I'm working on a Sega Saturn list, cataloging games worth checking out on the system. Looking for feedback & additions on it, check the pastebin and post any changes, additions, omissions, whatever.

The list will separate games by Western Releases, JP Releases that are playable with limited knowledge of the language or have patches, and JP games which are difficult to play without knowledge. It will be further divided by genre and sorted alphabetically, which is obviously not done yet in the pastebin. It will also cover in brief modifications for the system for playing games, emulators and disclaimers regarding them.

There's just over 150 games so far, probably some duplicates. It's around what I estimated but there's always the feeling that I'm missing something. It's not a list that is about the definitive place to play these games, just giving you games to check out. Also looking for feedback on an aesthetic and style for the list. I've personally played most of them.

I think that playing SotN Saturn is worth it for hardcare SotN fans, but yeah it's not the best port of the game.

I've considered getting a cd-rom replacer for saturn, but I don't want to fuck with the native hardware. This basically means I sit on playing the couple of fightan games I have(mostly the last 3 that I listed), and a couple of japanese imports. The good news is that some guy is working on a flashcart and it went into beta 12/18.

Every emulator outside of SSF, the two Yabause forks, and Mednafen have been terrible. Even then, games only run properly on maybe emulator, but not the others. As for why it's shit? Well, the console never really was big here, which means most of the technical expertise is in Japan. I have a big gripe with the emulator scene, in that all these people could pool their expertise(except for SSF since its closed source), and get a really good emulator out in a decent timeframe. But I see it a lot, that people want to have the big dicks and be the first guy with a working X obscure console emulator that is 100% accurate.

I thought it was an exclusive to the Saturn due to the Euro release until a few years back when I saw it in the japanese ps1 fullset. The Saturn doesn't have too many exclusives that aren't STV ports or developed by Sega themselves.

Asuka 120% is a shoe-in, SotN is on the novelty, DBZ the Legend is flat out better on the Saturn with a lot more detail in battles. I shouldn't have missed Darkstalkers. Have yet to play Golden Axe The Duel but it being exclusive to the console does look like it provides a unique experience.

Pro-Tip: Avoid Albert Odyssey. Everyone is going to recommend it. But It's a gigantic pile of awful garbage. Just awful. Astal is another highly recommended one that is actually really mediocre but it's better than bloody albert odyssey at least.

Saturn emulation got good around 2005.

These days SSF is still the best option as it has less input lag than its competitor, it's more compatible and accurate, it requires far less CPU resources and has options for De-interlacing the graphics and enabling true transparencies instead of meshes.
