i feel like that with all the mysterious atlier games for the most part. except firis, but i didnt like the open world.
i kind of appreciated how sophie was done. everything was fast and condensed although youre right; the dungeons were small and uninteresting. but i didnt have to farm pickup points waiting for specific attributes or anything like that. i found myself entering/exiting areas in firis and farming the same fucking tree or enemy 50x.
atelier lydie i just felt like the game centered more around small objectives like "make 20 of this item" and triggering 20 events every time the story progresses slightly.
then quickly accomplishing whatever simple tasks were asked of you.
i got to the part where i did something in the desert with a lightning rod or something. i was hoping the game would "open up" at some point but kept randomly waking up running into a wall and just had to try a different game.
also, sue and lydie areas are bigger and more interesting, but gathering materials is a pain because of that. i feel like i never have what i want/need. i never had that issue in sophie.
but i guess it depends on what you want out of the game.
