I remember many years ago, I dreamed of an RPG-maker-horror-looking game. A group of teenagers came into this haunted house, I think it was for research, like Journalism. The protagonist and his group head on through a dark hallway, where the lights cut in and out, and with each time it went dark, one of them would disappear. The protagonist was the only one left. The premise was that you would have to solve various puzzles and try to get out of the house, while hiding around the house from whoever was approaching. You eventually catch a glimpse of it and it's a little loli (somehow I knew she was the one doing it, I don't recall how). There was a mechanic where, the longer you hid in something, like a closet or cupboard, the louder you would breathe, and if it got loud enough, she could hear and kill you.
About half-way through the game, a bunch of armed military/cops or some other alphabet soup organization breaks into the house, and you hear that they're searching for a murderer hiding out there. Orders are to shoot on sight. Needless to say, if they find you, they'll kill you. They search for you in the same way, but hear you easier and are more frequent, as there's far more of them.
I remember the ending was that you left the mansion and were immediately surrounded by the armed military, the young girl next to them. She says "he's the one that kidnapped me!' and they put you down right then and there, escorting her to safety. (how "shoot on sight" didn't apply to her, I don't know).
I'm sure I've had a few others, but that was the one I recall quite distinctly.
