I had a dream of a horror-action game that allowed me to explore a big city in between of solving a paranormal mystery, do side-missions and go to shops and shit like that. Since then I really wanted to play something like that. I know that Deadly Premonition is kind of like this, with you being allowed to fish, participate in races and side-missions in between solving the mystery of the game, but I would prefer something with a more urbanized theme. Any other games that do that?
GTA, Saint's Row and Red Dead Redemption the first one, I would never touch the shitheap that is the second are obvious enough that they don't need to be mentioned.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R also counts I guess but in a slightly different way, of having random comfy happenings and quiet safe locations in which you can spend some time in between plundering the zone.

I'm playing pic related right now and it's pretty similar, not really any shops to go to and not similar to the rockstarshit at all, but you can walk around towns and there are some missions that try to be spooky.

Alan Wake theoretically has calm daylight sections but they're mostly glorified cutscenes. Still it's pretty cool that you can explore those locations even if a bit.

Hold on a second, didn't a game release recently that fits your description?
I've been trying lately to find that game but couldn't remember how it was called.

All TXR games count for me, spend the night hurtling at insane speeds, only to call it a day then read about how you beat a band going through creative issues, or an American Football team, or a team of Spys. And everyone has their own back story too. The comfy in between stuff is what really makes them stand out.

Which one? Wesp's Patch makes a lot of bizarre changes to the game (and not just in its "Plus" version), including replacing game assets with lower quality versions of themselves and introducing new bugs(!), so get the True Patch instead if you can.

I got the game at launch and since I had shit internet getting the patches wasn't all that easy, plus I blazed through the game since I was in high school and actually had time to play games. Suffice to say that at one point in the game (the cave with the hunters and that captured vampire IIRC) you had to use console commands to jump to the next level because the game would crash when you tried to progress.

You only have Trip's pawnshop early on, but when you get to the other areas you will have shops to go to - mainly a place to sell loot (trash weapons you pick up all the fucking time), and clothes (armour)

Nobody played 1 and the turd is vomit-inducing, but even though 2 had fantastic design for its city I don't know if I'd call it comfy. You can't walk down the street for more than a minute before a shootout starts, and there isn't really much to do that doesn't involve blowing shit up or trying to find fun places to throw pedestrians off of.

For some reason I thought the part where you have to escort rebels to a train at the end of Episode 1 was really comfy. Autism got the better of me and I spent a really long time picking up every loose prop and organizing everything nicely in the many lockers that were around.

In the nu Persona games you attend highschool and hang out with your friends in the day and investigate the occult at night.
Some people find it anticlimactic to go from saving the world to studying for midterms in a few minutes, but I like the game's loop.

The game was originally planned to be exactly what OP wants, but a lot of it got cut down into a more typical linear action/thriller game.
I once had the thought of a mystery game where you explored an abandoned town that was haunted as fuck, but without any combat or anything, just pure atmosphere. Then I realized it would just be a walking simulator, even if you threw in a bunch of puzzles or something.

Good pick. Only thing with the daytime parts of the game is that they make you dread the night parts coming. I guess that was their purpose.
Wish the game had released as the open world game that was planned originally. I guess it just couldn't work from a narrative perspective.
