YouTubes recommendations used to be actually relevant once upon a time, a couple of years ago Jewgle switched to machine learning to run the recommendation algorithm and it's broken as fuck but they fucks don't want to bite their egos and admit it. I get numerous late night talk show hosts, sports, videos in fucking Korean and Chinese, and Family Guy funny moments in all my recommendations even though I never watch anything that would even come close to suggesting I give a fuck about these things. The machine learning algorithm for the recommendations is just broken. It's gotten so bad that Google had to publicly admit it was bugged and claimed to issue a "fix" (which didn't actually work, I still get recommended old videos)

My take is that the core algorithm is probably fine, but when you take that, then you tweak it to give priority to content creators who chose to pay to "promote" their content (mostly media companies and some vbloggers), then continue tweaking it still to bury "controversial" or "problematic" content, it eventually warps into the frankensteins monster we have today.
