ACE 2 and 3 are pretty fun, they're really simple though. Still, it's just dumb fun flying around blowing shit up with all the different mechs. It emulates pretty well for a PS2 game, though I had to use a walkthrough to understand the different stats and some of the objectives for missions that aren't just "kill fucking everybody" since they're all in nip.
Also, I bought Project Nimbus a while back but never got around to playing it. Anybody here tried it? Looks like Missile-spam: the game but seems like it could be alright in this mech-starved industry of late. I hope I never break down and have to buy a Jewtendo console just to play a new game that resembles Armored Core

The only thing similar is the dashing/quick boosting. It has very little momentum to it. It is much more long range focused, while melee is pretty awkward. I think ACfA is a better comparison, but it has a bit of Ace Combat in it as well.

Never been that into this genre, controlling a singular vehicle. I remember having a modicum of enjoyment with MechCommander 2, an alright western RTT game.
Minmax mechs centered around one specific weapon were fun, like having an entire squad with nothing but Long Toms.

Really wish we could get a combined arms MechCommander 3. Battletech looked so good until I found out it's 4 Mechs only and TBS.
Not to say that TBS are bad, but I think that utilising the setting for more than a dumbed down version of its tabletop equivalent is better than what we got.
If I want turn-based Battletech, I'll play Megamek.

Xenoblade X. Spoilers ahead but why I love this game. Earth got blown the fuck up, humanity is extinct and there is a shit ton of Kos-Mos style robots pretending to be human walking around with dead peoples faces and memories and retarded enough to want to rebuild LA of all fucking places on an alien planet (that might actually be the fucking biggest Titan around) and they all have fucking gundam tier mechs. Best part is you get to make your own android main character
This game on paper sounds depressing but its so fucking day glow and comfy.

There used to be a F2P tank game called Gear Up! or something like that. It was pretty simple but also pretty fun and you could customize your "tank" to the point where it had spider limbs that could climb and cling to walls and no shortage of silly weapons. I say used to because I'm pretty sure it's down to 0 players at this point.

Battle Engine Aquila lets you control a transforming mech that doesn't look humanoid.
Most Western mech games feature chickenwalkers instead of more humanoid designs, but I guess those are still a tad too overdone for your tastes?

I played it years ago, and it was fairly biased towards feddies, though that may have been my friend and I being shit. Zeon is more micro based as they have more mobile suits early on and stuff like the doms require you to micro around shots to be useful. The federation is more about macro and throwing lots of cheap units out with the occasional gundam or something like it for support. It only gets ridiculous when they start producing GMs as those are pretty close to on par with gelgoogs, the Zeon final unit, and were mass produced.
