Which is why I'm hoping Arc Sys will take care of most of the gameplay. I could see WayForward just making all the lewd designs and Arc Sys being in charge of the gameplay. Considering Arc Sys flat-out owns the Kunio series they should know what they're doing.

Same. I don't know why people hold them in high regard. Their Shantae games are overrated in my opinion (delicious 2D brown can only take you so far) and the rest of their output isn't that great.

Contra 4 was awesome. That's the game that made ma Wayforward fan. I went back and tried the Shantae's after that. I really enjoyed Risky's Revenge and Pirate's Curse. Half Genie Hero is a 7/10. Solid platformer, but nothing special.

Agreed, they're really only mediocre to solid and I'm saying this as a long-term fan who played the NES/Famicom stuff. Even the stuff on PC is just very eh, for a lack of a better term. I'd have to say the most solid of every nu-Kunio game would be Rival Showdown.

Maybe since the series is getting its footing back though hopefully ArcSys will start treating it like its fighting games at least. Hopefully.

As for WayForward, their games also range at random from "pretty damn good" to "oh god why is this so slow."

It's average. Great music and visuals, decent gameplay that gets old fast with the lack of decent weaponry that isn't the assault rifle and bosses that have at most 4 attacks, stretched out to over 2+ minutes per boss.
