What kind of aircraft are you most interested in? For me it's large airliners. I impulsively bought a DC-10 earlier today before realizing that it doesn't have GPS capability. Since it's such a pretty aircraft I figure rather than try refunding it, I think I will use this as an opportunity to stop being a pussy and learn VOR flying.

On a side note, does Xplane 11 really have anything over FSX aside from eye candy? I recently upgraded to FSX from FS2004 and I can't say I need graphics to be any prettier than this. They get the job done.

Helicopters, and the Huey and Mi-8MTV modules for DCS take up almost all of my free time. Jesus it's so much fun to learn to control an aircraft that is actively trying to kill you with every quarter-rotation of its rotors

I torrented xplane 11 and after switching from dcs I'd say that dcs had more to offer and had a higher ease of access and learning everything.

X11 is cool but its a bitch to download all the textures (its over 60 gigs), and you have to manually download airports and additional scenery

Good thing I didn't pay for it because I uninstalled it from my pc due to not particularly enjoying it.

I think one minor thing x11 has over fsx is that it simulates airfoils and stuff like that, very minor.

If you already have fsx and are used to it, there is no point of getting x11

Is it just me, or are the helicopters in FSX a little too easy to fly? Maybe there's some great payware copters I don't know about, I've only really flown around the stock Bell and Merlin thing.

I recommend you buy a map of the area you live in since there you will see all of the airports nearby with VOR's. If you really want to get the full experience I recommend you get a flight computer and navigation plotter. This is coming from someone who used to be in flight school, and I still fly from time to time on xplane 11 with a yoke,rudder pedals and throttle.

No no. The base game itself is like 9 gigs but this literally comes with like one airport and if you fly too far away the rest of the world turns to water due to having no textures. Thus, you are forced to download an additional ~49+ gigs of textures to be able to see anything other than water. I belive it is such a large download because the terrain is based off real sattelite images

Honestly I think I prefer FSX autogen terrain, with the option to get satellite imagery for certain areas if you wish. Having to download 30+ GB just to do any international flights seems like a pain in the ass.

I've been playing a lot of wings over flanders field recently and really enjoying it. Even though it's running on an older sim as a base it often still manages to look pretty good to me. Too bad there is no flight sim community around here, I would really like to organize a flight sim gamenight for something like IL-2 1946

Flying big airliners is boring. Climb to 35,000 feet, do nothing for five hours. The Cessna 172 and Grand Caravan are the best, fly across a state at most at a low enough altitude to still appreciate the landscape and weather effects.

Is DCS world the best free flight simulator? It's not even the highest tier study sim level aircraft, but the included Su-25t is way more complex than anything included even in the default aircraft roster of paid sims like FSX and Xplane.

I would like to know more about flightgear. Are all aircraft freeware, or is there payware too? Also scenery. FSX is nice and all, but the autogen scenery can be distracting if you're flying somewhere you recognize from real life.
