Do you guys remember Simpleplanes? The derpy little sandbox flight sim game where the devs hardly ever release updates? Well they just did and it's fucking awesome. Among the updates are:
>helicopter main rotors and tail rotor
>catapult launcher on the USS Beast
>arresting cables (for use with arresting hook) on the USS Beast
>arresting hook (for use with arresting cables)
>autopilot mode
>winch and cable system for helicopters
>magnet attachment for winch
>hollow fuselage
Personally, making working helicopters are difficult for me even with the new parts. However, I managed to convert one of my Cessna lookalike planes into an autogyro using a heli main rotor with the throttle inputs disabled (pics related). Flies amazingly well and I'm thinking of publishing it.

How do governors work? The percentage you set seems to be the throttle at which they turn on but that doesn't seem useful. I want it so I can turn my rotors on slowly but the minimum engine power is huge and no matter what I do the rotors start spinning at max speed once I increase the throttle past the governor percentage.

A governor keeps the rotors spinning at a fixed rate of rotation, independent of throttle input. Blade pitch is a separate input.

I think I get how it works now but there's no setting for governor rpm, only the throttle % it engages at. And there's a warning for going over rpm but there's no way to see rpm otherwise so it's impossible to manage rotor speed accurately without a governor.

When in doubt, it never hurts to take a look at one of the pre-made aircraft and how the parts are used on it to better understand the inner workings of the game.
Might as well dump what I made anyway. The A-4 lookalike/John Mccancer was my latest, taking advantage of the new arresting wires. Shame that the Bouge class escort carriers don't have any. My pusher prop fighter can take off from it fine. The modernized turbo prop COIN varient is great at strafing trucks too. And yes, I did manage to shoot down a bomber with my SPAAG truck's guns.

Another issue is there's only 5 different inputs. So for a tiltrotor you have to use trim for rotor angle, but then you have no way to trim, and even if you did you can't set trim to affect rotor cyclic. It would be really nice to have an arbitrary number of custom inputs and a way to script things.

I'd like a mod that truly factors in weight and power properly, it's far too easy to just jack around and end up with something that should not exist. Honestly it just needs at least 4 player rooms and some missions to go with it. AA is so stupidly deadly that I think it would be amusing to try and take on a WW2 carrier group with a bunch of friends and their custom torpedo bombers. Maybe some bomber interception missions as well. It seems like it would be super easy to have a mission editor in the game.

You can put rotors on top of each other. Set collective(alt) to yaw and fiddle with invert so they're in the right direction. Or use a rudder.

Yes, that's me recording too. That Agaion was a bitch to mod to get it to fly properly. I had to edit the XML file of the thing to give it ridiculous amounts of thrust. I tried to also install AA missile and guns on it but that failed.
