LA Noire tech actually scans faces of actors while talking and records the face as a texture that is used in real time like an animated gif stretched over the mesh.
This is just a detailed 3D scan that can then be modelled and animated any way they want.

I like the progress on implementing oblivion into OpenMW that has been made so far. Attached is a video showing off some open source reimplementation of whatever Bethesda used for face generation. Doesn't work quite right yet but I don't think it's been worked on for very long. Also, note that vid related's content is all in a fork of the OpenMW engine, but a lot of this guy's work has been merged into the main version so I think this will eventually make its way in.

That's because DMC5 used different faces from the actors. So you're getting mocap data from the voices who have different faces from the actor and so the tweaking they had to do to the animations to prevent any weird clipping and whatnot makes it look uncanny valley.

It's not even the fact they're using the same engine for me, really. Many developers use old engines they've modified extensively, it's the fact Bethesda has done suck a hack-job of it. Mocap enters the realm of uncanny valley where it's almost-realistic models performing almost-realistic movements but it's not quite natural, so it looks unsettling. It's like the hair in the Witcher 3, for example. It almost moves like real hair but not quite, so it just looks wrong. Mocap needs to be severely adjusted to make it look okay.
