As far as 8th gen is concerned, my two main thoughts about Sword/Shield are:
What type would the Gym in the spooky forest be? I'm hoping Ghost type, but others have suggested it could be Dark, Poison, or Fairy type.
Would pokemon from Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee be transferable to Sword/Shield? A recent event Chansey was made available in Let's Go. The odd thing about it is that it came in Cherish Ball. Those crimson pokéballs don't normally appear outside of mainline games.

Strategy in Pokemon hardly even develops at the highest and most autistic levels of play, and even there it pivots almost solely around the axle of type advantages. Wishing for strategy in Pokemon is like wishing for rain in the Atacama. It is almost entirely excluded by the conditions that it exists under and wishing otherwise is wasted time that you could be using to move into a genre where it's less impossible.

Type advantage doesn't mean that much in the face of intimidate, MUH MENTUM and high level skill™ 10 turn freezes. Strategy definitely exists, and it's usually pretty prevalent in rom-hacks that actually utilise the entirety of the game's mechanics (both for NPC teams and for player options) and even in human vs human play it's pretty obvious that strategy is a thing when a shitter from fungame™ can sweep a full smogon team using a fucking palm tree just because the smog shitter doesn't know how to play and his flowchart doesn't cover how to deal with shitmons. Most high level human v human games are decided by bluffing or RNG bullshit though far more than type advantage, which only really matters in deciding which pokemon get high usage, and is still secondary to move availability (haha kyu-b), stat spreads. and abilities.

This is really not hard and a lot of romhacks do it already (in addition to type though), but I would fear whichever elite four member gets the pp stall strat, I can't wait to watch an NPC swap between pex, goblin and chansey for 300 turns.

I played it. It's basically a Telltale game with more gameplay, less pretend choices that don't actually matter, and less QTEs. It's actually kinda fun if you like those sorts of games but like all other games like it I wouldn't recommend spending money on it. I'd say it's really worth maybe $5. It was a fun take on what life is like in the Pokémon world for the normal people.

It's kind of a zen trojan horse like a lot of Japanese kids' stuff. That's why they refuse to pursue the existing audience and instead keep essentially remaking the same games: they intentionally want it to be the series you play when you're 10-12 years old.
Then later other games start to fill in the existential puzzle. You might eventually ask yourself questions about the nature of the Pokemon universe: are Pokemon even real? Are all the adults in the series LARPing for the benefit of the kids? What's inside a pokeball? How the fuck is Porygon? Is their universe canonically a simulation? Are they aware of it?

I've lost interesting in anything Pokemon movie/anime related, but I will say detective pikachu looks awful, I hated the idea of live action Pokemon movie as a kid, and I still hate the idea now, Pokemon designs just don't lend themselves to reality, it just looks ugly, vary few can pull it off, like bulbasour looks okay, but aipom looks disgusting, especially the tail hand, I understand why they made it look like that, in game it's kinda like a giant boxing glove, but trying to put that in real life doesn't work so you have to change it, but could have use mankey or any other monkey pokemon that could have translated better?

So whats the general thought on the starters of SSG, I think they look really bland and uninspired, maybe the evo's will make up for that, but judging by the fact SM starters were a thing, I heavily doubt it, and it's just going to be stuck in the PC, if I buy the game.
Also is it me or fake leaks for pokemon getting slightly harder to tell for SS? I think the designs of the starters themselves are throwing me off on what to expect from them, and I never had a issue with this until now, maybe i'm just expecting them to worse so any crappy fanart thrown out seems more realistic to what will get.

I'm defiantly more of a sprite person, and I find pretty sad that we don't a lot of games the go for sprites over 3D models, I mean sprites can look absolutely gorgeous now a days, and they often look great many years later, and when it comes down to Pokemon the sprites were more expressive, I wish they just stuck with them and just added more animation for sprites taking damage and dealing some attacks, I can go back to gen 2 to 5 and still appreciate the sprite work meanwhile let's go came out looking dated.

You could easily say the same about DQmonsters and most of SMT just by adjusting the level curve, or for that matter just about any game (look at how much easier EO4 is than EO3 just because levelling is super easy). SMT almost gets a free pass except for the abundance of 'puzzle' bosses that have very specific immunities or patterns that are impossible to brute force. Additionally, there are very few games that hinge so heavily on the impact of switching mechanics.

I pirated USUM, it's unironically better than ORAS too. SM's better than ORAS, Ohmori learned from his mistakes. Granted they managed to fuck up in new ways but I'll take that any day over whatever the fuck Masuda is doing post BW. I will say USUM isn't worth plaything through if you already played SM, because almost every cutscene is the same and you can't skip that shit. I pirated both Gen 7 games, and I really preferred USUM's little touches. Granted it would be nice if we had more, better side content but Game Freak apparently can't make shit in 3D for some goddamn reason and they're allergic to anything more difficult than Cynthia so I'm impressed they managed to make due with what they had. I don't have high hopes for SS or even Gen 9, but maybe by the time Gen 10 gets released Game Freak will be used to 3D and we'll get something decent, or B3W3. Commons are most people. They have the most even split stats but the most versatile movepool second to Smeargle and Mew. Though they can channel Ki energy into other move types like fire or electric if they trained hard enough. Chuck is obviously a warrior. So is Bruno and Prof. Kukui. And then there's the mystics who are psionic users, telepaths, and other masters of the third eye. Sabrina is the obvious choice, but Hex Maniacs and Channelers also fit.

What's more likely is that humans co-existing with Pokemon has thinned the population to only the strongest humans, as before humans and Pokemon worked together I imagine proto-humans were mostly killed off. Then again I'm the kind of person that thinks animals exist in the Pokemon universe given how often they're referenced in every form of media, the fact that at least the plant an fungi kingdoms still exist, and that humans are probably animals. You can argue that some plants, fungi, or microorganisms are Pokemon, and you'd be correct, but I doubt all of them are given all the trees in the game and that human characters in Japan tend to be named after plants. I have taken account of egg groups. I'm fairly certain humans would be in the No Egg group because they don't reproduce with eggs. Pokémon in the wild have different reproduction methods. See ghost-types as a culprit. Eggs are a gameplay mechanic simplified to explain the bees and the birds in a kids game. No Egg doesn't mean Pokémon never reproduce. It means they never reproduce in day care or in an observable space. Or if they do reproduce then they do not . produce eggs at all.
Breeding in the wild is completely different than breeding methods in day care. We can say in the wild anything goes. But Pokémon are always restricted to a natural moveset in the wild. Yes they breed with their own species the most in the wild. I'm sure they can breed with other Pokémon in egg groups when necessary. That said regardless of offspring there is rarely mixed species of Pokémon. There are variants of Pokémon with the same species and that applies to humans as well.
And whether or not humans are completely different creatures from Pokémon one thing is certain: our fragile humans would go extinct in the Pokémon world if they didn't evolve the adapt to the world rules to compete. This applies to any fictional universe really. Humans have experience points, levels, HP, stats, and moves like Pokémon do once upon a time. The three variants of humans are class archtypes: Fighting Man (warrior), Mage (mystic), and Rogue (common/jack-of-all-trades). Humans could all be Normal type if no arch-type system is in place.

Only for the first generation, once a Pokemon (or a human) has an egg move, it can pass it down to its kids without mixing species as long as it doesn't forget the move.
Of course this doesn't take into account that the optimal strategy for in-game breeding is usually a ton of multi-generational incest with a Ditto with good IVs.

Real animals don't exist in the Pokemon world (at least for the games and anime). Instances where animals are shown in the anime (usually early episodes) are the result of animation-errors according to Shudou Takeshi, the main writer of the anime series and the first 2 movies. Apparently a beta-script for the 3rd movie was supposed to confirm that regular animals used to exist but all went extinct. The movie focused on a t-rex fossil that came to life and had to be dealt with, but that script was thrown out.

The No Egg group is probably just "No Eggs in a Day Care" as you stated. For example Manaphy eggs are a in game thing, but you can't get a Manaphy by breeding Manaphy, only Phione. And I think the Legendary bird trio has eggs in Pokemon Snap, but they can't be bred normally. Of course the no-eggs group could just be simply a gameplay mechanic to prevent players from breeding legendaries and mythicals.

While it's common for people to want to classify regular humans as normal types, people are often shown affected by ghost attacks in the anime, so that typing isn't possible (but then again the anime fucks up type match rules all the time). Also, a human/Pokemon/whatever doesn't need to be a certain type just to know a specific move, learning/inheriting moves outside of typing is a thing.

Baby Pokémon is simply immaturuty that varies with species.
Legendaries could be highly evolved to be genetically incompatible with other Pokémon so they breed with their own species in specific times of the millennium. Mewtwo, being a roid clone of Mew, can only breed with Mew (and possibly Ditto if Ditto doesn't disintegrate from the egg making process). But Mewtwo sure as hell not going to share it's child in daycare of all things. Chances are Mew can never have another Mew because whatever it gives birth to is another Pokémon. Mew, and Mewtwo, technically can belong to the Ditto egg group. However because of no gender and egg moves passing on from males gameplay wise then it makes sense for balance sake that Mew and Mewtwo are No Egg.

Then why do we keep seeing references to animals, usually in the Pokedex (and usually species names)? And before you say the Pokedex isn't canon, I'd like to remind you in USUM there are several optional cutscenes dedicated just to showing the Pokemon doing what they say they do in the Pokedex. Not to mention I'm pretty sure species names have been used in conversation a few times, it's been a while. To go even further beyond, regular bees show up in Vespiquen's attacks, although you can easily argue they're meant to be Combee. There's a mosquito in the old amber, which means that animals did exist at one point, although you can argue they're currently extinct, which it would make sense for a lot of them to be extinct or endangered because Pokemon have taken so many of their niches. As late as the 3DS era they're selling fish and mentioning chickens, although you can argue about those cases if you really wanted. I think some fish show up in that cool underwater tunnel in B2W2 too, although they're so low quality I'm not sure if they were meant to be a Pokemon. The way I look at Pokemon lore is to take most of it at face value. The only mention I've heard of Pokemon and humans being the same is in a Sinnoh myth. While you can point out that almost every myth in Pokemon has been accurate, I'd like to point out the alternate origin for Kyurem in BW compared to it's true nature in B2W2, meaning that there might be a very different origin of Pokemon. It's been implied that Pokemon have come variously from space or other dimensions, but humans in ancient times called them magical creatures before they invented Pokeballs. Humans invented a doomsday super-weapon before they came up with written language, or at least modern written language if the Relic Castle is from the same era as Abyssal Ruins. Pokemon lore is fucked and I don't really want to think about it too hard. From where I stand, everything is canonical to it's own specific thing, and while other things may be varying degrees of canonical to it, it is not necessarily canonical to them. If you're familiar with how Transformers canon works then you've got a head start.

Which makes me think that while similar to a virus it might be something else entirely. Deoxys becoming a life form from a virus is also somewhat interesting. Either nobody at Game Freak knows what a virus actually is (understadnable) or they know and don't care because Pokemon is messed up. Waste and garbage comes to life, and mechanical things just suddenly become Pokemon sometimes, shit's fucking wild. It's part of the main plot that Prof. Juniper says Klink only showed up about 100 years ago, which would place it around the time of the industrial revolution, which is when the most gears ever were probably created. Voltorb only showed up after Pokeballs were invented and might be one that came to life. Interestingly even though it is much larger than one, Pokeballs in the anime are shown to expand, and when Voltorb and Electrode explode sometimes they expand, so it's possible that they can expand at will and the exploding is them taking it to the extreme. I just found that interesting, based on various canonical facts.

That's probably the best way to handle it. The Pokemon series regularly contradicts and retcons itself in a single media format let alone differences in games, anime, whatever. I generally consider normal animals to be non-canon and things like >>16235748 Indian Elephants in the Pokedex to be there as a reference of power scale for players. The Pokedex itself is a mess as you mentioned, sometimes it's accurate and sometimes Magcargo is hotter than the surface of the fucking sun. The Pokedex even contracts itself occasionally, Moon's Araquanid uses its bubble to help others, Sun's Araquanid drowns them.
GameFreak and Nintendo clearly don't care all that much about having consistent lore and world-building, which is a shame as modern fantasy with magical weaponized pets has potential. The thing is their target audience of children don't give a fuck so they have no reason to bother.

I think Mewtwo was cloned in the same way as Dolly the Sheep: take a cell from whatever you're cloning, place it in a egg, and then place the artificially fertilized egg in a womb to carry the embryo to term. In Mewtwo's case add in plenty of unethical genetic experiments to horribly mutate the thing. They may have moved Mewtwo to a test tube before or after the egg was fully developed so they could better experiment on it. Then again, in the movie I think they just got Mew's DNA from an eyelash (fossil?) rather then finding a living specimen to artificially impregnate.

Honestly if I were going to go into Pokemon lore I'd do more of what USUM does and show Pokemon doing what they should be doing. Also that would be way more effort than a blurry sideways picture or a scan of some character sheet that actually lacks certain elements a character sheet needs. Like, you'd have to make a 3D model (or several), a background or area to set it in, entirely new battle UI if it's in battle (did we see any battle UI in the SM trailer?), all kinds of shit.
