The AnonID code was added to kill off drama queens that can't go a single round\thread without mentioning a name to autistically argue about that individual instead of about the game.

Basically, it makes the server more akin to an Anononymous imageboard, where what you do and say always has more relevance than your name. Arguing otherwise makes as much sense as saying that names on /v/ are banned so you can't tell who that Ritsu poster is anymore.

Last time I played on a /v/ server, rounds tend to last a long while, often an hour or more, since powergamers don't really need to hasten the fuck out of everything to outplay metagamers. It's a comfy server.

Supposedly, it's to stop special snowflakes and meta faggots.

In reality, it's a cop-out. It doesn't hold true for Borgs, AIs, Clowns or Mimes for instance and it stops neither of those things.

Snowflakes are snowflakes because of their behavior, a name is merely a cosmetic feature they'll use among many others like using specific clothing or haircuts. It would have a bigger impact to remove cat ears to stop snowflakes, for instance.

Speaking of haircuts, most metafags don't actually need to have an agreed name before hand. They can start the round and then post each other's name in whatever external chat tool they use, or even agree on stuff that isn't randomized. Most of the metashitters we had used pink or green afro haircuts for a reason, for instance.

Anon player names have a purpose since you're not expected to change that every now and then, they are accounts and every person IRL supposely has a single one.

Meanwhile character names are the names of that specific character, where every player gets 3 slots for characters.

It'd make more sense to let the players keep static names if they want to actually craft a renowned character and leverage whatever reputation he gets as they play the game. You know, actually roleplay.

It also has the side effect of "nerfing" faggots that have to keep switching characters\accounts to reset any bad reputation they get and thus never reach the level of someone that can spend a round without ruining the game for everyone.

It's not like the principle is forced on anyone, even if random names are off, you can still choose to randomize them automatically in your character creation screen after all.

It upsets me that a character is boiled down to his job, that the role you roleplay is that and only that. All bartenders are roleplaying the exact same character and it's pointless to deviate from the norm or to do anything different from what's expected. Your character name becomes as relevant as your character's age: a piece of information that nobody ever refers to.

But still, it's not my server and at best we could have a vote for it. Ironically, I've seen that those few who protest very loud against Anon OOC are quite in favour of random names. Almost as if the player matters more than the character for them, in a roleplaying game. :^)

There's an event that can trigger it or you can hack them so they start doing that.

Most likely it's a wizard spell, although there are a few servers where the event that sets them shooting products at anyone can actually get worse and they'll start going after you, if it's not handled in time.

To fix the first instance, you can hack them. Forgot if there's a wire to pulse, cut or mend, read on the wiki or just cut and mend everything.

To fix the second, you have to apply large amounts of brute force to them.

I'm really frustrated, because I'm realizing how not-robust I am, and how DOOMED to not robust I am. My reaction times are just too slow. I'm locked into being a bad player that is going to get ganked easily every round because I have to response time of a geriatric patient. Everything just goes too fast. I've gotten into fights three or four times and am easily trounced and boinked. It just reminds me of when I try and play FPS against people, and lose every time, because their reactions to my presence are just those few half/quarter seconds faster than mine.

Here's how you hack doors like a sophisticated gentlemen and a civilized human being.

Wires are randomized every random, so you have to find which is which. You can use a Wirecutter to cut\mend them or a Multitool to pulse them.

The first is more permanent but it has it's problem while the multitool is more temporary which you'll prefer save for a few situations.

Here's the wires you need to find:

Bolt Wire

When you cut or pulse it, the door bolts go down and the door won't open. Pulsing it again will pull them up while mending the wires won't. This is the main reason you want to use the multitool, so you don't bolt an important door or leave a door bolted to annoy everyone else like a nigger.

Shocking Wire

Cutting\Pulsing this sets the door to shock you for 60 seconds. If this happens, move on to another door, unless you have insulated gloves.

Power Wire

Cutting\Pulsing this one cuts the power for 10 seconds and then backup kicks in and power is restored.

Backup Wire

Cut\Pulse this to disable backup power (pulsing is temporary) You can find this by disabling power, waiting for backup to kick in and then disabling more wires until power goes down again.

NOTE: Bolts won't go up if the power is down.

These are the methods that you, an intelligent lifeform, will use unlike the niggers that like to pretend they know jackshit about this:

The Professional Lockpicker

Open the door panel with a screwdriver.

Pulse the Power Wire

Close the door panel with a screwdriver.

Force it open with a crowbar.

Force it closed with a screwdriver.

You have now just passed through a door and left almost 0 evidence you went through, and after 10 seconds, the door will work normally so nobody knows about it either.

The Not-So-Secret Door

Open the door panel with a screwdriver

Cut the Power and Backup Power wires

Close the door panel with a screwdriver

Now you have a door that opens with a crowbar whenever you want, quite handy for maintenance doors into departments you don't have access to, also making a decent roadblock to anyone chasing without a crowbar.

The Automagic Door

NOTE: ADVANCED METHOD, you need to find the Open Door wire, the Bolt Lights wire and the AI Control wire

Get 2 remote signalers, configure them properly to activate with a signaler of your own

Open the door panel, put the signaler on the Bolt Wire and the Open door wire, cut the Bolt Lights and AI Control wires.

Close the door,

Pulse the Bolt Wire to make the bolts fall down,

Close the door panel

Watch as using your own signaler opens the door wide open for you and using it again closes it and bolts it down without any sign of what is happening, forcing anyone to hack it since not even the AI can open it.

Protip: Combine an extra signaler to the Electrocution Wire and it will also fry anyone that tries to follow you after you close it behind you. Now they need tools and gloves to even follow you.

Extra line, ignore it.

Also, the "The Not-So-Secret Door" has an extra use. Since the door only works manually, it means you can keep a door opened indefinitely, especially since almost nobody bothers to close most doors down.

This makes for a very easy way to spread fires incredibly fast (especially if you make ATMOS increase the oxygen in the air above 50%)

Extra bonus round:

Hacking doors is only required when breaking into places surrounded by reinforced walls since it's faster than deconstructing those.

For everywhere else, you can simply Weld a wall and then wrench the assembly to make an empty space where a wall used to be.

Even better, after welding a wall, use a crowbar on the assembly and then reapply the metal back on it. That makes a secret door that you can use just by clicking on it for faster getaways that are harder to find and the AI can't even do anything about it either.

If you're using the welder to disassemble metal objects, you're going to run out of fuel pretty quick. Don't forget that you can top up with a fuel tank instead of finding another welding tool. All you have to do is right click on the fuel tank. It's annoying to toggle the flame on and off, so make sure you do it just before you run out of fuel.

One round long ago all I wanted to do was learn how to play botanist. I cloistered myself into the botany room and just fumbled and fucked around while glancing at the wiki now and then. A chef joined and kept nagging me for ingredients and I tried, but he eventually got frustrated waiting and said not to fuck with one of the hydro basins and he did it himself.

Some time later a guy wearing an engineer hardsuit dismantled the door leading into botany, then the second door and just waltzed right through. I offered him some bananas or tomatoes, he didn't respond. I continued my efforts, very pleased with my small, small bananas.

Finally the call goes out, shuttle in 10 minutes. I gathered up my bananas and headed down. Unfortunately the shuttle dock had been fucking destroyed at some point and not having a basic grasp on the game I wasn't able to get my oxygen on fast enough. I collapsed and slowly drifted toward the shuttle. As I'm seeing the light at the end of the tunnel someone grabs me and drags me to the ship with a fire extinguisher, then gives me something and my character was brought back to his senses. Tons of other people had made it on before us, we were there a few seconds before takeoff.

Then the guy who saved me said "oh wait" and shoots me in the fucking head. Round over, he was traitor and I was his only target for the round. Nobody ate my bananas.

Most of the time, I get access by simply asking for it to do a job that is needed. The few rare times I actually upgrade my own access is when there is no Higher crew available. When they return I usually just tell them I did it and they are chill.

If they remove the access thats up to them. No harm no foul. Plus me having the only card with perm edit on it usually stop captain spare shitters from dumping all access cards everywhere. So pick your battles.
