Amusement Vision did GX. Just broadly saying "Sega made it" is kind of ignorant. At least some of the big names still appear to be part of Sega, but they are the Yakuza Dev team now, they haven't worked on an arcade game in quite some time. Not only is it unlikely that a new game could live up to the perfect storm that was an arcade f-zero developed by one of the best teams possible, but modern practices of both Sega and Nintendo would mean DLC everywhere, paid online, and god knows what else.

If you actually want a new entry in the series, you are nothing more than a traitor, whether you realize it or not.

Is Desmume just a really shitty emulator? It runs worse than I'd expect. My laptop has an i5-3320M, no dedicated GPU, just the Intel HD 4000 graphics, running Linux. Most Gamecube games I've tried on Dolphin run at full speed with minor drops here and there in certain instances. With Desmume though, no combination of settings I've tried works well. Be it the OpenGL or software renderer, it doesn't make much a difference. I get like, 45 FPS tops when testing New Super Mario Bros. I know this laptop isn't gonna be topping the charts in any performance benchmarks, but I'm just a little surprised /this/ is the emulator that's giving me trouble.

Seeing 3d games in higher res on an emulator shows just how god damn aesthetic ds vidya was. Played DQ IX & tried out metroid prime hunters with these high settings god damn it looked good. They have that visually pleasing look similar to what you'd get in a ps1 game.

Also OP you're never gonna have that happen outside of community-made mods/content. A "hardcore" audience for these games is extremely tiny and I doubt nintendo wants to make anything other than games which appeal to the absolute broadest audience seeing how consoles are getting pushed to the sidelines now.

People who complain about the blue shell don't actually fucking play Mario Kart, I swear to God. Between how rare it is and just boiling down to being one hit, it's a meme to make fun of it, just like wanting Waluigi in Smash.

Besides, at least in MK8, first place deserves it. First and second place nearly never get good offensive items. Meanwhile, third and onwards will get red shells 50% of the time. If you're in second, you will be bombarded by red shell after red shell, not to mention being fucked out of any methods of catching up to first via lightning. Second place is at such a huge disadvantage that the occasional blue shell is very fucking welcome.

The blue shell is just terrible from a design standpoint, no matter how annoying it actually is. Whoever gets it will probably be so far back that they won't benefit from it (unless someone close to them happens to be in its path in 8), and avoiding it takes such specific situations that it's effectively just a punishment to whomever is in first place, for being good enough to be in first place. If second place needs a random "fuck you" event to happen to first place in order to have a chance passing first place, that doesn't make the blue shell good; it makes the entire item distribution algorithm bad. When other kart racers can do a blue shell equivalent that's much more fair and rewards skill, it just further points to the blue shell needing a mechanical change.

It has a decent chance at showing up at least once in a race (and I've seen races with two or even three of them pop up), and that chance can happen right near the end of the entire race, screwing first place with no chance to recover in time.

One hit that completely stops and spins the target out, destroys their items, and leaves them completely vulnerable to any further attack.

If you're playing against the AI, which the last time I played MK was something that you need to do quite a lot of to unlock things, you're essentially guaranteed to get hit by one or more blue shells near the end of the third lap. It's extremely predictable. Aside from all the other flaws in its design, it's also a huge middle finger to the player when playing with the AI.
