concept in the same way flesh out the enemy alien faction and have stuff from their perspective to the same extent.

You can skip the cutscenes, Halo's weapon selection after CE is pretty solid, with a lot of variety and unique weapon ideas, though with shit balance, and it didn't kill arena shooters: >>16425929 points out that it qualifies as one, and besides that, Quake, UT, and Doom all had titles after halo
>Halo CE: 2001
>Unreal Tournament 2003: 2002
>Halo 2: 2004
>Unreal Tournament 2004: 2004
>Doom 3: 2004
>Quake 4: 2005
>Halo 3: 2007
>Unreal Tournament 3: 2007
It was Call of Duty 4 that killed Arena Shooters, and made brown and grey regen health loadout shooters the norm. Not Halo, especially since Halo is colorful as fuck, has even starts, etc.

It shouldn't have been, and THAT'S my point. Everybody with a brain knew MCC would get ported eventually, why turn El Dewrito into Halo 3 2.0 when it'd just die once MCC got ported, why not have it be something unique or at least be willing to improve and fix Halo 3's issues.
