When I look for music, sometimes I'll come across an entire album that's encoded to a single FLAC file as opposed to the tracks being separated as individual files. I haven't tested on many audio players yet, but these tend to be inconvenient for navigating tracks. Are these meant to be burned onto discs? I feel like I'm missing something.

A .cue file is usually paired to .bin or .wav files for full CD copying. The .cue stores the track-list as it was on the CD. For audio CDs, .wav can be replaced with .flac for lossless compression. A flac + cue combo is not made for playback, but some audio players can process it now.

These are a thorny issue, no question. Which is why I started with something easy that didn't need third-party trickery to work. The way it was handled with for example, bsnes and ROMs that had coprocessors was to append the two pieces and hash that. Similar story with NES ROMs which often have separation of program and data. I doubt that can work with a typical modern game consisting of many files, so unless it comes in an archive of some sort, it may have to come down to separate SHA256 hash files per-game and per-dump.
Also, bear in mind, that this only guarantees consistency. If you hash a copy of a game that has a Bitcoin miner in it, all it assures is that if you have the matching one, it has a Bitcoin miner. The intent is to database games that can be considered trustworthy so you know copies that don't match might be compromised.

Pretty big resolution and a decent amount of colors. 5400x4000 for example. It's because I'm stitching together 2 already large images that are 2-page spreads. They're coming out to around 35-50MBs when saved as PNG. Actually, this could be because I'm saving them as PNG with Paint+ instead of Photoshop. I believe Photoshop gives them smaller filesizes when you save them on there.

In those 2 pictures, your scan resolution is so high it can register individual ink dots from the printed image. Once you're doing that, you're not actually increasing the quality of the image.
Consider scaling the image down until they are about to become visible, you're not necessarily storing a higher quality representation of whatever the artist drew by pumping up resolution. If you do that, in theory you're creating a higher quality image with a smaller filesize.

There are many formats better than PNG and JPEG. Sadly, people use shitty software with no format support beyond that, and if you use other formats a large portion of your users will likely be unable to view your scans.
You're getting a bit into information theory and image compression.
The gist of it is that JPEG outside of some edge cases (none of which include scanning paper) will produce smaller images than PNG, with the downside that the image will have the so-called artifacts.
On paper, if you do a good job in producing the JPEG, it should be indistinguishable from the original image, or be so much smaller that the user will likely prefer it over a PNG simply due to the filesize. Which is why a well made JPEG should generally be preferred over a PNG.
I recommend you use PNG while doing your work on the image, and then once your work is done you can convert the result to JPEG, and then create a DEFLATE-compressed zip file from the folder containing the pictures. This maximizes compatibility with the software your users will use to view your scans, and appears to be the most reasonable way of doing things.
To make the best JPEGs, learn how to use a good JPEG encoder such as libjpeg-turbo or its quality-focused fork mozjpeg (though mozilla doesn't distribute mozjpeg binaries and you have to manually compile it, which may make that not viable for you,) and then run the image through jpegoptim.
You've noticed that when you save a JPEG image with paint and with photoshop the results are different, this is mainly because paint uses the microsoft .net framework JPEG encoder, which is among the worst of all time, and photoshop uses adobe's JPEG encoder, which is decent. It's also probably because of quality settings, a common feature of lossy image encoders is that you can pick 1 or 2 of "encode fast, encode in high quality, encode with a small filesize." Though I haven't used photoshop in ages to tell if it allows you to, and I know paint doesn't.
To make that final JPEG scan, I recommend you learn how to use libjpeg-turbo, which appears to be the overall best JPEG encoder when practicality is considered, or otherwise its quality-focused fork mozcjpeg which is also usable but requires compiling from source. After that, you can run the image through jpegoptim, which can decrease the filesize of a JPEG image with no loss and almost instantly

TIFF appears to be the format of choice for people professionally dealing with images simply because it came first and nobody wants to switch.
It's a container format which can encode the image in a billion different methods, all of which are outdated, and actually includes JPEG. Sometimes you'll download a TIFF and it's actually just a JPEG contained within the TIFF container.
The rule of thumb is don't save an image you're going to edit again another day with a lossy format (such as JPEG), because you're compounding the quality loss of every lossy save, and unless you require a lossless image or it just so happens that the PNG is smaller than the JPEG, release the result in a well made JPEG.
You work with whatever lossless format you have in hand, and at the very end you turn it into a lossy image for convenience. When you archive your work, you figure out whether you want or not the lossless original. If you have the space, probably. The lossy and lossless formats you pick will likely be JPEG and PNG, because any others will inconvenience you with imperfect software support.
FLIF is an in development image format, whether it's good or not doesn't really matter, because the maker doesn't guarantee an image you make today will be able to be decoded tomorrow. Consider it when it's released.
As for archiving regular photographs, if you mean scanning film photos, you weigh in whether you care or not about the JPEG quality loss, and if the photo is digital stick to whatever format they already are.
For "serious" archiving, consider installing Linux or some BSD variant, and use a filesystem with error correction, preferably on a RAID setup. This should make you less likely to lose your images, from the data in the hard drive going wrong over time (known as bit flipping or bit rot), to the drive itself dying (which RAID solves by having multiple drives store the same data transparently, in the hopes that if one or more drive dies you have one or more with the data intact, at least the kind of RAID setup you'd want to use).
If you don't care about the compatibility of the format, there's a format called WEBP which is actually a 3 in 1 replacement for PNG, GIF and JPEG, and beats each one of them at their job.
Lossless WEBP is smaller than PNG. lossy WEBP can store an image with higher quality and smaller filesize than JPEG, and it also supports transparency which JPEG doesn't. WEBP can also store video clips, as you'd do with a GIF, and it produces smaller videos with better quality. Although I recommend against this, because at that point just use a dedicated video codec which will be infinitely better.
WEBP actually has decent support, but it's still not on the level of PNG/JPEG, and there are better formats, although WEBP appears to be the only one currently usable and which definitely has a future.
There's not really an image format that's better for a specific kind of work, and what random fields of work pick is not at all based on reason. Your considerations on an image format are how small it makes an image, whether it has features you want (colorspaces, transparency, proper metadata tags), how fast it encodes/decodes, its picture quality, and whether your users will be able to view it. As these are things everyone wants and what is better or worse is clear, a theoretical format that beats all others in those things would then be the format you'd want for anything.

There are some benefits to TIFF specifically. That stitching example video uses QGIS, which is a program intended for GIS applications and that plug-in is intended for transforming things like aerial photographs to coordinated points. But when I output the files so GIMP can do the main stitch work they are GeoTIFF (TIFF that has metadata related to its coordination). The other big feature TIFF has in these applications is images that cover more than the visible spectrum like infrared. PNG does not work for this.
tl;dr avoid transcoding as much as possible even to "lossless" because some image editors actually deal in higher bit depths for colour. GIMP doesn't yet but it's planned. Krita can work in floating point.

All virus scanners are basically terrible. Which is why I view it as even more paramount to establish a system of verification of PC game copies. With SNES games you have No-Intro and byuu to tell you which games are confirmed. It's a lot harder to subvert such a system.
This does leave the one main question of dumping standards that are hashable cleanly. For Vita and PSN it is clearly not Vitamin or MaiDumpTool, it's the encrypted .pkg file downloaded from PSN and its fake license to actually use it. For cartridge games there was a work in progress to do these since their data is basically the same app folder tree as a PSN copy (if it exists) but I don't think it went anywhere.
CD-based systems pose serious issues. While it is possible to do a 1:1 dump of the data track of CDs, the audio tracks are actually complicated by CD drives being looser. Individual drive models have a varying offset to what they consider the start of the audio data by a few samples.

The saving grace is the vast majority of audio CDs have a 2 second silence period by default so you can just pad 0s and offset it based on what your CD drive offset is calculated to be. Generally doctoring data is a bad idea but as long as the sample hash was from a drive with 0 offset and done with a secure hash, it's safe to do that to make it match the hash. For tracks that continue seamlessly into one another it's not a problem, you won't notice a few sample differences when skipping to a track.

It's normal for an installer to require permissions of that nature if it's needing to install to somewhere like Program Files which is not world-writeable since Windows 2000 I think? Definitely Windows XP, but meaningless when people don't use luser accounts. UAC was a forcing function to make programs stop doing stupid shit like that and also limits the default power of the user even if using an administrator-level account. The only commonality is that they are booru sites. In terms of content they are worlds apart. It is not the same as a decentralized system! More simply, no fucking way would I want to return to 4chan if we lost 8chan! More generally I largely agree with that PDF. I do not believe imageboards as a format will work out forever. Somewhat related, using Git for maintaining all the information here is actually a really good way to do it, not just because it means you can change the content without needing to update the OP and other people can contribute to it. The really special thing is not only does it hash all its internals so you can know if there's data corruption or tampering, it is a distributed VCS. Everyone who has a copy of the repository has the full history of it, and a copy that is just as good as every other copy, and the way you do merging and pulling of changes is peer-to-peer, not based on a central authority though it often ends up coming down to that because it's sensible with software developent, and even informational things like the OP. But it's important because if something happened to the hosting for Gitgud it would be quite possible for him, or anyone else with a clone, to start it up somewhere else and push it there.

Also I'm finally starting the Heisei Tribute artbook. I'll probably scan it in a few days. It's the editing that's going to takes some time. Especially if I decide to stitch images but I may not do that because the pages split evenly as if they expect you to debind the pages to see the whole image. I don't know why some editors allow that. The pages should contain a little of the other page so you can view the whole image by opening the book.

It's the superior version which had some content added after the US/PAL ports. I am trying to find it in order to port the translation there, in the same way Epic Mickey's translation was ported to the better NTSC-J port not too long ago.

Needs more context.
I know that within browsers, blobs can be any data-type resource. Looking up .sh reveals that it's a shell script you can run on a linux terminal.
You could open the .sh in notepad/np++ to read it and maybe open the blobs in your browser to see if it's an image or something.

Definitely more context. I've not seen .blob but .sh typically refers to a *nix shell script, and may sometimes contain binary data as the Linux GOG installers do. A fun fact about the different scripting languages is that their extension isn't even mandatory. Most scripting files will start with a "hashbang" line like #!/bin/sh that specifies which program should be used to interpret it so you can just directly execute it like a program in that instance. Similarly it might be #!/usr/bin/python for a Python script which otherwise would have .py extension.

In a nutshell, a hash takes a blob of data and outputs a string that is basically a fingerprint of that data. Cryptographicaly secure hashes are designed such that it becomes impossible to deduce an input that will produce a given output, and by extension, different data that has the same hash as another. SHA2 in its variants like SHA256 is currently considered safe. SHA1 is potentially risky. MD5 is only useful nowadays for detecting accidental file corruption.
So, if you run a program like https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/hash_my_files.html on an installer in the database and its hash matches one of the entries in that DB, no matter where you happened to download it, you can be confident that it's not been modified in any way and may as well have been sourced from GOG itself. At least that's the intent. That's only really true when multiple people reproduce the same hash for a file. Because if for example one that has been tampered with is in there, I don't believe this to be the case, but if true, you're just validating you downloaded a compromised version.

Welp didn't really excepted it that the installer would screw up with non language files, of course it could have happened from a fucking exe file. Who could have guessed it, of course it required on a external tool which also requires one of microshit C++ redistributable version (2003-2012 version probably), I attempted to extract the langpack exe files with 7z command line (x option) and all the fucking files are not stored in the original files but extracted in other file formats which requires the before mentioned GothicVDFS.exe tool to turn them back into the game files. What kind of a idiot would make this sort of unnecessary complications? A rhetorical question. Also I have no idea what the fuck he did with the folder structure but for some reason it has several files containing exactly the same name which are clashing I guess the author used some sort of index fuckery or w/e which would explain why the 7z command line asked me if I want to overwrite the file or not. Though I am not much familiar with exe files so I wouldn't be able to explain any more of this fuckery going on. At least this fan made exe file works with wine in the first place, I had experienced worse case of self made exe fuckery such as one of those Total Annihilation fan patch which is in fucking exe format and nobody bothered to upload a zipped version of it, some of the maps requires those files found on the TA exe fan patch due to some additional content it provides.
So for any other loonix user running into this sort of trouble too here is what you do:
1: Blackup your default/vanilla Gothic 1 installation
2: Make sure you are using a 32 bit wineprefix
3: Install the C++ Redistributable version from 2003-2012 or so with whatever other wine tools such as winetricks
4: create another folder called Gothic1LangPack or anything else
5: Copy the data folder from your Gothic 1 folder into the newly created folder from step 4
6: If everything is a success check the _WORK folder and make sure the case sensitivity is the same from your Gothic 1 _work folder
7: The language related changes should work properly now, however the langpack isn't finalized so if you use a different language the result may vary which is beyond my control.
8: Optionally you can now install the player-kit first and the systempack. Check here for more info: pcgamingwiki [] com/wiki/Gothic
For me it works all gud now after this bullshit, took me over 2 hours to figure it because I was confused what the fuck is going on. Also if Gothic 1 previously didn't run for you it has a GOTHIC.INI file under the system folder, in the [VIDEO] section there should a line that says something about videobpp and the resolution, set the 2 resolution variable to your monitor variable and the bpp to 32 then it should run the game.
