It seems it uses your 3DS and the Japanese game's files to generate an translation .cia which you then install via FBI as a game update. If something fucks up, look for a different dump of the game.
The excuse given for the download not just being a .cia is legality, so one guy can probably upload his patch for everyone else. I have no idea if it'll work with Citra. Also, a patch for the Android version will come out in a few days.

Just about to start case 3 and my god this is fantastic. The way they use the space around them for the deduction parts in case 2 is stellar. I also like how this is pulling from Investigations in that not every case is going to be in a courtroom which makes things feel fresh and opens new avenues. I like Ryu more than I thought I would because he's just your average kid who decides to take the role of an attorney meaning we get to see him learning and grasping the fundamentals unlike Nick and Apollo who came in with a want to be an attorney and the knowledge from being taught. Ryu is just barebones ground zero. Also I love the time period. I think it's lent itself well to twists and the like The Japanese just recently opening borders so there are certain things they have no idea about
If this keeps going like this, DGS will be ranked high in my list of favorite games.

Just finished case 3 the way they brought the jurist system back in this game is kinda how I'd like it brought back in mainline. Just have six jurists chosen and shown. Have them interact as the case unfolds. The closing argument is also a really neat mechanic even if it is just another cross examination.

This is what's pissing me off about the whole thing. Fan translations have always had ties with piracy. If the company wants people to buy it, they should sell it to us themselves. Since they won't, then fuck them. Trying to make so you have to have a paid for version of the game is retarded and I intrinsically hate the team responsible for this translation because of it. From what I hear, the quality is nowhere near as good as the Investigations 2 fan translation either. I would have paid for that because it was basically professional quality. This, though, the fact that they want people to buy the game first to play their basic bitch translation is beyond stupid. I'm still holding out hope someone hacks an apk.

They're already trespassing when making unofficial mods/patches/translations - same goes for the homebrewfags with their holier-than-thou attitude: They're already breaking the terms for the consoles and associated services as soon as they work on homebrew methods.
Some Wii projects (like Fatal Frame) had the retarded-as-fuck 'Riivolution' method that required the original disc, but it was piss easy to reverse-implement and just make a prepatched ISO later on (which happened in hours, at most). Then Vesperia PS3 was going to use "r3volution" to ensure the same thing and… they ended up dropping the idea due to being unable to implement it properly (probably because it would've ended just like Riivolution did). Thankfully they did that before the 'Remaster' was announced, so it's still a viable option to play.
Of course, pissing off the companies isn't a good idea either, directly linking to the patched rom/image would be risky as fuck, but that's why xdelta patching exists.
On a somewhat related note, Mato's blog recently covered a bunch of opinions on twatter about fantranslation and its views by the industry. Several results are discussed, including logical reasonable employers that consider fanwork but ask the new hires to refrain from doing so from that point onward… But also (of course) the direct dismissers who instantly reject anything and anyone associated with fanTLs.
