I am not really surprised by the fact that Google is fabricating a console, they want a share of the market as well of course. The question I keep asking myself is
WHY
would anyone want this? NO library - I think at least - , a liter glow-in-the-dark box to scam you out of your shekels you pay for shit games. Will it have the same functionalities as the PS4; quickplay, those party singing/dancing games, Netflix and other social media? Why? WHY?

>The service will launch around this summer, and it will simply be called Google Stream.
>It will cost around $14.99 a month.
>It will first be available on Android phones and the web, but will expand to iOS devices and smart TVs in 2020. The dedicated console will basically just be a rebranded Chromecast.
>It will be heavily integrated with YouTube. There will be a feature that lets you instantly pull up walkthroughs on YouTube for when you get stuck, and there will be an option to instantly upload your footage, and a feature allowing streamers to let anyone instantly play against them.
>Google will go absolutely crazy with exclusives. Think the Epic Store, but even worse. Any game that's not coming out in the next 3 months, already exclusive to another platform, or an itch.io level indie game will be Free Real Estate™ for them. At the very least, every Ubisoft game going forward will be an exclusive. This is probably somewhat paranoid, but I'd bet that a few existing games will be pulled from their existing storefronts in favor of Google Stream.
>Many of the exclusives will focus on new types of gameplay that aren't possible with existing consoles. One of the first games will be a 1000-player battle royale game with fully destructible environments.
>Many indie games that went viral on YouTube will be exclusives. I predict that the next Five Nights at Freddy's game, a sequel to Hello Neighbor, and maybe even Deltarune will all be exclusive to the service.
>Assuming Sony doesn't acquire Take Two (and therefore Rockstar), the next GTA game will be an exclusive. It will have a map at least 10 times as large as GTA V.
>The service will receive a massive backlash from hardcore gamers on an unbeforeseen level. The front page of /v/ will be almost entirely posts about the service for a few days.
>Other upcoming games that will become Google Stream exclusives include Doom Eternal, Starfield, and Beyond Good and Evil 2.
>To complement the service, Google will develop their own game engine. It will be designed to take advantage of the cloud.
>Sega's exclusives to the service will include a Sonic Adventure remake and a Jet Set Radio reboot.
>If the service fails, it will close down after 3 years. Most of the exclusive games will be released on more traditional platforms, but the more cloud-focused games will be completely lost to time.

That was a beautiful train wreck, wasn't it? Microsoft thought putting their shit software on Nokia's devices meant they'd take over Nokia's vast and rabidly loyal fanbase. Trouble is, those people loved using Symbian and were totally hyped for MeeGo. Nokia's move to WP killed both. So it's not like it started from zero, it started from negative millions because tons of formerly loyal Nokia customers hated WP before it was even out. And just as well, mobile carriers and app developers had wasted time and money preparing for a stillborn platform, so they were also furious. So everyone said: fuck Microsoft, I'll support any other platform, anything but Microsoft!
And remember how Android exploded around 2011? Because roughly at the same time, Nokia killed itself with the move to WP, and Android got good enough (with version 4 "Ice Cream Sandwich") to make people actually want to use it.

That depends on what kind of system the streaming service uses. You're assuming the actual game data will be streamed and processed locally by the user's cpu and gpu, if that's the case then yeah, ripping is theoretically possible - after pirates manage to break the strong encryption they'll probably use, of course.
But in some services the entire processing is done server-side, and all we receive is the compressed video and audio data. How are you going to "rip" or "fully download" that, other than breaking into their servers?

I really do. Not in a "this is technically excellent" sense, but in a "this is usable enough and pretty customizable" sense, contrasting to very much not-customizable iOS. Also consider, a manufacturer-customized Android can be pretty different (and often notably worse) than pure "stock" Android as Google designed it.

We've had the same 3 console companies for 3 generations. I'd like to see Google put out their own successful console just to prove that it can be done. Not like I'm going to be buying ANY console ever again, so it doesn't really matter how shit it is.
Of course if they just release an Ouya or a stream-box it will fail, but while their track record might not be great if any company has the capital to make a standard console work it's Google.

While PC gaming is dead because of redditor steamfags, and mustards who helped modern consolefags flood over to begin with, I think we're at a turning point where consoles after and including the ps3/360/wii lost their purpose as a containment platform and now it's less damaging if everyone moves to PC.
And let's not forget the threat of mobile cancer aswell.

4dd9cf No.16262843

>It's cute how devs believe that.
but it's true. you literally can't pirate a game from a video stream. the software's running remotely and you only get a video feed. and even if you do somehow manage to leak a copy of the game from a remote server, good luck getting it to run without the hardware. the closest to piracy you can do is stream without paying, but that wouldn't be pirating the game.
if you're talking about the game running locally, but assets and code being downloaded dynamically as you play, there could be a chance, but I bet the first person to put up or release software for an alt server will get shut down or worse faster than the guys who created AlterIWNet.
if you're talking about games running a la MMO (game assets stored locally running in thin client, server keeping track of game state), then it's also possible but it will be even harder to set up (need them server-side scripts, values, events, etc.) and also be subject to the previous problem.

Too bad most apps won't work unless you consent to getting your ass datamined, requiring installation of shit like xprivacy to spoof the botnet crap (e.g. location, phone state and identity, internet access). also the DRM and Jewgle's war on device ownership and rooting (Samsung KNOX, SafetyNet) is particularly infuriating and reminds of the absolute shit that was Windows RT.

anon, we're at the tipping point where Android is almost more bloated than Windows. Both require over 1 GB of RAM to run and over 1 GHz of CPU power yes, I know a 2 W SoC isn't even 10% as powerful as a desktop CPU but that doesn't change the fact that you're wasting 30% of available resources on the OS alone. I wouldn't use Android even if they paid me. the only reason to use it is because there's no other non-faggot alternative for phones and popular messaging apps run on it. Purism's Librem 5 seems promising but at $650 it's nuts.

Sure. But then, how much did a computer cost? A couple thousand, tops? Carmack had to squeeze all he could out of that. The Sega Model 2 cost $15,000, and it was based on a multi-million-dollarydoos flight simulator by Martin Marietta.

1. Mods
2. Game preservation in general, be it ROMs and emulators or projects like OpenMW
3. Indie games that violate anyone's IP
4. Controversial games
5. Lewd games

It never will. You will undoubtedly have a company who comes out against it, and fucking memes all over the companies that do all the things you said (and make no mistake, they will do all of those things), and markets to people who still want to be able to mod, devs who want to make games that big companies would absolutely collude with the big platforms to refuse to carry in order to monopolize the market, and people who want to either own physical media or at least have a downloaded copy of the game for their own use whenever… and whoever does it will fucking DESTROY those "stream games" services to the point they die off or have to massively change their tactics up to try to stay in the business
Just look at a few years ago and how sony skull fucked microsoft about games sharing, and then microsoft had to immediately reverse course on its new policy because people were absolutely going to tell microsoft to fuck off for the next gen consoles and they'd have lost billions in revenue over it.
Someone will come along and do the same, they'll be massively supported because of it, and those "streaming" platforms will either have to unfuck themselves, or die fast

My problem with this isn't even the inevitable latency issues, it's ownership of the games.
Back in the day you had the hardware, and the game in physical form. No one could take them away from you. Then came along steam, and sure you could theoretically get banned and lose your library at any time, but at least you had the game data on your pc, right? You could turn on offline mode or crack the games if you had to. Now you don't even get that. You have nothing. You have a video stream of the game that can be completely gone in the blink of an eye.
This can not be allowed to become the norm.
5b82fe No.16266656
>>16266607
Yes but you can still buy the physical media just fine. Theres still a rather large market for it in fact. And theres competition in that market for the different genres and even among the "general" category (ie: everything under the sun can be on it) from the likes of hulu, and inevitably some others will show up. And as someone else said, netflix, like youtube, is kept alive by investors and other companies basically who seek to use it to herd users into a single space and spy on them. Gamers tend to be a slightly more savvy lot than your average tech-illiterate 30 something single mom who just wants to spend all her time watching supernatural and masturbating to the main characters
A gaming platform wont work that way. At the very least because their wankoff material will be completely censored, and we all know tits make the world go round. I mean consider how much bullshit was stirred up because jiggly-titty-volley-ball 3 wasnt released in the west, and how many people bought it from play asia or such because of that fact.
If you censor and control what its allowed to the point that its only big company bullshit and at any time you may lose access to the games you paid for because "sorry we no longer stream that game because someone somewhere got offended by the patch of cloth on generic female npc #43" then people just aren't going to subscribe to it. They're going to stick with something like steam at least, but it might also open up more markets in the long run.
Yes, convenience is one thing, and having easy and quick access to the material you want is all well and good, allowing you to quickly and easily get right into what you want to do without having all the other fluff around (ie: need for the console or gaming pc). But given the technical limitations that will exist, the simple fact no one has a stable or broad enough connection 100% of the time for that shit other than fucking corporations, and the relatively low cost for consoles and adequate gaming pc setups that can play these games and will be good for half a decade or more (and with pcs are upgradable so that you dont even need to replace the whole thing, just individual parts)… its just not going to attract and maintain a crowd that can financially support it, at which point it will crash and burn
On the plus side, it WILL inevitably take all the twitch whores and other streamers away from the rest of the services, because they dont actually care about games or playing them, certainly not replaying them or playing the same game for long periods of time, its all about w/e the most recent buzz is all about in order to get attention and views and donations/subs. But actual users who try it will be disgusted and leave for reasons I've stated. It may also attract most of the "fair weather" "gamers" who only bandwagoned on for the attention… and who play candy crush and shit.. they'll move over, and stay in their containment zone just like the netflix whores
Meanwhile the rest of us will continue on the way we have, thankful to be rid of the stream whores and "gurl gamurz"

And it won't make a difference if that enormous library of games is 90% shovelware. A big effort is going to be made if Google wants to make a gaming platform that can coexist with Steam, and seeing all of Google's previous failures I'm inclined to think that this will be another flop.

We open to a dimly lit board room full of game company executives, corporate heads of tech companies and a few CIA operatives. Everyone is talking in whispers and hushed voices. There seems to be an air of mystery to the event. Suddenly the lights dim even further reveling a man in the corner who seems to be glowing. He takes a long drag off of his vaporizer and exhales a massive cloud illuminated by the subtle glow emanating from his body. He steps into the light cone at one end of a long wooden table polished to a mirror finish. A skinny Indian man stands and announces "There is no smoking in this building and that includes vapor sir." He is met by a blazing gaze from the glowing man, so intense the gaunt Indian man melts back into his chair, checking his pants for stains as he has never experienced such a fright. The glowing man takes another drag off of his vaporizer before beginning.
"Today we present to you, your next corporate strategy. We call it 'Games as a service' " The voice is raspy and seems to be in harmony with another voice as if two beings are speaking at once. "Google will host a game service through which consumers can stream games for a monthly fee from a central bank of computers that will process control requests off site and stream them to any device the consumer has available to them." "whats in it for us?" the small Indian man pipes up. "Do you have any idea the cost of hosting such a serv.." The glowing man 's gaze is cast toward the Indian and a flicker of light, reflected from the table, steaks across the glowing mans eyes. "For your service ALL information about the consumer will be streamed through your headquarters and you will have unlimited access to ALL the private data of the consumer. No consumer will be able to hide anything from you. with your advanced artificial intelligence you will be able to further enhance your user profiles and effectively create a digital clone of all users to be used in modeling consumption plans." The Indian man seems to jump in his chair and slink back down, now with a smile on his face, looking very satiated.
A child like man with curly brown hair sitting across from the Indian man pipes up. "Ok so why should we develop anything for such a service?". The glowing man turns slowly and methodically towards the child man and takes another long drag off of his vaporizer. Vapor roles out of his mouth, past glowing teeth as he starts speaking. "For developing games for this service, all your products will be in digital format and no physical copies will be necessary. All collector editions will only feature digital assets. All game reviews will be curated at the whim of the developers and with googles surveillance technology all negative feedback surrounding your games can be tracked and the offending user can be neutralized from our service through the use of incriminating curated data." The child man's face twists into an odd shape and he suddenly jolts letting out a short "Oooo" before sinking back into his seat, satiated.
A short stout man with a viscous hooked nose sitting down a few seats from the child man ask's "What do you need from us? Why would we let you use alphabet for this purpose?". The glowing man starts "In exchange for lending the use of your asset, all data profiles collected by google will be accessible to you. All gaming data, watching data, consumer data and comment data will be available to you". The hooked nose man speaks up again "that would be a good sell, if we didn't already have access to all that data. What more can you offer us?". a sinister smile creeps across the face of the glowing man as he raises his vaporizer for another puff. "For letting us use your service, you will have final say over ALL games and their content. Any idea that may pose a problem for you or any idea you wish to impose will be at your will to include or exclude." A bang eminates from the table from the knees of the hook nosed man. He reals his head back, eyes clenched and lets out an exasperated "oh yeah!" then he sinks into his chair, satiated.
The glowing man slickly slips his vaporizer into a breast pocket, still smiling and turns towards the door. The Indian man, still reeling, speaks up "Wait, what will we call it and when do we start?" The glowing man slows to a stop, his hand resting on the door handle and turns. "It will be called 'Stadia' and we have already begun."

Maybe, but the absolute FIRST time something people have been playing gets pulled down because of some issue or another, and suddenly everyone who enjoys it loses access to it.. its going to be a massive shitshow
Not to mention that, as I said before, technical limitations exist that make this rather difficult to work effectively anyway. But add on top of that the fact that inevitably any service online is going to get hacked or ddos'd or have to go down for maint or w/e else. I mean, how often does PS's online shit get hit so hard it has to go down for hours at a time? Now imagine a lot of pissed off people and others are all fucking with the service constantly, the servers are going into maint during prime hours, and suddenly these people paying these subs cant even play games when they want to.. meanwhile, if they owned their own consoles and/or physical media (or at least a digital copy on their own hard drives) they'd still be able to play
Hell, thinking about it like that, I doubt even the twitch whores and the like will stick around, considering how much connection bandwidth the service itself will use up, there wont be a lot left for them to stream to an audience, leaving it choppy or shitty. Then add into it people fucking with the service during prime hours so that they cant even play so they cant view-stream themselves, and suddenly all their shekels go byebye as well…
yeah.. I just dont think this thing is going to last. It might for a few months.. but long term? Nope. Its going to be looked back on as a fucking case study in everything NOT to do

>until someone gets it right enough
"enough" is the key word there, and the simple fact is that technical limitations are not just going to go away because they tweak some shit on their end. I mean, think about ausfags for a minute, how shitty their internet is. To switch to a design like this, you're effectively cutting off an entire nations worth of revenue stream because the infrastructure just doesnt exist well enough to actually support the service at the speeds it requires
Then you have to consider that, even in most of the US, its not much better. So again, cutting off shit loads of customers. There comes a point where reduced costs does not make up for lost revenue. Not to mention the fact that.. will the costs really go down in the first place? Considering the infrastructure required on their end to house all the game data, the users saves, to functionally process and run millions of games at the same time, and the bandwidth required to not just stream that visual and audio information to the user, but accept, process, and return a constant stream of command inputs from users on EVERY fucking game..
Just think about that last one for a second. Games like dark souls, WoW, even the cod games, theres always latency between users, and thats in an environment where the data being sent isnt input/command data, its just "results" data basically and making sense of it all… even those services tend to lag decently from time to time, and thats with a given server having a few thousand people on it. Now imagine every single game, even single player, requires the server to host the game, process the game, receive inputs from the user, process those inputs, respond to them,…. etc etc… all in the milisecond range for each thing? NOPE, not gonna happen given current tech or even tech within the next 20-30 years, and not with infrastructure as it is that wont even be improved in that time frame either
I'm sorry, but all this streaming shit is a non-starter. And thats JUST on the technical side. You're going to have users who cant connect, who have bad lag, who cant play anything besides games where response time is irrelevant and input commands are minimal, and then you still have to think about server downtime and maint, people fucking about and taking them down, and so on and so on.
Thats all BEFORE we get into the problems with the implications of the service itself (not owning the games, them spying, them being able to take them down or censor what gets allowed, or ban games based on the whims of some "parley with the CEO" femicunt, etc)… again, its just not going to happen in our life times

I can't speak for Kangaroo Land, but over here in Burger Land the "technical problem" is that the telcos get millions in government grants as long as their infrastructure needs upgrading, so all they have to do is keep embezzling and never actually do their job and they get perpetual gibs. Can't be fixed politically; every politician gets elected because megacorps fund his campaign. Can't "vote with your wallet"; the telcos have almost the entire country divided up between them into monopolies/duopolies. And they can't be sued because the legal system is a farce; megacorps with bottomless wallets can just appeal infinite times to drag a case out for years and bankrupt you with legal fees.
20 GB per hour is about 5 MB/s, right? I get 3 MB/s on a good day, and the only change I could see happening there would be if civil war broke out and connectivity dropped to 0 MB/s. Ouya 2.0 just plain wouldn't work in the US outside of the jew hives like San Francisco.

Not really, the only three I can think of off the top of my head are,
1. Star Finger Used here as a blanket term for all the stand powers that are used once and forgotten about, like Giorno's damage reflecting animals
2. "Plot holes", like Dio surviving Part One even though Erina takes the only coffin, the delinquent who saves Josuke in part four, etc.
3. the big one, Araki famously "forgetting" Part Two, with him completely forgetting about Caesar and only barely remembering characters other than Joseph. This was also the interview where he confirmed that Kars would never return to the story.

Some interesting statistics for you anons to consider:
At 20 GB per hour, playing two games per month, 100 hours each would result in 4000 GB of data.
The cited internet speeds by various sources said that the minimum needed to be usable at all is 15 MBPS (DigitalFoundry called this speed abysmal).
I took the top 100 providers in the US by coverage. Only 70 could reach the required internet speed. Out of those, 52 had no known data caps and 2 had data caps that could support 4000GB per month or more.
Now, this is without taking into account throttling after certain amounts per month, which most companies use at around 50 GB per month, 75 GB at best.
This is also implying that you have completely unplugged the internet from every other device in your house, so you're only using the Stadia. Add a phone to that, and you have only 47 available providers.
Add three phones, two computers, a laptop, a tablet and a few game consoles like an average family will have (so ten devices in total) and only 29 providers will support your needs.
Lastly, an important note. Out of that top hundred, quite a few only offer their services in one or a few states. Only 26 of the 100 providers offer their services in a double digit number of states. So if we were to just look at the top ten then, big names that everyone knows like AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile and such, only ONE provider could conceivably run this piece of shit - Charter Spectrum. And the only reason Spectrum could is because they are legally not allowed to impose data caps due to a merger with Time Warner.
This is not taking into account any other issues like input latency and the fact that you won't actually own games. This is just a logistical overview of the worst case scenario based on the reports of shills. The real cases will be far, far worse.

Steam shouldn't have been allowed to become the norm. Just a reminder that most people who play games these days, especially on PC, are non-gaming casuals that would otherwise not play games if it weren't for easy access granted by digital distribution platforms like Steam or the console's online network, they wouldn't even bother pirating.
>>16266663
>A game you get from GOG (one way or another) is better in every way vs a physical game except being unable to resale something which isn't technically finite
100% false
GOG is still digital distribution which means if you give them money then you are paying for a download license the same as Steam which no sane person would do and are financially rewarding all the negatives that come with it such as being charged for a download license, prevalent DLC and micro transactions, games being intentionally released unfinished or unplayable without a patch because they can patch it through the platform, etc.
Digital's only advantage is an insignificant amount of convenience which isn't worth all the negatives, even then piracy is more convenient and lets you play without financially rewarding the negatives that come with paid digital distribution such as Steam and GOG.
DRM free physical copy >= piracy depending on if you care about having a physical copy > offline DRM physical copy such as an offline CD key >>>>>> power gap >>>>>>>> shit >>>>>>> Steam, GOG, uplay, origin, Epic, battle.net, PSN, xbox store, eshop, etc
Digital and streaming should be mixed, streaming is the next logical step of digital distribution. That is like saying socialism and communism should not be mixed when communism is the goal of socialism

How is buying an installer on a disc different to buying an installer online ?
You can even burn the files onto a dvd if that gets your dick hard, and have a 100% functional physical copy.
Also you ignore that you can find keys online significantly cheaper than a physical copy in some kike owned electronics market where you have to pay for every mongrel involved in getting the game into the store.
Besides, often the "piracy" option is just the gog installer reuploaded somewhere. How is a pirated gog installer different from a bought one ? Do the pirates pack extra content into the game ?

Should've typed Mbps then.
Anyway, 15 Mbps is approximately almost 2 MB/s.
Cheaper WiFi chips have trouble hitting (and steadily maintaining) that speed in practice.
I'm not even convinced 15 Mbps is enough. I stream from my gaming PC to my Rpi3 over ethernet, and there will be times where the quality of the encoded stream just drops when there's a lot going on. This is just playing DariusBurst CS at 720p 60fps.

Corporates like to write maximum theoritical transfer rate in Mbps because marketing can boast huge numbers. It doesn't matter whether you want to write it in Mbps or MB/s, as long as you write it correctly to avoid confusion.

It definitely looks better for marketing, but it's because bits are more precise. Data doesn't exactly transfer in multiples 8 bits (or 1 byte). For the average person it doesn't really matter, they'll read it however they want, but there is a technical reason for it. Sorry for off topic autism.

As far as I know that's not how it worked with stuff like the Ouya or on live, any exclusive content from those dead platforms ended up getting ported to PC and Android. Anybody that makes a sizable investment in a tittle would likely want to take that elsewhere if the platform dies, the big danger is games getting locked behind this terrible platform and if it's a success the Next Generation does not supporting old games and that's how they died and got locked away forever. So we should actually hope that this thing flops or it could do way more damage to game history and preservation than almost anything before it

Yeah this thing can only function for people that have unlimited data or are willing to sacrifice most of their internet to it each month and I don't really see that happening for any sizable audience. I live in an area with a very ridiculous data cap situation and I'm always just barely scraping by each month. Even watching YouTube I have to have all the quality settings down to the lowest possible so I don't really even bother what that very much. Streaming is so data-intensive for me that it's completely pointless. So piracy wins again because because internet companies are greedy nitwits.

Good pirate groups will often have as much DLC as possible included with the download, along with cutting out performance killing bulshit like denuvo and compressing idiotic file sizes like 60 GB downloads into proper 10 GB or less downloads, that's another reason why steam is dumb. Decent Pirates will even give you options like selective downloads if you don't want the extra heft from languages you'll never use, sometimes over half of a games data just comes from extra languages and duplicate video files.

instead he goes on autistic tirades about how "proprietary software controls their users and is unfair" as if arms grew out of your computer and made you do shit against your will. people always will miss the point if you put it that way. just tell them of stuff like SecuROM and the Sony BMG rootkit fucking shit up, or the auto-updating "smart locks" that locked people out of their houses and people will listen more readily.

When someone pays for digital distribution they are giving a glorified donation to a company for a download license.
