The weapon system at its core is actually very simple.
Each type of gun can have specific parts. There might be 3 different handles, 7 different barrels etc. What parts a gun will have will affect its base stats and those stats will be slightly randomized at the end of the process. There's also a chance the gun will have a status effect.
There aren't that many base parts in the game, but all these combinations and variables give the hugely inflated "over a million guns" figure.

I have played the shit out of this game for years and years. I always end up coming back once a year and cracking cold ones spending over 2000 hours a playthrough. I can tell you right fucking now, this is barely a remaster. All I can notice is updated textures, shadows and the addition of heads and skins.

I'm a dude who plays videogames anon. Took some screenshots of the enhanced edition, but honestly I can't really tell where they improved the game.
They did change the way the "angel" looks and added an FOV slider, as well as support for up to 144hz though it kept getting stuck at 50hz and wouldn't let me change it.
I forgot how much dialog the game had that would be considered too sexist now to add to a game, ie. implying Siren would bake a cake because she's a lovely lady and vault hunters getting women as a reward. Funny how the climate for game dialog has changed, wouldn't be surprised if some shitty games journalist would write a condescending article about the dark past of Borderland's writing maybe that's how Burch got hired in the first place

Having played both, I disagree. The remaster was unfairly bashed because of the decision to charge people who already owned it on PC, so people picked it apart for the most trivial shit. It's not perfect by any means, but its functionally sound, and the QoL changes are really nice. People try to say that the game looks worse, often citing a couple areas that are brighter than they were before, but not enough to change the majority of areas appearance. The only exception I can think of is blighttown, which I dont think anyone was really fond of

That's the thing, you can't really make a looter shooter without it fundamentally being shit, Shadow Warrior 2 from a combat perspective is a decent improvement over the previous one, but due to the fact it's trying to be a looter shooter, that brings down every other aspect of the game, making Shadow Warrior (2013) the more enjoyable experiences, despite the fact 2's gameplay is better.
When a game is meant to drag on forever that just means your going to keep playing until you get sick of it rather then the game simply having a satisfying ending.

I didn't mean it in a the game doesn't have an ending, but more so the game lasts way longer then it should and spreads it's self too thin, Rather then making interesting and memorable levels and a some great weapons, it has you do the same tasks in huge samey looking areas, and instead of just letting you use the fun guns, you have to wade though mountains of shit guns before your lucky enough to find a gun that's actually useful.
Forgive me if I don't see the appeal in playing a game that's has me open hundreds of chest that 99% of the time give me trash equipment, vs a game that lets me Earn a really fun weapon or ability from beating some kind of challenge.
If you think it would be easy to make a looter shooter that's actually fun then by all means i'm open to the idea, but I'v yet to see one that doesn't always have the same exact problems.

I actually legitimately enjoyed the loot pinata Diablo 2 style randomized guns system. Anyone with an ounce of intelligence knows that B3's "ONE BILLION GUNS OMG" bullshit is nothing but fancy marketing, since there will be maybe 30-40 unique or legendary guns at all, and that system hasn't been unique in two or three decades now.
Claptrap was the worst character in that entire fucking series, which is exactly what the game keeps telling you to think, but they literally designed him as an annoying piece of shit so well that I can't stand to be around him in the slightest. It's sad, too, because looking at Claptrap's skill trees in the Presequel, I really wanted to try him, but I knew I would want to throw my disc into rush hour traffic if I had to listen to that little robotic shit for more than five minutes.
Tiny Tina is almost as bad, almost exclusively from all the nigger-tongue bullshit she spouts. At the very least, her D&D DLC story arc gives me some feels at the end especially since it's the only goddamn time she stops yammering on and legitimately acts like the fucking child she's supposed to be.
I only played Borderlands 1 for one playthrough on a friend's console before losing interest, but 2 caught my eye quite well. I mostly enjoy the combat and mechanics, and it's probably one of the few FPS games I still enjoy to some degree, but I probably won't go back, and definitely not for 3. The writing was terrible, the plot had more holes than the brain of someone with late-stage neurosyphilis, the characters were overwhelmingly annoying, the memes were cringey when the game was made now they're just great examples of what to never ever fucking do, and the cel-shaded graphics are a tiresome eye strain.
Aside from the combat and loot system, I am of the opinion that Borderlands 2 had very few redeeming qualities, outside of one in particular: Handsome Jack was probably the best-written character in that entire game, and his actions and attitude still make no goddamn sense. Specifically, the New-U system was never utilized or explained outside of:

Instead, the New-U system is nothing but underdesigned plot armor. Hyperion never takes action with it, the glaring flaw is never explained, and you are simply threatened endlessly, only to die 20 billion times and kill them the very next time you get up.
Mad Moxxi isn't even a good character. She just comes off as a contrived mess of shitty puns and innuendo glued together by some off-putting emotional PMS horseshit, and her character design isn't appealing at all. At least her guns are consistently some of the best in the game, with some of them beating out many legendaries in power and utility.

The first time I heard about Borderlands was in a magazine article. Gearbox promised so fucking much. I remember when borderlands came out I loved it and I even bought all the DLC because i was just a stupid goy. the idea of a diablo shooter really made me excited and while the game had tons of problems it could be improved upon. then like a complete idiot I pre ordered BL2 and after playing it for 50 hours I swore never to pre order a game ever again because holy shit this game is complete garbage. While the original borderlands had problems 2 makes all of those problems worse while fucking the level scaling and adding shitty memes that have only become worse with time.
I didn't even try the pre-sequel and I am definitely not bothering with any more gearbox games. I hope they all go to hell. Least i still have the first game, if only someone would make a game that improves upon it.

Mostly quality of life tweaks that you could still do without plus a minor graphical facelift. The shadows and ambient occlusion look better, though it sure is eye-straining in dark areas now. Ammo shops have a "buy max ammo" option which is convenient and shops in general don't have a sell confirmation popup anymore which saves lots of clicking when merching a lot of stuff.
Also there's a golden key chest in Fyrestone & New Haven that spawn guns/shields/nades with blue or better rarity. It looks like the new legendaries can also spawn from this chest, pic related. You can set your profile.bin under My Documents/My Games/Borderlands Game of the Year/Binaries/SaveData to read-only for unlimited golden keys, which I think is something you could do for BL2 too.
Other than that, it's basically Dark Souls Remastered all over again, minus the fucked online part.

This is a problem that Destiny solved pretty well to be honest. There was a set variety of weapons in a given catagory (Auto Rifles, Hand Cannons, Rocket Launchers, ect.) usually about 15-20 different varieties of each. You would get a gun and as you used it it would upgrade and there were a massive pool of perks and attachments that could "roll" on the weapon. It made a big enough difference that two of the same gun could be dramatically different from each other but it made sure that every gun felt unique and fun to shoot. The loot system is the best part of Destiny. Shame about everything else.

Played it a bit and it's (pretty obviously) just BL1 in the BL2 engine with updated assets and way better textures, and unfortunately BL2 style menus. Also there is no anti-aliasing besides FXAA (which I would rather not use) and forcing MSAA through Nvidia control panel doesn't work. (Not like a downgrade, original doesn't have any AA at all or v-sync). Distant LOD seems to be better as well. Also slightly more random environmental clutter too and lighting seems to have a little more contrast, maybe.
Don't wanna be a shill but it's not a travesty, I always thought the original was a lackluster port visually and the textures are pretty clear now. Infinitely more effort than the Bioshock "remaster" which is a literal downgrade.

The lighting is extremely fucked up, with very erratic and clearly glitched flickering, even on lighting that is supposed to be flickering like the entrance to Rapture in Bioshock 1. This results in a shitload of screen tearing.
You can't have a controller and a keyboard plugged in at the same time while playing. If you have a controller plugged in, a keyboard will not function for controls. It made a horrible first impression when the remake came out. Going to try it again out of curiosity in case something has changed.
