It has that indie feel coming through in everything.
It wants to be immersive but then gives you dialogue choices between sucking the NPC off with how much you like them, and being a complete fucking douchebag. There's "supply caches" (see: chest sitting on top of a brick wall) or whatever scattered all over the overworld, which are inexplicably unraided despite the map being cluttered with bandits everywhere.
Combat is too hard but I don't really play this kind of games, and maybe this is the wrong game to start because you die so quickly. I don't really want the game to be "easier" but I wish there was a better difficulty curve at the beginning to ease you into it.

It's not as action based as other similar games from what I can tell. You're very vulnerable so you have to approach each fight carefully.

It is really good. Don't judge its appearance by the tutorial - it gives an awful first impression. I'm hesitant to say it looks "great" out in the open, but I really enjoy the colors they use combined with their overall aesthetic (post-tutorial). It could definitely use some QoL improvements but the gameplay and exploring are really enjoyable for me. It is fun thinking out encounters and preparing for battles (traps, magic circles, whether to drop backpack, weapon choice, etc), although maybe I wouldn't need to do that if I didn't suck at the combat. If you have attention issues, you probably won't enjoy this game. If you can't appreciate the journey, you are probably going to get bored with all the tedium. It is actually a lot more casual and comfy than I thought it would be, because there isn't a huge punishment when you die. I like it quite a bit, although it is definitely not for everybody (and that is precisely its appeal).

its an action RPG with survival elements. you need to keep yourself well fed, hydrated, well slept, warm, cool, and healthy. combat is a hard but not so much, its because enemies don't flinch on hit. Illumination is a big issue, you better carry a torch or a lamp at all times or you'll be pretty much fucked indoors/at night.
you start the game by having to pay a debt of 150 silver in 5 days or they take your house, after that you can follow the story of 1 out of 3 NPCs who all leave the town on separate directions. im on this part. but i cant even decide which one to follow because just going outside is kicking my ass.
death doesn't seem to have any lasting consequences, but depending on who kills you and where, things can happen. Best case scenario you get sent back to the village in a weakened state, worst case, you get captured by whatever killed you and all of your gear is gone (usually stashed somewhere in the enemy camp) but you can't really fight the enemies without your gear so it becomes a sneaking mission, which ends up in you dying again and again because chests are usually guarded and you'll keep dying and being sent back to the cell.
im liking it. no handholding here.

It's complete ass. The whole reason fast travel sucks ass in game is that it pulls you out of the adventure. You don't get to see the dungeons and the encounters and the world. But the world in this game is barren. I'm 10 hours in, and I spend 10-15 minutes walking with my friend to a location, a few minutes clearing it, 8-13 minutes walking to a new location (you have to chain them together to save travel time), a few minutes clearing it, and then a good 15-20 minutes returning to a city.
There are minimal encounters as you walk. Sometimes you do encounter things, but you rip their assholes apart because the game isn't very hard, despite what everyone complains about. Things seem to take forever to respawn in the overworld, so it just remains empty. The people who whine that they can't fight anything must really suck. Just hold up your shield until they're done attacking and then hit them once or twice. Repeat until whatever you're fighting dies. If you're playing with a friend, solitary strong monsters are just as easy, because their AI cannot comprehend being flanked. Don't bank on dodging over blocking, because dodging doesn't seem to provide any sort of i-frames, so it's usually too late to dodge once you see the attack coming. There is no timed blocks - just hold your shield up like a mongoloid. I have never died after 20 hours of gameplay. I have revived my friend multiple times because he's turbo aggressive on the pretense that "the faster it's over, the less mistakes you make".
Survival mechanics have the depth of un-modded New Vegas. After a few days, you'll have a dozen meals on you, and water isn't a challenge in any capacity, since you can always make water drinkable, and you can have multiple waterskins. You randomly need 'travel rations' to travel between regions, for some reason, despite the fact that you can carry meals while traveling, and it takes multiple travels for this food to even rot. If you have raw meat about to rot, just cook it and it lasts multiple days. Cook as many complex meals as you want, because you can get endless free salt by desalinating water - just fill your waterskins with water and then take it to a fire.
If you want to play it and want to play with magic - go to Conflux Mountain as soon as possible. There are some troglodytes (non-challenge) and some mantis creatures (magic explosion that will ace you through a shield but is incredibly easy to dodge with a long wind-up), but there is an NPC there that will help you clear the floor, anyway. You just have to pass through the door by pulling the lever in the next room, and then you can travel down and unlock magic. You have to sacrifice 5 max life and 5 max stamina for each 20 magic you want to gain. Magic will help you trivialize encounters, since there are some skeleton enemies we encountered that resisted physical damage, but melted when hit with weapons coated with elemental rags.

It actually does ruin the combat. Two-handed weapns, halberds, and spears are trash, because when you hit enemies with your giant claymore, they just casually bite or stab you as you hit them repeatedly. Combat is horrible and is dominated by shields simply due to this fact.

The way mobs spawn is fucking stupid, they respawn the instant you turn around until you kill X amount in the zone, then the entire zone becomes barren until you stay out of it for a whole week, zero immersion here.
The challenge and the feeling of progression are neat, but only until you buy all skills and find a legendary weapon.

Did you read any of the post where I talk about traversing zones and going under mountains? If you're dying, you're not holding your shield up enough. If your shield is so bad that you cannot block attacks, you can get a tower shield from patrols around the fortress in the south of the starting area, or you can get steel shields from bandits in the marsh. Most elemental attacks will still get you through the shield, but they always have anywhere from 1-2 second windup, so you can dodge it, even while wearing a cumbersome backpack. But the vast majority of encounters can be trivialized by holding your block button. They can be trivialized even more in co-op by having both players hold the block button, pincer it, and take turns swiping at it while the AI spins in circles incapable of basic tactics. I'm not even good at these kinds of games, it's just incredibly easy to fight anything when you have a shield. Dinosaurs are common enemies in the marsh so you're going to have to learn how to block.
And drink water and eat food that generates stamina. Food and water is so stupidly plentiful that you have no reason to be fighting tough enemies in sub-par condition. It's a big help for maintaining your stamina when you're blocking a lot of enemies. I have had to hobble around a room to catch my breath, and my friend always dies when I do because he's an asshole who grinds his face against enemies as if he's trying to prove a point. I don't have all of the recipes, but so far, egg-based recipes seem to be pretty good with stamina regeneration.
>>16320355
Yeah, if your weapon has enough impact, you can flinch an enemy after you trade blows enough to get it to half stability. That's pretty irrelevant for any non-basic encounter, since you'd still have to trade some blows with enemies when you're not using a shield. After getting the brutal club, I had no problem flinching basic bandits, hyenas, or the smaller dinosaurs in one or two hits. But, I mean, you can just sorta kill those, because they're simple fodder. I use a one-handed mace, so I guess trash enemies always stagger instantly. But most two-handed weapons stagger less than one-handed maces, and it takes upwards of 10 attacks to stagger actually dangerous targets.
What's really bullshit though is knocking enemies down. They just hop back up to their feet in one second and refill their stability, and hitting them while they are down doesn't seem to do any more damage than just clubbing them after their attacks. If you actually manage to lower an enemy's stability, it's better to just hold block and take the occasional swing, so they don't refill, but you can still flinch them.

It was kind of shit, tbh. Everything about the combat and movement felt floaty, enemies that would be trivial otherwise becoming dagerous simply because the character reacts shittily to user input. Camera could also use some work. For an RPG, the story and quests are nearly non-existent as far as I could tell, leaving you with a sandbox where you're free to dungeon delve for loot for no other reason than to acquire more loot. The survival system is a joke - water and food are at every step and you can sleep to full health anywhere and guard against ambush. It doesn't really become an issue save for hauling a bit of extra shit in your backpack. In game economy is also shit as you can easily accumulate large amounts of money just by pawning off whatever shit enemies drop.

Can we please stop doing this? Magnets are not like archives at all.
Yes, you're denying revenue to the creator of whatever is behind the link by using it instead of using the legal option. But that's where the similarities end.
Archives are used because jornos get money from clicks, Devs don't get money just for looking at gameplay videos or critics and that alone is more than enough to talk about the game from an informed perspective, which is the point of providing links (in the form of archives) in the first place. You don't need to buy or even play a game to talk about it nor do you need some link to prove the thing even exists either.
Furthermore, an archived link to some article is just a link to an archive. If it fails, it's redone but that's that. Magnets, torrents and the like are not the same.
You'll link one version and then someone will complain it's not the latest one or it's not the right one.
You'll link an uncracked version and they'll clamor for the crack. You link the cracked version and they'll clamor for how to install it.
The second you start dropping links, you're gonna be flooded with retards that expect you to be their hacker tech support for free games, so why not tell them "learn2pirate" instead of spoonfeeding them every single time?
We do the same for porn, memes and many other things, why make an exception for videogames using article archives as the reason? When there's a Share Thread dedicated to archiving videogames even!
Furthermore, wouldn't it be a natural consequence of widespread piracy among idiots that can't even find magnets on their own something that would easily lead to more and more sites being targeted and terminated? Would you put it past a normalfag to post the links you gave him on some Discord or Facebook group?
So why would you risk the safety of the sites you use to oblige someone that is too stupid to find it on it's own in the first place?
Do you want more IGGGames? Because that's how you get more IGGGames.

False equivalency. A Demo isn't the complete game, so when you're done with it you have far more than just a moral obligation to buy the game if you liked it.
It's also a shitty way to solve that particular issue, not only because the situation isn't ideal (how many games did you end up buying after playing a pirate copy vs how many you didn't despite liking them?) but because you're offloading the burden of providing a "demo" onto someone that has next to nothing to do with the devs themselves beyond starting a thread to talk about a game they like.
It's not the responsability of anyone to spoonfeed or provide tech support for the illiterate among us, it's up to them to lurk moar and learn2pirate so they stop being newfags all the time.

You have yet to make a good argument for why it's the OP responsibility to find and spoonfeed a link for random faggots.
Just because it's simple and quick doesn't mean it falls on OP to do it and if it was that simple and quick, anyone can do that themselves anyway.
Besides, you're coming from the point of view where everyone will pirate everything no matter what.
First of all, that defeats the purpose of Demos as tools to judge a game and grab your interest. If you're not going to buy the game anyway, why bother making a demo in the first place? You'd just pirate the full version anyway!
Secondly, what if the OP is posting a game he actually likes and would like to see a sequel or more work from the same Devs? Why would OP sabotage the franchise he likes by posting magnet links?
Or to put this question in another way, why does it fall upon the OP to decide what games are worth buying or pirating for everyone else? Can you decide that on your own and find a magnet or a place to buy it on your own depending on your own personal opinion?
This is constantly being compared to archiving when that's incredibly stupid. Someone could photoshop an article or claim something was tweeted, the archive serves as evidence for everyone else to believe that it actually existed. You don't need similar proof about a videogame because not every new videogame thread is about the final release of Half Life 3.
This is also defended as being a way to filter out marketers since they'd never post a magnet, right? FUCKING WRONG. If the point is to get discussion about the game going, especially when they expect you to end up buying the game afterwards for multiplayer\achievements\random cancerous reasons that nevertheless work, they won't have any problem posting a magnet. It does not matter, you're still gonna help by word of mouth or buying anyway.
Magnet links are not archiving and are a shitty filter that's so easily bypassable it's insulting you even believe they work. All these posts are dumb niggers that don't know how to pirate in the first place demanding you work for them for free. And when things get hard, it's going to be begging all the time, tech support demands and eventually whatever place you used to get your shit from gets shutdown because these idiots are not carefull at all.
Why would you bend over for a bunch of moronic illiterate niggers that will ruin your shit?
2410f1 No.16329875
I really like the game, I've spent a lot of time in the desert and it's a lot of fun running around hitting shit with my massive sword. The combat is pretty fun and can be fairly challenging at times.
There's also a great variety of different weapons and armour to use which mostly have different attack sets and I honestly had a lot of fun just experimenting with all the different giant 2h weapons, sword and shield and everything else.
Using -% stamina used gear plus the royal tent bonus can be a bit broken with shields since you can just infinitely block and that's what I used for a lot of the content in the first zone and the forest, but you can't block elemental damage minus 1 skill you learn in the desert, so I eventually had to switch tactics for fighting burning men, wendingos, manticores etc later on in the game.
Haven't really tried magic too much but I plan on delving more into shaman to get the wind enhancement for my weapon and the runic combat at least looked like an interesting idea even if I haven't tried it.
The survival mechanics really aren't that bad since you're always going to be using the food/water buffs for anytime you're in combat else you'll just die constantly and you do tend to get food thrown at you quite a lot regardless, also I'm not sure you ever actually die from hunger/thirst/heat etc but it's not like death really means much anyway.
There are problems with the game though, like the almost infinite stamina blocking you can achieve with a few buffs such as spiny meringue food, royal tent, master trader gear, elite desert gear etc and since blocking negates all damage it can make some fights a bit trivial.
There's also the fact that knocking down enemies actually helps the enemy in most cases rather than being the free 2-3 hits it's supposed to be, since a lot of the time your attacks will miss (if you're on any kind of hill/slope whatsoever) or the attack hitbox literally can't hit fallen enemes like with the halberd swing.
Side quests are also a bit disappointing, there's really not many at all and they all tend to be just fetch x random item rather than something fun. Not many quests are given to actually go into any of the dungeons either so it's much more sandboxy in feel compared to most rpgs.
Overall though it's a very fun and very comfy open world camping game with pretty good combat.

I like Amplitude Studios. I think they did a great job with Endless Space, Endless Legend and other shit they did. I want them to sell a lot and make more expansions for the games I like or make sequels for them like what happened with Endless Space 2.
Why the fuck would I ever post a magnet to any of those games if I want the company to succeed?
There's a thread up about Risk of Rain 2 where a lot of players are having lots of fun playing the game. And yet they are still sticking to pirated copies instead of buying it. If it's because they are short on cash, that's perfectly understandable but if it's just because they can, that's stupid.
In 2020 Borderlands 3 is going to come out and sell 20.000 times more than RoR2 ever will. Anthem probably already sold more copies than RoR2 ever will. And neither of those games is better or more fun than RoR2 but investors and devs wouldn't know it judging from the support they get from players.

Can't really comment much on magic but it's definitely there and there's a lot of it so it seems like something fun to experiment with.
There is a stealth approach with traps and sneak abilties like backstab but you have to go a bit out of your way to get the abilities, the rogue trainer is in Levant, the desert city, but you can also willingly get yourself captured in the Vendavel fortress in the starting area which gives you a pretty fun escape quest and also teaches you backstab.
It seems more like a traditional rogue where you can apply poison to your blades and chain together lots of status effects on enemies too since I don't think most enemies will die in 1 backstab even if you do stealth them.

So here's the thing, is it the responsability of the OP to not only post the magnet but also keep track of any update for the game and re-post a new magnet when there's any content added?
Or wouldn't it be better if everyone that actually wants to play the game went to find his own torrent\magnet\repack and thus find the latest version automatically on their own?

If Gearbox gets far more cash from Borderlands than from RoR2, what do you think they'll try to make in the future? Or how are they going to model their gameplay in the future as well?
Keep in mind that RoR2 does a pretty good job with character skills aftecting how they play and it's many items are far better for character growth than the pathetic excuse that Borderlands puts out as a skill tree. Maybe taking some lessons from that could improve their own franchise so it's at least less shitty and anyone interested in better videogames would understand that.
But if all you want is to virtue signal how much you hate the bad guys and you don't believe in redemption or anyone ever being able to change, of course you're just going to focus on that.
Also keep in mind that Gearbox is strictly the publisher only, no hand in the development of the game. Nobody knows what cut they get from the game or even if they get a cut instead of a flat fee. Yes, it fucking is. Do you care more about the game or the company? Because you're supposed to support what you care about the most and that's supposed to be the game.
If their Battlefied and Star Wars games become flops but TitanFall sells well, there's better odds that they make better games in the future instead. Maybe the only reason they only make a good game every ten years is because they sell even worse than the bad games they make?
Like I said, if you don't accept that anyone can ever change for good and completely remove the option for redemption, than every company has a very good reason to stick with normalfags. They aren't just more, they won't stop buying their shit ever regardless of what they do.

How to ruin your game by getting the strongest 2 hand sword in the game too early:
Grab 20 tripwire traps and 20 iron spikes
(You can craft those easily)
Then go to the forest, find the city of Berg, talk to the merchants until you find the one offering a reward for killing the Manticore, then leave the town and go west to find the Manticore Lair, you will see a glowing winged monster, that's your prey, place all the 20 traps (don't forget to place spikes on each of them) and lure the Manticore on top of your deathpath, about 18 traps should kill it if you land a blow or two (watch out she can shoot spikes)
The Manticore drops the sword and also good monster parts the sell well, the tail you can turn in the merchant to complete the quest and gain 200 silver

At first observation, it's clunky. Enemies that attack faster usually have a greater advantage over you if you aren't wearing good armor because you will likely be forced to trade hits to get your own in because their attack recovery time is shorter than your roll recovery time. Then there is the issue that breaking an enemy's "poise" completely knocks them back too far and they only take a single second to get back up for you to follow up properly.
Weapon balance is not so good, 2 handed weapons either do or don't do as much impact damage as a 1 handed mace. The impact they do deal is underwhelming, and you can't use a shield or throw a lantern in your offhand, so why bother? That's another thing that's pretty fun to do, throw old lanterns that you find at enemies.
There are the bandits in the Marshes who do atleast a quarter or a fifth of your health with adventurer's armor, and take more damage to defeat and stagger than the bandits in the mountains and the forest despite wielding the same iron sword every other bandit uses and wearing what I think is scaled leather armor which doesn't offer much more physical resistance than the improvised leather set.
I don't have anything to say about magic at all because I haven't tried it outside of the tutorial, plus like (You) said it's expensive to learn. I don't want to sacrifice any of my max health and stamina for it, especially when I can buy 40 max mana at Berg from the magic trainer, and supposedly, obtain 100% manacost reduction with end-game mage armor.
It wasn't ironed out well enough and may as well be on-par with Piranha Bytes' melee combat.
Another complaint I have is, what the fuck is the difference between Protections and Physical resistance and which is more important? What's the difference between blight and poison, they share very similar icons but how are they different? What else counts as "physical resistance?" Nowhere in the game are any of these stats or damage types and their effects explained to you. Some are self-explanatory but only because they are obvious, yet the things that aren't obvious have no explanation for what they are or do outside of "check the wiki" that's a fucking gamepedia wiki of all things. I like this game, but it just isn't done right. The only times it totes "realism" is when it inconveniences the player. It feels more like this game was designed around the coop more than the single-player at times.

In relation to your fighting enemies point, I can say that strafing, blocking, and footwork has fixed all these issues. The only time i've had issues with opponents is when they were significantly stronger than me, which was a problem of stats, not weapon swing speed.
Also, i think some being faster is by design. In their dev talk at E3, they mentioned they wanted you to have to use traps to survive and be clever, not steamroll through everything like common adventure games nowadays. Also also, adventurers armor is kinda shit, get blue sand armor, or halfplate or something at least. I can't comment on mana as I noped out when I found out i'd lose health/stam for it.
>Protection/damage resistance
It's in the name, protection protects you from damage, and resistance resists as a percentage. So, halfplate as an example reduces every swing you take by 2, whereas its like 25 damage resistance reduces damage by 25 percent. At least that's how I understand it.
>Blight and poison
Dunno for that, if I were to hazard a guess, blight is corruption, whereas poison is poison. Probably just diversifying the types of dots you can get over time, like bleeds, or burns, etc.

I mean you'll be instantly pissed off when you play it considering your best friend is a nigger, though you don't really have to do anything with him, since he goes to sand land and you have several options of places to go, one being sand land, the other the capital of the tribes, which seem pagan in nature, or being a crusader to kill people in defense of your gods. Though if it makes you feel better, the black dude immediately runs away when the village tries to hold him responsible for a blood debt that his family caused, which is considered horrifically dishonorable.

Seconding the Blue Plate stuff, it's so much better than padded armor or fur armor. So far my strategy against hard enemies has been to use law down a few traps, use food/water/elemental rag/bandage before engaging, and then open up with Shield Bash and beat the fuck out of them with my mace. If it doesn't die to the initial burst, I just block/side step and take swings after their combos while my stamina recovery does its thing. Depending on how things progress, I'll probably keep playing with a shield, and hide behind my shield while I kill enemies with multiple dots.

I left this tent in the first town and dropped a bunch of stuff beside it day 7 and it was still there day 113. Same with the fireplace and alchemy thing I had set up in flower town.
>Are bags you drop on the ground ever disturbed by npcs in towns or in the wild? In towns without homes, can you reliably leave your long term stockpile shit on the floor in a bag without it ever being garbage collected?
This I'm not sure about. In the wild outside of town I think those may reset after some time.
>Im not getting the feeling i can manually overcome these fights with raw player skill. Am i wrong?
To a point you can. Just depends on how long you want to drag the fight on. Attack patterns are predictable and easy enough to avoid but some bigger monsters have a lot of health and would require no mistakes to win.

Also spell-wise, there are a bunch of combos, try them and remember to read your status effects. There are several basic spells, and these interact with different sigils in different ways and are not restricted to the same element type. For example, Spark in a wind sigil actually casts lightning. Some of these effects may SEEM useless, but read your status effects carefully, and experiment heavily.

I decided to man up and get magic, the conversion ratio is 5 health and stam for 20 mana which is actually pretty decent considering the trade off and mana cost of spells. Learning magic is a pain since it's the same "talk to npc and pay 50 silver to learn ability" but it is what it is. Flamethrower is a fun spell you can learn from the watchers at the center, turned even more fun once I got the ethereal lantern, a lantern with infinite durability, from the Blue Counsel quest series.

Chakrams are rather underwhelming in terms of damage and range so I dropped them and just use a bow for pulling and debuffing. I've been using bleed weapons on anything that bleeds(went from Fang mace to Taurasor Axe) and the Rune magic sword on anything that doesn't. All I've been wearing is Master Trader gear as mana hasn't been an issue for me.

this. the game is clearly incomplete and has some design flaws at its core.
there is no actual survival. you can't lose. whenever you die you just respawn close by without any losses, no items lost, no experience lost, no money lost. nothing.
the co-op is fundamentally broken. it works like a dark souls blue phantom, rather than actual co-op. you help the "host" player but you don't get any progress or rewards yourself.
the 3 main storylines are very short, and they don't tie up into a bigger overarching plot like you'd expect from these kinds of games.

Tried everything I could think of to make shields decent, but there's just too many demerits.
>blocking attacks is less stamina efficient than running the fuck away
>you need to have stamina food and water going into every non-trivial fight in order to have enough stamina to block and attack
>blocking is useless against multiple opponents
>blocking breaks your shield really quickly, meaning you need to repair every few tough enemies
>blocking doesn't help against spells, so you still need to dodge that shit anyways
>against harder enemies, you'll need to try to create distance all the time to regenerate your stability and stamina
>half the mobs in the game will do their attack combo and then immediately dodge, either giving you no window or opportunity to attack or as I like to call it: makes you whiff and waste your stamina
>using a shield means using a 1h weapon which means shitty range
>putting up the Confusion debuff with Shield Slam hinders you against most enemies since you'll be constantly knocking them down, and most knocked down enemies take little to no damage while knocked down
I could see some frost/axe+shield build working, where you slow/cripple your enemies to death, or some thief build that spams debuffs and then hides behind a shield while the enemies die to DoT. Either way, you'd still want a ton of stamina cost reduction gear and buffs, because blocking destroys your stamina bar. And that's assuming stamina cost reduction works with blocking, which I haven't tested. Checked some shield builds on jewtube, but all the ones I watched were barely using the shield and just tanking hits or dodging/sprinting away.

I use shield early game until I get runic magic, then I keep the lexicon in my off hand at all times. Runic prefix is too good to pass up for the "no lexicon" version, especially since it boosts the damage of basically everything. My entire strategy revolves around running backwards and spamming Runic Trap (Shim+Fal) while the enemy runs into it, and if I have the time and space I detonate the trap (Shim+Shim) AFTER they run into it. Basically it's Shim, Fal, Shim, wait, Shim. If I miss the timing I can just Fal again instead of Shim and drop a new trap. I can also use Fal>Shim to shoot them with lightning instead if you don't want to chase me.
Early game yeah, it's pretty much just block/tank and counterattack. It doesn't really work for shit against later enemies, but then that leaves me to wonder what DOES work against them, besides kiting and dropping traps.
