I'm still a beginner so I can't give any solid examples or advice, but I think he means to say that you shouldn't trap yourself into a purely realistic mindset when it comes to drawing. Sometimes when you break a couple of rules you can end up with a more aesthetically pleasing result. I would say that there is a stiffness to those figures, so try drawing some more dynamic poses, like squatting for example.

But form itself has a weight and energy that cannot be communicated with rigid structures, remember, the body is not a culmination of sections it's a form of blood and meat and in an illustration you're not building a person out of muscles you're imitating life with shapes so most of your consideration should be towards the most important things that will meet the eye and those important things should have a satisfying abstract flow to them with a technical understanding bringing it together.
