Kamiya and Itsuno make better games than Kojima did/does though. They could step into that role but I don't see it happening. Kojima made good games with lots of story, cutscene and exposition dump. People got attached to the mix of goofiness and seriousness that MGS offered, but then MGS4 happened and was Kojima throwing a temper tantrum in video game form, at the cost of tens of millions. That started the slow decline of Kojima and people began to sour on him.
I can't quite see anyone filling that spot Kojima had.

i didn't play the original nier wich i heard is the very definition of meh
but i did play Drakengard 1 and 3
1 was a fucking pain, i don't even remeber why the fuck did i finish it, the combat as monotonous and generic as it got and the dragon shoot em up segment were lame as fuck to. not to mention the endles grind to level up the other characters
drakengard 3 was just as generic, with a far more anoying dragon and it was full of bugs and glitches, so much so that i thought my pirated copy was busted, but it turns out the game was very poorly coded
let's not forget that each and every one of his games comes with a story more comboluted than the bastar child between Kindom Hearts and the Zelda timeline
i get that people like him becos waifus and tragedy but if that's what you're after there are probably a millon less tedius ways to get your fix of that shit
i can kinda understand him having a niche fanclub like Suda51 but damn if he ain't overrated as fuck just like Suda51
