I don't want to spoil too much, but there's a point in the game where everything is turned up to eleven. And you find out the entire game up to that point was basically the tutorial

Metal Black

>Earth gets invaded by a fuckton of aliens from the Nemesis star and gets fucked up big time

>the Earth defense forces manage to create a line of starfighters dubbed the Black Fly, which are able to use the same source of energy the aliens use and could potentially turn around the war but the earth government are cucks and tried to make peace with the aliens instead, resulting in the starfighters being locked in a vault forever

>the aliens then essentially suck the earth dry and leave it a barren wasteland

>but as an upstanding aryan you can't let this shit slide, so you decide to infiltrate the vault and take one of the Black Fly starfighters and destroy the source of the alien scourge by yourself

>the earth is a fucking desert

>holy shit, this alien just fucking destroyed the moon as if it were its cocoon

>shit gets more progressively psychedelic as you travel through the wormhole

>what the fuck is going on with the final boss? why is the background that of a neanderthal? why is the background now that of a fucking CAT?

>if you game over, in the ending your comrades will avenge your death by amassing a fleet of Black Fly's en masse and take the fight to the alien core as well

>but if you WIN, the Earth splits in fucking half and you're left wondering whether it was all a dream

Dragon's Dogma's neat in that its apocalyptic ending ties into NG+ as a mechanic, even though the game is essentially an alpha build.

Its not unavoidable and is a spoiler but I love the way you can fuck up and receive an endgame galaxy wide apocalypse in star control 2 if you don't hurry the fuck up.

Spoiler for further details

If you do not affect the civil war between the two subspecies of antagonist ur-quans the Kzer-Za and the Kohr-Ah, the Kzer-za lose the civil war (and they were your primary antagonist to that point yet the more benign of the two species only enslaving and emprisoning sentient races instead of exterminating them like the Kohr-Ah) and the black Ur-quans Kohr-Ah start a "death march" that culminates in them moving their fleet all over the galaxy map exterminating every single alien species you've encountered in the game so far.

Reguardless of the details its a pretty fucking terrifying event to see unfold if you took your sweet ass time exploring the game and you just see it arrive toward everything you've learned about the lore so far and how impossible it is to affect without hurrying up to finish the game (the part where it destroys everything you've come to known is important here), kinda really made me thought about how losing in a video game ultimately fucks up that entire universe if you could see it go on through after your demise.

STALKER is pretty amazing.

It's a pre-apocalyptic series where the idea is that you see how the world is going to end by being shown just the tiniest microcosm of what the force that will soon be ending the world is like.

With that said, the series so far is a horrible tease about actually getting to the point where it goes from being pre-apocalyptic to being mid-apocalyptic.

Nier was bretty good. The people in the game aren't really people, just copies that managed to gain some sentience that were supposed to be used to restore humanity, and the main character fucks it all up and dooms humanity forever.
