Just released today, anyone else playing, what are you going to build? About to start ultimate with a level 1 character, haven't decided on build besides being Oathkeeper yet.

<Notable changes

>New class

>New zones and quests (about same length as Malmouth expansion)

>New mobility augments used on medals, add things like leap and teleport which can be used to cross cliffs/walls etc.

>End game 'rogue light' dungeons with tons of randomization and debuffs like the arena

>Can skip difficulties on new characters if you've already it on a different character

New mastery class is up on grimtools if you want to check out their skills.

https://www.grimtools.com/calc/

<Torrent

You'll need the other expansion and base game too. This is just a CODEX version by a scene uploader on rarbg. Looks fine but haven't tried it as I'm a good goy and bought the expac.

Also of note would be Occultist because of the 'Path of Tree' exclusive which converts physical damage to acid and poison, and many of the oathkeeper skills having optional sidegrades that also change the damage type to acid or poison.

>About to start ultimate with a level 1 character

I've seen the devs do this and it looks like utter cancer. Mobs take forever to die, you take huge hits. Plus you get the -50% to resistances without having any of the gear/enchants to buff it up since you lack the level and rep.

Best way to do it is probably play through veteran mode and just skip NG+ going straight to NG++.

I'm assuming it was more for people who have already beaten the game once or twice, acquired lokarr's set and are ready to pound some ass straight out of the gate rather than a freshly made character with nothing in their shared stash to work with.

>ms. big tits from AoM's loading screen is finally in the game

>they're as big as her head

oh yes

48ac9d  No.16296830

>>16296765

It's actually not that bad, you start with a bunch of skill and stat points and level fairly quickly, had my attack skill maxed by lvl 5 I think.

I honestly enjoy the added challenge, even on veteran the start is way too easy and boring if you're familiar with the game.

Quests also give a fuckload of experience, just finished the first main quest by killing the boss in Burial Hills (second portal) and got 10 levels worth of exp when turning it in. Got another 2 per quests (turn in scrap, aether shard and talk to respec chick) granting a total of 16 level ups.

And if you have a character on Ultimate, you should have a ton of levelling gear in your stash.

>>16296788

You actually don't get devotion points for free, I think they just added more shrines.

48ac9d  No.16296833

>>16296781

Yeah it's great, pirate it if you're unsure.

8e9bdf  No.16296900

>>16296817

Yeah, but that's not going to help you with resistances much, you'll start with -50% in the top and -25% in the bottom. Overall you'll have no resistance even with lokarr.

I'm going to miss seeing her on the load screen

>>16296830

It's 4 skill points and 4 attribute points right? I plan on trying it eventually at least but not too sure that'll help. If you level real quick compare to veteran might be worth it. Thinking about it now, I wonder if running out of quests while leveling is an issue.

Hopefully if there are any kinks they'll be worked out quick.

Only if you struggle and get rekt, it looks a bit overwhelming but is fairly straight forward.

Also there's basically unlimited respecs so don't worry about fucking up.

Pretty much use the constellation to supplement your build, get nodes that improve your damage types and get defensive ones if you feel squishy.

If you make a character and know roughly what kind of stuff you want, post again and I could give some more concrete suggestions

Running occultist/oathkeeper It's pretty easy sailing. Absurd durability with Blood and other defensive cooldowns, damage is.. passable not fantastic. It's AoE options are pretty rough is the main issue.

48ac9d  No.16297310

>>16297210

>It's AoE options are pretty rough is the main issue.

The Aegis of Menhir (and the upgrade that makes it hit multiple targets) is decent aoe + CC. the passives Smite and Shatter Smash help too.

But I agree to some extent, getting some devotion aoe proc asap.

I imagine Eye of Reckoning will be the go-to AoE skill. Also as you ramp up Retaliation, you'll get some 'passive AoE' damage.

f9fcda  No.16297387

downloading, disappointed by lack of spears (favorite type of weapon), but I did notice it has shotguns. are they good enough to build a character on?

if not, i'll just play 2h halberds

2eeb55  No.16297395

>>16297310

Eh, shield throw is only 4 targets and has a pretty massive point investment to get any real return from it. Smite and shatter are way better in that respect.

Yeah, you need those devotions to deal with the pack sizes that FG has.

>>16297387

Yes you can build a 2 handed ranged character. 2 handed ranged weapons all play the same, 2 handed melee weapons all play the same too. Differences being attack speed, damage range and the like. at least until you grab the axe/sword/mace devotions

48ac9d  No.16297415

>>16297395

The shield does really good damage though and the Reprisal adds retaliation damage. I'll probably go Soldier for that Counterstrike and focusing a bit on retaliation and then picking up Blade Arc with Clean Sweep seems like a good way to increase my AoE. Zolhan's Technique will be another nice one.

2eeb55  No.16297430

>>16297415

Issue is that at minimum to fully max it out target wise is 11 points minimum to get it to hit 4 targets. And that's where it stops. Another 12 points to get enough retaliation damage to matter with the skill refresh.

It's good but it's a massive investment for a middling AoE because of the hard target cap. You'd be better off splashing something for better options. Even blitz is a better AoE skill

Fuckin hell that was a fun ride. Top tier boss battles, now to level a dozen oathkeeper builds and do it all over again. Tons of variety throughout the trip leading up to Korvaak, the desert theme was just there to trick you after all. Spoilers because it's pretty far into the expac but damn I'm loving these new maps.

I noticed they went pretty crazy with the MI drops too so I've my fingers crossed that there's a bunch of brand new build-enabling pieces just like AoM did to their weapons.

>>16297387

The new MI halberds are pretty close to spears even if you can't figure out a build around them you can transmog it on your wep as an illusion. Shotguns/2h ranged weapons in general have plenty of cool as fuck builds worth toying around with. Easiest to work with would be demo/inquisitor due to fire strike & inq's built-in ranged-only skills.

e9598d  No.16297690

Is oathkeeper/necro a good combo? Seems like it has some aura buff that could benefit the skeletons? Or oath/occultist, but not for the minions, for like debuffs and heals.

Kinda new to the game.

2eeb55  No.16297693

>>16297690

Oath necro would work, but it'd take some loving. Oathkeeper has more synergy for Occultist than necro due to damage type overlap.

Both would work though, occultist is far easier to do though and would require less gear/knowledge.

Just wanted to drop a protip since there seem to be a few newer players around.

There's a dedicated 'pick up' key for looting which is a great QoL feature, just tweak the loot filter so only things you actually want to loot are shown.

Are there any recommended or required mods I should have? Or is it just get whatever the fuck you want?

f85496  No.16299238

>>16298803

Vanilla first time around obviously because there are no must-have mods, afterwards if you ever want to play around with char editing to test out builds easily you can use GD Stash, as for QoL mods Grim Internals are pretty cool with things like floating health bars above bosses, buff & debuff timers and other useful info.

The anon above mentioned the pick up key and it's a godsend that every diablo clone should come with - GI takes it a step further for hoarder autists by picking up all items except the ones you filtered so you don't even have to press any keys at that point. It can be turned off if that's your preference but nice to have around. There's probably a bunch of mods on their forums but that's mostly if you're bored with the base game

>>16298273

Blasting through the main quests to the higher difficulties is always the fastest way to level. Ultimate is where the quest xp starts to have an impact. And yeah starting off with an hour of crucible to unlock extra devotion points makes the process way smoother. Complete 10 waves, take your 3 points and reset a few times

I started playing this again yesterday, having not touched it since vanilla release. I picked the skellymancer + occultist, it seems quite fun. Cleared through warden with a friend playing inquisitor something. Neither of us were really interested in the new class…it looks rather boring.

Question for those who are more up to date on te current game: is rep grinding still a necessary thing? Last time I played maxing rep to do nemesis bosses was the big thing, and grinding rep is never my cup of tea.

426e45  No.16299538

>>16299411

Endgame farming is either done in the standalone arena DLC or in the new 'rogue light' dungeon called Shattered Realm, see OP pic or their site.

Rep is fairly easy to get passively by killing bosses and while the rewards can be nice (mainly the augments) I've never found myself hardcore grinding them.

Also buy the rep boosting writs for new characters if you can.

19034d  No.16299564

>>16299411

Yes, but it depends on the faction. It's pretty easy to max beast and cthonic rep by Ultimate, but it'll be a pain in the ass for the nemeses that actually matter.I'm sure someone will trade you some warrants to speed the process up though. Faction-wise, the new mandates make it easy to grind rep just through quests.

>>16297693

Both classes have great vitality RR, so it's just a matter of good gearing to make a decent build with them. Something shield-based to take advantage of all those WPS going through oathkeeper's auto-attack.

9f66b9  No.16299583

Despite enjoying tons of games like this, this is a tad bit boring. Is it just the beginning that's kinda dull or is it always dull?

I really want to enjoy seeing as it looks pretty neat but I feel like it's not that great. Also feel like normal difficulty is a waste of time, gonna ramp that shit up.

426e45  No.16299615

No reason to not play veteran, level faster, more drops, less braindead. Elite and Ultimate ramp things up even further.

Starting with a lvl 1 character on Ultimate feels pretty good, but you'll have to reach that difficulty on a different character first.

The first expansion was really good so expecting the new one to be too, but levelling an Oathkeeper so haven't touched it yet.

Nah they can be fun, although a tad on the squishy side. The game definitely suffers a bit early on with not switching up the environment for a while and also not being super challenging but getting through it shouldn't take too long.

As for builds your best option is for a caster focused one. Some notable skills you could build around:

<Arcanist

Pretty much all Arcanist skills are fairly good, not sure if they have fixed flash freeze but it used to be pretty bad as it didn't deal damage if resisted (like most bosses would).

>Panetti's Replicating Missile

Your bread and butter early game, gets decent aoe with a few upgrades. Deals mainly 'elemental' damage (fire, cold and lightning combined, ~33% of each) so fits in any caster build you make.

>Iskandra's Elemental Exchange

Not great value for caster build

>Callidor's Tempest

Can be used as a main skill but I like the sidegrade that gives it a CD but adds knockback and more damage.

>Trozan's Sky Shard

Never played around with it much personally (due to my build choices) but it's pretty good for cold/lightning based builds, which Inquisitor just so happens to synergize with.

>Albrecht's Aether Ray

Really fun skill and the best single target DPS choice for Arcanist, no AoE but can be added with devotion procs

>Devastation

Great AoE skill, goes well with AAR, but any deep Arcanist build should realistically get this since it's just very good overall.

>Mirror of Ereoctes & Maiven's Sphere

Great defensive skills

>Nullification

Some debuffs are nasty, good value point.

>Reckless Power & Star Pact

Get one of them depending on your build.

<Inquisitor

Again most skills are good and would only be perceived as bad if your build is not made with them in mind.

You wont really get much use out of the gun skills since neither of the two classes has a basic attack replacer it's best to stick to casting in my opinion.

>Rune of Haggard

Good for cold damage builds, really high potential damage.

>Rune of Kalastor

Not played with it much but looks good on paper for fire damage builds.

>Storm Box of Elgoloth

I've heard that its damage is not great but can be very effective at applying devotion procs

>Word of pain (and Death Sentence)

If you're doing an aether damage build the final upgrade is great for reducing aether resistance.

>Flames of Ignaffar

Can't really give an opinion, always thought its range to be annoyingly short and would rather use AAR. Worth trying though, don't think it's terrible.

>Aura of Censur

Reduces enemy elemental resistance, really good no matter your build.

>Word of Renewal & Inquisitor Seal

Okay defensive skills, something you lack so worth getting.

>Horn of Gandarr

It's okay, helps if you get fucked up by enemies swarming you.

I didn't really mention passives, they're all good except for the gun ones (as it's not great synergy with Arcanist).

Anything with appropriate elemental damage depending on what skills you build around.

Later on you'll find yourself looking more at Dagger, Scepters and magic foci offhands as these tend to be more itemized around elemental damage and often have skill bonuses for spells.

You can respec everything, fairly cheaply at that. Attribute points though you'll have to use a quest reward potion for, of which you'll get a few per difficulty in the Ashes of Malmouth expansion.

Generally you'll want to dump nearly everything into physique, with Arcanist and Inquisitor masteries your spirit will be naturally high and the weakpoint is going to be health.

>>16299906

Oh and I'd even encourage to (ab)use the skill respeccing a bit. It's often not worth putting points into the mastery unless you can unlock a new skills, so maybe dump everything into an offensive spell then when you later maybe want to switch to a different one higher up in the master, shift other points into the mastery and immediately unlock the desired skill.

Another tip, don't spread your points too thin early on. I understand that it can be tempting to try different skills but try to max your main damaging skill asap. Once you've done that look around and see which skills/passive might make for good value points with low investment.

I encourage you to try different ones for the purpose of seeing how they work and if you'd like to invest further into them, but splitting your points between 3-4 different damaging skills early on is silly.

But I can definitely see Torzan being good, however you could still use PRM in combination with Torzan since cold damage boosts PRM in a decent fashion.

I went with Rune of Kalastor instead of Haggard, the carpet bombing is well worth it, you just need to get used to the arming timer.

You're right about Box of Elgoloth, wish it lasted longer, having to reapply it every 5 seconds can be a pain, but it hits often.

Word of pain is an ok debuff, every class needs to have one.

Flames of Iggnafar is a huge disappointment because it has no range.

Word of Renewal is a life savior, but you mustn't rely on it too much, cast Horn of Gandarr right afterwards to get to safety and collect yourself.

Aura of Conviction works, I guess.

As you can see, I went in the completely opposite direction you did and went all in with the gun passives, shooting all sorts of elemental damage in a cone. There's an unreliable random aspect to it, but it has worked for me well enough to make it this far.

Their intentions with the mobility skills was obviously not to make it like d2/poe where you teleport around from map to map but they still are a nice addition for gap closers or as a method of getting the fuck away from the dozen of bosses preparing to surround you.

That being said if you reduce your cd's enough as a shadow strike build or go blademaster with blitz/SS you're basically teleporting yourself through maps with zero downtime anyway. If that's your style there's a bunch of ways to go around it, pic related being my two favorites. Soulrend spellbreaker at a 1.6 sec cooldown and aether SS reaper at a 2.1. If you use Belgotian's Carnage the cooldowns become nonexistent and you'll be zipping from one enemy to another. Aside from an extra minor convenience, these mobility augments have not added anything to the game that did not exist in the first place and you can speendrun through maps all you like. It just wasn't handed to the player on a silver platter from the start of the game

The only pets that scale with your stats are ones that in the tooltip say 'Scales with player bonuses', though a few pets that come from items will scale based on your level, though not influenced by your stats.

Ethereal deal Aether damage, one thing you could use is 'Purified Salt' (pic related) which grants an aura of aether resistance and is rather easy to acquire, see if you can craft it at your smith.

Other than that, increase the skill points and find gear with + pet health.

You can also search for 'Pet' in the Devotion tree and have it highlight all nodes that grant bonuses to pets. Looking through it I found the following 3 have nodes that grant specifically Aether resistance to pets, plenty also increase health and other resistances.

>Empty Throne

>Staff of Ratosh

>Light of Empyrion

Once you're further in the game, there's also an augment that grants minions aether resistance. But before you get there you'll find other augments that grant + pet health, just check the rep vendors.

If you're playing a Purifier you don't have very many CC options early game, Flashbang can be okay but it's far from ideal, your best bet is probably a casual point in Stun Jacks.

I'd suggest focusing on levelling up firestrike and getting the explosive strike upgrade to make it aoe.

Pic related is how I'd recommend skilling a low level Purifier based around guns. After this you can focus on either mastery but Demolitionist is probably the best, max fire strike and explosive strike and work towards 'Blast Shield', an amazing survivability skill.

Get a casual point in each of the following along the way: 'Temper', 'Static Strike', 'Full Spread' and 'Ulzuin's Wrath'

Mortar Trap can be decent too but needs a bit more investment so best to save for later.

I wouldn't recommend going further than word of renewal in inquisitor early game, but do get that skill since it's relatively low investment and grants good survivability.

After you have Blast Shield, both masteries are about equally worth to invest in, depends on what looks interesting to you. I'd probably argue that Inquisitor has some better skills once you've got Blast Shield.

Based on having just started playing it last night, the beginning is absurdly easy. It's fun, but as of yet I've had no challenge, although maybe that's because I'm going necromancer/demolitionist. Will try a melee mastery next to see how it compares.

There are plenty of mobs in lots of the packs at the start, but they're all criminally weak.

I'm only on veteran difficulty though, so it'll probably be more satisfying when Elite is unlocked.

Keep in mind that was the very first zombie at level one. No skills, no gear, no devotions. After I killed another so I leveled, having an actual skill to attack with made it go much faster.

Additionally, you can't do ultimate from level 1 until you've reached ultimate naturally on another character. The quest exp in ultimate is insane at low levels. Turning in the first quest jumped me from level 6 to 20. I recently finished killing cronley and am level 56. So it's mostly for people to powerlevel new characters very quickly.

Can't say that I've played an Occultist focusing on acid and poison (rather than minions) but I don't believe they have been nerfed, the Oathkeeper mastery adds a lot synergy with poison and acid if you don't mind a more melee oriented playstyle.

>>16307324

It's not that crazy, Oathkeeper has some sidegrades to major abilities that turn them into vitality and acid/poison damage.

The main 'Righteous Fervor' has one and their 'Summon Guardian' (which is great) as well, one of the exclusive skills 'Path of the Three' turns 15% of both fire and physical into poison damage, adds bonus to poison and vitality damage amongst other things.

There are also items and probably some legendary sets that can turn more fire and physical into vitality.

The main things from Necromancer I could see having good synergy would be 'Spectral Binding' + 'Spectral Wrath', 'Necrotic Edge', 'Reaping Strike', 'Mark of Torment' and 'Harbinger of Souls'.

One issue with this combo is that Necromancer doesn't get very much advantage from the poison/acid aspect (except Harbinger of Souls which boosts its damage) but that's fine.

Another thing to note is that it's not ideal for the spin2win Eye of Reckoning since it deals physical, fire and lightning and the only way to convert its damage is through other skills like Path of the Three, but that's only 15%.

Play around with the calculator to spot synergies and stuff https://www.grimtools.com/calc/

Devs started adding in those triple-class bonuses on gear around AoM since most of these stats are universal regardless of which mastery you go with. It's just meant to make the items more flexible for a wider variety of builds.

Oftentimes you might not need half the stats of the item for it to be useful on the build. My SS Aether reaper uses 4 set Clairvoyant and that thing is built around devastation, doombolt and warlocks in general. Still works perfectly for shadow strike on a build which is neither arcanist or occultist so yeah stats on that helm would let it fit into a lot of stuff if you wanted it to.

I've found that gear tends to be in a -10 +10 range if you're killing mobs close to your level.

Higher difficulty increases rarity (found so many legendary items on my Ultimate playthrough from level 1), but not sure if it also affects level of items.

Also attack speed is a top tier stat and will generally mean massive dps boost compared to weapons without, chances are you found a nice roll with attack speed and other things like flat damage or high % piercing.

Gear actually has subcategories which changes attribute requirement, armor value and what stats they tend to roll.

Pants only come in two categories, 'Heavy Pants' and just plain 'Pants'. The former has a higher physique requirement but grants higher armor value.

Chest armor for example comes in three, plain, heavy and 'Caster Chest', where these have the lowest physique requirement but also the lowest armor value and adds a spirit requirement on top of the physique one.

Compare some equal lvl items by yourself if you want.

You're gonna want to dedicate a shared stash slot for all of your crafting materials, components and potions. Iron bits are valuable for late game crafting but you don't wanna sell off anything besides junk gear. Judging by your earlier pics I would always put an armor component in the belt slot since that increases armor globally rather than into a single body slot and then chest/legs/shoulders/hat apply resist components. Weapon is pretty obvious - searing ember, flintcore bolts or whatever else that helps with fire damage. Hand components have cast/attack speed and lifesteal so look out for those later. You'll notice how those sockets will pretty much carry your ass through low level content since 99% of gear at that level sucks.

Really depends, but I remember Diablo having a bunch of armor with strength requirements that had higher values.

But generally in looters like these, better rolls > higher lvl. But higher lvl = higher rolls, doesn't mean that it will have the right rolls though.

It was the act of logging itself shitting up the frames, no difference if I let it log 10 minutes worth of fights or the very first encounter after starting the game.

I'd be happy with just a death recap where it showed damage done and taken the last 5-10 seconds.

That's what I was thinking, but maybe they set it up like this so you can be either Soldier or Oathkeeper + a caster like Arcanist or Occultist.

But it's still odd, Soldier seems weak as a secondary mastery if you want to focus on spells rather than melee or ranged. Oathkeeper makes a bit more sense but its damage types of primarily fire and physical doesn't have any meaningful overlap with masteries that are capable of dealing chaos damage.

970bfa  No.16312072

>>16312046

Just because it says "caster off-hand" on the item card doesn't mean that you have to go caster if you wear one.

One of the major Eye of Reckoning sets has a caster off-hand.

Fuck, just as I wanted to fix my build, Grimtools goes offline.

bb8d40  No.16312157

>>16312072

Yeah but both masteries have a ton of shield synergy and doing a melee build with a useless off-hand (as opposed to DW, shield or 2H) is the worst option available.

The only ranged option would be guns/crossbow and again, using a caster-offhand seems very suboptimal since you're missing out on massive damage by wielding just 1 weapon and miss out on the defensive perks of a shield.

Caster off-hands are good for casters because they don't care about weapon damage, instead they simply sacrifice a bit of defence which tends to be fine since they use ranged spells.

So in conclusion, caster off-hands are pretty shit if you rely on weapon damage as your main source of murder.

>One of the major Eye of Reckoning sets has a caster off-hand.

Doesn't sound very appealing, seems like going for a 2H build is optimal for squeezing out more damage from that skill.

Not actually seen any of those before, good tip will keep my eyes extra peeled for that. Has bothered me that RF has burning damage but no fire at all, just seems odd.

Also I've found that cycling between Overguard and Ascension to be a great survivability strategy since they both have a 20 sec CD and 10 duration, so one is always active.

Then stacking a ridiculous amount of 'heal when x HP' for layers upon layers of defence. Got these two items (replacing shoulders at 75 I think) alongside Menhir's Will and the Tortoise devotion.

Other than that I've been focusing on resistances, retaliation, health, shield stuff alongside some attack speed and physical damage for dps.

The issue is their price and the necessity of a currency tab (or 2-3 tabs will become used for currency) and at least twice the amount of tabs that the game provides you with if you want to craft and/or trade with players.

To buy the package of 6 premium ones you pay 20$ worth of funbux or 180 if you buy individual regular ones (though you still need to buy 20$ worth) and a currency one costs 75 which is ~7.5$, that's more than the Crucible DLC.

Sure they go on sale sometimes but the pure kikery of this is ridiculous.

Add 5$ to your purchase of premium stash tabs and you can buy the base game of Grim Dawn instead.

c5559b  No.16315452

>>16315422

Depends on what you want to do with it. If you wish to focus on shields and/or retaliation Soldier is probably your best option.

If you want to build around the Eye of Reckoning (spin2win) I think a 2H is your best option and since it lacks modifiers to change damage types I figure Inquisitor is your best choice since it has synergy with both fire and lightning damage, two major components of the skill.

>Vitality damage

Either Shaman or Necromancer seem solid, the former for 2H the latter for either 2H or shield.

>Poison & Acid damage

Occultist should work well, also doesn't matter if you want to use 2H or shield. But they have some minor retaliation synergy so shield might be superior.

Both Inquisitor and Demolitionist look like good fits, I'd probably argue that Inquisitor has better skills.

That just leaves the healing skills and the summons so if you like having to manage a team then you could go for that. Otherwise, you're better off going with Soldier, Demolitionist, Occultist or Necromancer.

Were you looking for suggestions on Blademaster builds or other mastery combos entirely?

As for this build, I feel like you're spending a few too many points on skills with a bit of a diminishing return and skipping many that can be a huge asset with even 1 point.

>Skills

Pic is how I'd change Soldier (should be same amount of points unless I fucked up), I'd probably put ~4 more points in Menhir's Will and try to advance the Soldier master a bit and aim for Deadly Momentum as it will severely increase your dps.

As for Nightblade, maxing both Pneumatic Burst and Veil of Shadow this early seems like an overkill, if you feel like you don't need all that survivability consider lowering them and spend it towards increasing your offence, preferably work towards Deadly Momentum.

>Devotions

Eeh, some questionable choices in my opinion. Jackal especially seems like an odd pick.

Check out Assassin's Blade of offence and for further defence Tortoise. The real thing to consider later is how to get to the high cost devotions and what you'll need to unlock in order to get the affinity points required for them.

>Censoring character name

You know the game uses a lobby system and no one can contact you with that name. Or did you use your RL name like a true dork?

Could work okay if you're willing to focus on Eye of Reckoning, not only does it benefit the most from 2H weapons but it's also physical + fire + lightning, where shaman helps with physical and lightning and oathkeeper with physical + fire.

The Wind Devil would add -35% elemental resistance alongside the -35% physical, fire and bleeding from Guardians of Empyrion.

Mogdrogen's Pact would be solid survivability and Brute Force seems like a nice dps boost, though don't know if Eye of Reckoning can trigger those on hit passives.

To me that's exactly how you'd want to build for Eye of Reckoning. It uses a % of your main hand weapon damage so a 2H is going to be superior over any other option.

But yeah if you don't want to use that skill, Shaman is a questionable choice

No.

Cadence is a good skill but it's a very slow start and doesn't start to shine until a bit later. You could skip the dualwield skills from Nightblade for now and level with a 2H and Forcewave for a bit.

What Cadence has over Savagery is that Cadence affects multiple enemies which is really nice, also Shaman only has 2H weapon passives whilst Nightblade only has DW passives.

Shaman and Nightblade also don't have the best damage type overlaps as Shaman focuses on lightning and vitality whilst Nightblade is all about cold and poison.

Between Trickster and Blademaster I think the latter is better.

When you enter the new expansion town in either Elite or Ultimate, one of the vendors sells tokens that can be traded and used on other characters to unlock the difficulty you bought it in.

When you do, the game will scale enemies to your level (i.e lvl 1 in Devil's Crossing if you're level 1) but massively increase their damage and health, apply the negative resistance to you (-25% in Elite, -50% in Ultimate) but also give you all the bags, skill points and attribute points from the previous difficulties optional quests. Around 5 attributes and 10 skill points on ultimate IIRC.

Never play on normal, always go for veteran if you don't have elite or ultimate available. But yeah even on veteran it doesn't ramp up until towards the end of the main campaign and you enter the first expansion.

There are the skeleton key dungeons (multiple level maps, die once and you're forced to reset, no portals) with random map wide modifiers and the new Shattered Realm dungeons which is supposed to be even more randomized but I haven't played those yet.

I started playing a few days ago, and I had the same feeling at first, namely that even though I was on 'veteran' it was ridiculously easy. It stops being quite so easy a little ways in. By around level 30 I had to actually micro carefully and kite shit around (necro/demo) or I'd die in half a second. A couple bosses are still easy, but some of them kicked my ass a few times before I killed them, like the ghost guy (forgot his name) that's part of the Order of Death's Vigil chain who does heavy AoE fire damage. My health went from 100-0 in about 0.5 seconds of standing in the fire, so if you didn't dodge it completely and didn't have a ton of physique it was gg.

Basically it does get harder later on even on veteran, although still not as hard as Elite most likely, although I haven't played that difficulty myself to confirm yet.

>no assassin's dagger

>no maxed spectral binding/overcapped spectral wrath

>no capped warcry and break morale

Resist reduction is the most important thing in a build, and as a physical build it's especially good because almost nothing has good phys resist. I'm also not sure what devotions you're going for, but Assassin's dagger is absolutely irreplaceable. It's 30% more damage for 5 devotion points, practically unbeatable. The way you're missing out on an easy opportunity to literally double your damage.

Focus on either cadence or transmuted forcewave and reallocate those spare points to max out Oleron's Rage for a free 12% OA. You're also getting minimal returns from counterstrike without a build centered around it. Skeletons are doing nothing without pet bonuses, and death knight isn't suited to hybrid pet builds. I don't recognize some of your gear, but https://www.grimtools.com/calc/L2Jb4bj2 is how I'd spec for a transmuted forcewave build, which is what your weapon's for. Also, pick a single damage type and stick with it, unless you're doing something with conversions (which you don't have ready access to at this level).

>>16318742

The best bleed skill in the game is transmuted blade arc, followed by your pick of cadence, ring of steel, or savagery. Except for vitality, there's no variant of bloody pox that shines as a main damage skill. It also can't take advantage of bleed damage on weapons or devotions. With bleed, you want one mastery with high-damage, high %WD bleed sources (shaman, soldier, or nightblade) and one with RR (shaman, occultist, or oathkeeper).

You could go for cold damage with maybe Drain Essence as your main single target spell whilst spamming Sky Shard and Devastation. But maybe Arcanist + Inquisitor would be better suited for a cold build.

Maybe some sort of vitality caster with Necromancer and Occultist would be fun (avoid pets if you want a more active playstyle), it's something I've considered doing but don't have experience with.

On the former I only used Crushing Verdict, on the latter I used Crushing Verdict in combination with Break Morale.

Now obviously CS deals damage when struck, and they both improve my retaliation though at the level I could put them at, only from 6.8k to 9.3k. This damage is taken into account for RF but the passive effect of enemies striking you is lost when fighting dummies.

Though another thing to keep in mind is that both Divine Mandate and Celestial Presence increase the retaliation damage taken by enemies through increasing your crit damage and reducing their physical defence.

Again, there's a bit of an unfair advantage for the Oathkeeper heavy build since I'm able to max out the skills, but even if I were to increase the relevant Soldier skills I sincerely don't believe it would come even close to the Oathkeeper damage.

I'd recommend doing Malmouth last, 99% of the enemies deal Aether damage and will annihilate you if you don't have enough resistance. You can of course brute force it, but it's going to be a pain, and probably borderline impossible on higher difficulties. FG is almost easier than the base game imo, the only thing I had trouble with was the final boss with his annoying AoE attacks. FG also doesn't have annoying city sections where you get stuck in a house every 5 seconds because you clicked on the wrong floor.

Haven't played much Occultist so I don't remember, how does the Blood of Dreeg healing component work exactly?

Is the % heal only when you cast the skill, the wording almost makes it sound as if you get healed when enemies take damage but that would be too strong. So it's just an upfront heal with some over time regeneration?

Been thinking of trying either an Occultist or Necromancer to support the Oathkeeper mastery since they added so many items with acid, vitality and chaos for Oathkeeper that it feels like there's barely any 'standard' Oathkeeper items around.

Was looking how to make a Paladin build using Rune of Kalastor and Aegis of Menhir.

So I started making the build, when I got to equipment it was as if the game had read my mind and presented me with the 'Octavius' set which converts the fire components of both skills into physical as well as the pierce one on the rune.

So I changed all devotions and was able to free up more skill points due to not needing Aura of Censur.

Thoughts on this build? Looks like it could be really good. Not entirely sure on my devotion choices but I judge it as 'good enough' for now.

The problem is that its reliant on that specific set but at least it's just a 4 part. The other gear I threw on seems like some of the better options but nothing besides Octavius is really needed.

Didn't add any augments or components (besides to weapon and shield so I could put devotions on their auras) so keep that in mind.

Playstyle would revolve around dealing damage with Rune of Kalastor,, AoE CC and CD reduction with Aegis of Menhir (plus solid damage I imagine) and gathering all enemies with Judgement as well as reducing their Defence Ability.

abf221  No.16326814

>>16326790

Not sure on the specifics of the build but there could be a reason to only put 1 point into one of the combat skills. Like if that skill does a debuff to the enemy or buffs you in some way. But overall if it is your main damage dealing skill you probably want it maxed out to get the best DPS possible. From what I remember you usually max out your best DPS skill and at the very least put 1 point into the passives that branch off of that skill and give it different properties. You can even max them if you want to build that way. All comes down to how you end up playing and what skills you use the most I think.

Putting 1 point into certain skills such as arcanist nullify is perfectly fine, that or using 1pt into something like bloody pox for easy proccing of devotions. That skill setup however makes absofuckinglutely no sense

>only 1pt blast shield

>canister bomb & random pt into ulzuin's chosen

>1pt mines have no devotion proc but canister bomb does

>completely neglecting word of renewal

>completely neglecting inq seal

>WoP maxed the fuck out

>supposedly a ranged build but only one pt into ranged expertise

Even if this build was without the inclusion of +1skills from gear that gets added on later I still can't figure out what's going on here

Random outdated ulzuin set purifier build I've pulled off the forums

https://www.grimtools.com/calc/d2jwvzlV

1pt into vindictive flame, blast shield, temper, vigor, flashbang, static strike all get boosted through +skill bonuses into giving a minor but still very valuable bonus for the character while the rest is allocated into his main damage skill, supporting damage WPS and buffs/defensive skills so he doesn't have his head caved in the moment a nemesis breathes on him. Most devotion procs are being handled by the inq WPS rather than standing around casting storm boxes and thermite mines like a dummy

>surivability took a nose dive

Inquisitor seal & blast shield are an absolute must-have to max for any purifier. Enormous damage absorb from BS while inq seal is fairly weak but has 100% uptime, can be used offensively, can proc devotions and give generous dps buffs. Pairing those damage absorbs with some nice healing devotions or better yet lifesteal with high attack rate and you'll be in a good position.

If that's purely a ranged build then there's little reason to max out storm box, rune of kalastor or horn. You'd primarily be going fire/elemental so your setup wouldn't look very different from the pics I've posted up above. The main idea is just not spreading yourself too thin and having a bunch of caster spells on a gunner means neither your guns or spells are gonna do much good.

Rune of calastor is good for crowd control because carpet bombing mobs tends to kill the weak ones and trip some healthier fuckers so for about 5 seconds they've fallen and they can't get up. Horn is the panic button for when I get swarmed. I'll try and respec again with your tips in mind, thanks.

>Rune of Kalastor maxed

>All gun passives

Decide if you want to focus on auto attacking or use spells. Rune of Kalastor is good but you're not getting much worth from it unless you really go for it.

>Storm Box maxed

Storm Box is terrible damage even if you build around it, but it's good for proccing devotions. Use it for that, if anything.

>Horn of Gandarr

Use it for CC, not worth maxing.

Pretty much what this anon said >>16326936

Here's my recommendation:

https://www.grimtools.com/calc/aZqJEP9N

3 points left for you two put 3/3 in either the one-hand or two-hand Fire Strike modifier.

Next you'll want to work either towards Inquisitor's Seal for more defence, Aura of Censure for more damage and consider maxing Demolitionist for that Brimstone upgrade since it will do a lot for your damage.

Thermite Mines can be good for their elemental res reduction, increasing your gun proc skills is okay (just turned them down a bit to conserve points) and while Chilling Rounds isn't bad, you shouldn't focus on cold damage for this build so it's not worth maxing out over other stuff.

I left Storm Box at 1 because like I said, it's good for procing devotions (such as Assassin's Mark). If you want more CC get a casual point in Demo's Stun Jacks.

>>16326966

That's why you get the Explosive Strike upgrade for Firestrike, adding solid AoE capabilities.

I also added some devotions to the build (not sure how many points you have so just put in a few) amongst those Rhowan's Crown which also assist in AoE.

But if you really want to use Rune of Kalastor because you enjoy it, go for it. It has decent synergy with your build but recognize that you're sacrificing either survivability or gun DPS for it.

I don't understand, how am I supposed to use the Seal? It's small, it requires me to stand still, so I'm just standing there, waiting for the health regeneration to kick in while mobs drench me in acid or something.

7c5630  No.16327157

>>16327115

You get it because it gives you flat damage absorption (190 at 12/12) which reduces the damage you take by that amount after it has already been reduced by your resistances and applies to all damage sources.

The sidegrade 'Null Field' also gives you a 25% chance to avoid projectiles which is massive, the cast speed penalty is also not something that severely limits a gun build.

The Arcane Empowerment upgrade also gives you crit damage which is a very valuable source of damage and the % to all damage is not bad at all.

As for how to use it, whenever you will stand still for at least a few seconds. It has a 5 second CD which means it should let you cast a new one every time you're about to start shooting enemies even if just for a few seconds.

7c5630  No.16327171

>>16327157

Oh and to be clear, that's 190 damage absorption for the entire time you stand on the seal and it doesn't get used up.

Yeah but Shieldmaiden is so good. I could settle for Scarab instead which is basically a shit version of it but costs 1 less to finish.

Also for anyone that doesn't know, devotions can actually pay for themselves. In my build I only have 3 green devotion points from the Hawk, but I am still able to use Chariot of the Dead which requires 5. That is because I first filled out a third devotion to get 5+ point, then fully unlocked the chariot which adds 3 green points before removing the third green devotion.

So the Chariot is now paying for itself.

Just thought I'd mention this technique since you made an odd choice of not maxing out the chariot and instead went for the Raven devotion which in the end costs the same as full chariot + full Hawk but is plain worse.

They recently upped the iron bit drops so it's not as important to pick everything up but I like hoarding items and grim internals automatically vacuum that shit up for me. Keep in mind with greens that there are very worthwhile MI's out there and if you luck out on a worthwhile double rare it might become better than a legendary. Most common ones would be nemesis legs/shoulders and certain rings or weapons. And although you need tons of iron bits for crafting stoneplate greaves you're more likely to run out of scavenged plating before your money stack empties out.

I normally just use sheet 2 to see the before & after on minor changes I make to my gear and see the min-max damage of what shadow strike is doing but besides it being a convenient means of gauging which direction your damage has changed I wouldn't worry about it.
