Aces, I found the OP copypasta text file for these threads. I'd appreciate it if any anons had links to game ISOs and FLACs of the OSTs, preferable magnets so we can all seed them. All the now dead links were from another anon back in like 2017. In the meanwhile, check out the latest version of the game tier chart. Also, the waifu tier chart is still a WIP Razgrix best girl.
NEW TO ACE COMBAT?
Ace Combat is a series of arcade-y dogfighting sims where you pilot a multitude of fictional and real planes in various conflicts in the alternate world of Strangereal. This game isn't like other flight sims such as DCS world or EF2000, in that it doesn't strive for an absurd amount of realism in its flight model. Instead, Ace Combat is all about fun. Prepare for anime plotlines, giant superweapons, amazing music, and gameplay that never gets old. And many waifus.
Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown is the latest game in the series and is on PC, PS4, and Xbone - with PSVR being the only confirmed VR supported.
If you want to try out the series, grab the latest PCSX2 build from here: http://buildbot.orphis.net/pcsx2/index.php
Or grab a PS2 and play Ace Combat 04, 5, and Zero. Those are the best of the series and if you enjoy them you'll enjoy the rest. If you have an Xbox 360 then grab Ace Combat 6 (No idea whether it runs on Xenia). See the chart for any other games you may want to try.

Actually the blame isn't put on Belka per se, but on who uses their stuff. In AC5, the war is blamed on the Grey Men, who are Belkan separatists, unrelated to Belka itself. In AC7, the war really can't be blamed on anyone. Schroeger was a an engineer from North Osea Gründer Industries (originally Belkan South Munitions Factory), but his company is multinational. Erusea used the drones to start a war, rather than just keep its military strong. Harling was a dumbass for not telling Erusea from the start that he was going to give them the space elevator. Erusean factions were at fault for starting a civil war the moment the internet was cut off and innocents started dying. Osea was at fault for being predatory on Erusea while it was in turmoil, stealing a bunch of shit for themselves. The game made a point to make nobody look like a goody-two-shows. Belka really is just sitting out 1995.
By the way Gründer has an actual fucking website

>Very few countries actually respond
>Erusea, already harboring 200,000 refugees, finds 600,000 more bunching up on its borders, and casualty figures rise due to crime and illnesses rise (hence why there's a big wall in one of the missions at Erusea's border in AC7)
>Erusea asks NGOs to help get them somewhere else, but said NGOs don't do jack shit
>Erusea decides to tighten visa restrictions to prevent illegal immigrants and criminals from coming in
>Most other countries in Usea start boycotting Erusean exports, in a time of economical crisis no less
>Central Usea Treaty Organization sanctions the fuck out of their economy too
>Erusea loses its patience and takes over San Salvacion and Stonehenge, to get people to fuck off
>AC4 happens, paints Erusea as being the bad guy and Mobius gets his dick vacuumed all the way to the end as a hero despite having a personal army to back him up on every single mission
>Erusean soldiers are called fascists despite being from a Federal Republic and being in just as shitty conditions as the civies of the countries they were occupying, even the Yellows were operating out of an old highway tunnel with garbage-tier fuel, rookie pilots and virtually no logistical aid

While AC04 was good, there's nothing that beats the buildup and feeling of what happens in AC5. It's the perfect finish to any game. However, since AC5 was a very scripted and orchestrated game the feeling wears off slightly after subsequent playthroughs. You feel like a god the first time playing it, but the feeling has never replicated since.
This is why Zero has the best final mission in all the series, it never gets old having to joust at Mach 2 while listening to a banging soundtrack.
Honourable mention to Ace Combat Infinity where you replay a version of Operation Bunker Shot and the mission goes horribly wrong due to the enemy deploying their secret super weapon. But when all seems lost, you rally the troops and webm related starts playing.

You can rebind them any way you like. You could try out mine. It's a pretty heavy modification of the default control scheme. I'm new to the series, but it works very well for me. Remember the default flight controls in GTA San Andreas, almost fifteen years ago, and flying the Hydra? That's what I based mine on. Arrow keys control pitch and roll. Q and E are for the rudder. You never use the mouse, unless you're holding F, to look around.
You might need a good keyboard that doesn't lock up when you press too many buttons, because sometimes you will be holding 5 or more at a time, e.g. A+S + down arrow + right arrow to perform a high-G turn, while also holding left alt to keep the camera on your target.
Of course, you could always get a controller. But if you're a pig-headed fool like me who goes out of his way to stick to M+KB, this control scheme should work nicely.

Not in the PS1 games, in Electrosphere there are clear moralities there and you can choose who to side with, while the first two were just about regulating dissenters in your nation. Which probably is the right one since they don't fly red planes.

Like the OP says, nowhere near as good as the holy trinity, but it's up there with 6 I'd say. Gameplay's great for the most part but the story has a lot of lost potential. It doesn't really let you get attached to any characters. Everyone says the music is good, but I'm honestly sick of hearing the same theme in every single song. Gets old real fast.
Multiplayer is a mess. Only two game modes and they're versus. I was hoping for more options like Infinity, but right now it doesn't have much to offer. Also seems a little broken in terms of the records. I still haven't unlocked the Grabacr Belkan squadron emblem. Even though I've won countless BRs after unlocking the first one, it still lists me at 15, which is what's required for the first anyway.
Small gripes would be too many SUs, no FALKEN, no cool concept planes or unfinished prototypes like the 1.44, and a couple missions are 100% bullshit.
Gave us Bandog though, the best AWACS. To the anon who recommended strategies for multiplayer MIG-31 fun, thanks but I'm afraid it doesn't work. Not when basic missiles can be buffed to go above 4000 speed, have no reload time, be fired from insane distance, and have the homing capabilities of QAAMs. Poor thing never stood a chance and LAAMs are utter trash I guess multiplayer will forever be the no fun zone.

You're right, but they're not as obnoxious or at the very least they're more varied with the instruments used. An example is Northern Eye where it's not in your face and can be passed over relatively easily. Even then it's not as common as 7 with examples like Blockade or Invincible Fleet lacking it that I can tell. In most of 7, the entire song seems to come to a halt just so it can play the leitmotif before picking up again.
Or who knows. Maybe I just didn't like the music for this game all that much or I find the leitmotif underwhelming. I can't say there are many memorable songs in the game to me. I think of Mayhem from Zero and can remember nearly every note, but ask me how Daredevil goes and the only part that sticks out is the leitmotif. Most of the songs in 5 and Zero seem extremely easy to tell apart and you can usually determine what mission they're from, but 7's soundtrack just blends together for me. Be honest, are there any tracks in 7 with the leitmotif where the entire song is memorable to you?
>>16240524
Werewolf is easily the best. I think Tail Man and ADFX-10 are also good. Can't seem to find it in the former, but I think the latter has the leitmotif and is one of the few I like and can pick out from the soundtrack.

Thanks for the screencap. I'm trying to S-rank the Ace-tier missions right now in the hopes of getting something good but I'm disappointed in the aircraft choices. I'm mostly sticking to the Su-47 (BEST AIRCRAFTFU) because the X-02S is just a shit-tier endgame choice. It's somehow more situational than the ADF-01 of AC5, which really had nothing going for it other than lots of missiles and the TLS.

I see what you mean. AC7 had a bit too much electronic stuff mixed in. I was hoping for more orchestral melodies. I thought the leitmotif was good but the tracks needed to have more character of their own instead of being mostly "mood-dictating" tracks.
That said, there's some diamonds in the rough. 444, Long Day, Magic Spear 1, Last Hope, Two Pronged Strategy, Pipeline Destruction, Transfer Orders, ADFX-10, Stonehenge Defense, Sol Squadron (the basis for the second layer of the leitmotif) and Archange, were all good. And then there's my personal favorites…
>>16240524
Waiapolo Mountains and Lost Kingdom by far. These two tracks alone bring the "Ace Combat atmosphere" to the game in a way that none of the other tracks can. They hark back to ancient times, before Strangereal had planes.

As for multiplayer, its messy, and it could certainly be better, but once you get all the MP only upgrades it can be fun unless there is more than one QAAM spammer in the room. LAAM sniping with the Mig-31 and F-14 is also a very lucrative strat. You just need to fire at the slow moving targets who are stalling all over themselves in the endless high-G turn war retardation for an almost guaranteed kill.

Read the thread, nigger
I already have all the MP upgrades. If anything, it becomes even more of a shitshow the more upgrades everyone has. QAAMs are ridiculous, but standard missiles can be buffed to be almost as good, making the problem worse.
Combine that with SASM spam and how easy it is to kill with the EML and it's honestly a disaster. Perhaps I'm having trouble finding a balance in the game? What's the sweet spot? 2500 or higher just means stealth fighters and wyverns, 2250 means EML, QAAM, and SASM spam, 2000 and less means the missiles are buffed to infinity. Am I missing something? Even when I try to have dumb fun and just use the 21 with MGP, it's frustrating when up against all that.
You might be right with the LAAM. Maybe I was going for targets that were moving a bit much and that's what caused the misses. Or maybe I should just try SAAMs,but that seems difficult with so many players.
I could be fucktarded and just spam QAAMs, but that doesn't seem very fun. I honestly just enjoy using aircraft I like. Su-47, Mig-29 and 31, Rafale, even the YF-23 to name a few.
Or maybe I actually fucking suck and all those wins were lucky. Who knows Never ever I guess

I'm talking about the storyline context being significantly different in the Eng version compared to the Japanese Original, the wall dialogue may be part of the game however that doesn't mean bang zoom won't make some subtle drumpf wall 'jokes' in there.

That's my pick for second favorite track in AC7. I'm glad you pointed out Waiapolo Mountains as a similar track because I'd overlooked it. Lost Kingdom immediately jumped out at me with its spacey melancholy. It perfectly fit the tone of its mission. For me, it was very reminiscent of White Bird II from AC5 in the way it contrasts with the tone of other music.

Fair enough. I think I would've liked 444 a bit more if your squadmates weren't as obnoxious. Full Band was especially retarded. One of the most important parts of intel gathering was to be subtle about it especially since espionage is punishable by death in times of war.
Count is also impossible to actually like. Not sure why they chose him out of everyone to be your wingman.
I'm curious though. In the English version it's obvious Bandog had Full Band shot down because he was spouting classified information about Stonehenge on an open channel even after several warnings. Is that any different in the Japanese version?

All AC games have Strangereal lore in them, sans X2, Assault Horizon and Infinity. That said, AC1 has been retconned from taking place in the real world to being in Strangereal for continuity.
AC1's lore is basically about Scarface squadron (led by you, as Phoenix) suppressing a Coup D'etat in the Skully Islands - also known as the Skully Islands Insurrection - in Southwest Usea, in 1995. It started shortly after the Belkan War.
The real meat of the lore is, in order of importance, AC Zero, 5, 7, 4, 3 and X. AC1 and 2 are skippable in that regard. Overall I'd recommend playing all of them in order of release sans Assault Horizon. Infinity was online-only so you can't play that anymore (not like it matters).
ffbcbd No.16256318

>So I can skip AC1 without missing too much lore or story?
Yeah, story in 1 outside of external material is two cutscenes, one exposing the reason you're dong what you're doing at the start and one telling you how much you blew the fuck out of the enemy at the end
Gameplay wise it's a bit different from the rest but the Dpad control are not nice and the plane are fairly fragile so if you're not used to the genre the game will rough you up.
Really the only thing is that you're gonna have a hard time coming back to it later if you don't play it first because of QoL and tweaks to make the games more accessible over time.
2 is a better start if you're not accustomed to early PS1 game style in general as it pretty much already features most of what the main gameplay is gonna be throughout the series beyond some specifics of plane handling and AI behavior, and it has proper stick controls.
