I like how you think, generally. On your first point, while I like BW's choice to do something different, unfortunately it's been done before. That having been said I wouldn't mind of the games took a similar approach and limited what Pokemon were in the region based on geographic reasons rather than just biome reasons. Gen 6 went overboard with it, and while Gen 7 tried to do something with Alolan variants I didn't think it turned out well. If they ever return to Japan or the mainland US I'd like to see mostly Pokemon from those regions, with explanations for why the others are there. Make it more of a living world in that way. I completely agree with the point on the ride system, the original Capsule Monsters featured mons that weren't really for battle and instead for other things. I'd personally integrate it into a sort of sidequest system, but I've posted about it before and I don't think anybody wants to hear me ramble about it right now. Your last three points are quality of life things, and really they should be focusing on that. I don't know why they go overboard with tutorials, it makes some people want to stop playing and the really retarded kids will just do whatever they want like plow through the games with their starter mostly fine.

What if there was more NPC variety? I don't mean NPC classes like Picnicker and Lass. I mean more varied eye colors and clothing schemes and hair styles for them. Like for example you fight two lasses. They both wear the same school colors because they go to the same school. One lass has tanned skin and dark blue short hair with green eyes. She's a tomboy who prefers sports so she wears a gym outfit. The other lass is a ginger with freckles, pale skin, copper hair, and green eyes with glasses. She prefers reading in the library. Both characters are the same trainer class with identical body type but the small touches make them unique. Helping them out with a side quest rewards the trainer with both gym clothes and a school uniform. After battling them first of course.

Adding to difficulty aside I'd like a Pro Battle mode that relies on visual feedback instead of text strings whether or not a move hits, misses, is or is not effective, crits, stat raise/lower, status effect, weather, and other things. Even make the HP bar flash the chunk you took out before quickly draining it. Also you should be able to see terrain conditions like weather, spikes, stealth rock, and electric terrain effects on the field at all times.

Game Freak are pretty incompetent. Under Satoshi Tajiri the games were consistently in development hell. Masuda tried to make the games more stable in Gen 3, but then Gen 4 came out and was apparently a mess under the hood. Given that since then the same fucking items exist in the code for generations, and other issues Gen 6 and 7 have had, it seems not much has changed. At least Gen 5 was stable enough and had a certain quality to it. I understand that making 3D games is hard, and it's arguable that the skills involved aren't really transferable, but Gen 6 felt really low quality in comparison. Doesn't help that despite making really high quality 3D models that apparently the 3DS has trouble handling, the animations weren't very good. I'm saying it's a miracle that they can release a game every fucking year, and the only game I'm sure was canceled between "Pokemon 2" and now was probably Z version, so just imagine how bad it was.

I'm playing a Touhou fan RPG right now that has an interesting system. Health and status are restored after each fight, provided you win, but if your party wipes it's basically a game over. If a character dies they come back at full health (but not MP) after the battle, but they only have a certain number of lives that are restored (along with MP) mostly at certain restore points, so you can't just cheese the game forever.

It allowed the dev to balance fights so that even early game random encounters can be threatening enough to knock characters out or wipe your party if you aren't playing smart. I'm pretty early into it but I've already had a few encounters where I grossly underestimated a new enemy and barely survived with my last girl. It's a much more interesting and satisfying pace of gameplay to me than difficulty coming purely from losses to attrition.

I don't think time is really the problem. They have several Pokemon games in development right now, probably, all with years of development. Gen 8 has been in development since they got their Switch dev kits probably, maybe they even got early versions of it so who knows how long it's been. The problem is Game Freak is fucking stupid. They could have years to develop a game, and it could be a crapshoot as to if it's any good or not. The best I can hope for is that Ohmori is learning something from actually developing a game and not from Masuda (who's gone completely insane), the rest of the team gets competent (through staff changes or fixing their shit), or somebody else directs. I've mentioned before that no third version or remake director has proven themselves because they have most of a game already done for them, but I've also mentioned that the best candidates are Morimoto because he's the battle guy and directed Emerald and HGSS, Takao Unno for overachieving with B2W2 which could transfer well to actually directing, and Kazumasa Iwao because the little touches in USUM are exactly my style and he seems to be Morimoto's protege in the same way Ohmori is Masuda's. That having been said I frankly don't actually know who else would be good. Hell, Snorlax could direct a game and it could end up good.

It's actually because Sun and Moon ditched the chibi models from Gen 6, so they decided to give them walk cycles in case they ever needed them. I believe it was useful for SM (of course) and USUM. It's honestly pretty smart. Now if only they made the battle animations look better, that's one of the few real problems the game has. The walking and Amie animations have a decent amount of personality. But shit like Blastoise not even really using his canons is shit HAL got right back in Stadium. The Festival more falls in line with the "spawning NPCs of people you interacted with" element. It also did give you items and such, just on a weird sort of system based on how games you played, people you met, etc. I never used it to its full capacity I think because you needed a nintendo account to link to and to have your 3DS synched with it or something. Features like that always just tends to get my FOMO going so I'm never a fan of them.

The first town takes up a lot of the map, or is that supposed to be some fucked up perspective? The first "route" looks wide but has a ton of water making it a straight line unless you want to visit the destroyed tower thing. The second town has a little side area and cave, which might lead to the town right above it with the weird pattern. The seaside town seems like a dead end. The other way from the first route seems like a smal wasteland, you'll probably be blocked by something dumb like the bridge being out or guys dancing for no reason. Crown town has two gyms on the left, several areas on the right, and likely the league up north. If I wanted to I could probably look into those areas more closely, but I dunno if anybody wants that.
